Gil Underwood thinks a trip to London will be a treat for his wife, Lady Cara, after years of sacrifice as a country vicar's wife. He could not be more wrong. His step-son Alistair is immediately tempted into bad habits by Cara's wastrel brother Trentham and Cara herself is reunited with her first love and briefly reverts to being the flighty chit of her carefree youth. Gil imagnes their return to Hanbury will solve the problem, but Sir Gideon Cutteridge follows Cara home and proceeds to scandalize the staid little Spa town. In the meantime Gil's brother C H Underwood has problems of his own. His man servant Toby is now married to the ex-slave Sabrina. A mysterious American arrives to claim that he actually owns Sabrina and wants to take her back to America. Toby feels that Underwood is not fully invested in saving Sabrina as she was instrumental in trying to poison him two years before, on the instructions of her slave-master. Toby is so frantic to save his beloved wife that he seeks the services of the female assassin, Flora Colfax, whom Underwood had failed to capture the year before. Then Cara's erstwhile lover is found stabbed and Gil is the prime suspect. Can Underwood save his brother from the gallows, Sabrina from lifelong slavery and the American from the murderous clutches of Flora?
1830. Gilbert Underwood believes that a trip to town would delight his wife Lady Cara. But events prove him wrong, and starts a chain of events that will lead to murder. Meanwhile in Hanbury Cornelius Walraven, an American, has arrived to claim his property, Toby's wife Sabrina. This forces Toby to make a rash decision which he starts to regret almost at once. Can Cadmus Underwood solve these problems. Another enjoyable mystery in this well-written series with its very likeable characters, which seems to be the last in the series.
Another good mystery with the Underwood brothers. It was quite far into the story before the murder occurred but the build up gave not only lots of suspects but a few choices for the future deceased! This one pulled together a few storylines from previous books and wrapped quite a few up. Hope that doesn't mean the series is finished because they are good period mysteries.
Such a charming story of romance, chivalry and murder! I have truly enjoyed the lives of all the characters in this series. I do hope we have not heard the last of the Underwood's there is so much more to learn of their lives. Well Done
In Prospect of Death (The Underwood Mysteries Book 7)

I read all seven books an I enjoyed each one. I am looking forward to reading more books written by the author. I would recommend the Underwood Mysteries to everyone
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and its characters. Some were in each book, others appeared from time to time. I understand that a series has to end, but I will miss these stories.
The last book in the Underwood brothers series is as delightful as all the others. Having multiple plot lines really upped the mysteries. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series.
