From the USA Today and AMAZON best seller of The Reckless Series, HJ Bellus, comes a sexy romance: SCANDAL.
scan·dal /ˈskandl/- an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage.
That’s my life. It’s all been an evil game of charades with me at the center.
I followed their rules. Married the right man with the perfect last name. Made the best wife and partner for, Zack Blackwell, on his triumphant trial to the Senate.
My reward… lost my best friends. watched myself dissolve in front of the mirror. hidden bruises, broken bones, and a crushed soul.
I’ve ran and know there will be punishments, but there’s no way I can get this bone set in the hospital. Zack will be exposed. In a sick and twisted way I can’t hurt him. It’s all part of the Scandal.
I call the one person who always saves me, Ava. But will she answer?
USA Today Best Selling Author, HJ Bellus is a small town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shot gunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.
This is the 2nd book I have tried by HJ Bellus and I loved this just as much as Pinky Promise. Again she has written another incredible hero. Kip is protective, caring, sexy and sweet. He is definitely my new book boyfriend. I also really liked the heroine, Chloe as well. She went from broken to strong. Their romance definitely moved fast. For me it felt right but if you aren't a fan of instant love then it might not be for you. I now can't wait to read more books by HJ Bellus.

I need more stars. The storyline in Scandal was deep as heck but HJ Bellus found a way to make it sexy and exhilarating. How can I explain my feelings after experiencing so much pain, lost, nightmares, and devastation.... one word, educated.
Domestic abuse is a touchy subject because so many want help and need it but are afraid to seek it. For Chloe this held true and she lost herself as well as her best friends because of shame, fear, and guilt. All it took was one call and the broken pieces of her past life was on the mend. Help from a shattered, Kip allowed her to see she had a purpose and allowed him to see his as well. They were each others strength when being weak felt so right. Being closed off in an open world felt like a magical place of heaven. Kip introduced her to a world of loving herself and not apologizing for having a thought and she introduced him to shedding some scabs does not make you lesser to your friends.
My review can go on and on but the moral is, one person can kill you while one loves you back into existence but it takes your self determination to fight to WIN what is meant for you in the end. Great end to a phenomenal series.
OMG!!! This story left me breathless and speechless. I absolutely loved Dirty and Filthy. So I knew I would love Scandal as well. But nothing prepared me for the emotional ride that this story took me on. Chloe’s story is gut-wrenching. So much emotion pouring off the pages. I cried throughout this book. Her journey is just incredible. Kip is amazing. Such a great character. He has had his share of hurt and sorrow. The connection between these two is phenomenal. The story flowed effortlessly and kept me addicted till the last word. There was a surprise character that I hope gets a story (hint hint). If you read Dirty and Filthy, you know that Zane, Ava, Rhett, and Darby are hilarious. There were several times I laughed till I cried, and I have to admit that one of them made me spit my drink out. I loved that the humor was present in this story to somewhat offset some of the drama. So much love for this book!
LEEANN'S REVIEW 6 STARS
Holy WOW.. Book of the year.. Hands down!!
Domestic Violence is such predominant problem in our society, no mattention what country you live in and HJ Bellus has approached it with sensitivity and class, but at the same time she has held nothing back. She has really proved she has a true talent with the written word. I have loved all of her books so far, but this is my 2016 Book Of The Year.. Hands down.
Chloe married Satan himself. There is no other way to describe him. I certainly would by no stretch call him a man. Kip has a boatload of demons and has no idea when he meets Chloe for the first time that she is his saviour.
These two seriously are a beautifully stunning healing couple. It quickly becomes clear that together there is nothing they can't do. There is a huge twist towards the end and a whole lot of emotion along the way. I will admit I needed tissues more than once reading Chloe story and even some of Kips moments had me in tears. They have a long road to travel to reach their happen ending and trust me when I say that road is full of triumph and tragedy. They do however have a group of their own self made family to get them through and push them towards their future.
I seriously cannot say enough great things about this book it is just amazing.
