This is a Prequel to the Evergreen Series. The love story of a warlock and his wolf. Banished from Fallon Castle by her father, Kayleigh moves from place to place as she tries to keep her wolf a secret. During an accidental meeting, Gautier discovers her secret and realizes she is his destiny. However, a witch feels betrayed and will do anything to keep them apart, even if it means starting a war that will change everything she loves. Will a spell be strong enough to keep them apart?
Joann Herley is an author of Fantasy, Paranormal, and Little Curiosities.
She lives in Southern Nevada. She retired after thirty-five years from a major aerospace company and has more time for walks, football, and books. She enjoys reading and loves sharing books with her grandchildren.
She has created her own imaginary magical kingdom full of mysterious characters and would like to share them with you.
Kaleigh was banished from her home when her parents discovered she was a wolf, she spent years trying to hide what she was while being happy. When Gautier gives the young Kaleigh a ride he realizes she is his mate but a young witch has always thought Gautier was hers and when she finds out he isn’t, Velsa rains a war down that threatens to destroy everything and everyone. Very fast moving filled with a little bit of every fantasy you can imagine.
While fantasy is not a genre that I typically read, I will try to do this book justice. It is of course, a fantasy, filled with witches, warlocks and wolves. The story is told in alternating voices but seemed to jump around a bit. Therefore, I was not a fan of the flow of the story. The characters were well developed. There is adventure and a good love story between the wolf and the warlock, much to the dismay of the witch. It would be a good read for those who enjoy a good fantasy ride. It made me feel a little young, so maybe I am just too old for this genre. I feel the author did a good job with her writing other than the flow. I like a continuous flow, so I guess it threw me off a little. I received this book in exchange for consideration to review it.
Gautier has been with Velsa for a couple of decades. She wants him to mate with her but he has not had the feelings for her of a fated mate. Kayleigh has been banished from her fathers castle because she was attacked by a wolf and turned into a shifter. Gautier meets Kayleigh and knows she is the one. He tells Velsa to leave and never return because he feels no less vet for her. Kayleigh and Gautier become engaged and get married. Velsa has turned to black magic and all hell breaks loose. I could not stop reading this book until it ended.
Gautier and Kayleigh. The magic of their love couldn't even be destroyed by hatred or lifetimes apart. A couple favorite parts for me. Are the stories about the fairies and the isle of tears and the butterfly that will take you into a dream world. I would recommend reading the whole series.
The prequeal to the Evergreen series explains how Gautier meets Kayleigh and shows why Velsa starts practicing dark magic. In this book we learn how and when Gautier learns that exiled Kayleigh is the one. I love all these rich and well defined characters and how alive Ms. Herley makes the environment in which they live come alive. She has such a well defined writing style you can't help but fall in love with everyone. This book has something for everyone. Love, betrayal, heart ache, and new and old friends coming together to work for a common goal. You will not be disappointed with this book.
Another spell-binding fantasy that hooked me from the start and then kept me glued to my seat not wanting to stop whenever I had to! "Trapped Alone" is a unique must read & the prequel to the fantastic world of the Evergreen series. Great descriptions and strong, well-defined characters, adventure & romance that will keep readers engaged & turning pages! An emotional love story that tugs at the heart, while I wanted to scream at the evil interfering! I volunteered to read this without any outside influences, and highly recommend this to all adult fans of fiction!
What a fabulous book. Once I started reading I couldn't stop. The Evergreen Series is absolutely the best. Trapped alone is a heart breaker with a HEA. A must read for everyone. If you haven't started the series yet, I recommend you start with Trapped Alone, prequel to the Evergreen series and then prepare to be enchanted as the story unfolds as you continue the series.
