Bedlam Butchers MC #7

Double Dare You

Rate this book
Becka isn’t the daring sort. She’s a chemistry nerd on vacation from college. She certainly wasn’t supposed to be stolen by a rival MC and sold as a plaything. Now, she needs a hero…or two.

Locke and Epic might be ride partners, but they’re not yet friends. Epic is freshly patched and Locke’s carrying a lot of baggage from the betrayal of his last partner. But when they’re given a new task – find Becka and bring her home – the men have to work as a team to protect her.

And, as the threesome spend time alone, they realize that not only are they better together, but that a few teasing dares just might bring them closer…in a lot of sexy ways.

Double Dare You begins where Slow Ride ended. Becka has been abducted by a rival MC gang due to her sister's stupidity. No, I'm still not over that! The newly paired butchers, Locke and Epic, rescues her from being sold as a sex slave. Deciding that it isn't yet safe for Becka to rejoin her sister, they hide away in a cabin until the coast is clear. This leads to a steamy game of truth and dare where they all learn something about theirselves. In my opinion, that was the hottest scene I have ever read from Ruby Dixon. Shew! When it is time to pack up and leave, they are forced to deal with the elephant in the room. Will Becka stay or will she go back to living her life like she did before getting involved with the BB?

This book was my favorite book of the series and that's because it was it was |gasp| MMF. I honestly never thought that this would be something I would enjoy reading. The way RD made them interact together from the very beginning made it feel like a actual relationship instead of some kinky fantasy. It made the trio feel more realistic and genuine. I loved everything about this book, and I can't wait to pick up more MMF novels.

Locke’s story

Wow this one had some twists and a turn into the trade world when Lucky’s sister is kidnapped and goes into stable for human trade- yes it gets dark. But Locke and newly patched Epic come to save. Now a huge battle occurs between the 88’s and 9’s but the book doesn’t go into that and focuses on their story- that might be in the other books though- but this one is absolutely steamy and looove the end. If Dixon continues story I will absolutely keep going.

I think I’ve just had my fill of childlike fmc’s getting all giggly and twirly with funny feelings in their tum tums after getting railed by hot, muscly criminals.

Oh and the audiobook did this no favors. Woof.

I liked Beck's story way more than the previous books in the series. This book was sweeter and not so steamy compared to the previous books, still a nice addition.

I wanted to read something different from the beloved Barbarians' Series from this author but this series is not for me. Part of that is my fault and partly the book's fault. I won't give a quick rundown because the book is pretty simple. I picked this book out of the series because I love a damsel in distress.

Characterization: This was poorly done and I was surprised considering how well done the characters from the Barbarian books have been. Older Dude and Chick were VERY one dimensional. Younger Dude had more of an "out there" personality so maybe that's why he felt more developed? I don't think there was any background on the Dudes except for a few words near the end. The Chick's background mostly was provided later on in the story but aside from the tragedy she suffered, she was so bland and had I ever met her at a party, I would literally walk away and not waste my time. She was supposed to be a very smart lady and came off as a vapid teenager type. I did sort of feel the chemistry between the three but only in the loosest terms. There is a long build up to only 2 sexy times and those weren't that hot. Again, I've read better from this author. The Big Bad was dealt with quickly and I actually just skipped those 2-3 pages because I really DGAF.

Plot: Nothing new. There was one result of her kidnapping that is not often seen but it wasn't dealt with that much yet would have been HUGE in real life. The author admitted to having a hard time starting, writing and finishing this one so I don't think she would disagree but the story was just light on content and interest.

Writing: Makes you wonder how this can be the same author as the Barbarian series. I'm going to guess that she really just loves her alien romances and puts her best work out there and is just challenging herself with these other genres?

I will say that MC novels are not my thing. I have gotten into some of them before but not many. My reason for dislike is two fold: 1. I get so tired of women always being "bitches". I don't mind it here and there but all the time? No, it's just annoying. This was not a problem in this book so I expected to like it more than I did. 2. The casualness of basically running a crime syndicate. The casual attitude towards selling huge shipments of illegal guns, selling of drugs, etc is just not an easy pill for me to swallow as a way of life. I'm okay with redemption stories in regards to this lifestyle but not a promotion of it. And as a former recreational drug user, I'm still not okay with it. So, part of my not liking the story is the genre itself but my above review still holds true.

