I started reading Fairy Tail some time way back in 2012. But I stopped. Because at the time, I was reading One Piece, and still, One Piece is my ultimate Shounen manga favourite. But I really hate waiting for volumes to come out and I really hate waiting for updates. Lately, I haven't been reading much manga, nothing seemed to catch my eye. Until I started reading A Court of Mist and Fury which really lacks in hardcore action (as one might expect from YA, and I suppose I'm just in a very actiony mood atm). And on a whim, I picked Fairy Tail up again. I had really liked it to begin with, but on reading now, on reading from chapters 100 to volume 55 I realise, I have missed it. I have missed the rough, tumble, reckless and glorious punch ons that stupid (but utterly loveable and totally devoted) male protagonists (and the female protagonists) get into in shounen manga. THIS, Fairy Tail, was what I really needed to tide me over while I read ACOMAF (romance orientated). I guess I also needed a reminder of the values that many Japanese manga strongly promote in their stories - FRIENDSHIP, FRIENDS, FAMILY. They are so important. And I love it. I love that fighting for their friends, fighting for the meaning of 'family' is the core to mangas like Fairy Tail, One Piece, Naruto...
BUT yes, anyway, omfg, the latest volumes has me dying for more. It's starting to get really intense, and I'm wondering if we're nearly to the end?
I really love the Fairy Tail gang it seems. I like the plot more in One Piece, but Fairy Tail has strength in its themes.
All the characters are wonderful, I love them.
And yep, that's all I have to say!
(I will say, there's still too many stereotypical female bodies in Fairy Tail, and the classic -.- panty shots, naked scenes, but unlike some shounen manga, it comes across as very modest/tame in Fairy Tail - actually I should say it's somewhat respectable, and not as perverted as others.)
I really love you, Aquarius .🧜♀️ She always complains to Lucy but she protects Lucy every time. Consequently, I thought “Perhaps, Aquarius is coming!?” when a vase was fell down. I feel a common shounen manga has a firm friendship between boys and boys (sometimes girls). However, there are many friendships between girls in Fairy Tail so this is one of my favorite points.
This is the last book I have in my manga pile from the library 😭😭. And it’s curbside pick up only for another month. It will be a pain to get the last 8 😭😭.
ENG My opinion (without spoilers) concerning volumes 46 to 55. I must admit that I really liked what happens in these volumes. Certain passages/moments surprised me, and it feels good ! We have a certain maturity that has set in, the characters have grown, it's felt and it feels good. And all this, without losing their personality, it should be noted. I'm on the home stretch, I don't have many books left. I'm excited and stressed at the same time !
This book is hard to rate because it really relies on the culmination of the story which has brought you to this point. So, the rating does not simply get placed by what happens in this book but the journey in which has been undertaken to lead you to the revelations of this volume! While not all of them are brand new to you as a reader...seeing Natsu learn of his origins hits you directly in the feelings! In this volume we get Lucy and Brandish's mothers' back story...and as often is the case, the truth isn't what everyone thought! Even with the intense fighting, fan-service finds its way into this volume. The battle in the north is fierce and it is hard to say who will win this war, but the odds still heavily favor Zeref. Hiro Mashima (artist and writer) at his best!
I teared up twice, first when Happy carried Natsu away (how could you not, with him crying and not letting Natsu die?) and then when Aquarius came back. The whole backstory with Zeref and the dragon slayers and Lucy's ancestors is a bit out there, but whatever, I'll buy it, I guess. It also felt like a cheat that we didn't actually get to see the Wizard Saint battle just the aftermath and almost too quick resolution.
The book ended with fist pumping though, with Laxus showing his thinking skills (rather than just his fighting ones) and curing his damn self. Good for him.

4.5/5 Ok firstly bonus points for Mermaid Lucy & Brandish ::drool::.
The first few chapters of volume 55 give us a history lesson on Lucy and Brandish’s mother with some flashback scenes. I really enjoyed how it ties Lucy’s family into the main story. Aquarius makes an appearance as well which is sweet.
We then have a brief battle with the 4 top wizard saints against the top wizard. Acnologia drops by for this one.
We end with a fun battle between Laxus and Wall which was pretty good as well.
Laxus, Wall, Natsu, Lucy, Happy, and Mermaid Brandish on the cover of volume 55.
Wow, a volume full twists and turns. I absolutely loved it. So much revealed about the history of our main characters and some questions that have been bothering me since about twenty to thirty volumes ago. And the battle scenes are just amazing. Each installment of the Alverez Empire Arc has me unable to put down the book.
And I don't normally bother with reviews, but this volume just deserved it. It deserved to be praised.
Zeref and Natsu come face to face and this might be the moment that Zeref finally gets his death wish. At the same time, our heroes are doing everything they can to protect their country and the battles are getting harder and harder. I really enjoyed the hell out of this volume and can’t wait to see what the next one has in store. There we so many revelations in people’s powers that you never saw coming. I need answers!
This fictional book was very action-filled as usual and left me wanting to read more. The relationship established between all the characters was something the author made very well. I absolutely loved the plot twist between two of the characters; it gave the chapter even more flare. I look forward to reading more books from this exciting series.

I am not a big fan of the West and the 12 spriggan. They are powerful but it is hard to understand their motive. I guess they are just too loyal or just pure evil.
I think this was one of the most interesting volumes to date, although I didn't understand how Laxus defeated Wall Eehto. The part at the beginning where Zeref spilled all his secrets to Natsu was amazing! Yet again we are shocked with another plot twist.
