The job she loves or the man she loves?

With a high powered job in public relations for an NHL franchise, Eloise Robertson is well acquainted with the arrogant and cocky bad-boys of hockey. She's all business.

And not one shred of monkey business.

So of course she isn't interested in team owner Sheehan Murphy's expensive new center, Cole Fiorino. Through a chance encounter over addictive white carbohydrates, Cole worms his way underneath El's icy façade. Like a tick with six pack abs.

But El has bigger issues when local small business owners want to thwart Murphy's efforts to open a high-end whiskey bar attached to the arena. Cole Fiorino and his sexy smile and equally sexy demands will have to wait.

Or, will they?

After 26 years in Corporate leadership at a Fortune 500, I discovered people within the organization lacked integrity. I’d always known deep in my soul that I was trying to fit a square peg in to a round hole since I’m the typical creative type. I miss my staff but I don’t miss the corporate world. It’s been said that the Universe will let you know if something isn’t right for you. The first time, it will hit you with a pebble. Then a brick. Then a boulder. Let’s just say that I got flattened. When my fifteen pound toy dog, Nigel, was threatened, I knew it was time to say goodbye.
It’s true.
Here’s what I found within the first thirty days of being free. Writing stories from my heart that readers love means more to me than working myself in to an early grave for people who only care about their bottom line.
My heart has never been more full and my soul has never been more satisfied.
I’ve never worked so hard in my life but it doesn’t even feel like work. It’s worth it. All of it. Because it’s about the joy that’s found within the journey. The highs and the lows because I get to write stories for all of you.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading, enjoying and recommending the stories that I write. When you share my work with others, nothing is more rewarding. Your word of mouth is my very best friend … that, and your reviews. There is nothing more important to me than all of you.
I love to hear from my readers and answer all communications personally. You can find me at:

Blurb:
She's hell on heels. From the moment we met over powdered sugar, I yearned to melt the icicles dripping from her wool tailored tweed. I have to have her and I always get what I want. Even if it means giving up my playboy ways.

I'm the most badass center the NHL has ever seen and my plus/minus ratio is inspiring. Almost as impressive as my chiseled body and ahem...other huge assets. I can fire a shot from any angle that will make the opposing goalie scream for his mother. When it comes to pucks and f*cks, I'll always light the red light.

But my desire for Eloise puts my Hall of Fame career on the line. That and her secrets. The ones I never wanted to know. I'm a rich, famous hockey player--she's a front office exec. On paper we don't fit. But there's one place where we fit. Like a glove.

I have a stellar career and other obligations so I know I shouldn't get involved with her. It's too perilous. I can't fall...risk losing my heart. But for the first time, I woman sees me. The real me. Not some millionaire playboy that leaves panting women stranded in the stands.

But Eloise has been hiding something from me.She has a secret that threatens to destroy us both. And so this soaring NHL superstar is actually worried. Because if she lets it see the light of day,we're over.

I don't often write review, I leave them to the more talented friends in Goodreads but this time I couldn't stop myself.

I am a proud new age feminist, not the man bashing kind but the kind who knows women must have equal rights and opportunites in the world. The kind who fights against the discrimination women face in the workplace and other areas of society. A woman who is educated, confident, and wants to help other women break free from the meek, polite, and apologetic ways women have been taught by our society.

Now you can still be a feminist and appreciate a good, smutty love story. This was not one of those. I am disappointed with myself for not living up to my feminist ideals by reading this book. I wish I could take it back and unread it.

So many cliches. A young women raped who sees her attacker later in life (who may have ruined her chance of fertility). A forbidden romance that happens against the odds within the workplace (always a bad idea). Spurned ex lovers and mean businessmen.

The way this author portrayed the main character was extremely disappointing. She writes a lot of powerful words about The female lead character, but her actions show that she is unwilling to stand up against misogyny and what is right for herself or for women in general.

She is blatantly sexually harassed in the workplace by not only her boss but also by a subordinate ex boyfriend. She lets it go. She sees her attacker who raped her years prior, Who is the reason she may not be able to have a baby) she lets it go. She has the rare opportunity to represent women at the C suite level as a women in business, in the world of hockey no less. She gives it up "for her man". Shameful.

