Lorimar Pack, Book 1

War is a constant threat on Dell Preston's horizon. As beta of the Lorimar pack, her job is to maintain the peace on the new border between Faerie and Earth at all costs. Even if that means playing nice with her ex, Isaac, the fae who savaged her wolf's soul, and Enzo Garza, the flirty witch who ought to be focused on building up their magical defenses instead of tearing down the walls around Dell's heart.

Butler, Tennessee is a pinprick on the map with a diverse population of supernaturals. It's also chockful of humans who are unaware of the magical rift bruising the sky or the otherworldly insurgents raining down into their zipcode.

A local fae's disappearance catches Dell's attention, but she dismisses it as an isolated event. Until it happens again. Unable to ignore the strange happenings in her town, she begins an investigation that uncovers so much more than a simple rash of kidnappings.

Now Dell finds herself at the sharp end of a pointed ultimatum. Find the missing and return them to their families or get ready for prime time. Botch this job, and forget coming soon. The war will become tomorrow's featured attraction instead.

Hailey Edwards writes about questionable applications of otherwise perfectly good magic, the transformative power of love, the family you choose for yourself, and blowing stuff up. Not necessarily all at once. That could get messy.

Promise the Moon
Gemini
By: Hailey Edwards
Narrated by: Brittany Pressley
Lots of layers of issues in here! Very interesting! Fae are being kidnapped and the shifter pack is getting the blame. Tension is rising and our heroes go out to try to find out what is going on. What they find is very dangerous and unexpected! Great adventure and mystery besides all the other issues going on that kept me listen! Great book!
Narration was excellent!

Promise the Moon is book one in the Lorimar Pack series by Hailey Edwards. This was a nice start to a new series in the Black Dog world. It’s fast-paced, non-stop action, and adventure.

Ms. Edwards is a remarkable author. The writing is incredible, she mixes characters from her other series, and has way of pulling the reader into the adventure.

Promise the Moon is a spin-off. Dell is introduced to us in the Gemini series. This story is in Dell’s POV. She’s one tough cookie, Beta of the Pack, hurting since she is estranged with her mate, and really taking on too much plus she’s been burned one too many times in the past. Some of those people from her past want a second chance.

I wasn’t a fan of the rival triangle. One has always had a thing for Dell, but she never gave him a chance nor did she lead him on, then her estranged mate well that’s complicated. But the romance or lack of takes second places to the troubles that are plaguing the Lorimar Pack. People in town are going missing and fae from fairy are invading earth.

As for Dell I like her, but don’t love her. She never fully grabbed me like so many other characters in the Black Dog world. I read all the Gemini series; before picking up this spin-off series. I got to meet Dell in that series, so I have a better understanding on what’s going on and her character. I would recommend reading the Gemini series; before this, but you don’t have too.

And last, OMG…. I'm reeling from the ending or should I say it leaves you wanting more NOW!!

I enjoyed Promise the Moon and look forward to more and seeing what will happening next for Dell and the Pack. I highly recommend Hailey Edward’s especially if you enjoy Urban Fantasy. You will be taken on an adventure full of action, mystery, suspense, and more.

*My Thoughts*

Promise the Moon, by author Hailey Edwards, was originally called the first installment in the Lorimar Pack series. But, it is now been called the fourth book in the Gemini series. The Lorimar Pack / Gemini series features Dell Preston, who is the Beta of the Pack. Even though it is a whole new adventure, it does take place after the events of Hell or High Water which featured Camille Ellis. Cam makes a very brief appearance in this story.

Dell is left in charge of the pack when her Alphas are called away on a meeting.
What´s supposed to be business as usual turns out to be trickier than that, when fae disapperas, her ex comes back, and a flirty witch tempts her with more than just his wits.
This is going to get busy for Dell if she wants her Alphas to return to what they left..
Great addition to the series, love Dell and her capabilities.
PNR action, suspense and fluff in a great combo.

Hailey Edwards has crafted such a sympathetic heroine in Dell, I just want to surround her in bubble wrap and protect her poor fragile heart until it finally has a chance to heal.

Don't get me wrong. Dell is no wilting flower. She is tough as nails and she has to be, as the beta standing in for the absent alpha pair of the Lorimar pack. She is juggling a misfit band of wolves, new recruits, financial troubles...and a broken heart. Because that's what happen when your chosen mate doesn't choose you back. Your heart breaks.

We met Isaac in the earlier Gemini books. He's Cam's cousin...and I want to set him on fire. Dell loves him so much and he DOESN'T PICK HER. Yes, he comes back and obviously has some feelings for her. But dammit, Enzo deserves her more. Only... Enzo isn't who her heart wants.

