BLOOD & RUST – Book #1

Jai Stone...

I met him in the shadows first. He was tall and broad-shouldered, a man walking a dangerous path of rage and revenge, barreling toward certain death. The more time we spent together, the more he showed me who he was.

Captivating…

Charming…

Ferocious in his own way…

I had no right following Jai into the abandoned industrial site, but I did, and that stupid mistake was all it took to rip me from my world of semi-normalcy and thrust me headfirst into the gritty criminal underground with Stone as my only ally.

Aboveground, I'm a student nurse painfully dragging herself through an unfulfilling life, but down here, where men wear tattoos on their faces and kill without remorse, I'm a fraud living on borrowed time...

...and not much of it.

SIN & SECRETS – Book #2

Anything can happen underground, and although our future is uncertain, there's one thing I know for sure…

Emily is working her way under my skin…
…and I'm letting her.

I sleep while chaos swirls around me, and all I can do is watch as anarchy brews. Recklessly, I seek comfort in a stranger, and somehow, I've let Emily thread our futures together. I should be thinking about saving my brother, but right now, she’s at the forefront of my mind.

I have to get her out of here.

I have to keep her safe…

At all costs.

SMOKE & METAL – Book #3

The feel of cool air on my skin is priceless. We are free, but we aren't out of the woods yet. Not by a longshot…

Can Skull feel it?

His impending downfall?

There’s a war coming, and I’m at the forefront of it. I will tear New York apart looking for my brother, and I won’t stop.

Emily thinks I’m crazy, but I’d do the same for her. There is no obstruction…

No building…

No cell…

That can withhold my family from me. I’ll find Joel. It’s only a matter of time…

RAGE & BULLETS – Book #4

Tension.

Aggression.

Betrayal.

How much stress can the human body endure before it folds in on itself? Whatever it is, I’m definitely reaching the peak. Things are supposed to be downhill from here, but my brother is hell-bent on saving a girl who isn’t his in the first place...

...and he can’t do it alone.

Do we even have what it takes to bring Joel's girl back from depths of the hell Skull has imprisoned her in? Or will our attempt be thwarted by Skull and the men he controls?

It’s a dangerous game Joel's playing, and it’s one that affects us all.

So I read all of these books separately an I have to say this, these books are LONG! Maybe as a box set, it flows better (?) and it doesn't seem to go on forever but I know as reading them separately I felt like this story could have ended by now. Not saying this story is not an interesting read. I have read many series stories, but at some point, it does have to end. Apparently not yet. If you are looking for an interesting read between 3 men and two women that fight for justice between them. And the story never ends, this is for you.

Genre: Action, Romantic Suspense, Crime
Standalone: No - Book 4 ends on a cliffhanger. There are at least 7 books planned in this series
POV: Emily and Jai
Steam Level: Mostly warm
4/5

Overall, I like this series. It's well written, action-packed, sexy, funny, and suspenseful. However, there's no need for this series to be stretched out like it is. This could have easily been one book by trimming some of the unnecessary waiting. I get that it builds tension - and the tension is present throughout - but I'd be frustrated and irritated if I had to keep buying the next book to see what happens. My suggestion is to buy the boxset and then read the others on Kindle Unlimited and/or wait until the story is complete.

Book 1: Blood & Rust
Genre; Romance - underground fighting
Standalone: no
Part of s Series:Yes - Book 1 on the Nee York Crime Kings series
POV: Emily aka Kitten
Steam Level: Toasty
4/5

This is the first book I've read by Skyla Madi and I'm hooked. Emily, a nursing student with a limited income follows the guys who caused her to drop and break her tablet that she uses to study. Things get crazy from there after thrown into an underground fighting ring. It's literally life or death. Adrenaline and the fight or flight instinct kicks in Who is this guy - sexy, dominant, protective and vicious? Jai has secrets, secrets that he only barely tells, secrets that can get them both killed. Sexy, dangerous and suspenseful Blood & Rust keeps you on the edge of your seat. And, while this ends in a cliffhanger, it's at a logical stopping point, that makes it an easier cliffy than some other books. I'll definitely be continuing this series.