If these are the values we are teaching women of today as romantic and shows the choices they have to deal with these types of real issues, then no wonder women continue to hit the glass ceiling, are unwilling to report rape. Rape is viewed by others from the standpoint of "Don't send my kid to jail he will miss Sunday dinners and eating a big steak for a few years-not fair" and individuals in positions of power continue to get away with unprofessional conduct in the workplace.

The only reason I finished the book was my hope that, through my incredulity and frustration, she would finally stand up for her self, set an example and be a heroine against the typical misogyny within these poorly written pages.

It is shameful how this author portrayed a women's choices and their impact. This is the antithesis of what I am teaching my daughter. Anyways don't waste your time.

Good book. As most Colleen Charles books usually are. Nice and steamy and just the right amount of romance, real feelings and naturally hunky men.

My only complaints about this book were El's back story from high school. Don't have an issue with the main chick having a violent or sexually abusive past, but mostly it didn't ring as authentic once the entire story was told. And the appearance of said high school boyfriend who raped her being Cole's bff? Yeah, that was a bit far fetched but I still didn't let it stop me. What really bugged me was her reaction to him after. I understand it's been ten or so years but to not actually be angry or rail at the guy for everything after he abused her when you finally have the chance?! Yeesh. And toss in the fact you have Cole beat his ass for it (superhero moment. Aw), but then when confronted by El they learn oh the poor guy was dealing with divorcing parents and learning he'd have to move immediately which apparently excuses his recklessness of getting shitfaced and abusing her horribly, leaving her pregnant, forced to have an abortion, keep the entre horrid event from her family, and possibly unable to have future children??? Oh the kicker was he didn't even remember her or that night!!! It sounded awful what she experienced and it was just sort of brushed aside toward the end like "oh I'm trying to move on and not let it get me down. So what if the guy who fucked me up and nearly derailed my life didn't remember what he did to me! Let me treat him normally and show him some mercy now because I'm in love with his friend??" I'm probably overreacting to that but that's a bit how it felt.

Having Cole believe her without question that his friend was the one who did that to her when she told him also suspended belief a bit for me. Any good friend, regardless of how shitty their actual friends are or things they've done albeit not to their knowledge would at least be like "are you sure? He might not be the same guy you're thinking of." Something along those lines. But nope! He just swallows it down and accepted it entirely which made his whole need for loyalty sound lame in hindsight since he didn't even question that his supposed good friend whom he'd known for years had did something so horrible to a girl he was seeing, who he was still getting to know.

And last but not least, the ending. It felt rushed! I can overlook those issues I explained above easily enough since they don't really begin to eat at my brain until I've fully digested the entire book. But! It jumps from one scene where I'm like oh he's proposing! To her turning down the job offer to accept his, which I'm supposed to assume wasn't a marriage offer, right??? And then let's not forget no romantic "I love you" reveals at all, which is a major No-No for a romance writer, come on! We love that part! And then oh months later they're together...and he's imagining his forever after with her and then cut scene. No proposal. No fluffy or feels worthy ILY moment. Nada. No epilogue!

Might have been nice to focus a bit more on the developing relationship between Cole and Eloise tho instead of the business of her job. After a bit it became tedious and I felt cheated when it explained all the dates they'd had after she gave him another chance....yeah just don't share all the fun chemistry making good stuff.

Cole was a charmer tho and Kylie her PA was adorable.

Otherwise yeah good read, not as good as her other books for sure by still hits the spot decently enough if you don't get hung up on the ending feeling like there was at least a chapter or two worth left to finish it off properly. That's my biggest pet peeve and sadly in that regard the book left a gaping disappointed hole in my brain once I finished.

This was an enjoyable book! I liked the two main characters and most of their interactions. Eloise was an interesting character; she was self sufficient and pretty intelligent. She had something happen to her in the past and that clouded her judgement for how to keep herself safe. Cole was also interesting because he wasn't like the typical sports jock in sports romance books. The chemistry between the two leads was enjoyable! In some ways, I didn't quite understand how the two were still together, mostly due to some misunderstandings.

