War rages over control of the Prophecy. For one young halfling, Maya Yuri, the calamity in the world of Chanin is even more troubling. Adopted at a young age, acceptance was never possible; her birthright, however, always remained inevitable.
In order to prevent the war from reaching its climax, Maya undertakes a treacherous journey. Aided by a man with a deceptive past, an exiled ninja and old friends with secrets of their own, Maya will face harsh truths and unimaginable dangers.
Forced to make life-altering choices, will Maya succeed or has her fate already been sealed? Can she derail oncoming disaster?
If you enjoy fantasy novels and want to check out a new Seattle author, add this book to your list. It'll be free on Amazon from August 21-26! The Prophecy is about a "halfling" (half elf, half unknown) destined to conquer and destroy all lands and people. Elves and shadow beasts have been feuding for centuries and are both in a frenzy to get the halfling on their side. Cue in Maya, an outsider among humans. After leaving her adoptive human family behind to pursue answers Maya discovers she is definitely not human and is in a lot more danger than she realized. She has good and evil blood coursing through her veins--which side will win? What I Liked: Fantasy fans get some of everything. This book includes elves, shadow beasts, goblins, dragons and ninjas. I loved the balance between all these characters. They all got equal page time. I feel like there's not a lot of ninja characters in novels lately so having a badass female ninja character is a great change. Not a huge romance fan in general but Prophecy had just enough to satisfy readers and not take away from the plot. The cliffhanger was not contrived or over the top which I REALLY appreciated because I have thrown my Kindle enough times over that bs. What I Didn't Like: There were a few characters I liked that were dropped or not explored. Given the novel length it wasn't a huge shock. Book was a little too long for me. I have to be huge fan of a series before I get comfortable with longer books. I usually cap off at 500 pages but Prophecy isn't dense which helps.
I really liked the book and the various characters throughout the story. I enjoyed the subtle humor, the developing narrative, and how the characters continued to grow and expand throughout. My favorite part would be the pieces of foreshadowing throughout! Great read and I highly suggest anyone to try it out. Truly a good piece!
