Gothic

This collection is out of my uncomfortable genre. It is unusual to me but very interesting. There is a great amount of suspense Nd a smattering and subtleness of romance. It is enough for me purchase Volume 2.

3.5 stars really

3 well written stories, with interesting mysteries but the characters were all vaguely similar, especially the Heroes of each one: distinctly unlikeable. I can’t imagine how any of the young women would have fallen for them.

Timeless gothics

All three were fine stories, however, my favorite was the third one in the set. It just seemed to have more substance to it, and I enjoyed it a lot.

Gothic romances in a historical Southern setting. I got this volume of three when it was free. I had already read the first, "Bride of a Stranger", but "Stranger at Plantation Inn" and "The Secret of Mirror House" were new to me. I like Jennifer Blake's gothic romance writing style, and find it reminiscent of Victoria Holt and others I read in my teens. These books had all the spooky elements and the enigmatic, flawed hero, as expected. And, as true gothics, they were clean romances. The only detraction for me is that they were set in the South, which is not a favorite setting for me. As gothics, they were somewhat dark, and not uplifting, but that's to be expected.