I both liked and disliked the descriptions of women. In Eloise's case, it was great! A career woman, a woman working in a male-dominated field, a woman dealing with the sexist comments from men (honestly, as soon as that happens, report it to HR immediately). And on the flip side, calling women who are open about their sexuality bimbos or floozies as though having sex is some negative thing for women who aren't married. The flip/flopping came off as hypocritical.

He Shoots, He Scores

This is my first book by Colleen Charles. It has all the elements I love. Opposites attract, humor and it is very steamy. Cole Fiorino has all the right stuff. He is a rich NHL hockey player with killer slapshots and abs to match. His usual fare of women have been limited to the groupie Barbies that hang off the boards on the ice rink. Cole was bored and needed a change in his life. That change came by the name of Eloise. Who knew you could meet your one and only fighting over a box of donuts.

Eloise is a PR executive for the Rochester Riots and is definitely out of Cole's league. She works for the same franchise that Cole plays for. Eloise struggles to make any relationship commitments due to a devastating event that happened to her years before.

I enjoyed watching them struggle through together to finally realize they were meant for each other. I look forward to reading more stories from Colleen Charles in the future.

I've got to be honest, I am not normally a sports romance kind of gal. However, that being said, this book won me over. I had figured that there would be a whole lot of sports analogies that I wouldn't understand and that frankly, the language towards women and everything in general would be crass. This wasn't the case at all. I was pleasantly surprised about the fact that the female main character wasn't a typical bimbo. She is smart as a whip intelligent, professional in everything that she did, empathetic to others around her, even those that honestly did not deserve it. El is a fantastic character. I really enjoyed her a lot. She had a traumatic experience growing up, but she didn't let it define her. She used it to her advantage and built herself back up.

I love this a lot because the fact is that you can decide whether you're going to allow something to make you a victim and keep that mentality where it keeps you bogged down in life or you can say, okay, it happened, I am not going to let it define who I am. I love that she knows exactly what she wants, and she was willing to put herself out there, especially at the expense of her own character and reputation. She is all class. And, I have to say, she is one of my new favorite main characters because of the fact that she is so classy. She is well written and thought out. She has plenty of dimension and relatable flaws. I just really enjoyed her a lot. And I especially love how she handled Ryder. If it was me, he would've been singing soprano because I would've smacked him in his happy place. However, she handled him with class.

Cole was a surprise in himself. Yes, partly an a typical jock. But was raised well enough by his mama that he knows how to respect and treat women. He never once pushed El into doing anything she wasn't comfortable with. He allowed her to come to him on her own terms. The only thing I really didn't like about him was the fact that he kind of gave me whip lash back and forth on what he was going to do about being with El. However, that being said, he did man up and do the right thing for them both. You could definitely tell how much he cared about her and that he had let his fear stop him and he eventually learned and then all was well. I loved how protective of her he was, even when it irritated her. I get this because my husband is the same way. You just got to accept it for the fact that he cares enough about you to want to take care of you. Nothing wrong with that.

I have seen where this book didn't receive some good reviews because of some point of views such as 'why did El have to give up her career? Why couldn't she have her career and her man?' I can understand how it might look that way, but the truth of the matter is that El didn't have to give up her career. She did so because 1.) she realized that she and Cole weren't going to have a whole lot of time together. 2.) She wanted to have a family with Cole and again, you have to have time together to have that happen. 3.) She chose to give up her career. It does state in the book that she realized that it wasn't in her heart anymore the way that it had been before Cole came along. Sometimes love changes a person. In their views, and how they envision things. El is very happy once she switches jobs and you can really see that in this book. Especially in the prologue. El didn't give up anything. She gained a whole lot. Now she has everything that she has ever wanted. It just looks different than the way that she had originally thought it would.

This book has definitely changed the way that I see sports romances. In fact, it has changed my opinion so much that I am currently reading another of this author's books. I have really come to enjoy this team and the family that they are.

Yes, I would definitely recommend this book.

Another amazing hockey romance form Colleen Charles!! I seriously can’t get enough of her books and hockey isn’t even a sport I follow regularly. I love the teams she has created in her books though and the characters are amazing. Cole and Eloise are spectacular together!! I loved that this was kind of a workplace romance too since Eloise is pretty high up in the offices of the Riot hockey team.

