In this book, I've read some of the most encouraging stories of God's power being displayed! It certainly encourages one to fast regularly and highlights the power that God graciously gives through fasting because our satisfaction of God glorifies Him. However, throughout the book, I find that Chavda's claims were not supported adequately (aka. explained so I would know why he says these) and that his hermeneutics were at times badly made. I appreciate his explanation of charismatic teachings related to fasting and the Great Commission, but people of other denominations may have a hard time getting through the book. I also lost interest in various parts of the books because I personally had difficulty connecting with the author's style. For these reasons, I give the book a 2. I would recommend it only to people of charismatic faith or to people who have an interest in miracle stories.

Filled with Biblical examples along with personal testimonies, this book lays out the duty of Christians to include fasting with their prayers. I'd read this originally a couple years ago and recently picked it up again. I remember my original response. I had heard enough messages about how fasting is a spiritual discipline and the whole thing turned me off. Then I read this for the first time and it turned around my thinking. For the first time, I could see the joy that can come as a result of seeking the Lord this way. Reading the book this time, I found myself thinking of various experiences I've had over the last few years of some sort of fast with the objective of seeking the Lord for some specific direction and the wonderful ways those prayers were answered. Confirmation that it doesn't have to be a chore.

Excellent Book! This is my 2nd time reading this. Read it many years ago. Mahesh has a way of writing and engaging you. The content of this book is very easy to insane follow and Apply! I am certain I will read it again at some point in the future - it is just one of those refreshing “refreshers” that reminds you of God’s word concerning prayer and fasting. One of my favorite books!

Jesus said 'when you fast' not, 'if you fast'. Fasting is not talked about enough in the modern western church. It seems to have been neglected with other spiritual disciplines as optional, which is not what Jesus says. I have been a member of churches for my whole life, yet I cannot remember having any teaching on fasting whatsoever. I borrowed this from a friend. It is excellent. I'm going to buy my own copy. It talks about the basics of fasting, taking principles directly from scripture. Mahesh also shares the many personally-witnessed testimonies of the power God unleashed through prayer and fasting. He also talks frankly through the types of fast, how to break a fast, and what to bear in mind if you have healtg problems that would be affected by fasting etc. I think this is an essential for any Christian or 'little Christ' who wants to live as Jesus commanded us, especially those who, like me, don't feel they would know where to start.

Although there are aspects to the book I don't agree with (homosexuality is a demon that needs to be exercised out of people) the overall message is good. We need to pray. Pray for our nation, our family, our church, and community. And we are called to fast too. And it answers questions as to why we should fast and what power there is behind fasting. I'd recommend it to someone who believes in the power of prayer and wants to kick it up a notch.

Probably one of the best books on fasting written in the past 20 years based on its autobiographical portions alone. Few have borne the fruit Chavda has before writing on this subject. The richest part of the testimony tells of his working in a hospital for mentally handicapped children in Lubbock in the 70's. The deliverance and healing of a boy named Stevie, after Mahesh fasts 14 days, is what launches Chavda into a lifestyle of fasting and further ministry dreams.

Awesome

This book inspires one to go after one of the most unused tools in the Christian church and that is fasting and the powers it hold I recommended it for anyone who wants to know about fasting without out having to read a complicated message. #Awsome

Ten chapters covering the purpose and practice of fasting.

Not just something for biblical times, but Mahesh Chavda explains the importance of foregoing food in order to press in to the presence and power of God and illustrates his points with multiple examples from his own life and ministry.

Perhaps his most impactful point is how the gospel writers say that Jesus went into the desert to be tempted after His baptism, 'full of the Holy Spirit', but emerged 40 days later 'in the power of the Spirit.' A crucial difference that may motivate us to wards pursuing this discipline.

10 million brilliant shining stars. This book has rocked my world. Everyone who wants to grow in their relationship with Christ and learn to actually break through barriers and tap into his power and know him in deeper ways should ABSOLUTELY read this book. I will read and reference this one again and again and again because it's so important and unfortunately, not talked about NEARLY enough. I am SO thankful for this book.

Glad I read it because it challenged my perspective however I would not recommend. I dont think he communicated clear points throughout the chapters. It felt like a book just focused on all of his stories, which could be encouraging at times, however by the end of a chapter I dont think It was super clear what the takeaway was supposed to be. I felt like every story communicated similar themes and it seemed pointless for this book to even be divided into chapters.

The exclamation points and italicized words weren’t enough, this also felt like it was laced with hyperbole. Maybe the author is sincere, but calling a book The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting and then proceeding to show how prayer and fasting really are the most obvious thing throughout scripture exposed the title as the charismatic clickbait that it is. Am I a charismatic clickbait clicker? If I am, at least now I’m a fasted one.

I loved the testimonies in this book and the countless examples he used to show why fasting is a very important key for the Church as a whole or as an individual to achieve breakthrough. I also liked that he included frequently asked questions about fasting to help clarify what is acceptable to God.

3.5 stars. I felt like there was some really good passages on fasting in this book, but there was also some chapters that had me raising my eyebrows a little. Overall, this book is worth a read if you, like me, are new to fasting for God.

This book really helped unlock the "mystery" of fasting to me. It helped to break off any religious and legalistic views I had about it before reading it.
