Yoga Darshan: Vision of the Yoga Upanishads

Rate this book
Yoga Darshan gives a contemporary yogic vision of the Upanishads as expounded by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati. Taking a holistic and practical view of spiritual life, this text provides a picture of yoga that is both panoramic and precise. In the theoretical section the different traditions and philosophies of yoga are clearly identified and explained along with clear expositions on hatha, raja, mantra, karma, jnana, laya and esoteric yogas. The practical section highlights classical practices from the Yoga Upanishads and the yogic perspective on physiology and health. Yoga Darshan is a unique and important text authored by a modern master of the yogic sciences.

This is a concise guide to the main yogic concepts and practices. Although this would need refering to many times if you are not familiar with the indian terminology, it is still a good way to gte to grips with the links between various practices and as a basic introduction to yogic philosophy. If you are looking for something more in depth, there are many books in the Yoga Publications Trust Series which are reliable. They may be difficult or expensive to obtain in Europe (luckily I got this supercheap whilst travelling in India) but I have previously got books from Amazon. Nothing quite like actually practicing yoga! These books can be a good accompaniment to your studies.

planning to begin Satyananda yogic studies next year and this is the primary text at entry level. The stars are for the dedication to a body of awareness and possibility that are at the heart of preserving and teaching this practice. i realized in conversation the other day that being near the Atma Center for Satyananda Yoga is not just a perk of living in my neighborhood, it has become a reason i would not choose to live elsewhere. like even a groovy city/state elsewhere:>

Niranjan is the hand-picked, hand-groomed successor to satyananda, a known sexual predator. The Bihar/satyananda tradition is an abusive, vindictive cult.
Avoid at all cost.