Cole is the newest player on the team. He’s been playing for years so he’s outgrown the player ways of rookies. Just in time to meet Eloise. They have the sweetest meet cute involving powdered donuts that continues to play a part through the course of the story. It was such a small detail that was really played well and I absolutely loved it!!

Eloise has sort of an ice queen reputation but it was sort of necessary to make it in a man’s world. She’s not frigid but she tries to keep away from office romances and no man she’s meet recently stirs any emotions for her. She also has a pretty heart breaking experience from her past that plays a part in how she approaches relationship and will also play a huge role how things develop with Cole.

Add in the drama of an egotistical boss who’s decided to expand into whiskey production to the uproar of the surrounding neighborhood. One of those neighbors is a friend of Cole’s so it makes it more personal. I love how this all played out and showed what a bada** business woman Eloise is. The story ending to this book was different than I expected but I loved it! Cole’s idea for their future was beautiful and I can’t wait to see this couple in future associated books to see how everything plays out for this terrific couple.

'The Slot' by Colleen Charles is the first book in her new series Rochester Riot and tells the story of Eloise Robertson, who works PR for the Rochester Riots, a pro hockey team, and Cole Fiornio, the new center for the team. Eloise has been working in a male dominated field for a few years and doing very well. She enjoys her job except for the sexual harassment she has to deal with. Luckily, she can indulge in her secret vice, powdered donuts, to brighten her day. On the way home from work she stops at the corner store and reaches for the last packet but another hand grabs them at the same time.

Cole realizes that the gorgeous brunette has his donuts. He suggested they play Rochambeau to decide who gets the donuts. He won but gave the packet to her. After sharing with him he jumped into a car without them exchanging information. Imagine their surprise when they run into each other at work a few days later.

Eloise couldn't believe donut guy was the new player for the team. Too bad she does not go out with players. She is very careful about who she dates ever since a horrific experience she had with her high school boyfriend, Trevor. But Cole is determined to sway her decision.

Ms. Charles has written a stellar kick off to her new series. The interactions
between Eloise and Cole are sweet and steamy. Eloise's assistant, Kylie, gave some lightness to the story. I like how Cole handled Eloise's assault as a teenager and didn't just dismiss her feelings. I enjoyed this book and the journey they had to their HEA. I can't wait for the next one in the series.

Eloise and Cole's story is a cute with some sexy in there too. Eloise is a driven, independent career woman working as the Director of Communications and Community Relations for the Rochester Riot. Cole is the Riot's new forward and purported to be excellent at it (which is why the big bucks were shelled out to get him on the team).

After a disastrous date with Ryder, another employee of the Riot in the marketing department, Eloise is more sure than ever that she doesn't need or want a man in her life. If one were to come along, though, he would need to be a gentleman. In other words, no jocks.

Cole, while not exactly being the sports hotshot playboy, is a professional athlete. After his clandestine meeting with Eloise over powdered doughnuts, he's hooked. She's the type of intelligent, strong woman he can see himself with. Despite what Eloise may think, he's looking for the woman he'll marry and have children with. He wants a family.

Eloise and Cole run into trouble particularly when Eloise reveals that a traumatic event from high school might make it impossible for her to bear a child. Having just ran into the man she never wanted to see again and learning of Cole's desire for a family, Eloise wants to get it out in the open. Upon sharing her painful secret, Cole reacts poorly to say the very least and is out the door lickety split. Thankfully, he comes to his senses. Further problems arise when their jobs are considered. Eloise has worked so hard for her career and Cole travels frequently and could be traded to another team. How could she make a relationship with a man in that situation work? Can she really let her dreams go for a man?

This book is HEA with no cliffhanger. Having very much enjoyed it, I immediately went on to read The Crease, which features Elouise's spirted assistant, Kylie, and Cole's teammate and goalie for the Riot, Shredder.

What I find super interesting is that Ryder, who is a complete misogynistic jerk in this book, has his own book as book three of this series, The Rebound. After reading this book, I feel like Colleen Charles will have some major redeeming to do when his story comes around.

This was an interesting story. It was more of serious than a fun story, which is more what I was expecting. In this story we meet El who heads the PR department of the Riot hockey team. The owner is a HUGE jerk and everyone knows it. He wants to open a bar in the stadium and thats causes issues with local businessed around the stadium.

