Amazing! This manga captured the games very well and was definitely better than the anime.
2017 update: I liked it, very fun I just wish there was better development between Gold and Professor Elm; Elm just let Gold have Exbo without much protest, but cared more for Totodile. This chapter also takes off pretty fast I just wish it took its' time more at the beginning.
And we're into the second gen! Meet Gold, our new protagonist, who gets pulled into his Pokemon Journey through Johto when a mysterious figure, Silver, steals a Todadile from Professor Elm. Also, Team Rocket seperated him from his Poliwag so he has to travel to find her again. As he tails Silver though, he starts to see there may be more than meets the eye. We see a few other staples, like Joey and Kurt and Bugsy and there's some subplot with Bill's PC system being down...the back teased our Kanto friends will be back but I'm digging the different pace to this story. There hasn't been too much with battles since Gold isn't trying to earn gym badges. Looking forward to seed how this next chunk of Adventures develops!
I’m least familiar with the Gold/Silver generation of Pokémon. Though I did play the HG/SS version of the game, so I do know enough to catch the little inside jokes, and maybe that’s why I found this even more exciting than the Gen 1 manga. Gold is kind of annoying at times, but charming enough so that he makes up for his mistakes. I found myself laughing more than once at his little mishaps. Silver is still mysterious, but that’s one reason I’m excited to start the next volume. Oddly enough, this particular volume seemed to stick more to the game and anime logic than the original, though it seems to have kept the mildly dark realism which is a signature of the manga.
These are always enjoyable; got the boxset and it's a nice addition to my Pokemon collection. I love the humour and absurdity of these novels and feels great to dive back into Johto! Reading through the series alongside a much heavier non-fiction book to help keep things lighthearted when I need them to be.
A promising start to a new story. I like how they've managed to make Gold distinct from Red. Can't wait to find out what happens next. It's good to be back.
Pokémon Adventures, Vol. 8Hidenori Kusaka This is a new story in the world of pokemon. The book is a continuation of the previous 7 volumes but now focuses on a new protagonist a ten-year-old boy named Gold as he travels throughout the Johto region. He makes new friends and enemies while exploring. Gold starts his adventure by trying to get a stolen pokemon back from this thief named Silver. Gold is given this mission by professor Elm. He is also tasked with hatching a newly discovered pokemon egg. The evil organization team rocket has popped back up and is on a new mysterious mission. One complaint is the pacing of the book can change drastically at times whether that's spending multiply pages in one location or getting through areas on less than a page. The story has a really good narrative and has interesting details for older pokemon fans This is a great book for returning pokemon fans or even new ones. I highly recommend this book and its series for its rich world-building and detailed characters.
Gold and Silver the 2nd generation is one of the generations I had the least memories of and is my least favorite generation. So because of that I do not remember much of the events of the story aside from Silver stealing from Elm and just like the Generation 1 adaptation of the Adventure manga this volume does have a break neck pace as events just zoom past which kind of makes sense but at the same time it does mean that the character do have a hard time at getting fleshed out. However I do admit I did like that they did try to flesh out Silver as he was one of the rivals who never really had much of a personality. And I was shocked a bit when Gold revealed how he throws a pokeball with a Cue Stick which is unique and does help Gold stand out from Red. Another criticism is that the Badges don't seem to be much of a priority to Gold as he does visit a few cities with gyms but he never stops by them. Also I do like that we are actually getting to see how Gym Leaders are chosen.
A new region and new protagonist kick off the next leg of Pokemon Adventures, and it’s… more of the same! There are some intriguing elements, such as what Silver’s deal is and who’s leading Team Rocket now. Gold is a very different protagonist from either Red or Yellow (though not always in a likable way).
But the first volume of Gold’s journey is still beset with the same jarring transitions and clunky action. Things just don’t flow well for me in this series. I’m hoping that the upcoming artist change might alleviate these issues somewhat, but I guess we’ll see.
