I received an Advance Reader Copy from the author and publisher. This is no way impacted in my view.
In Catwalk Criminal, Jessica is now a fully fledged member of Westwood, and the face of a new line of designer clothing, by the up-and-coming designer, Ossa Conway. She's struggling to keep her personal and work lives private, especially when it comes to having to cancel plans with her boyfriend, Jamie, or best friend, Becky, in order to complete a really important mission. She's not the only one facing problems - the whole of the country and MI6 are suffering at the hands of a cyber-terrorist group, known as The Collective, and its elusive leader, LibertyCrossing. Jessica finds herself right at the centre of the action, and she may be the only person able to fix everything, and save herself, before it's too late.
Catwalk Criminal was a wonderful addition to this series, and in my opinion, even better than the first two instalments. Jessica is more secure in her position at Westwood in this book, and she is able to develop herself as both an agent, and as a person in general. I felt as though this allowed her to be more involved in the action, which the book was full of, as see wasn't second guessing herself all the time.
I really enjoyed the new characters, especially Zak, and the ways in which Jessica interacted with them. I did miss Kat though, and I hope she'll be back again in later novels. All of the characters, both new and old, were wonderful in their own ways, though some I wanted to slap/give a shake at times. Though the romance played quite a big role in this book, with the introduction of a love triangle that I don't exactly mind, I never felt as it retracted from the plot or from the action. If these issues hadn't have been dealt with, it probably would have been more confusing, as it all intertwined in some areas.
The fact that this book series is UKYA contemporary spy fiction makes it all the more better. Most of the time, YA spy books are set primarily in America, e.g. The Gallagher Girls series, and I loved seeing familiar places and settings in the book, especially when some of the characters came up North to Durham. I've said it before that I need to read more UKYA, and this is one of my go-to series for that. I could never recommend this series enough, and I'm just so glad I picked up book one, Code Red Lipstick, from my library last summer, as I've never looked back since.
It was a really good book, lots of misleading pages however it makes the book more interesting. I really enjoyed reading it and I would reccomend it highly!!
This book is so good!!! I have read the first and second and I couldn’t wait to read the third. At the end Margret injured Becky and Jessica was crying, and Jessica said that she would kill Margret so matter what. Then that was the end of the book. There isn’t a fourth book and I am so annoyed! It was so good and there isn’t anything after it!!! But I really hope the author will make another one because it was one of the best books I have ever read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Finished the series recently(yeah too late) but it was sooo good hard to put it down i got addicted too this book but i am dissappointed that there is no fourth book!! There is a line at the end of the book which concludes that there must be a fourth part so i still hope that sarah sky will write the fourth part because i m eagerly waiting for it i just want the fourth part soon... Please!!!
It’s a three star story but the plot is not resolved by the end yet this seems to be the last book. It was published in 2015 and no further books have been published. Therefore downgraded to a 2 star.
This book plunges straight into the action, with Jessica chasing a target up to the rooftop of a building. I have always loved how action-oriented this series is, and this installment is no different. It is full of dramatic action scenes, such as the aforementioned chase up a skyscraper, high-security prison breaks, and escapes from exploding warehouses. As usual, Jessica had a multitude of gadgets disguised as accessories, such as hair sprays and powder compacts that could knock people out, bracelet charm explosives, and trainers with electric stunners. It is quite fun to read about how these are incorporated into the story. I also love how everything in this series, from the gadgets to the crime and clues, are highly-linked to fashion. In contrast, Zak had more James Bond-esque gadgets, such as laser pens and bionic contact lenses. Compared to the rest of the series, this book is heavier on the romance, even developing onto a love triangle. Jamie had always been someone outside of Jessica's spy-work, and they officially became a couple. Unfortunately, her life as a secret agent and outside of it started to collide, and she had to keep blowing off Jamie for her missions and keep secrets from him until he thought she was cheating on him. Zak was not exactly helping things whenever Jamie caught him together with Jessica. Jessica couldn't tell Jamie that they are on a mission, but sometimes Zak seemed to purposely cultivate the