I am so conflicted.

What I'm not conflicted about was how much I enjoyed this book and this world. Other than the romantic elements, there is a mystery surrounding missing townspeople, a rift between our world and faerie, and a fabulous cast of characters in and around the pack. (Who else here loves Zed? Raise your hand.)

Be prepared for a big cliffhanger here, but the plus side of reading backlist books is that the whole series is ready to inhale at once. Now excuse me as I jump into the next installment.

Before I say anything else, let me just start by saying I read these books totally out of order. I started with the Gemini series and read Dead in the Water first. I totally skipped the Black Dog Series and to this day I have only read book 1 in that series. But know before you read this book it's helpful if you read the Black Dog series, then the Gemini series, then this series as they are all part of the same world with some of the same characters.
I really enjoyed this series, I loved the Gemini series so much that I didn't want to leave those main characters and put off reading this one for awhile. But I did like it and I really liked seeing everything from Dell's point of view. I really love the misfits coming together for the Lorimar pack.

I loved Dell on the first books and I am so glad that Edwards gave her her own books! This book went deeper into pack life as a female and Dell’s background growing up and pack life as a submissive to being the pack’s second in command. Love a strong female lead that overcomes her past. I would definitely recommend this book especially because it continues the storyline of the first- This is a winner on my book shelf and cannot wait to get my read on with the following books!!

Book description in one word: Boring.

I just don’t care about the day-to-day runnings of establishing a pack.🤷🏾‍♀️

I feel like there are two kinds of book; there are the books a writer writes for his/herself and books a writer writes for an audience. This book feel to me like the former.

The pace, the details the author chose to highlight, the dynamics of the relationships and the focus in the dialogues all point to that. It all felt like a world the author built for her own purposes (likely escapism), and not a world that is particularly shareable or intriguing to other readers. I don’t know if this makes any sense.

The book was feel good emotion dump, with some supernatural stuff going on, bogged down in too much peopling, and way too much on the day-to-day workings of a wolf pack and then sprinkle a boring love triangle. The missing person case, was a side show, some not-so-well-developed add-on to the dynamic. It felt like a cheap way to placate readers, and an even cheaper attempt at movement in the plot. In other words, the “crime”, “mystery”, “investigation” and eventual antagonist sucked donkey balls.

There was no true conflict, build up or climax. The only ultimatum and dangers came towards the end and it was too little, too late. It honestly felt like an afterthought. Still, there was no true big bad to avoid, nothing to root for and no one to champion. If anything I wanted to throttle the main character for having no relationship boundaries. All the assertions and zero enforcement of boundaries, no healthy coping mechanisms and just “sis, fix your crap!!!”

I do respect and commend writers who write for their own eyes or build worlds they find comfortable, I do... However, when they intend to publish, I wish they’d use more complexities or make an effort to pique the interest of other readers, and open the world more for others to enjoy.

I truly do not relish giving bad reviews, especially not this one.

Ohhh my dear GAWD. I love this world. I sincerely love it. I mean, sure, I'd die in it in a heartbeat, but I completely love reading about it. I guess I'm trying to say that stepping into Dell's head as she attempts to keep the Lorimar pack doing their thing while the alphas are off playing nice with the conclave makes me happy. So happy. Even when things are all sorts of messed up, I'm thrilled.

And things are all sorts of messed up. Dell's running on fumes. Isaac's reappearance into her life after loving and leaving throws her for a loop. Enzo's nice as far as witches who tortured her packmates go, but he's not the one who's renting space in her heart and there's not much she can do about that.

Oh, and there's the matter of those missing folks.

Things are complicated for the Lorimar pack right now and they really don't look like they'll be getting any better in the near future. FOR REASONS. Big reasons.

Buuuut, we did get some flirty time with Dell's two dudes. Admittedly, one's more flirty than the other, but that happens. I'm rooting for Isaac. He gave us a few hints that there's more to him than you can see on the surface and I like him and Dell together. But all good things take time. That's what I keep telling myself.

Right. So go out and read everything you can find with these characters and this world and this crazy war that's brewing. You'll thank me later. Promise.

2.5 stars

The story jumps forward a number of years and it wasn't smooth enough to stop me from wondering if I'd missed a book in between. Also, Edwards chose to advance a previously secondary character to become the MC in this next arc. I never felt particularly attached to this secondary character and I can't say that I'm feeling any differently now.

There were the obligatory self flagellation scenes that get old very quickly, although not too many. There's a love triangle blossoming and that's always fun (not). And the primary romance, which was just budding in the last book, was advanced enough to have failed with the schmuck that left now back trying to squirm his way back in.

