Jessica E. Subject is a USA Today bestselling author of science fiction and paranormal romances, bringing to life a wide variety of characters. In her stories, you could not only meet a sexy alien or a pop star tiger shifter, but also unsuspecting clones and feisty omegas. You may be transported to a dystopian world where rebels are fighting to live and love, or to an alternate reality where shifters live among humans.

When Jessica is not reading, writing, or doing dreaded housework, she likes to go to fitness class, listen to BTS, and walk her Labrador Retriever/Border Collie her family adopted from the local animal shelter.

Jessica lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband and two not-so-little children. And she loves to hear from her readers. You can find her at jessicasubject.com.

Volume six of the very awesome Portal first-chapter taster series from the Science Fiction Romance (SFR) Brigade. Ten books to taste to see which appeals to you - and there is always one or more ... lots more ... which will appeal.

Day One
Code of Misconduct by Maeve Alphin - Another from her AI series. The AI works for the same author as the other one and goes the exact same route directly to the online dating service and using the virtual world for dating. The AI has a distinctly different personality from the last one appearing in Portals Volume 3. Don't like this one's personality at all.

Day Two
Something Else Wicked by PJ Dean - Multiracial. Part of a ongoing series upto five volumes now, this taster features book 2. Post-apocalyptic alien invasion.

Alchemist's Kiss by AR DeClerck - A steampunk taster featuring a prologue and first chapter set in the American Civil War and London. Magic, steampunk, romance - and all rip-roaring fun. Archimedes - not the hero - tempts me the most, but not enough to overcome my aversion to alternate history stories.

Blood Surfer by Debra James - Superhero romance. Made me pick up a sampler and it is now in my to-be-bought-then-read pile on my Kindle. I love the heroine's superpowers.

Hurricane Moon by Alexis Glynn Latner - Exploration-settlement science fiction. The hero is dang arrogant and for good reason; his wanting a new challenge got him to apply for the colonization ship - his having a Nobel Prize and starting a philosophical/moral argument with the heroine which will be put on hold for a deep freeze sleep got him onboard. Should be interesting to see this argument to the end - especially when it has real-world applications once they get to their end destination. Really tempting.

Black Planet: Dragon's Blood by Belinda McBride - Multiracial, set in a Blade-Runner type city and in the fight club underbelly. Cyberpunk. Woman, who is unenhanced, will be the one fighting. The *potential* romantic couple were friends before the hero's wife died. Both now have deep wounds they have avoided for years. Another really tempting.

Day Three
Rebellion by Sabine Priestly - I believe the first book of this series appears in a different portal. This second book continues the characters plus adds a new group as we pick up another planet.

Peyton's Myth by SM Schmitz - Aliens which made sure to appear human may be much difference than the boring cover they are presenting. The heroine did not interest me. She is too contrary/argumentative for me, but might appeal to other readers.

The Lady is Blue by Aurora Springer - Made me pick up the sample on Amazon. I also looked at the other book of the series and another series of hers based on this. The author has amazing beginning concepts. I found the samples were too much show AND tell for my taste - first the author would made a perfectly good dialogue or action - and then repeat it with a tell. (Something like "I can't decide to hit or kiss you." he said. The woman smiled. She liked creating emotions in men and this one was emotional. - a good editor would have pointed out the last sentence isn't needed.)

Made for Her by Jessica E. Subject - Made me pick up the sample on Amazon. Interesting concept. How would you react upon meeting the clone of your dead husband?

Three of the ten made me look further. I believe that is the lowest ratio for a Portals. The SFR Brigade writes good.

Wasn't what I thought

This wasn't what I thought. It was a compilation of quick blurbs of novels. I did find one I might read later. But no full stories.:(

Just a bunch of intros to books. When I start reading I like to read start to finish and not be interrupted by having to pick a link to pick up the rest of the book.

Not what I needed to read.
