Second of the Winterset Coven

Rate this book
Dawn Reed is a small town girl looking for a big adventure. She’s been feeling stagnant for a while, but there is a new coven in town and the Second to the king has captured her heart. Garret has been patiently building a slow friendship, but when he cuts her off, Dawn is bereft. Not only is she losing the man she’s falling head-over-heels for, she’s losing her friends in the coven as well. But nothing is what it seems with vampires, and Garret is hiding some monstrous secrets while trying to protect her. And the closer she gets to them, and to him, the more uncertain her survival becomes.

Garret Westergaard has done this before. He’s loved hard and lost, and now the sweet human beauty, Dawn, feels like she could be his everything. Too bad he’s being haunted and hunted by ghosts from his past, because one night of unfortunate events puts her right in the middle of a brewing coven war. When keeping his distance doesn’t work, he’ll have to toe the line between man and monster to keep her safe.

I don't like this series.

I like this author's books, I choose them when I want something short and funny, but nothing too complicated. Like a bag of chips, you eat them because they make you happy, not because you are hungry.
I didn't really like the world that was created here and I can't find any interesting characters.

Well, this series I don't like, it's definitely not her best. She's good, so I won't give up on her, but I will give up on these.

Confession: I’m a shifter lover!! Its been way too long since I caught up with this author’s work. Thankfully, I was able to grab a couple this past weekend. I’m determined to pick up where I left off and complete the rest of the author’s finished works.

T.S. Joyce is one of the few authors that I’ve read from the beginning of her career and plan to read everything she publishes. Although this particular series isn’t may absolute favorite, she’s one of my favorites.

In this installment, Dawn is a vampire feeder who developed feelings for the Vampire second in command. When someone from Garrett’s past comes to town to get his attention, Dawn gets caught in the middle of an age old vampire battle.

For the most part. I enjoyed this read. It was quick, light, and entertaining. I enjoyed getting to know Dawn and Garrett’s history. There was so much more to them than I expected.
I had a couple issues though. I wanted more romance between the main characters. The history was entertaining, but took away from their connection, IMO. Also, I love babies in books. To mention the possibility of having kids, but not delivering didn’t work for me.

ANOTHER FABULOUSLY FANG-TASTIC STORY!!!
Title: Second of the Asheville Coven
Series: Winterset Coven
Author: T S Joyce
Designation: Book Two of Series, Standalone Vampire Romance Novella, NO Cliffhanger
Reading Platform: Kindle Unlimited
My Rating: FivE Fabulously Fang-tastic Stars*****
I love sexy shifters, adore handsome vampires and simply can't resist dreamy romance but put them all together in one story and I'm in heaven! And that's exactly what T S Joyce has done with Second of the Asheville Coven, the second riveting release in the Winterset Coven series! It has everything you need for a great read. Like what, you ask? How about heart-stopping danger, heart-pounding action, spine-tingling suspense, agonizing heartbreak, heated attraction, fiery passion, dreamy romance and steamy sex! Well, you're in luck because it's all included...total one stop shopping! I've been a T S Joyce fan for years and literally devour everything she writes. I know before I read the first page of one of her stories, I'm guaranteed a fabulous adventure. Her books are always imaginative, original, well crafted and well edited and Second of the Asheville Coven is no exception. I was thrilled when Joyce released the first story of this series, King of the Winterset Coven, proving yet again she always listens to her readers. Like so many other fans, I fell in love with Aric Teague, King of the newly relocated Winterset Coven, and his vampire brothers when they were first introduced in Joyce's Harper's Mountains Series. We clamored to know more about the group of sexy vampires. Well, we asked and she answered! And then answered again with the second book of the series, Second of the Winterset Coven, featuring Garret Westergaard, the coven's second in command, when we pleaded for more. I adored the first book, but I love the second even more, and that's because it has more action, more suspense, more emotion, more heartbreak, more passion, more romance, more sex and well... more everything! Second of the Asheville Coven is a delightfully entertaining novella with a beautifully written his and her dual third person perspective featuring sexy eleven-hundred-year-old former Viking vampire Garret Westergaard and beautiful, sweet, kindhearted Dawn Reed as the two protagonists. Joyce does a fabulous job of including ample backstory in the book so it most definitely can be read as a standalone. However, I highly recommend also reading the first book of the series, King of the Winterset Coven. It's one decision I'm sure you'll never regret. If you're looking for a fast paced story with a seductive vampire hero and a sweet, kind and loyal human heroine, then this is most definitely the book for you. I laughed and I cried, but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained! No spoilers from me but I will say this....Ancient tech savvy Viking vampire who has searched for centuries for the reincarnation of his beloved soulmate but finds so much more, only to risk losing her to an old enemy-check! Beautiful, kind-hearted young woman who feels like she's never really belonged anywhere, but becomes a feeder for the coven to be near the vampire she loves-check! A malevolent ancient enemy out for revenge and determined to destroy his creation-check! An unexpected ghost from the past who may be able to help-check! A surprising confession of love that will change two lives forever-check! Heartbreaking angst, undeniable attraction, sizzling passion and heartwarming romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
When reviewing a rating a book, there are several questions I always ask myself. First, did I like the story? No, I LOVED it! T S Joyce never fails to deliver a well-crafted read but it's so much more. Joyce is an exceptionally gifted storyteller with an extraordinary imagination who knows exactly how to draw her readers into the story. She grabs our attention, captures our hearts, tugs on our heartstrings and makes us beg for more! I've been a fan since her first release and wait anxiously for each new book. Am I passionate about Joyce and her books? Yes, I am, but that's because, with every story she writes, she gives her readers a small piece of herself. And that's a really big deal, at least it is for me. Second, would I recommend this book? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain some dreamy love scenes. Third, will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Oh lawd, yes! Completely! I was glued to my chair, completely enthralled, white-knuckling my ereader with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest. Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read! Bring on Book Three! I don't know how Joyce could ever surpass Garret's story but I'm sure she'll find a way!

