In the aftermath of a deadly alien invasion, a band of survivors fights on...

For Hawk pilot Finn Erickson, flying is in the blood. Since the aliens decimated the planet, he spends most of his time flying Hell Squad into combat. With communication to other survivor bases cut off, he has no idea if his family is still alive and feels their loss keenly. But helping to fight back sustains him, and his quadcopter is the only woman he needs. She doesn't argue with him... unlike a certain redhead who is one hell of a kisser.

Lia Murphy lost her mother and sister in the invasion. She vows never to get emotionally involved with anyone again, and as head of the drone team, she's always busy with work. But one cocky, arrogant pilot pushes all her buttons. When Finn issues a challenge, - a fly-off in the flight simulator - she can't resist. However, she's not sure if she can accept what he demands as his prize if he wins... her. In his bed for one night.

But as Finn and Lia's fiery attraction heats up, so does the battle with the aliens. The pair must work together to re-establish communications with other humans and discover what the aliens are hiding in a mysterious area to the north. In the process, they will face the most dangerous alien creature yet, and be tested to their very limits...

After TEN books I am still insanely invested in these characters, this WORLD!
Thrilling, exciting, fun and sexy with tons of action and a new yet consistent plot!
It’s such a blend of new things, new operations, but all with the same goal.
End the alien attack on earth.
It’s brilliant is what it is!
Love we get a new couple every book.
Love we meet new adaptions of the aliens.
Love the people, and their community.

Interesting addition to the series and a very unexpected twist in Finn and Lia’s relationship! LOL

I’m still wandering how they will destroy the Gizzida… I really hope they’ll do it, obviously, but I cannot imagine how!

Well it's high time that Finn got his own story because the author has been tip toeing around him and what's clearly mutual attraction with Lia. It's been fun spotting them on the periphery of other stories but after 'that' kiss in Niko I just knew it had to be something special . Seeing the sparks that fly between these two as they both deliberately push each other's buttons has been entertaining to say the least but I had no idea just what a dance the author would lead this couple on!
So here we have Finn, hot shot fly boy with an itch to scratch and it's name is Lia! Lia may be in charge of the drones now but she is no slouch when it comes to flying but the ragging she gets from Finn is unbelievable . One heated night and hey no strings because both these survivors understand loss and fear the pain of loving again. However life and the war with the Gizzida is knock knock knocking at their door!
I'm not going to ruin the story but will say this couple get caught up in a very dangerous mission right in the heart of enemy territory . What I liked was the author let the couple have a little fun before everything hit the fan and I had no idea Finn had such an imaginative and playful side! Then the story really takes off at breakneck speed as this couple get tangled up in missions that would scare the bejesus out of most people . Still there's always time to regroup and grab a moment or two and that's exactly what happens but for the most part this was a high octane non stop ride that leads us quite nicely to what's coming next . Humans are reconnecting and fighting back but the Gizzida have only just begun spreading their plans and as this story ended I was be shocked to discover just how twisted things are becoming!
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

Finn and Lia were not fond of each other, but a lost bet translated that fire into a night of kinky role playing sex. The worked together and tried to fight the attraction with Finn saying some hurtful things under the influence of pain meds but it was all forgiven pretty easily then, again suddenly they're in love. Plot wise new things are happening as they try to contact other survivors, the alien kracken was just a little too OTT but still an okish read.

4 stars.

So this is flyboy Finn and drone flyer Lia's story. There's been an ongoing disagreement between the two over whether drone flying is actual flying but I think Lia proved Finn wrong.

Another exciting installment to the series, but I'm starting to look forward to the survivors kicking the aliens off the planet soon...

In this tenth book in the Hell Squad series, we finally start seeing the human survivors take the fight to the alien Gizzida, and it is awesome. Meanwhile, just as in all of the previous entries in the Hell Squad series (start with Marcusand ENJOY!) the story tells its tale of kicking alien ass and not bothering to take alien names through a hot and steamy romance between two of the survivors of the alien invasion.