false appearance that Jessica is cheating on Jamie with him. I get that he thought that is easier to explain away than trying to come up with other reasons to keep Jessica's spy work a secret, but there is a part of him that is trying to break them up because he wanted to be with Jessica and thought he suited her more. Unfortunately, both Zak and Jamie are not very likable as a romantic interest. This reveal of Zak being (spoilers:)a secret agent too from a rival programme is kind of expected though, since Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series already did the whole opposite-sex-spy-counterpart-programme thing. While Jessica has good investigative abilities and instincts, she still hall into the trappings of many YA protagonists. She kept a lot of her suspicions and findings to herself, which played a big part of her incriminating herself. It can be a bit annoying and seems stupid in hindsight, but I guess they are understandable given the situations she were in. I do admire how she is tenacious in finding out the truth and clearing her name. I had enjoyed the mystery and how closely it emulates how huge crimes can be committed with the technologies we have right now and in the near future. Sadly, this book has the strangest ending ever. I would have thought I have an incomplete book if not for the acknowledgements at the end. The book ended on an intriguing cliffhanger, which is not solved and seemed like the setup for another installment. It would have been great if there is actually another book in the series. Maybe there was another installment planned but it was scrapped. This installment has been published for a while now, so if a sequel is coming, it would have done so by now. There are just too many loose ends, and the love triangle is never resolved either, leaving the conclusion of the series quite unsatisfying.
Wow! Super spy Jessica Cole is back with a bang in this third instalment of this brilliant series and I loved every page of it!
This book kicks off six months after the end of the second book, Fashion Assassin, where we join Jessica in an action packed opening in the Shard in London! Following completing training she is now a full member of Westwood (a secret agency of models who work for MI6) and we join her on her first mission!
Her first mission does not go to plan and puts Jessica in danger and then there's a cyber attack on MI6 HQ causing mayhem around London..... could there be a mole inside the Westwood camp that wants rid of Jessica?! What pursues is a race against time to stop a group called The Collective who are working on behalf of the mysterious Liberty Crossing causing mayhem and putting MI6 agents life in danger!
With many twist and turns and action it was impossible for me to put this book down! Just when I thought I had it sussed Sarah Sky throws another twist or a curve ball to really make you keep guessing what's going to happen right up till the very end!
As well as being a super spy Jessica has also joined this top secret wing of MI6, Westwood, to find out the truth about her Mom's death! I love how this story line has carried through all three books and I was routing for Jessica all along to discover the truth....okay, okay I wanted to know the truth ...the pages flew whilst I tried to find out!
The other two books have been set in different countries ie Paris, Monaco, but Catwalk Criminal keeps the action close to home in London. This, for me as a reader, gave this book a more homely feel. Whilst I love reading stories set in different countries this just felt right and in a way gave Jessica more depth to her character as we got to see more of her home life, school life, MI6 HQ and personal life. Which brings us onto a new character that was introduced in this book.....
Zak!
Oh Zak! The gorgeous Calvin Klein model! *daydreams* He befriends Jessica and makes her boyfriend Jamie very jealous and her best friend Becky weak at the knees.....apparently he's very good looking and I adored him! We are also introduced to a fashion designer Ossa Cosway who Jessica exclusively models for....he is just how I imagine a fashion designer to be. We also get our fix of model spy regulars Jessica's Dad, Grandma and MI6 top bloke Nathan!
The struggles and strains of being a super spy / model / teenager really were evident in this instalment of the books where Jessica not only battling cyber threats also has to deal with hiding her life from her best friend and her boyfriend which causes Jessica numerous conflicts....I really felt for her as a character and I think this also cemented, for me, why the setting of London, Jessica's home, was more fitting for the story.
Favourite parts of the book for me were the action scenes in a boarding school, prison and an old abandoned warehouse! They were fast paced and had my heart racing! There was also some funny parts that made me chuckle especially when because of the cyber attacks all the teachers at Jessica's school end up being put on a website called OAPdating.com and all the pupils at the school are listed on eBay with a starting bid of 1p! Genius and very funny!
