THIS IS A STANDALONE INTERRACIAL ROMANCE. Keisha A year ago, I had it all; the perfect children, a thriving career, and a loving husband. My life couldn’t have gotten any better, but then, out of nowhere, my perfect little world came tumbling down. My husband left me for my cousin. My son was on the verge of being kicked out of school. My job… Let's just say a breakroom misunderstanding forced me to dish out thousands of dollars in anger management classes that I didn’t need. I was on the verge of a mental breakdown when he came into my life and changed it all around. Kyler Life for me was no walk in the park. I broke free from my nut job parents, followed my dreams, and overcame my very awkward teenage years. I left a string of broken hearts over the last eight years, and I planned on breaking more in the future. Well, that was the plan until I saw her again for the first time in ten years. She was my childhood crush and the only woman that stole the breath right out of me with a single look. Her face had gotten me through some traumatic events in life. Now here she was suffering at the hands of the man that nearly stole my life. I had to help. It was only right. I just prayed that I didn’t get my heart ripped out in the process.
Stephanie James is a creative soul with a serious soft spot for love—especially the kind that blooms in multicultural relationships. She writes stories featuring strong women of color, flawed-but-fine heroes, and couples who fight their way through past traumas to earn their happily ever afters.
Stephanie’s playground is contemporary and urban romance, where passion comes in many flavors. Whether you like falling for broody millionaires, irresistible male strippers, or heroes who bring just the right touch of danger, she’s got a story ready to sweep you away (and maybe keep you up past your bedtime).
When Stephanie isn’t holed up in her writing fortress of solitude, she’s braving blistering heat or icy winds on the sidelines of her daughters’ softball games or her son’s soccer matches. And if she’s not doing that, she’s probably wandering through a new city for yet another wildly overpriced cheer competition. Through the chaos of parenting—chaos she admittedly loves—Stephanie still ends each night wrapped in her beloved Comfy, devouring a new romance by a fellow amazing author.
With every book she writes, she leaves a piece of her heart on the page, letting her characters speak through her to tell their messy, magical, multicultural love stories.
I actually grew to enjoy this one. I wasn't completely enamored at the beginning but as I flipped the pages it certainly grew on me. Kiesha found herself in a situation that is probably every married woman's worst nightmare. In the church when she is about to have her newborn babygirl christened, her douchebag husband, James decides to tell her that he wants a divorce. Now never mind that they are in the church and about to witness what should arguably be one of the most precious events of a new parents life, this complete waste of space not only confesses his desire to "live his life" but he even had the audacity to have the whore he cheated on with there as well. And low and behold who is it but the trashy cousin that Kiesha took into her home to help her with her children, Tammy. Now of course the next sequence of events in my opinion were warranted. She completely lost it and commenced to give this homewreaking hussy the beatdown of a lifetime. Of course James stood back and watched in some bemused trance-like state as the mother of his children acted out her pain on his sidepiece. It wasn't until he saw that she was aiming to come for him next did he seem to want to move out of harm's way. But thankfully Keisha is rescued just in time by a blast from the past. Right when you think nothing could get any worse her mother who is supposed to be the supportive rock and in my opinion right beside her daughter beating the wheels off of her cheating husband, turns on her telling her to apologize to her husband and Tammy. Now I don't know about y'all but I don't know what planet or alternate reality this delusional old bag of bones crawled out of but I'm telling you I wished at that very moment that I could transport myself inside of the book and help poor Kiesha beat the wheels off of her momma. Now enter Kyler. At first Keisha has a sense of familiarity and deja vu but she is unable to put her finger on why she feels this way. Fast forward and we learn that Kyler is the young guy who went to high school with her that she was constantly defending against bullies. Now Keisha at times came across as a GRADE-A BIH but I couldn't help but give her a pass. She went through some of the most traumatic events known to a woman and I don't know many who would have been able to say they gracefully sailed through every situation without there being some hiccups along the way. Now outside of Kyler Derrick had to be my favorite character. I loved him for his truth, honesty, and hilarious antics. I think every girl needs a "A good good judy" like Derrick. He told Keisha the hard truth and didn't allow her to bury her head in the sand when she was wrong. Now overall I loved the book but there were a few things that just didn't sit well with me. Keisha's obvious naivete sometimes just made me want to just scream out GURL WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!! Also the loose end with Danica. Unless I missed it we never got to a place in the story where it was confirmed that James was in fact the father to her child. The thing is that there were many hints dropped and even the subtle hint when we find out that James knows about Jeremy playing football. I just don't think that the author cleared that completely up for us. Also the tension between Kyler and his father and the obvious racist comments that he directed towards Keisha were never fully resolved. Yes he punched his Dad but with a man that harbored that much hatred and resentment him walking away quietly just didn't seem very authentic to me. Overall I enjoyed the story. This was my first read by this author but it certainly won't be the last. Kudos Stephanie James!