If you can handle characters that have suffered through the darker side of life and are battling to shine through on the other side then you definitely want to one click this one! I would highly recommend this book to everyone!
GINA'S REVIEW 4.5 STARS
I adore this series and Scandal was AMAZING! This book took on a more serious tone compared to the first two books in the series. It was so much more emotional because it deals with domestic violence and that is present through out the book. This story was fantastic! Kip and Chloe are two incredibly strong characters. I loved reading about them overcoming their past demons and being able to look towards the future.
I thought the story was well written and again, I loved the storyline. So much emotion from beginning to the end. We are introduced to a new character so...maybe...we will get another book. Wink Wink While this book was more serious, I did miss some of the humor that was present in the previous books. Maybe it would have been hard to fit it in, but I just missed that HJ Bellus humor.
Overall, I loved the book! It was a fantastic read from beginning to end. Its full of drama, suspense and most of all love! All the books in the series can be read as a standalone, as each book focuses on one couple but all the book are so amazing, you need to read them all!
The third installment of the series was really intense and emotional, the author as in her previous books put her magic and delivered another strong story with a very sensitive subject, the domestic violence and how an abused woman gained her strength and took her independence back with the help of people who cared much for her.
This woman in the story is Chloe, i was anticipating for her book since i finished filthy where the author gave us a glimpse from what is about to happen in this one and honestly it was a great story both characters have been through a lot painful things in the past and you'll be blown away by Kip's, i for sure felt really sad with his past and i admired that not only he didn't take the wrong turn but he certainly became a great person with caring, sensitive personality in other words A Protector.
Chloe saw all this goodness in his eyes and she trusted him from day one, that was something that i didn't expect cause of her poor excuse of husband but it was a very pleasant surprise the way the author developed the plot. Furthermore there are some really enjoyable (and hot) scenes with interesting dialogues and of course the appearance of the characters from the previous books as always gave me lots of joy. I definitely recommend it and i can't wait to read the next story the author will create.
I love Kip. I love how private he is, how protective he is, how he stands up for what he believes in, how he does not take crap from anyone, and basically, I love who he is. I. Love. Kip.
"Every ugly healing bruise and scar shreds me like no other. I've remained a private person for good reason, but for some strange fucking reason Chloe is tearing down all the barriers and doesn't even know it."
Upon meeting Chloe and seeing the hell she's been through, Kip couldn't help but feel protective of her. He's already seen the effects an abusive husband can have on a woman, and he'd do anything to keep Chloe from ever experiencing that final blow.
Kip and Chloe have a connection that sizzles right off the pages of this book. You can tell he wants nothing but the best for Chloe and sheknows it. She opens up to him and with Kip's help, she slowly begins to heal.
"Chloe, you're healing me as much as I'm helping you."
Kip and Chloe's story is a journey you need to take. HJ Bellus creates a suspenseful yet passionate story that will hook you! This book is a great addition to a fantastic series!
"I've remained a private person for good reason, but for some strange reason Chloe is tearing down all the barriers and doesn't even know it."
Being a huge fan of HJ Bellus, and of this series, I knew going into this book it would be epic. I was wrong. It. Was. Phenomenal!!!!!!
This story was so raw, rough, and emotional. From the first page, you are immersed into this world of suspense and, not to be cliche,...Scandalous;) HJ Bellus knows how to write page turners!!
Chloe and Kip are two completely different people that have been cut from a similar type of cloth. This book hits lots of hard topics. A few might trigger some readers, but I think it would also help some as well.
"Chloe, you're healing me as much as I'm helping you."
The abuse of someone you love can affect each person differently. This book conveyed so many emotions from each character involved. Especially from the ones on the recieving end.
Chloe is an extraordinary character. She has stared the devil in the eye and still chooses to fight another day. Her strength and perseverance is what heroes are made from. Her story is one to be told!!
Kip is the white knight on a steel horse that has battled through the darkness only to be burdened with guilt most of his life. He goes above and beyond to protect the ones he loves so they never have to endure what he has seen.