Overall: If you absolutely eat up MC romance/erotica then you might enjoy this more than I did. But for me, most of this book read like my "purely porn" books, i.e. bad writing, ridiculous circumstances, etc. Free on Kindle Unlimited.

“I thought we were supposed to be all undercover! What’s this with writing porn and adding in a boyfriend!”

“Well, I figured three freaks would probably be less weird to the guy than a couple of bikers with a kidnapped girl.”

Wow, I kept staring at the story for a while after finishing it because my mind had turned into mush from all the hot scenes.

“Double Dare You” stars off with a darker flare than the rest of the books as we see Becka, who was previously kidnapped, now waiting to be sold as a slave.

“I’ve been kidnapped, felt up, treated like an animal, endangered, branded, and drugged for my body to be sold.”

Lucky for her, her sister is with the Bedlam Butchers so she send two of them to rescue her. I loved seeing Locke and Epic as partners they are so different characters and they balance each other very well. When easy going Epic was trying to mess with the more serious Locke, the results were pretty funny.

“One of my favorite things about being Locke’s ride partner is needling him. He’s so easy to fuck with.”

Plus, their attraction to Becka as well as to each other was such a pleasant surprise, it produced many hot scenes and I enjoyed each and every one of them.
"I’m starting to grasp why the Butchers are the way they are. Maybe it’s not so weird to have men pairing up, both in and out of bed. Maybe we’re just all filling in the missing pieces for each other."

One thing I didn’t enjoy was the way some characters were treating the rest of the girls who got kidnapped.

This book takes place right after the previous book in the series. Becka is the sister to Lucky, and she ends up being kidnapped by a rival motorcycle club at the end of the previous book. Epic and Locke have been tasked to track her down and rescue her.

This is one of my faves in this series! We have our first MMF in this series, and I really liked it! I also think this is the only bi hero Ruby has written, but please let me know if I am wrong! I loved the dynamic between all three characters and how they leaned on each other :)

I really liked this one. Ok..ok...i've always had a soft-spot for M/F/M romance.....and this one didn't disappoint.

It's great that there's a quick catch-up paragraphs at the beginning of the story - this means that you don't have to flick through the last book to jog your memory on what happened before. I think series should have this, especially the ones that have very long wait-period between books.

So from the last story, Becka, nerdy, sheltered younger sister of Gemini (0.5 President of the Bedlam of the Bedlam Butcher's) and Lucky (only girl Butcher) was kidnapped and primed to be sold off as a virgin sex-slave. But Locke (jaded Butcher who's partner before was the traitorous Taco) and Epic (newly patched pretty-boy type) was sent to rescue her. After that so as to keep her safe, the three of them had to hide for sometime as there's still unrest among the rival clubs. Becka realized that she's attracted to both of them and at the same time noticed there's a kind of sexual tension even between Locke and Epic. Something had to give eventually.

There's a bit of danger, lots of sexual tension, a slow bonding between them and the realization of their true feelings towards each other. The whole book is basically a long drawn foreplay and you only get to the real sexy times towards the end. But.....it's all good because with these characters the story needs to be built up first. My only contention is that the relationship between Locke and Epic was kind of glossed over. That would have added some really hot M/M scenes in the story.

A short read but at the same time the story is compact and satisfying.

Why does mood reading never get me a 5 star? Oy vey.

This was.. fine. If not a little, well, messed up. I can enjoy myself a dark romance, but I do not see how this would possibly be the outcome given how these characters met. How you go from almost being sold to wanting two men at once because you hate being a virgin? Girl, buy a toy. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is because I was somewhat intrigued with where the story went so it kept me reading.

I'm grateful for the audio experience, and while I expected a more intense romantic vibe, the story pleasantly surprised me with its steamy elements. The plot, although not overly romantic, managed to keep me engaged with its intriguing and sometimes humorous twists.

The narration, while generally smooth, occasionally felt a bit hurried, making it a fast-paced but easy listening encounter. The story's strength lies in its incorporation of steamy elements, adding an enticing layer that kept me hooked.

While not a traditional romance, the narrative succeeded in delivering an interesting and, at times, sizzling experience. The balance of steamy moments and humor created a unique and enjoyable listening adventure. Overall, a captivating story that kept me entertained with its unconventional but alluring elements.

