About the author

K.R. Meera is an Indian author, who writes in Malayalam. She won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 for her short-story, Ave Maria.She has also been noted as a screenplay writer of 4 serials.
Meera was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala.She worked as a journalist in Malayala Manorama, later resigned to concentrate more on writing. She is also a well-known column-writer in Malayalam

K.R. Meera is one of the best contemporary authors who write on women's empowerment. Her female characters are all usually bold and powerful. The stories in this book are also not different and will be a good choice if you are a fan of books by her.

പരമ്പരാഗമായ കഥയെഴുത്തുകളുടെ ഒരു പൊളിച്ചെഴുതാണ് കെ. ആർ. മീരയുടെ “ആവേ മരിയ” എന്ന പുസ്തകം. പുസ്തകം വായിച്ച് കിളി പോയ അനുഭവമാണ് ഇതിലെ കഥകൾ. ഇതിലെ വരികൾക്കിടയിൽ വായനകാരനും ഒരു സ്പേസ് ഇടുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇടക്ക് മുറിഞ്ഞു പോയ എഴുത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണികൾ ഭാവനകൊണ്ട് വിളക്കിചേർക്കുവാൻ. ഒമ്പത് ചെറുകഥകളുടെ സമാഹാരമാണ് ഈ ഗ്രന്ഥം. ഇതിലെ കഥകളേക്കാൾ ഉപരി കഥാപാത്രങ്ങൾ സംസാരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. കെ ആർ മീരയുടെ തൂലികയുടെ വൈവിധ്യത ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ നിറഞ്ഞുനിൽക്കുന്നു. അരോ നിർമ്മിച്ചെടുത്ത രചനാഘടനകളുടെ കൂട്ടിനുള്ളിൽ തന്റെ തൂലികയെ അടിമപ്പെടുത്തില്ല എന്നുള്ള ഒരു എഴുത്തുകാരിയുടെ വാശി ഇതിലെ അക്ഷരങ്ങൾക്കുണ്ട്. വായന വഴിയിലോരിടത്തും ഇതിലെ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുമായി സാമ്യമുള്ള കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടിയിട്ടില്ല എന്നത് ഈ എഴുത്തുകളുടെ അതുല്യതയാണ്.

Her female characters never disappoint and we can see how a realistic yearning men can be in our social conditions which is also yes, very rare at times. Her stories make us confused and awe struck at the same time. Understand the story or not, but you can never escape the emotions in these stories. And somehow each story shows how women (including me and the author) interpret and fantasise about an ideal man/partner which is rare in reality.

All the stories were told in a very good pace. Even though Ave Maria was the story which was praised by Kendra Sahithya Academy, my favourite is Swavarga Sankatangal, in which the main protagonist was a mic-operator who set up the loudspeaker system for a seminar on women empowerment.
