Happily Ever All-Star

Rate this book
Can you fake a happily-ever-after?

Veteran running back Jude Owens is one of the best and most respected players in the league. A brutal concussion nearly ended his career, but Jude refuses to retire without earning the ultimate honor—a championship.

But first, he needs me to clear him to play. As the Ironfield Rivets’ neurologist, I usually treat bad boy quarterbacks and beastly linebackers. I can’t be impartial when my lifelong crush hops onto the exam table. Not only is Jude gorgeous and a gentleman, he’s my brother’s best friend…and the father of my unborn baby.

Or so everyone thinks.

Jude offers to pose as my boyfriend and the baby’s father to save my reputation. In return, he needs my help to stay on the field. The pretend romance keeps me close enough to take care of him, but I can’t protect my heart. Our stolen kisses and nightly indiscretions make this fake relationship feel so very real.

I can’t complicate our arrangement by falling in love, especially as Jude’s obsession with football blinds him to everything but the game. When his symptoms worsen, the only way I can protect him may be to sit him on the sidelines. But ending his career will ruin our Once Upon A Time.

It’s up to me to save my prince charming.
Even if it means I lose my happily-ever-after.

This book was surprisingly good. And the fact that I was surprised by it leads me to my next point. I think some combination of the title or cover art or blurb is selling this book short. It comes off as a vapid, quickie read but it actually takes a really interesting look at concussions in football players, and if you know anything about the subject you know how serious it is.

I was so surprised at what a focal point Jude’s concussions played in this book. It was really well done. There were times when I was sick with worry for him and every time he forgets something it just compounded the worry. He had such a disregard for his own health, it was shocking, his only goal was playing more football, winning a championship. Rory is the team’s neurologist and tries to keep a close eye on him but she’s blinded by her love for him and her own personal problems. Jude’s problem gets worse and worse but Rory has her own stuff going on and Jude’s helping her out, the least she can do is help him make it to a championship.

This was definitely an interesting story, I loved the serious look at concussions in football players. Check this out if you’re looking for a football read a little out of the norm.

“Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price that each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” ~Vince Lombardi

Football is my favorite sport to watch on TV. I love the fast pace and fierce completion. I love the game. I LOVE FOOTBALL! Hot guys in tight pants with massive muscles scrambling over the ball all day long? Sign me up! Football gets my heart racing and my blood pumping with adrenaline. You’ll find me in front of the TV or occasionally at the game during NFL season where I am so engaged that I should be a sideline commentator. I live and breathe this sport like it’s my religion.

While I have been stalking Sosie Frost’s hot covers and drooling over the accompanying book synopses for her football series for many weeks, I had not met one book by this author until now. Until Happily Ever All-Star hit my kindle and I was lost to this football romance. Before I dove in, I could not help but shoot a few eyegasms at the cover because I’m a football fangirl and football players are hot.

Because 7 points = a touchdown (counting that extra point of course)….

REASON #1 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: FOOTBALL.

“I don’t bother romance. Football is my only desire.”

There is something so special and sweet about a friends-to-lovers romance. The history, friendship, and realization that there is more make me swoon so much. Throw football into the mix and it makes for one touchdown of a story! A fun and flirty friends-to-lovers meets football romance, Happily Ever All-Star is a touchdown of a tale that’s full of heat and heart.

REASON #2 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: FRIENDS-TO-LOVERS ROMANCE.

“God, she was absolutely stunning…But it didn’t matter. One thing hadn’t changed. She was my best friend’s little sister.”

Dark and beautiful, Aurora ‘Rory’ is the neurologist for the Ironfield Rivets. Rory’s newest patient is the blue-eyed, golden-haired, tall, and very fit football player, Jude Owens. Jude also happens to be her step-brother’s best friend. The best friend who has been her secret crush for a lifetime.

REASON #3 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: SURPRISE PREGNANCY.

The heroine in this book doesn’t get pregnant at the end. She is already with child. I loved the unexpected surprise!

REASON #4 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: PRETEND BOYFRIEND

Rory Jude is the father of Rory’s unborn baby. Or at least that’s what the world thinks. The real-life knight in shining armor, Jude, rescues the reputation of his princess by pretending to be her baby daddy to the public. In turn, Rory will protect his football career.

“Our love has to make Romeo and Juliet look like idiot teenagers.” >/i>

REASON #5 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: HOT & HUMOROUS

Happily Ever All-Star brought its A game in heat and humor. I laughed and lusted at the lines that made me blush and blurt out with giggles like these.

“Until this point, the pregnancy cravings hadn’t extended beyond orange juice and chocolate. Now I wanted something different."

"A meat popsicle."
"A lick of his loins."
"A peck of his pecker."
"Maybe a cheeseburger too.”