Cole is a new player on the team. He joins the team and is excited because one of his friends owns a bar and he can hang out with him. He meets El and falls hard. El had something really awful happen to her as a teen and it happened with this guy she had crushed on. He kinda destroyed her life with this one act and it was not consensual. This has colored her life.

I don't want to spoil too much about this story but Cole's friend and the guy that hurt El are connected and when she confessestp Cole whose supposed to be in love with her, his reaction is not what I expected. Then it gets even worse. It ruined the book for me. I felt the men in this book were portrayed as huge jerks and El in the story sorta puts up with them while not really respecting them. When Cole treats her so bad it colored how I felt about this story.

I did like El and I felt she was brave and I loved how she doesn't take Cole's reaction, but I also felt she forgave him a bit too easily. That said I could not stop reading this story as I wanted to know how it all ended. I did enjoy the big twist in the storyline.

Wow! So good!

Love a great hockey story riddled with love. This did not disappoint. Cole is a new player here for the Rochester Riot and he's got numbers that make him the best Center in the League. Eloise works in the Head Office doing PR.

After having a rough day Eloise leaves the office and heads to the corner store to get her weakness, a cellophane wrapped packet of powdered donuts and a soda. When she sees the last packet of donuts and reaches for it at the same time as an absolutely gorgeous man wearing Aviator glasses grabs for it, she drops her hand from it. When he surprises her with a quick game of rock, paper, scissors for it. She agrees and even though he won, he gave them to her. So she shared. When he left, he called her the pretty donut lady and she figured she'd never see him again.

They were both surprised when they ran into each other at the team office. They both thought about the other since their run in. Now Cole could get to know her. She's not at all like the other women he has known before. She's beautiful, smart, and has a killer job. Someone he would really like to get to get to know better.

Eloise is very careful with who she dates. She had a horrible experience when she was 16, and can't help but remember the hurt and devastation she felt after it. Why do all men act like you owe them sex after a simple date? Can Cole be different?

I absolutely loved this story, and Eloise's assistant was hilarious. I am so ready to read more into these players. Great start to the series Colleen Charles. Enjoy

As a huge hockey fan I have to say that I loved this book Colleen Charles really knows her stuff when it comes to writing hockey romance. Cole is the new center for the Rochester Riot and as one of the NHL'S cockiest bad boys he was quite an expensive acquisition for the team. Eloise heads the PR dept for the Riot hockey team who unfortunately have a jerk for an owner and everybody knows it. They have a great meet/cute over powdered donuts from the corner store which they rock, paper, scissor to see who gets the last pack of donuts. When Cole wins he gives Eloise the donuts which she shares with him and when they parted ways he said goodbye beautiful donut lady. Imagine their surprise when they see each other in the team office as they have both been thinking about the other since they bumped into each other. Cole wants to get to know Eloise better she's not like the usual women she's gorgeous, smart and has a great job. Eloise though is very careful about who she dates after a terrible experience when she was only a teenager devastated her. Could Cole possibly be different than every other man when it comes to expectations? You really need to read this engaging story to see what happens. I would recommend reading this book.

This was a great read! I am all for a hockey romance, but this one is not your typical "boy meets girl and sweeps her off her feet" love story. Eloise, El for short, is a strong and independent woman who is taking the PR side of the world of hockey by storm. Cole is a new player for the Rochester Riot who has a name and reputation to be held. They have a chance meeting over donuts and then then next day realize who the other one really is. Their story has ups and downs, but the author does a great job of making it realistic and relatable. El has had some bad encounters with guys in the past and Cole has insecurities that he has to overcome in order for their relationship to work. In the end, these two and their story captured my heart!

I do also very much appreciate that Colleen Charles did not shy away from a sensitive topic that is either not talked about often enough or is sugar coated and glossed over. There is a trigger warning in the front of the book for those who may need it. Colleen does a great job of not being too brash or harsh when writing this particular scene but is also very realistic.