3/5 - It’s definitely more Pokemon Adventures!
P.S. The pool cue pokeball handling is just dumb, I’m sorry.
Volume eight is the first of the second Pokemon arcs, detailing Gold & Silver or generation two. I’ve made a note in other reviews how I plan to only read through these, as it corresponds with my childhood. I have no interest in reading these after I stopped being interested in the series as a child.
That being said, volume eight was a fun continuation of the overall story and a fresh start. I like the new characters and adventures. It’s very refreshing and also nostalgic for me to read these as well as a nice pallet cleanse. It brings back memories of being in awe over the games.
Gold is basically a juvenile delinquent, I mean obviously not as much as Silver, but... He's just playing pool and listening to tunes like some old guy in a bar. Ha! That's not the delinquent part. I actually think it's an interesting added mechanic using the pool cue to send out pokemon. Anyway, this guy's
In the 8th volume we are now in the Jotho region. Gold his the new main character. Professor Elm having been robbed let borrow, well didn't really get a choice, cyndaquill to Gold. Silver have stolen Totodile and now Gold is on his trail to try to get it back. As well as his missing poliwag since previously, his bag have been stolen. He mangage to get it back but poliwag wasn't there. So far Gold not trying to earn any gym badge and catching up to Silver at the sprout tower he learn a bit more about Silver. Maybe he's not so mutch of a bad guys after all.
Entering the Gold/Silver arc, and while meeting an entirely different cast of characters is jarring, they're all as well written and characterized as the original cast. Gold and Silver are compelling leads, and the Johto region is filled with dope new Pokemon! I'm excited to meet the antagonists of this arc, and learn more about the flying Pokemon that supposedly kidnapped Green as a child. The plot certainly thickens.

No a nesedí mi ani český překlad a jména jako "Bušák."
Not sure if this is where the Pokemon Manga really hits its stride or if my nostalgia is just strongest for the Gold and Silver era, but this story feels good. Gold and Silver feel like more fleshed out and realized characters than Red had in the first 8 volumes. As someone who wished I had access to these as a kid and am experiencing them as an adult recovering the pieces of childhood that I'd missed out on, I really enjoyed this.
I love reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This volume was a great way to begin the GSC arc. It does an excellent job of establishing Gold as a protagonist; aware of his similarities to Red, yet making him different enough to remain interesting. His trickshot technique had the potential to be very gimmicky, but it's executed well and suits his personality. Aibo is a fantastic partner Pokémon for Gold.
I'm not sure how to feel about Gold as a protagonist. He's much more trouble making than Red or Yellow - if anything, I would compare him to Green (Blue in Jpn). I'll withhold judgement for now, though. I must admit, Silver has me very intrigued, and I'm interested to learn more about his and Green's past.
Overall an interesting but slow start to the GS era. The character of Gold has a very strong personality but Silver seems to be portrayed differently from the games in a way that hasn't really been fully laid out. He is still a thief but I'm not sure where he got his Sneasel from. If he has a Sneasel why is he stealing a Totodile?
I was not expecting the action at the start of this arc of Pokemon Adventures to start off with a bang! I got sucked in to the action at the first chapter (or, in this case, the 91st chapter since it's a continuation of the Pokemon Adventures series) and could hardly put the book down. I'm excited to continue this series!
already love gold and his antics and his nicknaming. i feel like they rlly hit their stride w yellow and they’re continuing it with gold. so much more likeable than red. i also like that we get so many details that aren’t in the games about characters and places. he hasn’t even fought a gym leader yet in a good way. i also just love how cozy johto is <333333
A new arc begins, and more fun adventures ensue. This one mainly based around new character Gold, with bits of Silver, and I don't find Gold as likeable as Red, but the story itself is still interesting and an enjoyable read.
I am genuinely sad I didn't like this. Gen 2 is my favorite generation but this was... not fun. I'll continue on through since it's a short arc and I think the last ones my library has on Libby but... yuck.
