BANGKOK, MARCH 2018. The world looked on as millions of innocent lives were snuffed out in a matter of hours. Millions of men, women and children slaughtered without mercy, killed by a violent mob that attacked without reason, motive or warning.

Tom Freeman saw the aftermath. He reported on the tragedy and looked into the eyes of the sole survivor, and what he saw looking back sent him running home to the United States. Back to safety. Back to a place where the world makes sense, and the putrid stink of the dead doesn't haunt his nightmares.

He didn't run quickly enough. They're coming.

Remain indoors...

Gather supplies...

Find a weapon...

They're here.

HUNGER is the opening book of the terrifying post-apocalyptic LAST MAN STANDING series.

Keith Taylor is the true identity of the million plus selling author behind the pen names Aya Fukunishi and K A Taylor, who toiled for years writing bizarrely popular romance novels while he secretly longed to return to his true calling: explosively awesome post-apocalyptic fiction.

Keith hails from the rainy suburbs of Manchester in the north of England. He lives with his wife, Otgontsetseg, and splits his time between Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Bangkok, Thailand. He survives on a diet of meat, cheese, beer and cigarettes, and he probably shouldn't still be alive.

At first I thought it was going to be a World War Z type of deal but then it swerved, later I thought Taylor was going to serve me one of my most hated Zombpoc trope and, again, swerved.

I enjoyed the literary voice and the snappy pacing. The imagery was great too. I LOVED the side kick (mild spoiler for character traits: it's a chunky guy who's sporting a mullet and a novelty Kevin Bacon t-shirt and he's not too bright can we say written for my gaze?).

This book was a great way to end a disappointing Halloween evening, had to replace my kitchen faucet and EVERYTHING went wrong what should have been a 40 minute job turned into a 3.5 hours ordeal so it was a nice distraction to read about someone who was having a day that was legitimately worse than mine.

4.5 rounded up.

She made me forget everything but those cute little dimples that appeared whenever she smiled. Looking back, this was a pretty fucking huge mistake.
Dimples aren’t worth shit at the end of the world.

I love me some snarky humor, and the narrator of Hunger is a little fun and twisted. A reporter living in New York City, Tom had been reporting in Southeast Asia when he learned of truth behind the destruction of Bangkok. Suffering a kind of numbed-out shell shock and living in an apartment with his new girlfriend, he's woefully unprepared when the SHTF stateside.

Getting off the island is a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed this book, and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it. Lots of non-stop action, gratuitous violence, and fun, over-the-top characters. Bishop comes to mind easily, as he and Tom attempt to get off a collapsing Verrazzano Bridge.

I read the author's GR bio this morning, and discovered his earlier writing career involved smutty smut, under two different pen names. Kudos to you, Taylor! That's awesome in my book.

Book 1

I really liked this book. Great plot. Pretty flakey characters to give it a oomph. Fun read. Once I started reading I got agitated when people wanted to talk to me or heaven helped them asked me to stop reading and do something.

Looks like a all nighter. Book 2 is in my future.

The world can end in many ways.

Hunger by Keith Taylor is one book to read. Survivor's are not supermen, they are folks who make some good choices but mostly have a bit of Luck. Of course, luck can be good or bad.

This book was awesome! It is an action packed, infected-filled adventure. I love the twist Keith Taylor put into his zombie story. If you like zompoc books, this is a must-read, I can't wait to read book 2, Cordyceps. Once you pick this book up, prepare to not put it down until you're finished reading it and downloading Last Man Standing #2. It is that good!!!

A promising start to a new series where it all kicks off in Bangkok but it appears to have been contained in that part of the world. However, as with all zombie novels, it is inevitable that it will spread and so it does, in New York. Fast action and also seeing it from the point of view of the infected. Well decent.

Different

This book is a little different from other SHTF books but it's good and the momentum keeps building throughout the whole book. Good work Mr. Taylor.

I liked this book very much. What I didn't like is that it is way too short and I see that there are sequels so I can only think that this is an attempt by the author to make more money. The story was not that outstanding that I will buy the second book. Disappointed really.

It'll suck you right in

Great book, grabbed me only a few pages in. A little different then most of the same "apocalyptic" books out there. Enjoyed the writing style a lot. I think it could have been longer though I felt like it just sort of flew by but that's just my opinion. Will definitely be reading the next one.

The hero (if you can use that word to describe this character) of Keith Taylor’s book, Hunger” is not very likable.

He’s a self proclaimed junk food eater, non-ambitious slob in his mid-30’s, living with his girlfriend Kate, who he says he doesn’t love but he prefers to being alone.

In the first chapter we meet his army buddy (his buddy was a soldier, not our hero) who recounts a story of zombie infestation in Asia that pretty much wipes out a city. The government says it’s contained but this buddy (who also didn’t feel called upon to try to save his girlfriend) gets on a plane and hightails it back to the US in a panic. Despite his caution that the dreaded plague is nigh, nobody listens to him.