To say that I love hockey romance books is an understatement because I can't think of one single hockey romance that I didn't enjoy and The Slot is no exception.
Eloise works in the front office of the Rochester Riot hockey team and has a chance encounter with a gorgeous stranger over a package of powdered sugar donuts! She soon discovers that the gorgeous stranger, Cole, is the latest player traded to her hockey team.

I love that Eloise and Cole didn't just suddenly fall in love and then there were issues that tore them apart. They needed those issues to come up before they really started things up so that they could deal with them as they come along. And there were issues! Most of them were only in their own heads, so I loved that Eloise had her friend Kylie to bounce her thoughts off of and that Cole had his friend/teammate Shred to help him see things more clearly.

I am so looking forward to reading book 2 in the series and get to know Kylie and Shred even better!

Liked the story for the most part but...

3 stars even though i had the following issues with it.

Had a hard time with time progression in this book. You get that days are passing, but there isn't really anything to tell us it's happening if that makes sense. And how much time? Who knows.

Also had a hard time with, scene changes?, I guess. One minute she's at home on the phones, then next sentence she's in the office the next day. It happens quite a bit.

I didn't really feel the love for our characters - that may be part of the time progression issues in the book. Pretty sure he asks her to marry him before they've said I love you, that doesn't happen until a chapter or two later.

I also hate when you get to the end of the book, finished the epilogue and then see a link to get an exclusive scene or a bonus epilogue - seriously just put that in the book. It was written for the book, what's the point of not just adding? So annoying.

Steamy Hockey Romance With A Serious Message

This is my first read by Colleen Charles and it was a good one. It’s a well written sports/forbidden workplace romance with relatable characters. I loved Cole and Eloise’s meet cute over powdered donuts. Cole and El very much have a push-pull dynamic going which I feel is a more realistic approach to romance writing than many others in this genre - for example Cole has his own insecurities leading him to make more than one mistake while pursing El. While reading this book, I could relate to both Cole and El’s actions throughout the framework of the plot. I don’t want to give the plot away, but must give trigger warnings for workplace sexual harassment and discussions about rape. I do recommend this book and will read more of this series in the future.

This book has been re-written and updated. I didn't read the original, and haven't read any other books in this series, so I pretty much started from scratch with this one. It was darker than I expected - not a criticism, just a comment. It was so emotional to read about El's past; I had a very similar experience, minus that extra "gift" that Trevor gave her. And then to find out how Cole is connected to her history, it was so much for her to deal with. And all this at the same time as the sexual harassment from her boss and underling, plus the idiot she went out with one time. I really loved reading their story. It was a long and bumpy road for them. I admire El for all that she deals with, truly grace under fire. And admire Cole for standing up for her. Absolutely loved this read by Colleen Charles! I love a good sports romance and this Hockey series didn’t disappoint. The Slot was SUCH a good opener to the Rochester Riot series.

Eloise was always careful about who she dated after a previous bad experience, but after a chance meeting with a stranger at the convenience store over a pack of doughnuts (her guilty pleasure) suddenly things change. The stranger is suddenly no longer a stranger but Cole, the new Center for the Rochester Riot.

This story kept me on my toes with the ups, downs, happiness, and heartbreak. Not to mention the chemistry between the two main characters 🔥! I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t wait to read about other characters hinted at this this book!

CW: Sexual assault described on page.

This book was a bit underwhelming to begin with then started to piss me off with all the shit Eloise had to deal with thanks to her boss (which I know the author said she wanted to write a hard book but this one went to far I felt) and other people. Like her ex making all those comments when she was his boss? He should have faced some sort of punishment even if she was a woman.

But all that paled in comparison to the teenage ex. Trey/Trevor was an ass from the start. In school he did something unforgivable to her. When he saw her again, he was an ass. When he was confronted about WHAT he did to her, he went above and beyond being an asshole. Yet she forgave him and he was even invited to personal stuff. That's when this book went from an "okay, it gets three stars" to "f this, it's getting two."

This is a story about Eloise and Cole. He's a star hockey player with old fashioned values, transferred to the Riot to help win games, she’s in charge of community relations for the team, a rising star with a front office position in a male dominated business. They meet while getting powered sugar donuts and then again at the arena, they have this instant connection and chemistry, but the nightmare in her past keeps her on guard. He slowly tries to earn her trust, but a blast from her past sidelines his progress.
I enjoyed the book, but didn’t like the ending, as I felt it was rushed and abrupt, it felt like there should have been much more to it.

