The Æther Collection

“We should never assume we know everything there is to know. There will always be hidden aspects of the world yet to be discovered, and discoveries to change the very idea of who we are and the world we live in.”

Æther. The fifth classical element. A myth. A fringe theory no scientist of the modern age would ever take seriously. That is until the dawn of the twentieth century when Professor Goldfarn finally proves its existence and the possibilities it offers.

Soon æther permeates every aspect of the scientific world, fueling new technologies the likes of which the world has never seen. But as it spreads, urban legends begin to grow about side effects no one can explain. What if æther is more than just a power source? What if it has played a part in human evolution? What if it has other properties? Ones that could be used to affect human emotion and thought?

What if it could even be a link between this life and the one that comes after?

I was not very impressed with this story. A collection of random stories, different people from different times, and the only link between them is that they have lived with the strange powers of exposure to Aether, which is never fully understood even by the time you finish reading.

To me, it was a lot of wool-gathering about a subject that is not fully understood by anyone. So it was scattered and not really much of a "story" as it was a collection of random thoughts and ideas, none of which have much bearing on anything.

If you like stories where you are left wandering through a tale, with no real direction, then this is for you. Not my cup of tea at all.

Found this on KU with mixed reviews, but I always give collections a chance, especially when it's on KU, no harm no foul and I find some great smaller authors and non mainstream that way.

I know I say that all the time, but I wish people understood how much short stories can really hook a reader in, I've become life long fans of authors like that. Even just collections of the same author, gives you the vibe you need to dive into full novels and more.

This was a bunch of different short stories only loosely connected, which is absolutely fine with me, I love the style and the ideas and will be looking to see what else is up for reading.

I do want to warn others, this is scifi horror, not horror horror, I love scifi horror so no issues here but I know others do not.

Good and bad

Not quite sure how to rate this book. Some of the stories were very interesting some were not. But most kept me interested enough to finish the book.

This was one of those I don't want to put down to adult books.
Aether is the fifth element and not much study went into it. It is used in photography, communication, and so many other aspects of life. But with not much knowledge of the element itself theres no way of knowing what else it can do.
The Aether Collection it a great batch of stories that shows the strange things aether does. This is a must read book.