I loved the nods to the previous books and characters like Kat from Fashion Assassin, Allegra Knight and I have to shamefully admit my tummy did a little flip when Margaret was mentioned! I will say no more, but Sarah Sky does a fantastic job of summarising the first two books and giving the reader a little bit of background / reminder or previous events as well as letting us know what the likes of Kat or Margaret are up to now.....
As always there are super cool and awesome gadgets galore #squee ! My favourite gadgets this time around were Taser trainers! Want! A diamante key ring scanner! Want! Thermal imaging contact lenses! Want! And a lipstick that can cut electricity! *jumps up and down like Verruca Salt and shouts I WANT IT NOW!* :-) Such cool gadgets!!!
I have heard this may be the final Jessica Cole book......yep I know right?! We want more! *bats eyelids at Sarah Sky and Scholastic*....in all honesty this whole trilogy has been fantastic and I LOVE Sarah Sky's writing style and stories so I am really excited for what is next to come from this brilliant UKYA writer....whatever it is I will be picking up a copy without a doubt!
I really would recommend this book and the whole trilogy to any one looking for an action packed adventure with a hint of mystery, humour and a kick ass heroine!
If ever I were in trouble I would call Jessica Cole….or if she’s not available definitely Sarah Sky who is a master of Karate and could do some serious damage! *gulps*
Right ....I'm now off to day dream some more about Zak *drools*
Catwalk Criminal by Sarah Sky is the third novel in the Jessica Cole: Model Spy series. Jessica is working with MI6 to take down a crazy cyber hacker with an agenda; to get a high security criminal out of prison.
I really enjoyed this book in the series, I think that all the books are equally amazing as each other. However, with the other two preceding novels there was always something quite irking about something; but this book was amazing and just skipped that aspect.
I also think that Jessica was an awesome character, she was a lot more mature in the book than she was previously and she got over things really quickly. In the past books she would continually fret about something, but this book she really got up and moving!
This book was so gripping, a sat around and read about 150 pages at once, and I very rarely do that, apart from with books by the lovely Sarah Sky
I also also heard from that gossip girl next door that this may be the conclusion to the series. This is what I think about that;
"NO NO NO NO YOU CAN'T DO THIS I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO LILY HANG ON WHY DON'T YOU SO I CAN ACTUALLY FIND OUT"
So I am putting in a request for another 3 books, and a novella series. Yep, that sounds about right!
I would definitely recommend picking up this book, I loved it, you'll probably love it. I got into mystery with this series and it is awesome! I can't credit it highly enough!
In Catwalk Criminal the fashion industry is as cut throat as Jessica's gadgets are cutting edge.
Really enjoyed this 3rd instalment to the Model Spy series. It has all Sarah's trademarks - pace, action, high stakes — a twisty turny and a great red herring. The cyber-hacking plot-line really made me think about how vulnerable we truly are to cyber-terrorism, how much of our security is hackable!
Jessica really develops as a character over the course of the series, becoming more confident in her abilities, and more determined to solve the overarching mystery of her mother's death. In this book we get to know best friend Becky and swoon-worthy boyfriend Jamie and I loved seeing the development of those relationships. I especially liked complicated bad boy Zack and Jessica's tense relationship with him, these tow have a dangerous chemistry and razor-sharp banter.
Can't give too many spoilers - but the tech in this book is even more cutting edge, and all painstakingly researched - it could really happen!
This rounds the three books off brilliantly, but I do wish there were more to come, now Jessica's now fully committed to her triple life as model, schoolgirl, and spy.
Wow again Sarah Sky didn’t disappoint in this third instalment of the Jessica Cole series. She really is back with a bang, as with book two this is set six months after the previous books and with every book we see how Jessica is really developing as a character.
Every page had me turning to find out what would happen next, especially they theme around Jessica’s mum and how she died, I really wanted to know.
As with previous books nothing goes to plan and Sarah shows Jessica to be exceptionally resourceful.
With this book we don’t have the fabulous locations but is set a little bit closer to home which I really enjoyed.
Can’t wait to read more and find out how Jessica develops and hope there are many more books to come.
WOW Sara Sky has done it again another fantastic book blended with models and spy's. Read through this book really quickly as it was amazing and action packed. I So so so so cant wait till the next book comes out.