I felt bad for the h and thought she was way too forgiving. The only thing that helped me with this is that he didn't use another feeder during separation.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Garret was once a Viking warrior, proud, powerful and devoted to his clan and his love. Everything changed the moment an evil vampire became his maker turning him into the creature he is now and destroying everything Garret loved, including the love of his life. Throughout the long years he has been haunted by the ghost of his love, Torunn. His devotion to his King, Aric after the epic battle that killed their crazed Queen and the battle with the Bloodrunners that had them leaving their territory, is unshakable. In this modern age, Garret is a bit lost but functioning as best he can. These days instead of going out among the humans for his prey, the prey lines up to come to the members of his coven as “feeders”. Young woman who for whatever odd reason, sex, danger, or living their own vampire fantasies, seem quite willing to line up at their headquarters and offer their blood for the taking. There is one woman among them who has become Garret’s personal “feeder”. She’s not like the others, her reasons for being there have nothing to do with hero worship. Dawn reminds him so strongly of his lost love, Torunn. As Garret believes strongly in reincarnation, he believes that Dawn is his soulmate brought back to him. Dawn and Garret have become friends, and each is attracted to the other although nothing has been acted upon.

Threats are made toward Dawn from Garret’s maker, he pushes her away and refuses to see her again. Dawn is devastated as she is in love with the stubborn vampire. When the threats toward Dawn become physical, she returns to the coven house under Garret’s protection. He will not lose his soulmate again, and if it becomes a battle to the death so be it.. he isn’t afraid to kill his maker.

I enjoyed Second of the Winterset Coven. I admit that I enjoy T.S. Joyce’s shifters more than her vampires – a personal choice. The story is strong and convincing, the action fast and the sexy times are definitely sizzling. One haunted man finally has his love in his arms again… how much better can you get than that?

I read this story through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. For ten dollars a month you get access to thousands of really great stories across all genre, and the authors get paid for you reading the story through to the 100% mark. It’s a win-win. Probably the best 10 bucks I spend a month.

The most interesting thing about this one was Garrett's past. It was crazy that he is as old as he was and more than a little sad how Garrett was turned. I liked how Dawn saw the vampires as people, not like some of the other feeders. When Garrett's past came calling it made him realize how much Dawn meant to him and cause him to claim her. I liked that the coven backed Garrett in things. But I think the best part of this one was the talk that Sadey and Dawn had at the end, was glad that they found a place to belong.

Dawn and Garrett

Dawn a waitress is also known as a feeder. She is in love with Garrett a vampire. However he breaks it off as he doesn't want his past catching up.

When the danger comes can they come out on the other side?

Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone
Part of a Series?: Yes

Meeting the Characters
Dawn Reed
Garret Westergaard

What happens?
Dawn is Garret's feeder. She is besotted with him and he her but he is wary of loving her because she is human and also the spitting image of Garrett's first love before he was a vampire.
Unfortunately Garret's maker is out for blood for Garrett 'abandoning' him. He sees the resemblance in Dawn for Torum and decides he needs to kill her again to stop Garrett pining for her.
Final thoughts
This was a nice romance. It wasn't in the same intensity of her other books based in the same world but it was still nice. This was just a book I picked up read a bit of and then put down multiple times so this has taken me a few weeks despite the start and finished reading dates.

I wanted to write a astonishing review here, I can see the words floating in my head, but all I can do it say the book was fantastic, wonderful, romantic and full of action.
Dawn/Torunn and Garret/Geir. Their story begins when Vikings still ruled the seas way back when. Present time finds both of them hurt and suffering, Dawn is attacked by Asmund Garret's maker and she is drawn back again to Garret and the Coven, old friends visit too, and it was nice to see them again.
What more can I say, I found the story captivating and loved every minute of it, could not puts it down till I finished it and I know I will visit Winterset again and again. Can't wait for more books from this Author, I just wish I had more of a flair with words then I do. Thank you for a super great story and a trip into a great book.