This book was just not for me. I'm so sad! I LOVE the barbarian series and was determined to read all the author's other novels.

I am the first to admit that the whole MC genre is not my thing. I hate all the macho talking down to ladies. All the 'property'. The patches. The riding on the back of my bike stuff. The criminal activity makes my eyes roll and the casual disregard for life just doesn't sell the heroes to me. I am also not sure that a man in a leather vest can make me think of anything but The Village People... so none of that is the authors issue. It's mine.

But there were other issues. I felt the characters were very shallow. I never felt that they had much personality. They had no interesting conversations. I couldn't understand why they even liked each other. The author says that they talked and talked but we never heard any of this. By the time they got it on, I just felt removed from it all. The heroine was supposed to be a chemistry nerd but nothing she said or did supported this. I love a geek character, but there was little geek to be found her apart from at the end where the h studies for one paragraph.

I also felt the MMF scenes were not totally convincing. They felt a little bit uncomfortable and the dirty talk, which I usually love, just felt a bit awkward.

Not my cup of tea. Sorry!

I can't believe this is the last book in the series and hope Ruby Dixon continues with it at some.

I loved the whole series and read each book in it. In some series I might skip a book or two and the last book I have read twice! It's that good.

All the characters are well developed and potrayed whether its throughout all the books as they reappear or in the book highlighting them. The women characters are strong even with the adversity or angst they are put through. The male characters are the same but are also written to show a bit of their softer side even when they believe they don't have one.

I would recommend this to anyone fond of the MC trope

Update Match 2, 2024

I re-read this book today and I believe it's my absolute favourite Ruby Dixon book.

My third re-read and I enjoyed this more than the other two times.

I really hope there are more Bedlam Butchers in the future and even a fun holiday one updating us on all the couples.

BISEXUAL BIKER ALERT! ALERT! BIXSEXUAL BIKER! I was so excited to finally have one of the Bedlam Butcher threesome books feature some male-on-male action. However, while Locke does come right out and identify himself as bisexual (with a refreshing lack of angst about it, yay!) it’s not really the focus of the book and doesn’t get a ton of attention. I would have liked more of Epic and Locke assessing their relationship and maybe having a conversation or two about their attraction to each other. Also, I found Becka to be a really weak character and not nearly damaged enough for someone who had been kidnapped and tortured by a sex slave ring.

Audiobook review.
Would have been a 3 star review except for the end. Sure, leave Stanford to go to a college in Albuquerque to shake up with 2 bikers you've never smashed. 😐

Wish it was just a "hey they saved me, we had a connection, had fun, and now we move on with out lives and I don't give up my full ride to Stanford" book.

Audiobook was enjoyable though.

Mmmm smut smut smut and I love me some smut!

The Bedlam Butchers do everything and I mean everything in pairs. We see Locke in earlier books (of course in those books he is Lock-I do notice some inconsistencies through out the series but it's not a serious series it's smut so that can pass.) Anywho, due to the shitstorm earlier in the series, Locke now has a new partner, Epic. I like both of the characters a lot. Locke is serious but gentle and Epic is cocky and aggressive. It's a running theme in the serious I'm noticing. They are sent to rescue the Prez's sister, Becca, from a human trafficking ring. The details and the actual action are slim and glossed over other than Becca being branded on the back of her neck but you get the gist of it. They go on the run with Becca and end up at a little I guess B&B cabin type thing that's for newlyweds and it's cheap and cheesy. Now through this we see Locke struggling because he's Bi and attracted to Epic but he was betrayed by his last partner so he doesn't want to get to close to Epic. Plus Epic is known to be straight (for now).

Becca is a great character because she picks up on this tension from Locke to Epic and kinda forces it to come out during a game of truth or dare. And what did you know? Epic digs it.

Becca is a virgin and they wrestle with doing the right thing. It's full of tension and great lead ups. The actual activity between Locke and Epic, is very small, there isn't any detailed M/M other than small play. The actual smut scenes are small but the great thing about this book is that the author leads up with so much that by the time they do get to it you're squirming going come on! YESSS!

I would have liked more sexy time but this was good for a start. Maybe she will get more comfortable later with m/m action. Until then. Great job and thanks for making me all antsy lol!

