Michel Thomas (born Moniek (Moshe) Kroskof, February 3, 1914 – January 8, 2005) was a polyglot linguist, language teacher, and decorated war veteran. He survived imprisonment in several different Nazi concentration camps after serving in the Maquis (World War II) of the French Resistance and worked with the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. After the war, Thomas emigrated to the United States, where he developed a language-teaching system known as the Michel Thomas Method. In 2004 he was awarded the Silver Star by the U.S. Army.
The audio version was pretty good. The format is lead by the teacher (Michel Thomas) and two students (one male and the other female). The audio was around 8 hours, and the entire time it sounded as if Thomas was eating what must have been the largest sandwich in the world. Everything he said sounded as if it were between chews. Also, the girl student caught on pretty fast, but the guy was just bad. My self-esteem was raised to new heights by comparison.
Still feel like I am missing a lot (numbers and units and nouns) but overall I am happy with the amount of speaking that I learned. It was a fun and engaging method of language learning that was so much more fun for me. As a person who always felt she wasn't good with languages, this made it approachable and it felt rewarding that not even 50% through the book, I could start recognizing simple sentence in Spanish TV
His accent was a bit difficult at first, but It was fine after an hour or so. Wonderful teacher! He seemed to really enjoy teaching which made this all the more enjoyable for me.
