First published in 1990, An Act of War is an account of an imaginary conflict between Australia and India over control of a group of Indian Ocean islands. The book covers both the political and military dimensions. Naval and air operations dominate the military aspects. Initially the book was a best-seller in the limited Australian market but is now largely unobtainable.
I first read this book at least 20 years ago and I think I read it in a day back then. I probably would have given it 4 stars back then and though I still enjoyed it this time, I don't think I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time. It was still a good read though - it just didn't have the polish I now expect from books I would give 4 stars to.