This story is about Gautier,Kayleigh and Velsa. This is before Velsa turned wicked and dark. This is by far my favorite book by JoAnn. Don't get me wrong I loved Thomas and Lady Lara's story. They had many obstacles to face too. But these two was willing to die together before they let someone take them away from each other. Gautier knew he had to break it off with Velsa, While he was out visiting Woods Village he met his mate, but she was being false with him and he knew it. After all this time he has found the one and she's a wolf. Kayleigh also thought about him and the time they had spent together. But she also had to protect her secret and hid in her cabin because she was scared that the people of the village was going to find out her secret. Gautier had to go back home before he could see her again. His brother needed him to go to Crownnail Island and pick up his bride. They had heard that aggressive griffins flew around that island. Gerwig said that's why I'm sending you to get Petula and her maidens because your a warlock. Gautier wants to be done with this so he can return home and go back to the Village and look for his mate. They ran into problems on the way getting his brothers bride. They lost one of his crew a good man, the griffins had done what they could do to protect them. Gautier knew that his brother had chosen well. Velsa was waiting for him when he got home. This is where things start to go very wrong. Gautier told Velsa not to wear Black Thistle colors to the party, but when she overheard Gerwig and Gautier talking she decided to have some fun and take some of Petula's spot light. Gautier told her that he didn't love her and he wanted her out and that he was sure that he could never love her. Then she just vanished. But she said that she would make him pay for his betrayal. The madder she got the older she started to look and she blamed all this on Gautier. Derora told Gautier since his brother has found his mate now is his time and go get his, but take it slow. When Kayleigh got home from the market Gautier was on her porch and he had left an apple earlier. Now he was holding wildflowers and he was scared that he was messing this whole thing up. He told her that he knew her secret and would never tell anyone. He also told her that he knew that she's using a fake name. He found that every minute spent apart from her was torture. Gautier took her to see the sunset and she cried when he kissed her and he ask why and she said it was so beautiful it was her first kiss. When he got back to the tavern, he knew he was being called back home. Velsa did a spell and seen who held Gautier heart. It just made her go more darker. This was bad for everyone. Astra was at the castle because she was worried about what her sister would do. When Gautier told his brother about Kayleigh he told him to bring her to the castle so they could protect her. She told him to leave, and that way Velsa would have no reason to hurt any of them. Then Velsa went to Kayleigh and told to leave Gautier alone or she would hurt everyone she loves. She wrote him a note and fled. When Gautier went back to her cottage and found the note he knew he had to follow her but he had to find a way so that Velsa couldn't track them. Kayleigh got to the Isle of Tears and everyone was so helpful but deep in her heart she knew Gautier would come for her. She was sure their was another wolf and he wanted her. When Gautier got to the island maw knew he was the man that Kayleigh was talking about and she told him where to find her. He told her then that he was never mated to Velsa she wanted it but he just couldn't do it. He was waiting for her. Gautier said that I promise that I will always come for you! He wanted to take her back home with him but she wanted to wait. He was willing to do that for her, as long as they was together. one day they had a run in with the wolf that bite her, he wanted to claim her for his own. While Gautier was fighting with him she changed into her wolf and beat it. Then she collapsed. He stayed at the foot of her bed while she cried and had nightmares, it broke his heart. When she woke up and seen that he had never left her. She decided that she couldn't live without him. She made a decision, that she can't be afraid of Velsa or what might happen. She was ready to go with Gautier back to Black Thistle Castle. When they got back they found out that their was going to be a wedding, Gautier took Kayleigh to this beautiful place behind the waterfall. That's where he proposed to her and of course she accepted. Then Velsa found out they was getting married and no one was safe. They got the witches together and got the people out of the castle. Velsa found them in their room, and they still wouldn't surrender to her. She lost Gautier. And she cursed them to be apart. But if you've read any of her books you know the curse is broken so they win
Ms. Herley brings you into a world of splendor, loss and love alike. Weaving a tale of inspiration and intrigue that captivates from page one. Five stars
Trapped Alone by Joann Herley 5 HAPPY/SAD TEARS STARS!!!!!
OMG, I had read the other books in the series and I was hoping there would be one of Gautier and Kayleigh. This one is it!!! YES!! YES!! YES!!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! LOVED IT!! BROUGHT ME TO TEARS!! WHAT A WONDERFULLY TOUCHING LOVE STORY!!
I don't know whether or not to tell other readers to read this before the Evergreen Series or wait till after the last book, lol. Either way YA/PNR Lovers will enjoy it immensely.
A woman who's a witch gets scorned, Velsa is her name and evilness is her game now. What could go wrong? Holy cow a lot goes wrong. eeks Velsa gives a performance that would rival the saying, Burn Baby Burn. Yet I still felt sorry for her.
Kayleigh and her beautiful white wolf has been shunned by her family, kicked out of her clan she is now alone. Will she ever find love and be accepted?
Gautier the warlock longs for a mate and he knows Velsa is not it. When he spots Kayleigh for the first time, he knows she is the one.
Will their Love Blossom? Or will the wrath of a witch scorned forever tear them apart? You just have to read this to find out, lol.
Thank you Joann Herley for giving me this opportunity to read and review this awesome book. Highly Recommended!!! Reviewer for Nook Books and More.
Exciting, action packed adventure that surprised me at my level of enjoyment. The characters were relatable and interesting. The plot was full of twists and turns that had me continuing this book until the end. At times I was sitting on the edge of my seat second guessing what was going to happen. It doesn't have a conventional happy ending, but does leave you with an unexpected happy ending. I do recommend this to readers who enjoy tales full of fantasy and a love that will last an etenity.
Trapped ALONE is the love story of Gautier and Kayleigh (warlock and wolf shifter). Fate declared them mates, but the witch Velsa had other ideas. The author allows you to watch the love grow between Gautier and Kayleigh until they are finally united in Black Thistle Castle. Furious over their marriage bond, Velsa attacks the castle and everyone in it. This is a highly emotional story. You feel the love, the pain, and the hatred. Grab this book, you will love it.