"You're so much stronger than I am, baby. It took me years and I still struggle." "Not brave, just ready to be set free."
I could say so much more about this book, but I could never do it justice. It is a story worth every penny.
This whole series has taken over my brain. Each and every backstory of these characters is truly remarkable. You can tell how good an author is by how much a story stays with you.
Kip and Chloe are two people that were meant to fall into each other at this point in their lives. Like I said before, this book hits so many hard topics, but I believe that every single person can get something from this story.
Round of applause for HJ Bellus!!!
"You're a warrior who has taken back her life and it makes me a stronger man just watching you."
5+++ Heart Wrenchingly Sensational Stars!! An ABSOLUTE MUST READ!!!
I have read both Dirty and Filthy (Books 1 & 2 in The Reckless Series) and I adored both of them...I totally lost my heart to Rhett (Zane wasn't too shabby, either ;) ) but Scandal, the third, and BEST, book in this series, has left me absolutely gutted!!! The book hangover from this one is going to be especially painful!
First off, I have liked a lot of heroines in the books I've read, I have even loved some of them (in a purely best-friend, sisterly way!)....but I have to say that Chloe is THE most heartbreaking. incredibly soul-touching, beautiful and strong heroine I have EVER had the pleasure to meet! After reading her story, it FEELS like I know her and she is very real!! Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Kip...gorgeous, sexy-as-hell (I definitely got a "foner" for him....you'll have to read the book to find out what THAT means!) with a horrible story of his own but it was Chloe's story that had me shaking my fist in anger, sobbing along with her in pain and in the end, had my heart sighing with her much-deserved happy ending!!
It was an incredible journey from start to finish...re-connecting with the other couples Ava and Zane & Darby and Rhett, the very special love and friendships between them all. Reading this book was a little bit like watching a beautiful flower grow and blossom under the warm spring sun...Chloe did just that!
This book is just full of all kinds of CRAZY hot chemistry and sex, but it also has all the other feels as well...I can tell you that I will NEVER forget this book and will re-read it over and over and over again!! Another fantastic read by HJ Bellus!
OMG This book has a serious side to it but then, it also has the the fun banter between the characters that make them click together effortlessly. Their pasts have broken them, but together they make a complete puzzle. This book has violence, sadness, hatred, revenge, heartbreak, friendship, love, sexy strippers, loads of banter and hot sex
Scandal can be read as a standalone but I would definitely read Dirty & Filthy to get to know the crazy bunch of lovable characters featured in this book.

Chloe, this woman has been through hell countless times with Zack. A husband and your parents are meant to love and protect you, not mentally and physically abuse you. But her knight isn't on a horse, she gets a tatted, hot, ball capped saviour on a cool ride, and he loves unconditionally. But will Zack let her have an HEA with Kip? Or will he destroy her world further?
Kip, Oh lord he's just as hot as the cover and you can help but love this sexy AF, tatted, ripped, broody BA with a heart of gold. He'll do anything to protect Chloe, he never bargained on having a woman like her in his life, she's the light at the end of a dark tunnel. Life is definitely a rocky road with twists and turns trying to end them, will they be strong enough to ride it out?
You also get to meet Cruz from Diablo’s Throne Book 1
Chloe a abused woman and married to the devil himself. Chloe gets away with a very broken arm and help by friends. Chloe meets Kip who helps her and starts falling for her but he has problems himself cause of his past? Will Chloe be able to be strong enough to go on with all the abuse she's been through? Will Kip see he deserves to be loved? Will Chole and Kip ever be able to see happiness? This book touched my heart. I have been through a lot of what Chloe went through and reading about it opened my eyes to how strong I really am! Thank you Hj Bellus to write a book about domestic abuse and the victims that turned out to win! I will remember this book forever! 5/5 stars Reviewed for Sweet & Spicy Reads - ARC provided for a honest review ****
Amazing story about what a woman goes through when rescued, braved through trauma and falls in love with her handsome rescuer; after being abused by her husband. Oh what a Scandal H.J. Bellus wrote! I swooned, I cried, and laughed but in all Bellus stole my heart in this book.