Notes: This book was the best in the series, and for that reason I could give it a 4 stars rating. Although, it's not the best Dixon's book or the best book I've read overall.
I had issues with this series being mainly MMF but the men only interact with the woman, they tried very hard to be hetero and failed miserably because they were a poly "couple".
So, this book was way more interesting than the others, since one of the Ms was bi and the other was curious, we don't have them sharing their sexuality or even Epic coming to terms that he's bi/pan. It was almost as Epic was only gay for Locke, which I think is dumb. But, again, it was not the best bi representation I've seen... Even inside a poly couple (trouple?).
To sum it up, it was a 4 stars book inside the Bedlam Butchers series, but it was barely a 3 stars book in general. I don't even think it deserves a .5 star here, it's not that good...

This was 100% the best in the series.

I think it was a mix of the (kinda) slow burn and the fact that Locke is bisexual—when I read that in the first chapter from his POV, I was locked in.

I do, however, wish that the relationship between Locke and Epic had been explored more. It didn’t sit right with me that they only say I love you to Becka and not to each other. That made it feel a bit unbalanced, especially considering Locke has been lusting after Epic for longer than he has for Becka.

I also would’ve liked a chapter from either Epic or Locke’s POV during their kissing scenes. Why were both kisses only shown from Becka’s POV? I get that Ruby Dixon likely wanted to highlight Becka’s voyeurism and how turned on she gets, but honestly, I would have much rather experienced those moments through Locke or Epic’s perspective. Becka just felt like the third wheel in those scenes, and it kind of took away from the emotional connection between the guys.

I know these books are part of a larger universe, but I chose to stick with just The Bedlam Butchers because they were short (audio) and something to listen to while waiting for another book I had on hold at the library. With that being said, these are fairly decent stories. I've never been a huge fan of the MC trope, and reading (or rather listening) to this "series" didn't change that. But it was a nice distraction while waiting for my next audiobook.

The last book in the series was probably about the best. I was really hoping for more M on M action, as this one leaned more that way than the rest and was slightly disappointed but not enough not to encourage readers to try the series out.

Happy reading (or listening)!

Epic, Becka, and Locke!

First of all, Locke got his name from watching the TV show Lost so much as a prospect and I just gotta say, MY TYPE. MY TYPE.

However, this last one fell flat for me. Not a lot of sexy time. Sad face :( And they were pretty mean and tease to Becka, leading her on, in my opinion! And then

Technically we only get two smut scenes, one of which they go all the way. Bummer man.

Finally a bedlam Butcher read that involved crossing swords, kinda.

This was a very quick read. It is told from three different people and I think that's the only reason I was able to really get into it. If it would have just been Becka's or Epics point of view the whole time my review would be different. But you do have to keep in mind those two are very young and had to play the part. On top of that becka is young AND sheltered. Definitely a combination that leads to some annoying thoughts and actions but it fits.
Lock was pretty cool though. I would have enjoyed more backstory on everyone just to see how they got to where they did. But it was enjoyable for how short it was.

I love this series but didn't necessarily love this book. It was okay but I am pissed at the idea of a girl who is smart enough to get into stanford with a full ride giving that up when she doesn't have to. Why graduate from a community college if you can finish at an ivy league. I just wish that authors would allow women to be smart in their own right and with their own accomplishments without having to give that up for a man. I think that authors need to get on board with shifting times. Women can do more than lay on their back, wash clothes, and take care of a man.

Ooh

This book had it all. Action, drama, and sizzle.
Love the trio. Enjoy the fact that heroine isn’t into the club life and her partners are okay with that.
One odd thing is the Cornell, Stanford mix up. Unless I am confused, the early story mentioned NY and Cornell.
Now that I think, she should be a senior.
How about making her a research chemist at finish schooling in NM, with her old men and family funding her legit lab.

Double Dare You

Lots of spicy fun. This is my first book in the series so now I'll go back and get caught up with the other characters. These characters and their relationship are well developed throughout the story and within the spicy scenes.

My favorite line is between the two MMCs,

“Goddamn it, this sounds worse with every moment. Just quit talking, man, or next you’re going to tell me God kills a kitten every time I think a dirty thought about her.”