Finn and Lia are both pilots, not that anyone can get Finn to admit that Lia is a pilot. It’s part of the tension between them. Finn is out in the thick of the fight with his aircraft, flying the squads, especially Hell Squad, to where they need to go, and pulling their collective asses out of the fight when things get too hot.

Think of Finn as a one-pilot equivalent of SOAR in M.L. Buchman’s Night Stalkers series. He takes the best where they need to be, and gets them home when they’ve done their job. The Squads often “bug out” under fire, and Finn and his Hawk quadcopter shoot through their enemies to bring them home.

Lia is a drone pilot. Her little spies go where humans fear to tread, and bring back precious bits of enemy intel. But as much as she loves her drones, she doesn’t risk her life with them – she does her piloting from the relative safety of the base. But her piloting is every bit as vital as Finn’s. The humans desperately need the intel her drones provide to pinpoint any enemy weaknesses. So when the aliens start jamming communication over a particular area, it doesn’t take spidey-senses to figure out that whatever is being protected is even more dangerous to the human survivors than the bad news they already know.

And the humans at the Enclave are all too aware that time is not on their side. If they are going to kick the Gizzida off Earth, they are going to need help from any and all survivor bases that have managed to hang on during the last two chaotic years. And for that, they need long-range communication.

That’s where both Finn’s and Lia’s piloting skills come in. The mission is to drop a communications booster out in the Pacific Ocean, far from shore, and far outside the operational range of the Hawks. They need an airplane. And Lia knows just where to find one – and just how to fly one.

All they need to do is steal it, fix it and fly it out from under the enemy’s noses. Or snouts. Or whatever. And play oceanic keep-away with a giant sea monster.

It’s all in a day’s work for Hell Squad.

Escape Rating A-: This one ends on a marvelous high note, which I won’t reveal. And this reader is overjoyed that the survivors are starting to seriously work towards the Gizzida’s exit from Earth – with extreme prejudice. Because up until now, all of the marvelous love stories have been forced to finish with a Happy For Now. Not because the various couples (including Finn and Lia) are in any way uncertain about their love for each other, but because the future is so uncertain. It is impossible to plan for a Happy Ever After when you are completely unsure that you, your friends or the human race itself have any kind of an “ever after” at all.

Both Lia and Finn have a lot of emotional baggage, and in this romance it’s the same brand of luggage. They both lost their families in the invasion, and have both chosen to wall themselves off emotionally rather than feel the pain of those losses. But their friendly rivalry breaks down the barrier, and they both discover that even this crazy life is sweeter when you have something and someone to live for.

Their rivalry is also a lot of fun, and reminds me of the romantic relationship in one of M.L. Buchman’s Firehawks books. His military romance and romantic suspense series are marvelous (and best sellers) so he is good company for Finn and Lia to be in.

As with all of the books in this series, the action is non-stop and the romance is meltingly hot. But a big part of my reason for reading this series is the science fiction set up – the alien invasion and its perilous aftermath. I am a very happy reader to see that overall arc take the first steps towards a righteous alien ass-kicking conclusion.

Finn Finn Finn Anna Hackett

Reviewed by SFF Dragon*

A risque bet leads from constant bickering to love and a happily ever after in this action packed sci-fi romance. Very steamy.

Have you ever watched a movie where the building tension was so great that you were on the edge of your seat with your hands over your eyes, desperate to know if the good guys got away, but with your pulse hammering and your heart in your mouth, you just couldn't bring yourself to look? Well 'Finn', the tenth book in Anna Hackett's terrific, action packed sci-fi romance series is the book version of that film and I really didn't want to put it down.

It's about two years since the alien Gizzida invaded Earth and the refugees from Blue Mountain Base have been at The Enclave, the revamped former coal mine south of Sydney for about a month. It's a tight squeeze, but everyone is adjusting to the new situation, some faster than others, and everyone is pulling together to survive and try to reclaim their planet.

