Reader Profile: First and foremost, I am a reader. From the moment I could hold a book, I've been fascinated by the written word. I enjoy almost everything but lean toward romantic suspense and magical realism. If you're looking for bad reviews, you won't find them here. The reason... life's too short to read bad books. If a book isn't at least three stars halfway through, I stop reading, and therefore, don't feel as though I have the right to review it. That's my policy! Please don't send me requests, though. If you are one of my cyber friends, I will eventually find you. :)

Author Profile: A writer of modern-day fairy tales, I write stories that overflow with romance, mystery, suspense, a hint of paranormal sometimes, and of course, tragedy. After all, what would a fairy tale be without a tragic event setting the stage? All of my novels are sensual but not erotic, gripping but not graphic, and will hopefully, make you cry, laugh, love, and hope.

Oh, the bittersweet feel of reading a great book when it's the final installment of a series. I loved the book, though I hate saying goodbye to the characters.

Carmen DeSousa captivates with action, depth, and emotion from start to finish. Her writing style is easy to get lost in. I find myself empathizing with the characters, even when I don't particularly want to. Carmen's gift to us is that we truly experience what it feels like to be someone completely different from ourselves.

While this series would be classified as 'supernatural' or 'fantasy', DeSousa lays the story out for us in a way that makes total sense. She gives us a credible scenario, both in writing and in research, and I find myself saying, "What if?"

This book - and the series - beautifully incorporates suspense, mystery, romance, hope, fear, betrayal, and so much more. Now, perhaps more than ever, we need to understand what it feels like to be "The Other". And though this story technically has nothing to do with our current political and social climate, it does shine a light on our very human tendency to negatively judge people who are unlike ourselves.

*This book could be read as a stand-alone, though, for the best reading experience, I suggest reading them in order.*

DIVINELY ENTERTAINING !!!
Title: Creatus Animus
Series: Creatus
Author: Carmen DeSousa
Designation: Book Four of Series, Could Be Read As A Standalone But NOT Recommended, NO Cliffhanger
Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited
My Rating: FIVE DIVINELY ENTERTAINING STARS*****
Loved, loved, loved it! I adore science fiction, completely smitten with mystery and suspense, totally infatuated with anything supernatural, fantasy or paranormal, and simply can't survive without a little romance, but give me the perfect combination of all seven elements and I'm in heaven! And that's exactly what Carmen DeSousa has delivered with Creatus! The Creatus Series was my first time reading the work of Carmen DeSousa but it certainly won't be my last. I began my adventure with DeSousa after downloading Creatus, the first book of the series, when it was offered as a free download on Amazon. I enjoy discovering new authors and what better way to discover new talent without breaking the bank than with a free read, right? I started reading on a Saturday morning and within five minutes, I knew I'd struck gold! I raced back to Amazon and discovered Books Two and Three, Creatus: Rogue and Creatus: Eidolon, had already been released. And the icing on the cake, they were both available under the Kindle Unlimited program. SWEET! By Sunday evening, I had devoured all three books of the series as well as the prequel novella, They Exist, which was included as a bonus with the first book. At the end of Creatus Eidolon, I discovered a short excerpt from the next book of the series, Creatus Animus releasing October 2016. I was so happy to learn the adventure would be continued, I almost wept with joy. No joke! And, folks, here's the real kicker, I loved this series so much, after receiving the first book free, then reading Books Two and Three under Kindle Unlimited, I actually went back to Amazon and purchased the box set containing the prequel and first three books for my permanent library. If that isn't a true recommendation, I don't know what is! Ready for a sweet surprise??? Desousa automatically updated the Box Set with Book Five: Creatus Animus, the final book of the series, as soon as Animus was released...which is now! So, if you bought the box set before the release date of Creatus Animus, all you have to do is contact Amazon customer service and they will replace your copy with the file that includes ALL FIVE BOOKS! Jackpot! So why am I telling you all this? Because you shouldn't really read Creatus Animus until you've read the other books of the series. Each release is a full-length novel but the series is actually more like a serial since the books should be read in sequence. The author does include a fair amount of backstory in each book and probably could be read as standalone, however, I highly recommend reading the books in order. Although each book primarily features a specific couple, there is an underlying interconnected story arc running through the entire series with a large recurring cast of characters. I found all of the books to be exciting, thrilling, imaginative, original, suspenseful, romantic, seductive, exceptionally well crafted and edited. The narratives are all beautifully written in the third person with multiple points of view. My favorite! The dialogue is smart, well executed and flows effortlessly. But my favorite component of this remarkable saga is the magnificent cast of characters. They are unique, intriguing, well developed, engaging, relatable and sexy as sin. I not only fell head over heels for the protagonists of each book but I also loved the masterfully depicted antagonists. Nothing is as it seems! Be very careful which antihero you choose to hate; he may very well turn out to be a hero in disguise! And vice versa, of course! Oh my! DeSousa demonstrates her talent as a gifted storyteller by skillfully combining every single one of these elements to craft a masterful supernatural saga filled to the brim with fantasy, danger, drama, action, betrayal, heartache, undeniable love, and enough spine-tingling suspense, shocking plot twists and perplexing mystery to blow your mind! And just when you think you have it all figured out -WHAM - DeSousa hits you with another surprising and totally unexpected piece of the puzzle. Folks, this definitely ISN'T your ordinary romance. This is an extraordinary, suspense filled whodunnit with a delicious side of tantalizing romance - without the calories! OMG! Who knew you could have a sexy romance without the sex? Obviously, Carmen DeSousa did since she just pulled it off magnificently! Once I started reading, I could not stop! I was immediately drawn into the story, glued to my seat, completely lost in time with the hours passing seemingly as minutes while my heart pounded in my chest. It was bloody brilliant! So sit back, my lovelies, get comfy and prepare to meet the Creatus, an alien species who have been living in plain sight among the humans of Earth for the past four thousand years. And you know all those supernatural beings based on myth, well, they just might be real and they may be creatus. Oh my!