REASON #6 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: CHEMISTRY COLLISION

The chemistry is combustible. A collision of current that can’t be broken. One that is a higher power than friendship, more akin to fate. Rory and Jude can’t ignore the feelings that flow when they are near each other making the fake relationship feel real. Though to make it real, they have to at least test the waters with a kiss and oh what a kiss it was.

“We touched. We kissed. We groaned within comfort of each other’s lips as desire tangled us tighter than our embrace. This wasn’t passion—it was freedom. Permission. A moment of weakness that hid us from our own thoughts and fears and regrets.”

I spun in a sea of swoon as I rooted for love to win the game. I wanted love to burst through the friendship defensive line and make a touchdown.

REASON #7 WHY YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK: PLOT OF PERFECTION

You have to love a twist on the friends-to-lovers romance where the heroine is pregnant at the beginning instead of the end. A story where the hero is really a huge hero—one that will do anything for his friend who is quickly becoming more. A story where lines are blurred to where they cross many times.

“I couldn’t have a fake relationship with Jude. Not when everything already felt so real.”

For Jude, Rory is not a distraction but a reason to fight for the game. Fight for him as injuries keep mounting up and may pave the way to the end. Fight for the possibility of more. Though before the players have even warmed up, trust may be the penalty that stops the game for good.

Lines and blurred. Friends hover into lovers’ territory. The football game and season are on the line while two hearts are as well.

“I knew how to win a football game, but scoring with Rory? It wasn’t just a bad idea; it was the wrong game to play.”

Sweet, sexy, and spellbinding, Happily Ever All-Star packs heat and heart into a touchdown of a tender tale. This story is the perfect second-chance romance for the sports junkie. I was in the stands cheering for the Ironside Rivets, I was in the locker room listening to the team pep talks, and I was on the field chasing the ball with the players as feels were flying. I was in this game for the win.

Happily Ever All-Star is a fierce and flirty football romance that oozes spice and sweetness, an all-star story indeed. I could not help but cheer for love to win the game. This raw and rousing romance is fresh, flirty, and fabulous and I was glued to this sensational sports story like my favorite team playing football. I loved this refreshing read and now I need to date the rest of Sosie Frost’s books.

Got about 15% of the way through this football interracial romance and could not keep reading, for the following reasons:

• The heroine, who is supposed to be a neurology intern working with a pro football team to study concussions, does not pick up on any of the OBVIOUS signs that her childhood friend/love interest is suffering from post concussion syndrome. Too stupid to be convincing in her professional role for me to suspend my disbelief.

• The comedy here is of the pratfall/broad tv comedy variety: a family dinner that turns into a brawl/food fight, complete with mouthly grandma who flirts with the young guys; overly enthusiastic cunnilingus results in a broken nose for the hero, etc. This type of humor does not appeal to me at all, although I know other readers may like it more than I do/did.

• No real compelling conflict keeping these two apart

• Two sex scenes in the portion that I read, both of which featured unappealing "oh, we shouldn't, oh we shouldn't" murmuring by the heroine before of course giving in to sexual acts. Really dislike heroines who resist sex then give in; makes them appear wishy washy and unable to embrace their own enjoyment of sex without waffling on

• A heroine who refers to her second-semester pregnancy increase in sex drive as "whoremones." Funny to some, but unappealingly unfeminist to me.

When I read the last book I just knew the next one would be Jude's story and it did not disappoint. Jude is a player that has had one too many concussions. He just recovered from an injury that could have been career ending but her fought to get better so he can eventually get a ring. Now is he playing for the Ironfield and the last person he expects to see is his best friends little sister. Rory is no longer the little girl Jude remembers. She's a neurologist and has achieved her dream of a fellowship. She is study the effects of concussion on players and may be the only person to keep Jude off the field but when he finds out her little secret he agrees to a plan that will benefit the both of them.

I really love Sosie's stories. I love that her heros don't have everything handed to them and they really struggle for that happy ending in life and in love. Jude is a veteran in the league and has his physical issues. Even though he is playing really well he doesn't know if the next hit will be the hit that ends him for good. I liked Rory even though she was a bit naive to me. Her whole situation with you know who was a bit much. I liked Rory and Jude together. This was a different take on the best friends sister trope since I have never seen a brother react like that! I love that Sosie's books have a real conflict to solve, not some made up thing that just seems to serve as a conflict. They are situations I can see happening in real life. I also love the whole football thing that has been continuing since the first book. I'm glad that got resolved because I was waiting for a certain person to get what was coming to them. I also love how Rory's family issues were solved in the end. Her books also have great banter between the Hero and Heroines. I found myself laughing at a lot of things in this book. But underneath it all it is a romance and these guys really love their women. The book was kind of slow to me in the beginning but picked up the pace towards the middle. I really likes the ending and enjoyed reading this book. Great job.

