The Bootstrap story continues 16 years after the first contact was made with the Extraterrestrials. The response from Gliese 3742 arrives but the message is not quite what people expected. The people on Earth need to unite and welcome billions of galactic refugees, who come seeking for a new home. Alexa, a super intelligent extraterrestrial has a plan how to prepare for these refugees, but what is her real purpose and what happens to Earth when they arrive?
In this second book Julia Koski, the Finnish hacker who decoded the first message and brought Alexa to life, has now a much bigger role. She discovers a secret that explains the mystery of Big Bang, how intelligent life emerged in the universe and who is the puppet master pulling the strings behind the scenes.
In this relentless, page-turning tale of the first contact with extraterrestrials you start to wonder – is Alexa already amongst us?
Consistent with the first book, with some improvements. The English language is still not a friend of the author and the characters and their motivations are as wooden as before. There are a few great ideas in the second half of the book, but the plot connecting them is like a bad Hollywood movie.
there is no such thing as free lunch. not even in science fiction. you get something, you must give something. brace yourself, the message reply arrived, and it might be different from what you expect.
I had to abandon this book as it was becoming painful to read. Some may be able to plough on - but it was not as interesting as the first book unfortunately.
