Should be required reading for anyone entering one of the US Military Academies. Heroes are not created by Authors but are forged out of the fires of hell and beyond.
The book is an excellent collection of stories that S.E. Smith edited. There are some fabulous first-person accounts of naval combat from sources present at the events and published not long after World War II.
I read this book cover to cover during the summer between 4th & 5th grade. I've reread it since then and it holds up. It is a great collection of eye witness and accounts. No student/historian of the Second World War should be without this book.