Book 2: Sin & Secrets
Genre: Dark Romance, Suspense, Underground Fighting
Standalone: No - Read book 1 (Blood & Rust) first, also, cliffhanger
Part of a Series: Yes - Book 2 of the New York Crime Kings series
POV: Jai & Emily
Steam Level: Warm
4/5

The intrigue and suspense continues in Sin & Secrets, the second book in the New York Crime Kings series. I'm normally not a fan of Cliffhangers but this series is very well written. It's fast-paced and sucks you in. The twists and turns are breathtaking. Sin & Secrets keeps you on the edge of you seat, rooting for Jai and Emily. Deadly secrets are revealed and you don't know who to trust. Sin & Secrets is also quite funny, with the humor helping to break up the tension. I found myself laughing out loud at times while gasping and biting my nails.

Book 3: Smoke & Metal
Genre: Romantic Suspense, Dark Romance, Crime
Standalone: No - Read books 1 and 2 first And it's a cliffhanger.
Part of a Series: Yes - Book 3 of the New York Crime Kings Series
POV: Jai and Emily
Steam Level: Warm
4/5

While the writing and story are still gripping, I'm glad that I'm reading this in the box set. Smoke & Metal is book 3 of the New York Crime Kings. At the end of book 2 Jai and Emily escape. Book 3 starts right after. This is them on the run and Jai's continued quest for this brother. The anxiety is catching up to Jai. And so are his feelings for Emily. Overall Smoke & Metal is full of action, humor, heat, and adventure but it still doesn't end the story. While some things are resolved then last chapters opens up for book 4. I'm not sure how many books are planned (Book 7 is coming out in a week) but i'd recommend reading this in the box set and/or maybe waiting for the story to be completed.

Book 4: Rage & Bullets
Genre: Romantic Suspense, action
Standalone: - No Book 4 of the New York Crime Kings Series. Cliffhanger!
Part of a Series: Yes Book 4 of the New York Crime Kings Series
POV: Jai & Emily
Steam Level: Toasty
4/5

Let's be honest! I hate cliffhangers. I hate cliffhangers with a vengeance. Their are only two reasons this book gets 4 stars:
1. I read this in the box set of books 1-4 which I snagged when it was free. We're now on book 4 (or at least 7) and while the story builds and moves this is getting ridiculous. If I had to continue buying the books to finish the story I wouldn't, not at $3.99 each with each book being under 200 pages which I finish in a day or two.

2. The writing: Skyla Madi knows how to build an intense story with just the right amount of action, humor, and steam. And, while I will admit the writing is great and holds my interest I'm starting to become a little irritated. My suggestion would be to read these in the Kindle Unlimited program.

These books are fantastic. The first book hooked me and had me eager to read the next one. I signed up to read these books as part of the newer book’s release. I wasn’t sure but I am hooked. I am loving this series. This series is about Jai who is looking for his brother. He is fighting in underground fights in order to get Skull’s attention and possibly information on if he is still and alive and where he is, if he is still alive. Emily is pulled into what he is doing after following his off the train to confront him about breaking her tablet. The series continues from there about how Emily and Jai begin to care about each other, finding and rescuing his brother, and then rescuing the girl Joel fell in love with while with Skull. I highly recommend this series. The whole series is kind of a slow build. The books are very long ranging from 160-200 pages. They are quick great reads. Jai and Emily are fantastic characters. Skull is a sick twisted man and who knows what he will do when pushed. I highly recommend this series and I am excited to read what happens next.
I was given these books in return for an honest review.

Ok. So my brain is all over the place right now. I received the 1st book in the series as an ARC and so I started reading it. And I loved it. And then I read the 2nd one. And loved it too. And when I got a notification on my email that the box set is on sale on Amazon, I had to have it.
Because, hello, this is Jai we're talking about. How can I resist him? He's perfect and I just love him.
His story with Emily is so great and their relationship is so intense. It got me addicted right from the start.

Keeps you on edge

I enjoyed the book, but was highly disappointed with the end. I expected much more from a book that was good throughout the series.
