Cripple Creek had a gold rush two years ago and the town was flush with people and money. Now, the town has become dilapidated and only a handful of miners pan for gold in the creek that is drying up from a long drought.
Jess arrives in Cripple Creek, where he meets a woman by the name of Lucille Deveroux. He stays in town and while there, the miners begin finding gold again as the creek rises to previous levels caused by two separate and strange events.
The gold rush is on again and it brings new miners and new wealth to Cripple Creek, but it also brings drifters, outlaws and thieves. The town has no law and Jess seems to be putting out fires left and right. Miners are being robbed, killed and some even suspiciously vanish.
Jess tries to enforce some order in the town, even though he refuses to take the town marshal’s job when offered to him. Tempers flare and the problems grow. Jess wonders if he alone can bring order back to the town.

Great western series. Jess Williams is a very interesting character and each hunt has it's own spin. Fast page turner. Highly recommend if you like westerns. You dont have to read them in order either. If you like westerns by Louis Lamour or Charles G West you'll like Robert J Thomas.
I really enjoyed the 53rd Jess book. In fact it's 1:00 am. I will probably read a chapter or 2 in the 54 Jess Williams book. But I usually finish and put the book down so I don't finish the next one. So enjoy folks I do. JD
Gold is discovered and men become greedy. Jess starts to help the poor miners and the town pro regain control. He gets help from Bodine and the Texas Rangers.

Mr. Thomas you did an excellent job writing this book. It is definitely a page turner. Have read the entire series and would recommend to anyone that likes a good western series.
I love these books on Jess Williams. They are always full of action. And Jess means business. But he is also a compassionate man. Look forward to more on Jess.
Cleans up another town, gets the bad guys and makes some money along with it. John Bodine shows up and helps Jess again. Thomas just keeps getting better.
Great novel. I very much enjoyed reading this book. We need more justice like the kind that Jess Williams dispenses. I recommend this book to everyone.