4.5 stars!!!...Jude and Rory are such a dear couple!!...Loved the topic of a veteran players struggling with the consequences of his carrier!...Jude is a great character and I really appreciated the way in which the author wrote his story!...Rory...was sometimes way to naive in my opinion but...yeah...overall this is my 2nd favorite book in the series and I'll definitely recommend it alongside Cole's story!^^

3-3.25 stars. This was an okay book for me. This is Jude and Rory's story. They grew up together, with Jude being Rory's brother's best friend. Rory always had a crush on him and they were close but he always thought of her as a little sister. Rory is now the team neurologist for a pro football team and she is hiding a pregnancy from a one night stand to protect her fellowship. Jude is a pro football player that has already had a good career, but has gotten a few too many concussions. He just got picked up by Rory's team, but he is hiding the bad effects from his concussions he is going through. He is surprised but happy to see Rory there, but not happy to find out the girl he saw as his little sister is pregnant. Rory can tell that Jude is not healthy enough to play, that one more concussion could seriously injure his brain. Jude wants to help his friend out with her pregnancy so he proposes that Rory clear him to play and he will pretend to be engaged to her so that her neurology fellowship won't be in jeopardy. She agrees and she moves in with Jude. They practice faking it together so they can fool their team and bosses and faking it turns to real feelings. They are both afraid to hope for more from each other after their arrangement is over though and Rory doesn't know just how much Jude is hiding about his symptoms. Everything comes to a head but it all works out in the end. Jude, Rory and their baby get a "happy family" ever after.

This book had all the ingredients to be a good read, but it just never really clicked for me. This was a biracial romance with a black heroine and a white hero, which I liked. I like pregnant heroines because I can identify with them easily. But I never felt any chemistry between Rory and Jude. They were kind of a bland couple. I liked Rory. She was a strong, smart heroine and a really hard worker. Jude was okay. He was a little passive and never really pursued Rory like I wanted him to. He was dealing with so much with his concussed brain and was often confused. There was a lot of internal monologue going on and not enough action for me. Also, I didn't really understand the deal with Rory's jerky boss in her neurology fellowship I didn't love Rory's stepmother drama either. But this was a completely safe read with zero OW/OM drama. The story was interesting and the writing was not bad. I just didn't end up loving it though.

Jude Owens was a future Hall of Famer. Football was his life. But his age and a series of head injuries were slowing him down. When he signed up for the Ironfield Rivets, he was shocked that the Team's Neurologist was his best friend's younger sister, Rory. And she had blossomed into a very beautiful woman, who's also got accidentally pregnant via a one-night stand by someone who wanted nothing to do with her or the baby. He offered her to become the fake boyfriend and the baby's Daddy. In exchange, he wanted a clearance to play and win that much coveted Championship.

However, as they spent more time together, Jude had realized that he had been lonely for a long time and that he wanted Rory and the baby to be his. On the other hand, Jude had been Rory's childhood crush and she's loved him for so long. Thus, she wasn't willing to risk giving him a clearance because another head injury will cost him his life.

Jude's love for Rory made him decide to make an ultimate sacrifice. But people manipulated both of them. However, in the end, Jude survived, and they both had a happily ever after .

HAPPILY EVER ALL STAR is a refreshingly beautiful interracial romantic sports comedy. I loved Jude's determination to win the Championship, despite the traumatic head injuries he's sustained, and his sweet efforts to make the very pregnant Rory happy. (Yep, there were lots of pregnant romance in this book). Most of all, the HEA was fantastic and heartwarming.

I am also excited to read the next book, which was hinted towards the end of this book. Sosie Frost's books keeps getting better and better.

I have read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Rory is a neurologist working for a pro football team. She has also gotten pregnant and the father wants nothing to do with her.
Jude is an allstar player suffering from a concussion and his future in the game is uncertain.
When Jude finds out that the teams neurologist is his best friends little sister and that she is pregnant he hatches a little plan to solve both of their problems.
With a fake relationship he wants Rory to help him with his concussion to keep him playing and he will pose as her baby's father. With a plan like this what could possibly go wrong?
This story is a very light, funny, heartwarming read. Rory and Jude are great together and their chemistry is off the charts. I really enjoyed this book!

After finding Beauty and the Blitz and Once Upon a Half-Time surprisingly charming, I thought this one was really disappointing. The whole plot is predicated on a pretend relationship to save Rory's reputation, because she is single and pregnant. Am I in a time warp? Because I don't understand how 'reputation ruined by pregnancy' is a valid plot device for a contemporary romance. Maybe this just means I really need to stay away from this Secret Baby trend. It also drove me a little nuts that she had every stereotypical pregnancy symptom imaginable and referred to her hormones as 'whoremones' like she should be ashamed. I ended up skim reading a lot of this one.