3.5 stars. This was a pretty good book. It was heading towards being a 3.75-4 stars read, but there was something that happened towards the end that bumped my rating down a bit. This is Chloe and Kip's story. Chloe is running from an abusive marriage to a congressman. He physically, emotionally and sexually abused her. The last straw that made her run was when he broke her arm and the bone was sticking out. She calls her two best friends and they come rescue her from a shelter. Chloe's best friends are married to two best friends who have a third best friend, Kip. They are worried about Chloe's husband coming after her, and Kip is a former cop, so they decide it is best for her to stay with him, for protection. Kip knows what Chloe is going through, because he saw his mother get abused (and killed) at the hand of his step-father. He helps her get back on her feet and find herself. He is also dealing with the death of his partner, which resulting in him quitting the police force. Together, they both help heal each other and fall in love. They have to also deal with Chloe's divorce, a surprise family member returning, and her ex-husband's revenge. But they come out stronger together in the end.
This was a sexy, sweet and emotional read. I really liked Chloe and Kip (although that name is yuck!). I thought they were a really good match. They were both healing from some major trauma and dealing with emotional upheaval, but I think they were able to help each other heal and support each other well. Chloe had a lot to deal with to get back to herself after such terrible emotional abuse. Their relationship was slow moving because Kip was very sensitive to that. It was really nice seeing Chloe find herself and become a whole person again. He was so sweet when he took care of her too. Once they got together, Kip and Chloe were really hot together. I also liked their couple friends and the bits of humor added.
I didn't really like that Kip turned out to be a stripper. I thought that was random and came out of nowhere with no warning. It turned me off and I wished it had been left out. It was supposed to be sexy, but not to me. Neither was the "strip off" between him and his two best friends at a party at their house. I didn't think it fit with Kip's personality at all. He was quiet and the strong, silent type. Not an attention seeker. Luckily, his stripping was short lived.
The main thing that really bothered me, though, was that the couple was healed and really happy It felt like all of their healing was for naught and that they were back to square one, emotionally distraught. I just felt like that was a really low blow of a plot device. Why give one couple so much trauma to overcome? They had to start from scratch, trying to recover, at the end of the book. It really frustrated me to read.
There is a lot of violence, between flashbacks and present day, and descriptions of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. There was also the trigger of .
But overall, I did like the romance between Chloe and Kip. I felt their connection and the emotion between them. So, despite that the book had a few elements I did not love, I did enjoy the book. This is my first book by this author and I will probably try more book from her in the future.
I don’t know where to begin with this one. Kip and Chloe, both lived thru domestic violence. It’s a hard thing to read and I can’t even begin to image what it’s like to live through it. Kip and Chloe helped one another and found love and strength from each other. I thought things were going great for them and then boom, outta nowhere a car crash changes everything and beautiful lives are no more. Of all the couple in the world, they deserved to find peace and happiness.
Kip is the strong silence type and with a man like that by your side, you can never go wrong. He’s protective, loving and so gentle and kind. The man is truly beautiful inside and out. The quite ones are the ones you need to look out for in life and oh how true that is when it comes to Kip. He will do everything to kept with he loves protected and safe. Chloe married a very bad man and at her darkest time, Kip was there to hold her up and love her just a little bit more each day.
I was laughing my ass off in this one and I hurt and teared up, this one just took me for a ride and left me reeling in the end.
This is an amazing book about finding oneself again.
Chloe lost herself when she married Zach. She got a chance to redeem herself when a tragedy happened, and that’s when she met Kip. Though I personally don’t like stories of domestic violence or abuse, in this case, the author focuses more on Kip helping her to move on. Along the way the two fell in love with each other. Comparing to the second book, this one has less sex, and the characters took their time before getting intimate, which is very realistic for me. I also like seeing the dynamics of the group, and the heart-stopping action towards the end.
“Do you love her?” I know it’s fast, but I nod. “Then fucking go through pain and stand by her side because losing someone you really love will shred you.”