This story had me laughing crying and ready to cuss someone out!! Kyler and Keisha was so made for each other and was finely happy that Keisha realize what she had in front of her! Kyler I love him, he's not afraid to show his emotions and put you in place at the sametime. He had me really crying when the church part came up!!! I just love this story!! Everyone should get this book because you won't be disappointed.
This was not what I was expecting, it was an old fashion love story with not that much of sex. I loved the way he loved her children like they were his own, It was a good read.
Although I enjoyed the chemistry between Keisha and Kyler, the raw sex scenes crossed the line from erotic to disgusting. Keisha and Kyler's hilarious friends as well as Keisha's phony, uptight mother revealed just how difficult it is to merge two very different, interracial worlds.
First I must say that this story was so emotional for me because of the situation that Keisha was in. I experience an almost similar situation. But honey the receipts!!! Kyler you are my new book boyfriend. This was truly a genuine love story. Keisha was married to a scum bag!! Kyler step up to the plate and handle his business to get his woman. So now I'm thinking Everett need his book, cause I would love to read his story!!
It was a nice read sometimes over the top. The mother Lavern was annoying and never supported her daughter and her encouragement involved telling her daughter to go back to a philandering schemer was ridiculous. Keisha was a bit wishy washy and Kyler a little too perfect. Also he never really dealt with his parent issues. Overall it was a funny, romantic eye opening read.
A bit too standard for me. The characters are basic and too common and the story is predictable and overused. This was my first story from the author and I don't know if I will read again. Nothing about this was interesting or touching or fun or any positive adjective. It was just there.
Really a great read, a worth while read. Again lots of typos etc, I really hope the published here get it together. (I can't say I see such errors in white novels🤨🧐😒) Great sorry, great characters, great chemistry....
First time reading this author. This book took way too long to get to the point. I had to start skipping sections. It could have had some more interesting twists in the storyline to keep you interested
A decent story. Keisha and Kyler. Clever names for the two characters. I think I liked the friends Derrick and Rodney a bit more than the major characters. I loved the kids. The mother was a mess although she redeemed herself. The ex was a louse. I’m glad it all worked out. My reason for three stars is the poor editing. It is my biggest pet peeve with these books. This was written in dual points of view and at times it looked like you couldn’t tell from which. You had to figure out context. That at times was frustrating for me. It’s what took me a bit longer to get through.
Keisha and Kyler were friends in school she was nice to him when there peers wasn’t…She didn’t know what he truly went through in school..Kei married her high school sweetheart and he turned out to be a piece of work…Had her showing her behind in the church house …She didn’t realize that the man she had married and had children with would do this to her at church of all places …Kei had to go all Ali up in the house of the Lord..It’s scandalous…. I love how Kai is with her children they take immediately to him a good sign when the children like you..Kai is a grown man now and he will not be bullied.. Sparks will fly the characters are hilarious and sweet.
A second chance romance by Stephanie James, Keisha Hamilton believed she had a perfect life, loving husband, two kids and a dog. Until one day her world fell apart unexpectantly. In walks Kyler Higgins, Kyler is already half-in-love with Keisha and total in love with her baby girl Jesse. Keisha's son Jeremy also has a special place in his heart. Before too long Keisha will have to choose the life she thought she wanted or the life Keisha never knew she needed.
It was missing a confrontation between Keisha and her so-called friend, that needed to be a 'Waiting to Exhale' moment, Bernie and John's scene where Bernie slaps the mistress (just my opinion).