Finally, it was a non-ending. Not a true cliff hanger, just a thorough 'tune in next week, same bat time, same bat channel" sort of sneak peek.

Not my favorite in the series.

Dell might as well be the alpha because her alphas are absent.

She is being run ragged with all the tasks she is expected to do to keep the pack together and protect the rift between Faerie and Earth. You would think the Earthen Conclave would send more help but all they can do is fight amongst themselves.

I am not too excited about either of the men in Dell's life. Isaac is a man whore and Enzo seems too nice and the nice guys never win.
Plus, Isaac already broke her heart. Is there a third option?

I had a hard time getting into this one but once I did it moved along quite fast and was hard to put down. Thought the characters were great and even liked Dell's insecurities. They made her seem much more realistic. The cliff hanger makes me want book two immediately.

Attention capturing

This book is absolutely attention capturing! I'm not a lot for books that have detective like structure to them, but this book held my attention the entire time! The main character is very strong and holds her ground in many circumstances that a lot of these types of books do not in relationships! As someone with adhd, I tend to always jump ahead in books and know the end of books, which was not the case that was very refreshing! I highly recommend it it is worth your time spent reading!

It did take me a couple of chapters to get into the book, but I’m glad I kept with it. I feel like Dell may have been introduced in another book. Since I enjoy Hailey’s book, I will need to check out her other series.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and the narrator. The ending made me want to immediately pick up book 2.

Freaking bloody Fae. That ending? Seriously?

How can they assign blame when the leadership is incommunicado and no one shared info? 🤬😡

OK, it’s totally on me that I didn’t realize this was not going to be Cam narrating anymore. I blindly added the entire “Gemini” series on my phone and have been plowing my way through them. After the third book in the series and then the short story that bridges, I was shocked to find us in Dell’s head.

Maybe with more warning I could have been prepared, but this Dell seems very different from the fun and quirky girl we met with Cam. Dell fought to become beta of the Lorimar pack and found herself in a one-sided relationship with her mate, Isaac. Since the narrator at the time didn't know much about their relationship, it is a little hard to start this book understanding the heartbreak Dell went through. Without the backstory or all the details, this first book in the series had a bigger hill to climb than the other books so far. Isaac left, so what? Convince me why they are this wonderful love story. At the start, we know more about her witch friend who still pursues her than Isaac.

What I really liked about this book was Dell’s friends. I could take or leave the love triangle dudes, but want to see more of Dell leading, having supportive friends, eating cupcakes, etc. Even when Isaac does show up, I am still not getting the romance vibes at all. It’s like fated mates but without the love story at all. Weird. I’m forgiving it because I do really enjoy Dell and this story with all its weird fae was interesting.

The larger story (and better, really) was about how the pack is protecting the new entrance from faerie to Earth and hunting down whoever is stealing away folks in town. I liked watching Dell find her footing with the accidental alpha position she’s got here while her true alphas are off trying to solve big fae stuff. While we do get another cliffhanger, it wasn’t as much painful as it was out of left field. This author has a thing for stopping the story mid-stride, so I am somewhat used to it.

This is more of a 3.5 stars to me if I'm honest....I liked Dell, she's a nice and vivacious personality to get into and I like her thought process, but I thought the romance wasn't set up so well. I'm usually not a fan of the entire "we were together before but broke up and then the book starts" trope, because we never really get to see the relationship develop...and I definitely think this book suffers from that.
We only ever get to see Isaac from Dell's rose-colored but at the same time broken-hearted view and I never really got the sense of who he was as a person or why she fell in love with him to begin with. Not to mention that
That being said, like all books from this author, I did enjoy the writing, the action is fast paced and I really enjoy exploring more of the world and well, if you liked the Black Dog and Gemini Series, you should probably check this one out, too. I really hope the next two books explore more of the relationships and the characters unique personalities, but it's not a bad start to a new trilogy.
However, I would not recommend entering this universe with this series - while I've read somewhere that it can be read as a standalone, this one definitely is very dependent on the series that came before it and even the Gemini series would be very hard to understand if you didn't read the Black Dog books before that (believe me, I tried). Still, they are all pretty similar in tone, so if you like these sorts of books, best start at the beginning and work your way through.

Heather's Notes
I was not as happy with this story. First it ends in a cliffhanger, which I hate!! Then it also does not explain things very well. I do not understand how they are holding Dell responsible for the prince being kidnapped. He went with them of his own free will and did not explain anything to them. Also the magistrates were not helping at all. They were doing what they were told to do and then punished for it. It is an obvious ploy to move the plot and was not well thought out. Still I like the characters and will probably read the next one eventually.

Argh, I had mixed feelings about the last series from Hailey Edwards, the Gemini Series and so although I requested this book, the first in a new series from NetGalley I was a little reluctant to start reading. I needn't have worried - this had me hooked from start to finish.