This is NOT your typical supernatural/paranormal romance and is unlike anything I've ever read. This is not a book report nor do I give spoilers in my comments. What I attempt to do is give my humble opinion on the merits of the book itself. When rating and reviewing a book, I always ask myself several questions. First, what did I love about this story? As I stated earlier, all the books were beautifully written, well crafted and well edited with gorgeous covers. The world created by DeSousa for this series was imaginative as well as intelligent. It may have been fantasy but it was totally believable in the realms of science fiction and the supernatural. Oh, did I forget to mention the science fiction part? Well shucks, it's like Donnie and Marie Osmond with their little bit country and little bit rock 'n roll. This series is a little bit paranormal, little bit supernatural, little bit fantasy and a little bit science fiction. It's a divinely delicious all you eat buffet! And the characters were unlike anything I've ever experienced in a previous book. They were unique but fascinating, believable, and completely relatable. I cried for them, empathized with them and even laughed at some of their antics. The narratives of each book were fast-paced but comfortable. At no point in any of the books was I ever bored or distracted. The pages as well as the time literally flew. I was so engrossed in the story, I even refused to answer my phone. My second question is always, what didn't I like about this story? Truthfully, not a darn thing! Well, other than the fact I didn't want it to end but isn't that true with all great stories? I think so. Third, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am for a wide range of readers including young and mature adult readers. There are a few curse words which I could probably count on one hand for all three books. There is some violence but it's NOT graphically portrayed and has NO gory details. The book is romantic but not erotic. There are NO explicit sex scenes but there are dreamy love scenes. And this is one thing that really surprises me since I generally go for books with more erotic romance and often find myself bored out of my mind without at least a few steamy sex scenes but not so with this series. It never actually occurred to me until I began writing this re view. Fourth, will I read this author again? Abso-freakin-lutely! At the end of Book Three, the author offered a sneak peek at the fourth book of the series, Creatus: Animus which has since been released and is included in the new box set or available as a separate purchase. I could not wait to get Animus in my hot little hands and DeSousa didn't disappoint! She upped the anti and really kicked up the heat in Animus! It has more romance, more drama, more angst, more action, more suspense, and just more everything! Plus we get to hear from the characters introduced in the previous books! No spoilers from me but I will say that all will be revealed! DeSousa does an extraordinary job of tying all the plot threads together into a neat, tidy bow! We get answers for all those burning questions that kept popping up throughout the series! I'm a DeSousa fan for life! Please believe me when I say, I rushed to DeSousa's web page to sign up for her newsletter so I'll know every time she has a new release. And finally, was I entertained? Oh lawd, yes! I was completely captivated and totally entertained! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Sad to see it end

I love the series. Different take on the supernatural. As for this book, I really would have loved to see more from Michael and Aideen..then falling did happen so fast but as we know Michael was always looking for love, so I understand why it happened the way it did. I also feel the ending was rushed. Really hope to see and hear how\what everyone is doing in the spin off, even O'Brian. I would still recommend this book either way and look forward to the next adventure.

Still loving this series. I enjoyed the previous books a little more than this one, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. We finally find out who was behind the uprising of the rogue creatus, why Janelle was killed and everything could end here... except for these newly created "vampires". Michael and Aideen's romance is quick and takes a backseat compared to Derrick and Kristina, Reece and Vic, and Jonas and Megan's. But there was a lot of story to wrap up. I still have questions I'd like answered to but not enough to ruin the story for me.

OMG I’m done 🤨This last one was painful to get through, I just wanted it over. If you’re going to create a different world, create it. The writing is lousy, the info repetition annoying, the characters not all that likeable. I highly recommend passing on this series. Try Elizabeth Hunters Elemental Mysteries series, which is excellent, and for those of you who are not prudish about your books try Larissa Iones’ Demonica series. These women know how to create a world.

What a Thrill Ride!