Then we switch focus to an 11 year old boy who has become a zombie. This is actually interesting because I’ve hardly ever read zombie fiction that comes from the zombie POV. It’s not unheard of, but rare.

Our erstwhile hero (back to him) has decided to venture out to his girlfriend’s job to see what’s up with her. Zombies are coming and the military is unprepared but they find a couple guys who are bugging out and join them. Our hero’s big mouth gets Kate, his girlfriend, killed and himself injured and left behind. Naturally, the military plans to bomb the city, as they do in most apocalyptic fiction, and the military guys are wasting no time on trying to save any but their own behinds.

As our wounded hero sprints down the street being pursued by monsters a friend appears in the form of an overweight, hillbilly house painter. This guy, a complete stranger, immediately becomes our hero’s best friend and he does more to save him than he did to save the woman he lived with.

Bros before Hos could be the name of this book. If not for the fact that I’m recovering from surgery and I invested in the complete series to read during this time, kind of “it could be worse, could be a zombie apocalypse” kind of thing, I don’t think I’d continue with the next book but…maybe the character will evolve to the point where I care enough to remember his name.

Pretty much standard zombie fare: yay for zombies! A straight forward “the world is being over-run by zombies” novel with some gratifying violence, limited plot twists and some ebb and flow of the tension (but mostly just adrenaline). The style is easy to read and economical. The POV works well in the context. Character motivation during the Z meltdown is always going to be easy, but not much in the way of internal tension or explanation as to our ‘hero’s’ remarkable survivability. Overall, good fun if you are in the market for living through the end. I will read part 2.

I got this book as part of the trilogy series for my birthday. I got around to reading it and could not put it down! The writing is really relatable down to the small details of Tom's very long day. The best is that zombies are part of this universe and what Tom experiences versus what we know about them. I enjoyed reading the few chapters from the zombies perspective, how they go from a human to monster. I have started the second book, and I can't imagine that it will take me long to go through it. With one book the author has gained a follower.

I have been looking for a good apocalyptic series and I came across this one. At first I was sceptical, but as I read through the first book, I found that this is exactly the writing style that I was looking for. I love mostly everything about this book except for the fact that it's too short. I rarely laugh at the humour in the books I have read so far, but I find the humour in this book actually funny. The plot is intense and full of action, I just wish it was longer so there can be a break in between.

I'm not usually into the fast moving zombie stuff. Usually the fast moving zombies are like a rage virus or something causing it. This book reminds more of the zombies in Left for Dead. When they don't see or here anything, they tend to stay motionless. But when they see you or hear you, they lock on immediately with everything they have.

It's not a bad start to a series. It's not a long book. Under 300 pages I think. But its a fun fast read.

A KT. SYFY. Novel (LMSB - 1)/When It's To Late It's To Latte

KT. has. penned a SYFY. Novel About a zombie apocalypse which begins as one person, but quickly expands to include millions. The minds of those not affected are the few lucky ones. The objective is to survive to escape. This is an excellent read for the genre...DEHS

A different spin on the zombie apocalypse. Initially, it was told as the main character interviewed a colleague on his experience in a terrible disaster in Asia. I'm not sure why others chose not to believe his story when it would have been fairly easy to have investigated. The mechanism of deliberately starting this apocalypse was vague (but aren't a lot of them?) but the unfolding terror and unpreparedness was well told. There was some attempt to present the "side" of a person who had turned but it was not very strong and I'm not sure where he was going with this. I am sure that I much prefer the slower, insentient zombies of movie and TV and not the terrifying ones of this story.

200th zombie apocalypse novel read

Tooth and Nails by DeLouie was my first read and favorite. This is actually the first story in 199 attempts that meets my expectation. I will finish Hunger books 2 & 3 tonight. Good job to the author! Twitter @triathletezombie

I'd probably rate it 3.5 if possible, but I'm rounding up. It's a good, bitesized zombie story though. The zombies seem to fall somewhere between shambling and sprinting, depending on the condition of the bodies and they don't just bite. Which is interesting

While full of a lot of action, this book also has a lot of pages of descriptions and back story. I found it very interesting, like listening to a master story teller. Moving right into book 2.

Not a great book… and yet I’ll read the other 2 to finish the series.

Dialogue was a bit corny, and some of the logic the characters employ is a bit nonsensical. Still, kept me entertained enough to finish it.

Book 1 took me a bit to get into simply because the prologue was lengthy but don't skip it! I know some people skip the prologue or first part of the book and immediately go to chapter 1. But definitely do NOT skip! After the prologue and first chapter it's immediately action packed!

I enjoyed this book and look forward to the remainder of the series. I could have done with less descriptive vomit scenes and don't think it would have hurt the story to spend less energy on those scenes.