Adele (Dell) Preston is the Beta of the newly formed Lorimar Pack which is singlehandedly fighting the fae who are breaking the barrier between Faerie and earth. When her alphas are called to a Conclave meeting Dell is left alone to manage the pack, test potential new recruits, develop some camaraderie between what is essentially a pack of misfits, find some money to pay for all the pack needs and build a new pack facility. Add to that mix a sexy Warlock who has been flirting with her for months, missing restaurateurs and the return of Dell's mate (although it has to be said the male in question does not seem to share Dell's feelings) and this is one big adventure from start to finish.

I loved Dell, she bears the weight of the world on her shoulders and she is desperate to make her alphas proud, she makes strong friendships, she's funny and she accepts a job investigating the mysterious disappearances from a small child. As always, there are a wild variety of weird and unusual fae, both good and bad, and an intriguing cliffhanger for the second book.

I think Hailey Edwards has reverted to some of her best writing/ plotting with this book and I avidly look forward to the next one.

I received a free copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

“Promise the Moon” is an excellent start in the Gemini spin-off series, the Lorimar Pack. This is Dell Preston story as Beta. Cam and Grayson are off with the Conclave playing politicians while Dell is left to handle the the start up of the pack.

The story begins with Enzo, a witch from the Chandler pack showing up to help sure up the defenses for the Lorimar pack. Meanwhile, one of the owners of a local restaurant has gone missing and Dell has been recruited to find out what has happened to him.

When another restaurant owner goes missing Dell concerns increase. To make matters worse Dell’s soulmate, Isaac, returns back into her life just as she has vowed to rid herself of the despair she has been suffering.

There is a lot going on in this installment and culminates in a cliffhanger ending. There is plenty of action, intrigue and rivalry for Dell’s attention. I’m not a big fan of love triangles; so, I hope this issue gets resolved quickly in the next book. For those of you who are listening to the audio book version there is a new narrator who doesn’t use the southern accent for Dell the previous narrator used. In my humble opinion I think this is a mistake. That accent really embodies who Dell is. Oh well, you can’t have it all.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

Somehow I forgot to rate this book / series years ago.

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

3.9 stars. Edwards is excellent at crafting a story, certainly of the urban fantasy variety. The narration for this series is very different from the one that precedes it (which I liked better). There was excess poetic waxing but the adventure was there and we don’t get bogged down in too much heart ache.
Poor Dell has been through the wringer and is doing her best to manage the Lorimer pack in her role as Beta when it had previously been handled by two alphas. She’s not used to running any show but wants desperately to be valued and earn to keep her place. The pack has the newly minted job of guarding The Rift from Fae fleeing through the portal that hovers over a giant lake.
There’s a mellow love triangle of longing looks and a wonky mystery to add to the mix. The world is solidly and thoroughly built as in all Edwards’ books and there is sufficient back story and character building to get a sense of who everyone is.
The characters in this series are goofier than I’m used to from her but some of that may have had something to do with the narration.

Promise the Moon is Book #8 in the Black Dog series (Lorimar Pack #1) by Hailey Edwards.
Diving into The Black Dog Universe was a total treat – as Hailey Edwards has basically built this interconnected world where magic, supernatural politics, and snarky banter all collide - and it’s addictive.
The series doesn’t just stick to one MC - instead, it hops between different main characters whose stories overlap in clever and intriguing ways. We get werewolves, fae, witches, and all sorts of supernatural chaos - but what really makes it shine is how human the characters feel, even when they’re not technically human. They’re flawed, funny, and sometimes make terrible decisions - which makes them all the more relatable.
If you like your fantasy worlds rich and immersive, your characters messy in the best way, and your plots full of supernatural intrigue - then this universe is definitely worth diving into. Just be warned - once you start, you just might end up binge-reading the whole thing, just like me.
Happy Reading…

I really loved the first 2 sets of books in this world but unfortunately this on has fallen short so far. I fell like I'm just getting a mash of Thierry's story (having to figure things out on her own and fighting fae that are breaking laws) and Cam's story in reverse (it Dell's wolf that found her mate (a Gemini) and her mate not being sure this is what he wants). It feels like to much of the same i wish Dell would have at least been given a mate that wasn't the same story as the last.

There were good things thats why it has 3 stars I loved the dynamic in the pack, how everyone is kinda working for some kind of redemption. I love the world that was build and all the amazing creatures. Also I enjoyed the bits of Cam and Thierry I got cause I already miss them. I hope the next one is better but I dont have much hope I feel like its just a play on when Thierry went to get Shaw from Faerie.