Sosie Frost has done it again. A satisfyingly, excellent book. Jude and Rory are adorable is this fake it until it's real sports romance. Rory finds herself pregnant and needs a man to keep up appearances. Enter Jude, the boy she had a crush on for 20 years. He's her stepbrothers best friend and didn't know what was right in front of him all along!

Better than book 3

I've enjoyed this series for the most part but have started skimming through some slow parts. I did less skimming in this book. I think the skimming in this book had more to do with my mood than the book.

I like Jude and Rory. Jude really was a great guy. He wasn't considered a player before. He didn't have a horrible reputation to fix. Just a concussion. A really, really bad one. I like that he was brought into the series again. He was the player Cole injured so badly in book 1.

This book is another example of minimizing the downfall of the bad guys. There should have been more on what happened and it should have been worse. In fact, we don't fully know what happens to one of them. We know he is under investigation. Luckily, the obnoxious Ainsley guy, the reporter isn't in this book for he returns in the Ironfield NHL series starting with Adrian.

There aren't as many sex scenes in this book and they aren't as good as in some others. The best ones from this author that I have read are in Adrian.

I hate that EVERY couple is biracial. Why not have some black men? Or at least a woman who is another race than black. The likelihood that every couple would have a white man and a black woman is low. Statistically speaking, two thirds the players should be black.

I like this author but she definitely has room for growth. I will be watching for the next book in the NHL series but I'm not going to read her previous books.

Really Good

Honestly what I loved most about this story was how detailed the worry was over Jude's head. The book didn't focus on the fact that he was a rich and famous football player. It focused on the way the love of the game or the need to win was placed ahead of the personal health of the players. It focused on just how bad Jude's injury was and how it was not only going to affect his future but the way it affected his now. And that makes this book truly standout in sport romance because it doesn't make the life of a professional athlete out to be all sunshine and roses.

On top of that so many scenes in this book were laugh out loud funny, not the health issues of the main characters, but like Doc showing up to her surprise baby shower in a pumpkin costume or having her bra snap the first time she runs into Jude.

The story isn't perfect, very few are, but I'd definitely recommend it.

This was another excellent book from Sosie Frost. I love sports romance. In this one we get a secret pregnancy, a sexy football player a certain team doctor has had a crush on for many years. Who just happens to be her step brother's best friend. A hidden health issue, a "fake" romance that starts to become very real with plenty of drama to follow. Jude is a super sexy football player while Rory is a kind and dedicated doctor. You want these two to go the distance. Unfortunately there is interference along the way. Will Rory tell Jude how she has felt about him all along? Will Jude be able to keep hiding his medical issues? Will Rory and Jude find their happily ever after? This was a sweet, sexy, captivating and intriguing story. It will make you laugh, cry and melt your heart. It left me feeling warm and fuzzy. I can't wait to read more from this lovely author. **

For the cheesy cover and lame title this book is actually amazing. The conclusion to this teams stories doesn’t leave you wanting more, but also makes you ache for just one more chapter.

Jude and Rory were perfection and the long term childhood friends pair with the serious head trauma that comes with football made this a beauty and touching story. Of course we still got some league drama and familial issues but it all only added to my fast paced enjoyment of this book.

And the series epilogue 😍😍😍😍😍

Jude and Rory have know each other since they were children. Rory has been in love with him for years and he only has eyes for football. After a hard hit from Cole in Beauty and the Blitz Jude should have given up his carrer, he instead tries to hide just how bad things have gotten for him so he can keep playing. After a series of events they begin telling people they are in love and the baby is Jude’s. Will Jude be able to hide his growing symptoms to make it to the championship? Will Rory be able to keep her feelings hidden from Jude during their charade? This book was very good and there is a nice extended epilogue that wraps up the series.

Although fictional, it was heartrending see Jude struggling with his memory due to a traumatic head/football injury. What was worse was watching Rory having to weigh loving him and her career as his neurologist and potentially ending up losing both.

The writing was well done and the main characters had chemistry in spades! The fact that Jude fell just as hard for a baby that was not his as he did for its mother had swoon-worthy written all over it.

The plot of this book is so fun and I really wanted to love it. But the constant metaphors and terrible spicy scenes just didn’t do it for me. This is th awful the last book in the series and I won’t be continuing with this author. I mean really with the pregnancy. Pregancy is hard but this book made it seem just worse. If you love pregancy tropes you’ll love this series and author. There isn’t a book without a pregancy.

I just adore this series <3 Smart, funny, quirky heroines, strong, sexy jocks and hilarious conversations and banter. I'm so sad Happily Ever All-Star was the last book in the series :( But I loved it just as much as the other stories, and will reread them for sure in the future.
