Two ex-cryptozoologists get pulled back in by an amazing new discovery.
Burned by a hoax that nearly ended his career in respectable science, Josh--a veterinarian and retired cryptozoologist--has been in hiding from the rest of the Bigfoot hunting community for years. Most of all, he's been in hiding from Dorian, his ex-partner and ex-boyfriend. His life is boring, but at least it’s normal.
The big break Dorian's been waiting for has finally happened--someone brought back a sasquatch body, and this is his opportunity to complete his life's work. The only person he trusts to do the autopsy and validate the find isn't speaking to him, but he's sure Josh will do this one last favour for a man he once promised to spend his entire life with.
The second chance of a lifetime.
In the wake of the discovery of one body, Josh and Dorian take to the wilderness in the hopes of bringing in a live specimen, neither sure where they stand with the other after years of being out of contact. They were in love and happy once, but so much has gone wrong between them that’s it’s hard to know if they could even be friends now. Will they find more in the great outdoors than the fabled missing link? Or will this expedition prove to be the final nail in the coffin of both their careers and their relationship?
Chasing Shadows is a stand-alone novella of approximately 26,000 words with a HEA ending. It features hot nerds making out (and making up), conspiracy theorists, cryptozoology equipment, misdemeanors, overbearing university professors, and a special guest appearance from Bigfoot.
I was given this book in exchange for a honest review so here it is. At first the story was a little hard to piece together, but I think it had to do with the characters hesitancy to come together due to their past breakup. Josh and Dorian had been a part of the Cryptozoology world. During that time they thought they had discovered evidence of a sasquatch, later finding out that the man who had dressed up as that very thing had spoken out and discredited them. The stress this caused between them literally broke the two up. Years later Dorian emailed Josh stating a body had been found and he needed it verified by Josh who Dorien trusted to do this. Josh knew it had been a mistake to leave Dorian years ago and maybe this was his chance to right that, so he decided to go. As they were examining the body, the doctor in charge of the university lab stopped them. The next day they find that the body was sent to the coroner, found it inhuman, and incinerated it. Dorian was livid. Everything he had worked for had gone up in smoke. Josh was there for him. Josh was determined to show him that to. They were going out in the forest to find a live specimen. But they also found so much more....Their lives were changing. Great story.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. Though I am not one to usually read books with creatures like The Loch Ness Monster, The Abominable Snowman, etc, this book was simply too cute to pass up. Josh, a retired crytozoologist, has settled into his veternarian career after a BigFoot hoax almost cost him everything. It HAD cost him his boyfriend and that was the loss that was the worst of it all.Dorian, his ex, a cryptozoologist himself, has never given up on his quest to prove to the world, that past hoax or not, the creature does exist. When a body shows up....a REAL Bigfoot body, Josh is pressed back into service to perform an autopsy on the remains, because no matter their differences, Dorian knows that Josh is the only one he will trust with such an important task. Through a series of mishaps, the body disappears and the two scientists are forced to go out into the wildreness in search of what they both know does exist. I loved Josh and Dorian's interactions and they were both irresistible. The book was really well written and I enjoyed it immensely.
¸.•*´¨) (¸.•´ ★ They went chasing shadows but what they found was love.
A slow start to what turned out to be an okay story. Dorian and Josh were once an item, until a hoax ended their career and their love. Now, with the discovery of a body, Dorian needs Josh's help to prove that what he did have was a Bigfoot and then he could once and for all prove that he was right in believing.
But before anything can happen, the body disappears and Josh and Dorian are once again chasing monsters. Only this time, history and fate are on their side and in the Canadian wild, the men have a second chance at love and at life. And an experience they won't soon forget.
This was a novel that hard on proving facts and easy on the loving. Sometimes this is what is needed.

As soon as I read the blurb about this one I knew I wanted to read it. It was so different than anything else out there that I've read. I'm also a huge sucker for 2nd chance romances. The two MCs are trying to prove that Sasquatch is real but instead of it feeling really silly it ended up making me think about it a bit more. They are both intelligent men; one with a PhD, and another close to having his, so there aren't the typical "crazies" that people think of when they think of people chasing after the unknown. You could definitely feel the chemistry between the two characters. There was a sex scene but mostly this book had "fade to black scenes" or there was a mention of it happening. It was refreshing to read a M/M romance that wasn't primarily focused on nothing but explicit sex scenes (but let's face it, I do love them), it had more of an actual storyline. This is the first book by Cecil Wilde that I've read but it won't be the last!
This is the first book I’ve read by Cecil Wilde and I enjoyed it. It’s pretty short (Amazon says 87 pages) so there’s not a lot of time for character development but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a satisfying story.
Josh and Dorian parted ways several years ago because Josh couldn’t stand to see what Dorian was doing to himself in his quest to find “Big Foot.” Now a body has been found and Dorian wants Josh to come and examine it. When they meet again they find that they still have feelings for each other.
This is kind of a paranormal romance but the main characters are human. I liked the writing style of this author and the story held my attention from start to finish. There are some pretty hot scenes between Josh and Dorian!
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This was a nice second chances novel. Normally I don't like this theme but I was really taken with how these two struggled with knowing whether their feelings were coming from a idealized past or genuine, viable, contemporary emotions. The POV shifted back and forth from Josh to Dorian and this made the story richer because we got to see how similar their feelings actually were. Josh has so much guilt and unresolved feelings about how he walked away from Dorian seven years ago, and these are constantly blocking him in coming to terms with their current relationship. The part of the story dealing with the Sasquatch discovery was neat in and of it self, not to mention how it affected their relationship. Enjoyable all the way around.
You rarely get a second chance at that 'once in a lifetime' love. No matter the circumstances of the breakup, Fate still had plans for Josh and Dorian. The couple joining forces again to prove that Bigfoot exists beyond their imaginations was actually a really cute background story for watching them rekindle old flames. It was angsty, sweet, and romantic. Low heat, but a good read! I will be looking for more of this authors' work
I actually really enjoyed this novella. I have to say I'm a little surprised because Sasquatch...really? It was cute though and everything wrapped up really nicely. It would have been a 5 star read but I felt like at the end it was made to seem like Josh was just following along with Dorian when it was proved at the beginning that he loved their research and adventures too.