Solid Hockey Romance Up Until The End

Eloise is a star community relations manager for the Riot NHL team and Cole is their brand new star player. They meet outside of work in a cute encounter and have some good ups and downs in their relationship. This book touches on topics of sexual assault and indirectly on how teenagers are influenced by the ideals that porn portrays. Lots of discussions of sex and consequences but not very much spice actually in the book. I appreciated the conflicts Cole and Eloise had to work out but I honestly kinda hated the ending. I understand the sentiment and it was sweet but it still disappointed me a bit. Overall it was a pleasant read but it seemed a little rushed and left me wishing for a bit different ending.

Cole and Eloise’s story is one with the female executive and male star hockey player. The story follows the ups and downs of their slow burn but passionate relationship. It also deals with the issue of harassment at work.

There are some interesting twists in the story and the author leaves enough clues enabling us to see where the drama is going to happen. There is not a lot of hockey - one game and then references to games.

THE SLOT is also the first in the series so we meet a number of secondary characters that may be important later. One thing I wonder with the upcoming books is if there will soon be a new owner for the Riot.

Take a successful, ambitious, beautiful woman and a mediocre man who has the confidence of the world in his tiny, underused brain and what you get is a misogynistic, desperately in need to be erased from existence "romance".

Actually, this book should be read by every woman who has ever dated men as a manual in what to NOT accept.

This man didn't respect her job but she needed to respect his.
He wanted to change her and her priorities which should include taking care of him, having his baby and quitting her job to be exactly like his momma (and I assume raise him along with his spawn).

i'm gonna end this glowing - but very true- review here because if I keep thinking of it I'll wanna barf.

After reading The Crease I knew I wanted to read the first book in the series. In book one we get Eloise and Cole's story. It was impossible not to fall head over heels for Cole. Eloise works for the Rochester Riot hockey team and they have just signed a major player in Cole Fiorino. The chemistry between them was immediate and undeniable. Cole is smitten with his PDL (pretty doughnut lady) but they face obstacles that threaten to keep them apart. A traumatic even from El's past returns to further pull them apart. Can Cole and Eloise overcome in order to finally get their HEA? 5 stars!

My Thoughts...

This is the first book I have read from Colleen Charles and I must say, I enjoyed the book but definitely felt like it was rushed at many points of the story and I wanted to feel more from the main characters and their relationship.

I unfortunately didn't fall in love with them, however I did love El and everything she has been through and how strong she is.

Her character was well rounded and level headed and head strong especially being in a position of power.

Do I recommend the book.... yes and hopefully you fall in love with Cole and Eloise.

Before I read this book, I would never have thought that hockey and romance went together. But Colleen Charles continues to surprise me. This, Cole and Eloise’s story, is the first book in the Rochester Riot Series. Cole and Eloise couldn’t be more different, except for the fact that they both love powdered donuts. Still, there is something undeniable between the two of them, but will it be enough to overcome work difficulties, and a haunting past? Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

Excellent contemporary hockey romance. Eloise is head of the PR with the Riots hockey team. Her wealthy boss expects everyone even the community to bow down to him. Cole is a recent trade to the team and takes notice of the classy woman in a suit. There’s a lot of entertainment and angst in the book but both the characters and story line are well developed into an interesting read. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Charles, especially in this series.

PR Genius meets the Beantown Bard

Eloise is in charge of PR for the local hockey team, the Riot. Cole is the star Center who just came on the team. Both have high standards for the one who would be their other half, and find that they have met their perfect match! Cole is perhaps the perfect guy, chivalrous but respectful of her abilities...unlike their boss and other dept. directors for the Riot. I also really liked Kylie, Eloise's vivacious assistant, and am glad she gets her own story in the next book!

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Eloise and Cole. He's a star hockey player transferred to the Riot to help win games. Eloise, or El, is in charge of community relations for the team. They meet while getting powered sugar donuts. Then again at the areana. They have and instant connection but she has a past nightmare that keeps her on guard. Slowly Cole tries to earn her trust but a blast from her past night sideline his progress. Great HEA in the works.