I became so addicted to this last novel. In fact, I gave up reading my dragon novels for this series. Even when my favorite shows premiered, I was forced to record and watch them later. The characterizations and storylines became even more believable. I was so delighted that many of my favorite characters found their forever mates. However, I am horrified at what faces the main characters in future novels.

Of the books, this was probably the most interesting. It had the same cheesy "falling" with the exact characters you expect but this book actually had a plot. The only things that disappointed me is the ending which is obviously meant to "hook" you into reading her new series without giving you any real answers about the characters.

Something Is Frightening

Now we'll find out what scary things are being grown in the name of purity of their race. They seem to have picked up their supposedly enemies practices. This is the fourth of a five part series.

Disclaimer: I read this book in the bundle (1-5)

We finally get closure and learn what the rogues want and who are behind it all. This one has the most action of them all. I love how the story led to this ending.
It's really hard to review without giving any spoilers but if you have read the other books you already know a lot so I can say that Mike finally falls...About time!
This one was by far my favorite of the series and while the series was quite long it was well worth getting there.

I would certainly recommend for fans of both aliens and vampire folklore.

Overall, I enjoyed the Creatus series of books. This last book was the most quickly paced one due to the amount of action involved to bring the main overarching story - the rogue - to a conclusion. The author's foundation of this otherworldly civilization that had submerged themselves into humanity was a fascinating approach. I liked that DeSousa's analogy of good/bad in every group is a Creatus issue, not just a human one. And she did not shy away from calling out the shortcomings of humans at various times.

I actually thought DeSousa's pacing through the series was effective. She invested the time needed to establish the Ashton family and associated characters, moving around to spotlight certain ones as she progressed through each book. The banter between O'Brian/Michael was pretty good and I would have enjoyed reading more of that, but what DeSousa included provided comic relief, especially since the sinister experimentation aspect needed a counter-balance. I also think it was advantageous to convey the developing friendship between Vic/Kristina - providing a fictional example that exes can move on and former girlfriend/ex-lover and the wife can become friends.

All of the couplings had chemistry, particularly Derrick/Kristina, but I believe that is because DeSousa spent quite a bit of time developing that central relationship. The flirtation between Vic/Reece was fun and I bet their one-off story is more of the same. That said, I thought the Michael/Aideen relationship was rushed and I think that comes down to DeSousa's need to wrap up the series. It's unfortunately it ended up that way because Michael was a more fully developed character. A small casualty.

All in all, a fun and lighter read.

GREAT STORY-READ IN ORDER WRITTEN

I have not enjoyed a series more in quite awhile. Author, Carmen DeSousa has done a masterful job of combining romance and paranormal with enough action, adventure, mystery and suspense for everyone! I am really thrilled that her books are romance and NOT erotica. Thank you for that Ms. DeSousa.

I have now read the series and it was worth every penny spent. The editing is good and DeSousa's writing is easy to read and keeps you on your toes. I would have liked a little more on the Creatus lives and how they live and more of the science fiction brought out in the final book. Maybe, someday, Ms. DeSousa will write more about the science fiction angle and everything that happened. I think it would be a great off-shoot of the Creatus series.

If you like romance, action, adventure, mystery, suspense you will enjoy this entire series. You must read them in order to understand what happens as the story continues. I recommend you start with book 1 "Creatus" today. Don't miss out on this series. You won't be able to put it down.

Creatus Animus Review
Carmen Desousa did it once again! She hit out of the park on the finale to the Creatus Series. Me not being a huge paranormal lover, sure devoured this one! All loose ends were tied up, and any questions I had throughout the series were answered. Ms. Desousa really put herself out there with this book, and delivered another 5* read for me. I hope she will continue her writing career, as I am a HUGE fan!

Oh my Creatus!!!
Ok so when is the next one coming out...lol?

I know the series is done, but I want to read the Novellas that are connected to this series!! Like Vic and Reece's honeymoon, or about "The Children", also O'Brian, or Branson. I just need more, the books went to fast and I enjoyed them a lot.

Thank you for writing these books, I loved how they where different from the same typical supernatural/paranormal books.
Awesome job. Two thumbs way way up!!!

This book brought it all together but wished there was a little more. Whahaha ;-)

So much love and support in difficult times, each and every character completed each other perfectly. feisty ladies, hunky broody men. The fight of humankind and all alike.

Ok, fast moving story

I would have enjoyed this book much better if I had read the others closer to when I read this. I kinda d of remembered some of the people but it had been too long and since I read a lot of books like this, they can tend to be similar enough I forget who was what and who. So this book for me wasn't as good as I didn't remember everyone but it went fast s t and was interesting. My advice read it soon after reading the others.

I was beginning to think this was a pretty obvious story, until this book. There's so many things that the author threw out that had me go "wow!" Was interesting ending, though kinda left you hanging a little bit not knowing exactly what was going to happen. But overall it was a great ending to the series

Good. Reads

I bought and read the whole series. If you buy these books , buy the set first. I paid for each one separately. Demons and angels in Evey book. Left a big opening for another book. Maybe two. Buy the series collection. You will love it or not but it I'd a good story all in all .
