"A wonderful fusion of the text-heavy visual novel genre withPhoenix Wright-like murder investigations and trials."-IGN Having lived through the first round of judgment in the trap that is Hope's Peak Academy, bonds are beginning to form among the surviving students. But the evil paws of Monokuma, the villainous bear that holds them captive, are stretched around them . . . one light, one dark, signifying that at this school there's only room for two kinds of students: those found innocent-and those found guilty! * Based on the anime TV show, released in 2015 through Funimation. * Inspired by the video game series from NIS America and now on Steam.
Volume 2 of Danganronpa: The Animation did not disappoint or slack off in the slightest! If anything, it did the exact opposite. Where Volume 1 excelled in introducing us to this quirky and fatal school, the sadistic 'headmaster,' and all the Ultimate Students, Volume 2 completely throws curveball after curveball with killer twists! I gasped multiple times and screamed, "WHAAAAAT?!" Such a good second installment in this series and I cannot wait for Volumes 3 and 4 to arrive on my doorstep because I need to read them ASAP. I am absolutely loving this!
Okay, can we just take a moment to appreciate how Mondo’s hair defies all law of gravity? Either he has got industrial strength hair gel/hair spray holding that mop up or it’s just so insane that it does not abide by Earth’s physics. Anyway, so far I am enjoying the concept of this book and really look forward to watching the animated series and playing the video game when I find how to access those.
Spoilers Ahead:
The first student to die is Chihiro Fujisaki- framed up in the fashion of Genocide Jack’s killings. Mondo Owada is later found to be the murderer and set for execution by the cage of death and ground up into butter (aptly named Modo Butter). His murder was out of passion for the strength it took for Chihiro to want to be seen as a man again, after only feeling safe cross dressing and letting the world see him as a woman. Hifumi Yamada and Kiyotaka Ishimaru are then found bludgeoned by hammers by a bot with Yasuhiro Hagakure stuffed inside. The last murderer yet to be determined. 4/5☆

I don't usually read v.2's in series right after I've read the first volume, but my anxiety was much too high while at work last night, so I opted to read something I knew I could read: Pictures are good for anxiety, and I already knew the story having played the game, so my attention could be a bit scattered.
As with v.1, the second manga continues following the plot of the video game. And as with v.1, events are rushed, rushed, rushed.
In general this one feels like a better experience, partly because there's none of that set-up stuff, and partly because they started to flex the muscles of the format a bit. Monokuma, in particular, goes meta during his asides to the reader. (One of the greatest parts of the whole volume was his railing about being promised CMYK, yet being in b&w.) This almost got me to bump the rating up to 4 stars, but it's more of a 3.5, and I rounded down because I just can't quite see Danganronpa among my other 4-star rated books.
after having watched the anime, played the game, and watched multiple gameplays, the sequencing in this always feels so jarring, but still entertaining. i actually love revisiting danganronpa through the manga, even if it feels weird at times. anyway, this next trials is truly one of the most tedious ones (besides the one that comes right after, wont give spoilers), so not too excited abt that 😵💫😵💫
So many thoughts... first of all I will never get over Byakuya messing with a dead body and risking his own execution all to humiliate a girl with a crush on him, like his disturbing mental state needs to be studied.. also the 2nd class trial in THH is my least favorite because it bores me so I'm only giving this one 3 stars.... ok maybe 3.5 because we finally got my queen Genocide Jill/Jack

This is totally psycho! Murder and mayhem. So much stuff happens in this volume my mind is reeling. The characters in this series are downright pathological with some really weird stuff being revealed in this volume. The book ends with another trial about to begin.
no but like, they... REALLY rushed through this, huh? absolutely no room to breathe in here. I really am sad for anyone who just picks up the manga without touching the game bc yikes.
So, my review of the first book in this manga series works pretty well for this second entry in the series, too.
The killings and trials continue. More students are eliminated. I'll be reading the next volume, too.
*violence, sexual references
My review for the fisrt volume:
Well, this is just nuts.
15 students are selected as the best in their areas of expertise (fashion, music, sports, martial arts, etc.) and are chosen to attend a prestigious academy.
Except, you know, this is insane manga, so instead of a fancy school, they've apparently been kidnapped by a blood-thirsty, talking teddy bear who lets them know that the only way out of the school is to kill another student without being identified as the killer by the remaining students.
And thus the killing and trials begin.
It's gonzo and the dialogue is stilted, and yet I couldn't put this first volume down. Is there a way out of the crazy bear's clutches without murder?
Who knows? Now I have to keep reading, right?
Apparently, this is based on a video game, but I know nothing about that.
Four students are dead. Three deaths have been accounted for. What happened to the fourth? Begin the investigation!
The students are growing more and more paranoid with each day and Monokuma isn't helping. He's using every trick in the book to motivate our students into murder. My favorite part of this series is the investigation part. Piecing together the mystery along with the characters when small 'hints' from Monokuma. It's kinda fun.
I'm again blown away by how the manga artists manage to perfectly hand draw the Danganronpa art style. I do love having a graphic novel version of the animation of the game (try saying that after a few pints), and this really is just a perfect piece of memorabilia to own.
I'm eternally grateful that I was introduced to this franchise, and I will certainly be looking to collect the rest of the manga.
This one was a bit better than the first one. I love the mystery in this manga since you never know who did it ti'll the execution. Naegi and Kirigiri are work very well togheter when it comes to finding who killed who, but will they break each others trust? Can't wait to find out in the next volume ;) .

still amazing and loving every second of the danganronpa manga. my only complaint is this volume seemed to be a little too fast paced at times. i think the class trial suffered most during this adaptation to manga, as it seemed rushed and the twists and details of the case weren’t as exciting to piece together. but all together another great addition!!
It covers the entire Chapter 2 as well as Chapter 3’s Daily Life. A nice read—there are no critical logical errors, though the proportions are still a bit off at times. Every scene featuring Kirigiri is done beautifully. Also: it’s been ages since I watched the DR1 anime or played the games; I’ve almost forgotten how cute Alter Ego is.