Overall, this is a really good book and for those who love the first 2 books, they are going to enjoy this third installment.
It takes a strong person to get away from an abuser.
This book is the third book in the series. It is about Chloe. We saw her a bit in book one. It was the summer before she got married. In this book she excapes from her very abusive husband. She is able to make it a few states away before she calls her friends Ava and Darby. They along with Kip after hearing what happened are on the next flight out to go get her. This book is about healing. About getting out and away. About how parents can sometimes only care about appearances. And that it is okay to walk away from people who hurt you. And those that allow you to be hurt.
This is a good read. I will suggest read the other books first in order because I didn't and was so confused in the first few chapters because I couldn't figure out who was talking to who. After that it gets easier. I will be reading the other books. This book has drama and sadness and romance and sex. I can't wait for her half brothers book.
I can't even say how much of this book touched me. My mom was in a bad relationship with my father who beat her for a good portion of their marriage. She hid it from us but we figured out on our own. The strength that came to write this book is overwhelming. Highly recommended this book!
I usually don't write reviews but this booked surprised me. I cried and fought with Chole & Kip. This really pulled at my heart and I am happy how well this book read. I have read 5 books from this arthur and everyone was great so far this was one that just grabbed me from the beginning. Thank you H J Bellus for some awesome reads.
Holy moly, I was not expecting that. It seems to be common occurrence with this series. The storylines just keep surprising me. You would think after the sneak peek I got at the end of Filthy that this would be expected but it did not play out like I thought it would. From the growing relationship between Kip and Chloe to the dark stranger to the devastation Chloe (and Kip) face (present and past). This series is just one surprising read after the other. KJ Bellus has quickly landed herself on my faves list. I hoping to get Cruz's story. I'm going into Crazy Ass Stalker Mode because I need more.
Good read. Read in one sitting. Not sure how I felt about the ending. It is a HEA ending, but pretty intense towards the back half of the book and I don’t generally enjoy that in my romance reads. But in another way I also loved it. Idk.
I enjoyed the side characters, but not sure if I want to read the other books or not... although if dad gets a story I definitely want to read that one lol
I started this series and read all 3 books in one week. I was in tears and laughing in all of the books. The books have a great storyline that is not far fetched and realistic. The characters is living daily normal lives all off us do and that is why the books are so great. Thank you for a great series. I am just wondering about Cruz?? A book coming out for him soon?
The trials and tribulations that Chloe goes through in this book are just heart wrenching. From 3 great friends to an abusive husband to starting all over with a new love this book has it all. I laughed I cried and I rejoiced with this story. It may have triggers for some but I would highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed getting to know chloe and kip. My heart broke for them as they both endured a tough life. I was cheering for kip and chloe to heal one another and get their fairytale ending. I was sad to see the series end. It was great catching up with zane and Rhett.
This series addresses the none too often experienced subject of domestic abuse. Being a survivor, I found this to be empowering and gives hope to women who have suffered the tragedies of it. To all the survivors, We Win!
I love this book!! It is heartbreaking but also heartwarming. Kip and Chloe meet when she is at the lowest point of her life. With the love of each other and their wonderful friends, they find their places in life.
After reading Dirty and Filthy, books one and two in this series, I truly didn't think a man in any fictional world could possibly affect me the way Zane and Rhett did. Boy, was I wrong! Kip is so broken and so damaged and so flipping sexy! Then there are the leading ladies of the series. Ava, Darby and Chloe. Each coming from a pretty crappy family, and each telling their own completely gut-wrenching story of pain and finding themselves. I cried for and rooted these characters on. I hurt with them and celebrated their victories all the way to the end. In Scandal old friends play a huge role, letting us catch up with Ava, Zane, Darby, Rhett, and little Charlie. The bonds they have and the strength they give each other is so heart warming, and inspiring. I actually had to wait several days to write a review because I was so hung over from this series. Between the beautifully broken characters and the completely enthralling stories they tell, this series is in my top reads from 2016.
