Paul Kalanithi, MD, was a Stanford neurosurgeon who was diagnosed with lung cancer in his mid-30s. He wrote a popular op-ed for The New York Times in early 2014 on confronting mortality. Here, he reflects on his changing perception of time as doctor, patient and new father. He died at 37 on March 9. Not only The Stanford community but the whole world mourns his loss.
The book I read was When Breath becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, which I couldn't find on Goodreads. Prepare to be knocked sideways when you read it. It is a desperately sad and thoroughly worthwhile read. My heart goes out to his family, his remarkable wife Lucy and their little daughter.
