Gena Showalter is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of over seventy books, including the acclaimed Lords of the Underworld series, the Gods of War series, the White Rabbit Chronicles, and the Forest of Good and Evil series. She writes sizzling paranormal romance, heartwarming contemporary romance, and unputdownable young adult novels, and lives in Oklahoma City with her family and menagerie of dogs and cats.
It was really great and I enjoyed it immensely. Shaye was an amazing character and really kickass. She didn't succumb to the Nymph's pheromones and held her ground. She gave Valerian a hard time at seducing her.
“Perhaps they’re too much like you. Arrogant, bossy, pigheaded, stubborn, half-witted, spoiled, demanding, self-absorbed and morally corrupt.” When she paused for breath, he grumbled, “Is that all?” “No. Horny. Overbearing. Mean.” She paused, tapped a finger against her lips before nodding. “That’s all.” “‘Mean’?” He frowned. “I’ve been the epitome of nice, catering to your every whim.” “Did you not steal me from my home? Have you not refused over and over again to return me?” He tossed his arms up. “This again.” “This always.”
And I loved Valerian character. How can you not love a possessive alpha hero?
“You’re mine,” he grated. “Actually, I’m mine.” “Fine. I’m willing to share you with you and only you.”
In all it was a really enjoyable read.
“You are a rose worth every prick of thorns. I would choose you always.”
Fantastic book, loved the updated version of The Nymph King, and yeah, reading The Beautiful Ashes again! I can't wait for the rest of the Broken Destiny series to come out!
The star rating for this is hideously unfair because it’s based on two radically different books.
Jeaniene Frost’s Beautiful Ashes is definitely 5 stars. The story grabbed me from the first line and held my attention the entire way through. It’s filled with the, “Oh, I have to keep unnecessary secrets and endanger our lives and relationship” trope that I just absolutely loathe, but the story is so good that I still didn’t want to give it up.
Gena Showalter’s Nymph King, on the other hand, is just awful. The characters are flat, the dialog is ridiculous, and the plot is basically nonexistent.
Get this book. Beautiful Ashes is worth the price on its own. Do yourself a favor and skip Nymph King, though.
*****Read Jeaniene Frost's story only until I catch up on Atlantis series*****
This was a great NA paranormal read!! It captivated me from the get go and didn't release me until I finished! It was action packed, angsty, and had romantic tension. I loved the characters, the twists, and surprises. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
The Nymph King - This was a fun read. Hot and humorous at the same time. I love the back and forth banter. The situations sometimes verged into silliness, but that's okay because it fit perfectly.
The Beautiful Ashes - I've read this before, on its own, and enjoyed reading it again.
The book was good but I did not realize I was getting stories that had already been published! I had not read the Gena Showalter one and liked it. I had read the Jeaniene Frost one. I liked it the first time but did not re-read it.
I love The Nymph King and it was the reason I bought this book. Although the main characters are Valerian and Shaye, I loved Joachim and Brenna's story more.
This book has 2 short stories in it. Both are really fun. The first by Gena Showalter will make you want to explore her writing further (it did for me!). Fantasy mixed with romance and a tad on the spicy side... great for a summer read!
I loved The Nymph King by Gena Showalter, it was laugh out loud funny and sweet. I only like The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost, it just lacked that something that her other books have.
The Nymph King -3 Stars Shayne was kinda annoying and without the "mate" thing going on I don't think Valerian would have been that into her. I couldn't see any reason to like her
The Beautiful Ashes -4 Stars I really got into this story and looking forward to the rest of this series
The Nymph King was an awesome read, I enjoyed the love story and the little bit of fantasy added. The beautiful ashes was the pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the play off of the bible. Easy an enjoyable read!
