Every child loves his mother unconditionally. His heart's devotion finds its expression not only in words, but in an untiring display of little feats and accomplishments. With each new day, he finds creative ways to impress on his mother how much he not only loves her, but how deeply he treasures her and desires her approval. Children never tire of repeating the praises of their mother. They cherish the tenderest affection for her, whose loveliness is ever present before their eyes. In the home, they gather around her. When absent, they think of her and long to return to her gentle smile and loving embrace. In their appreciation of her, she is the best, the fairest, the greatest, yes, the noblest, the most lovable, the most beautiful of all women. There is none comparable to her. She surpasses all others. They brag about her to their playmates, and resent the slightest criticism of her. Their life is entirely wrapped in hers.
As devoted children of the Blessed Virgin Mary, it was our love for this incomparable Mother which caused us to write this book in her honor. And it is at the feet of this most admirable of mothers that we desire to lay our deed of homage. Even if every one of her children wrote a book, extolling her graces, there would still remain much more to be written in her honor. We cannot sing her praises too joyously, nor too often. The more we publish her perfections, her purity, her chastity, the more reason we will find to praise her many other virtues. God has raised her so far above all His creatures, that what all men, and even all nations, might do to her make her name grater would be, in comparison to His love for her, less than a raindrop compared to the waters of all the rivers and oceans of the world combined. If these pages will help even one mind know her better, one heart lover her more, or one more soul sing her praises, I shall deem my humble efforts well repaid. In writing this book about the Virgin Mother of our Redeemer, our own dear Mother, my soul's desire is to draw others to be her devout clients. They will stand with all the saints and angels of God, proving by their praises the truth of her glorious prophecy: "All generations shall call me blessed" (Luke 1:18)
Growing up my mother had a beautiful statue of “Our Lady of Grace” which was given to her by my older brother and sister. As a young family we prayed the rosary, on our knees, in front of the statue. Being the youngest I never knew that the Blessed Mother had other “titles”. All I knew was that the statue was beautiful! Obviously later, as I grew up, I learned that the Blessed Mother had many other “titles” such as Fatima, Lourdes or Guadalupe.
This book was an easy insight into the Blessed Mother and her many titles. I would have given the book five stars had it not had so many typos.
Oh. And by the way. My brother has the statue now… 😇
If you have ever prayed the Litany of Loretto, you know some of the beautiful names ascribed to Our Lady. When American Needs Fatima sent me this book, I was eager to read it to discover the origin of some of Mary's many varied and lovely titles. I admit it is not the most exciting read, but it is best read as a devotional book, one or perhaps two chapters at a time, more than that, it can become somewhat repetitive. But there are hidden surprises in there, such as some of Mary's more unusual titles, which are Scriptural and come from the Canticle of canticles. There is more information in the updates.
A worthwhile book to have in your Marian library if like to pray Litanies and of course for anyone who wants to get to know and grow in love for our Blessed Mother.
For anyone who has questions about Mary the Mother of Jesus, come meet her under one of her many titles. This book has about 47 chapters; each one named for one of Mary's titles.
You will learn why she has each particular title along with many, many Bible references.
It is a quick read for those who are familiar with Mary and her titles.
It's a great book for someone with little or wrong knowledge about Mary. (Like the thought that Catholics worship her-we don't.)
This book entitle "Holy Mary" written by the very Reverend C. J. O'Connell is all about Our Heavenly Mother. If you desire to learn more about our Blessed Mother; than this is the book. It is 135 pages that are filled with her magnificent titles that she is known. This book "Holy Mary" is the bedrock for getting to know and loving more Our Blessed Mother. One of the first prayers my beloved Mother taught me was "Holy Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you! Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen" This is not only a beautiful prayer but a powerful prayer in the act of conversion of sinners. Our earthy mother was the one whom we always remember as we grew up. Another great tradition in Catholic families is the daily saying together of the holy rosary. It is well-known that the family that prays together stays together. In holy scripture: Luke 1:18; it is written: "All generations shall call me blessed." The "Our Father" is a prayer, which is most pleasing to God and is said when we recite the holy rosary. This devotion of the holy rosary, which includes the saying of the "Hail Mary" comes directly from God through the Angel Gabriel, Saint Elizabeth, and the Church, inspired by the Holy Ghost. If you turn to page 135 you can read the complete explanation of the Holy Rosary. The next step is to say it daily. It is the greatest weapon against evil in the world. Saint Teresa of Calcutta was once asked by security agent if she was caring a weapon. Mother Teresa said yes! Of course; this caused quite a bit of excitement at the boarding gate. After she produced her rosary; everyone there quieted down and relaxed. The lesson is by praying the rosary daily and even more often your chances of spending eternity in heaven are exceedingly better. Throughout the history of the Church many holy men, holy women, and holy children have prayed the holy rosary daily. This devotion alone has brought them a plenitude of graces from heaven. Once you start carrying and praying the rosary you will never find yourself very far from Our Blessed Mother who like God loves each one of us very much. So, take up this good habit and you will find that your life will unfold with good order and discipline and you will focus on what is important in our lives as we journey along on earth knowing that we are in this world but not part of it. May God bless us all and may Our blessed Mother always be there for us when we ask for help.
This book was amazing! It taught me so much about our mother, Mary. It was a short book, and it was easy to read. I took my time reading it so that I was able to think more about what I read. This is a great book for any Christian to read to help them understand Mary's importance in our salvation.