I loved this book, once again TS Joyce has produced a book leaving you wanting the next one in the series in your hot little hands straight away.

What's to love about this book? Besides from everything? We have the strong and proud alpha male in Garrett and hot did I mention HOT? Then we have the beautiful and could be any one of us Dawn, it was easy to visualise these characters as TS writes such a believable story that you can just allow yourself to sink in to this world she has created in Winterset. It was nice to catch up with Aric and Sadey in this book as well as Shane and Evan and I look forward to their stories being told.

I have given this book 5 well deserved stars and thoroughly recommend it.

This is the second book in this series and they are better read in order. Dawn Reed is a feeder and appeared in the first book. She feels more for Garret, the second of the winterset coven than just the feelings feeding causes. Then Garrett cuts her off and she is left mourning what they had. Dawn is in danger from Garrett’s maker. Now Garrett must face his maker and the reason he sought Dawn out in the first place, plus Garrett’s true feelings for Dawn. This book was interesting and I would love to read more about these characters. I like getting to read a different perspective on the vampires that were the bad guys in the other spin-off series by T.S. Joyce. I love T.S. Joyce and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
I was so fascinated with Garrett and Dawn in the first book when we got glimpses of them. But as I got to know them chapter by chapter I fell more in love with each of them separately and together. There was something so magical about about their connection, so raw and deep. Their connection was on another level, brought together by fate and held together by a deep love. The way they adored one another, they way they wanted to give each other the world, and especially the way they fought for each other and those they loved.

Such a beautiful, action packed story!

Great

Loved it read it for times. Now they can have babies. Lol They are good for each other. Will there be another book in this series? This is crazy. I will not write another review. Not very big on typing. I have ready so many books by her. I love all of them. I have even read about their children.
I can't submit until I have more characters . I can't think of anything else to say, so. I'm just trying

A 2nd book in this great world of vampires

Dawn you fall in love with right away you root for her to come out on top from the beginning

Garret's story is fascinating and I love the prologue. This story has some twists and turns you don't see coming, exciting until the end. Laugh out loud moments, some hot sex and action what more could a girl ask for?

Well maybe a story for Evan and Shane would be great if wishes are being granted 😉

Vampire find love

A story filled with suspense, fast moving and action. T. S. Joyce knows how to entertain her readers and give them megawatt smiles at the end of her stories. We are always happy and characters are always growing in strength. I think it makes us better for reading them. Garret is strong and resilient, Dawne is stronger than she realise. Fun. Easy. Quick read. Highly recommended.

Novella - the H is old, and the h is reincarnation of his previous lover. But she is different, more vulnerable and he doesn't protect her well. As a result and old enemy hunts her and the H her to decide her fate. It was good but not great. The h is OK, but the H was not as strong as I like. Still good.

A great addition to the shifter world

This 2nd book is great addition to the world TS Joyce has built. We meet this coven in the bloodrunners and it was such a great surprise to see their own stories. Now in 2020 book 3 is due out. Love this author and love these books. Get to reading, you'll love it

This one seemed to have a lot of action. We know both of the characters from book one. But what we didn’t know is the history behind Garret. I didn’t care at first but as it comes into play it becomes important. I learned to like Garret as the book went on....he seems almost noble. Of course we see more of Aric and Sadey and get a look at a couple other coven members.

Here Kitty Kitty

Following T's release date reading order still
So awesome, goid storylines and maybe no new stories for the last two vamps . It's ok as this story ends with a perfect beginning for this coven. Action ,drama and a plot that is twisted. You won't know what is real.
Thank you T

*WARNING* intended for mature audiences
A rare shifter for Aric. Garrett has fallen for his human feeder. I like this series because they aren't speciasts (lol, my made up word for sticking only to their own species). The 2 coven members that are left are very quiet and stay in the background of the stories. I liked the story and would recommend it to anyone who likes Vampires.

I'm disappointed this one wasn't longer. Much like Aric's book, this one was too short to do Garrett and Dawn justice, but I enjoyed it just the same.

Honestly what could be sexier having your very own Viking. Garret’s a bit tortured and it took Dawn a bit to get him worked through that, but wow the feels hit right in the heart . This is a second chance romance with a twist. And can I say I love how it turned out.

Okay.

I wasn’t feeling the first part of the story and nearly DNF’d. The whole thing about her looking exactly like his ex who he’s been pining for for over 11 centuries? Mmm no. But it ended okay. I’ll still try the next in the series.

Probably my favorite of the Winterset Coven books, our main character has a sad background story and a horrible origin plus he’s a very old vampire from Viking times. It gives us a little background as to why our coven moved to Winterset and a sweet romance with a hint of a ghostly presence.