This book was a great second chance romance. Kai is an art teacher at a private school. He runs into his high school crush at her lowest point. She is going through a divorce and her young son is struggling. Kai is asked to mentor Keisha’s son. Kai knows that Keisha is the one for him….but can he persuade Keisha? This book was an interesting mixture of inspiration and heat. A well written story.
WOW could not put it down . Really enjoyed every thing about this book . It will be one that I will have to read again. I must say that I was so happy that K
at told her mother where to go . Got to see the kind of man James was. But I would love to fine out more about some of the their friends and family that really care about them .
I really enjoyed the growth of the relationship and the surprises at the end, I only wished more punishment was directed to that smug ex husband. He didn't deserve tho have any happiness. The mean I envisioned Kai to be is perfect. Great choice in his description. Just a great read.
Heroine was so ghetto especially at the beginning. For someone who acted all gung ho she sure had a weak spine when it came to her ex and her mother. Her mother reminds me of my sister. Horrible beings who say the most nasty shit to spite you. Best thing I ever did was cut her off. People like that don't change. The hero deserved better to be honest
This book is amazing. It was an emotional rollercoaster. This book Had me crying And laughing all at the same time. All around great story great characters love the whole concept love the way the author bought it all together she might have just become a new favorite author. Totally recommend for anyone who is interested in a good story.
I must say I enjoyed this book a lot. At times I think the author got the characters names mixed up but can happen when you're writing a book. I hate how things ended for the husband James.
I loved this book. I laughed and cried. I loved the author's portrayal of the characters. How they wasn't too gay or too ghetto. I loved Kyler , I rooted for him from the beginning. Keisha was a winner also. One of my favorite interracial reads. And I have read lots.
This story was far better than I expected when I began reading this IR romantic story. Keisha's husband asked her for divorce. She had just given birth to their daughter, who was not quite 3 months. The most amazing fact was that her husband had slept with the nanny. And by the way the nanny was Keisha's cousin. Through the story readers will discover that James was a dog. After their son started to act out, the art teacher would come to the rescue. The art teacher was an old classmate and kid who'd been bullied by her ex and his crones. Kyler used to be a slub and human punching bag. His look now was a far cry from the kid of old. Over the story Kyler, Keisha and the kids became inseparable. The ancillary characters include a pro football player, a gay friend and various others. Each made the story work. The pieces was a great read. The story does not beat the readers over the head about the couples race differences. The story focused more on the children, loving them, and blending a family together filled with love.
Kyler and Keisha's love went unrequited for over 10 yrs..she got married to her high school sweetheart who turned out to be a rolling stone and far from sweet...Kyler went from a pimple faced scrawny kid to a hot hot babe...he always loved Keisha because she was the only one who stood up for him while he was bullied by her now cheating husband...Kyler came across as a gold star character..omg...whatta man...whatta man...Keisha came across as a angry black woman but he calmed her down...soothed the angry beast...loved her through her kids...touched her heart and showed her another way...through trust, faith and unconditional love...the cast of characters are hilarious..especially Rodney and Derrick....only critique I have is to tell Stephanie to slow down....inhale...do not rush to the epilogue...a good storyline will always stretch itself...
Loved this book! The storyline was fantastic as were the characters. Keisha and Kyler's chemistry was so intense. The secondary characters were great also could there be a future book in the making? Kyler was amazing. He knew what he wanted and was willing to fight for it. Keisha had never been loved and needed. That's what she had with Kyler. Check it out. The Pieces, by Stephanie James.
Fantastic story that had me gripped, could not put the book down
A beautifully written story of enduring love, betrayal, bullying, friendship, it had everything in it! I fell in love with Kyler I thought his character had depth and was well developed, saying that all the characters were well thought out and presented well, I will not give anything away as the synopsis gives you enough but this is worth reading.
This was a great book. The storyline flowed well, the dialogue was great, and there was a steamy scene or two. I loved Kyler he was such an amazing man. Keisha deserved happiness after being cheated on by her husband and treated horribly by her mother. Keisha and Kyler's story is one of fate and healing
I really got into this book. The women in this had a lot to deal with cheating husband. Who had affair with her 19 year old cousin. Then he 2 kids by other women. Thank god she found that out before she took him back. I always like Ms. James books her stories are good to read. Look forward to her next book.