Finn Erickson is a Quadcopter Pilot who fell in love with flying as a child growing up in Norway and it's been his obsession ever since. He used to be in the United Coalition Air Force, but now spends most of his time with Hell Squad when he's not having almost daily arguments with Lia Murphy, a former supersonic jet Commercial pilot and now leader of the Drone Team, about what a pilot really is. Catching Lia at the end of a training session, he decides that a competition to see who's the best is in order and proposes a bet with high stakes....

I don't want to give spoilers and ruin it for those who like their suspense, but I really couldn't believe Lia accepted such stakes, having said that, I can also understand why she did. Both Finn and Lia have painful memories from before the alien invasion, both are lonely and in need of some serious stress relief, so why not... Only things don't turn out quite the way either of them imagined when those pesky things called feelings start to get involved. Then there are added complications when a signal dead zone is investigated and communications with other groups of survivors across the planet become a priority.

Well written in the third person, this story is filled with terrific characters, horrifying aliens, new and old, situations that are action packed, explosive, deadly and had me on the edge of my seat hoping against hope that the good guys would get away. This book has lots of humour as well some serious steam leading to a happily ever after for Finn and Lia. The story continues to build on everything that has gone before and the characters evolve like old friends, which I suppose, having read the previous books, they are.

Anna Hackett is one of my all-time favourite authors and an amazing action/adventure romance story teller. I've read a lot of her books over the years, she never disappoints and this one is a very definite winner. Another amazing adventure that had me hooked from beginning to end, and I can't wait for the next one in this terrific series.

I absolutely loved it. I really wish I could give lots more that the 5 star limit and it's definitely on my list of books I'd rescue if the house was burning down.

Series: Hell Squad #10
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Finn Erickson spends his time flying Hell Squad into combat. His quadcopter is the only woman he needs, especially since she doesn’t argue with him like a certain drone pilot does. Lia Murphy lost everyone in the invasion and now refuses to get emotionally attached to anyone. Unfortunately, one cocky and arrogant pilot pushes all her buttons and makes her want more. When he issues a flight challenge with the prize being a night in his bed, she doesn’t know if she wants to win or lose.

The focus of this book is reestablishing communications with the other bases around the world. This brings Finn and Lia together as they search for a jet that will be able to drop an amplifier in the ocean. As with the rest of the series, this book was a nonstop action packed adventure filled with romance and, of course, lots of aliens.

Finn is a confident pilot who is used to being out on the front lines. His feelings for Lia have shifted and his idea of a one night stand doesn’t make them go away. Finn was a great hero and I really appreciated that he admitted his mistakes and tried to make things better. Lia is as confident as Finn in his piloting skills. I loved watching them butt heads and be snarky. It was so amusing.

Overall this was another action packed book for the series and I cannot wait to see what will happen next. Also I can’t wait to see what new kind of alien shows up.

This different perspective was refreshing in that we are still in the fight of our lives against the Alien invaders but, we are coming at them with some sexy flyboy/girl ingenuity and fortitude. Finn always seems to be that happy go lucky kind of guy in the series but, here we get to see some real depth to his character. And I love how well rounded it made him; He's a keeper. It was also very touching for him to get that last little surprise as a reward for all he endured....gave me a wee tear in me eye.
Lia is all contained efficiency with a bit of step up with some girl power moments. You can understand some of her self-containment. It does feel authentic in those moments of just let it go-ness. Throughout the story you can feel her maintain a bit of her starchiness however, you see her accept this new world/new life and the need to embrace the life they now find themselves in.
Nice addition to the series......and I read on!

FINN, #10 is a fast moving, hope-filled dystopian novel with a lot of action, suspense, plenty of Steamy scenes of intimacy and a HFN (dystopian)/HEA. I purchased and listened to the audio version nicely read by Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook.

MY RATING GUIDE: 3.5-4 Stars. I am enjoying this series
1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= This was okay/cute; 3.5= I ENJOYED THIS; 4= I LIKED THIS A LOT; 5= I Loved it, it was great! (I seldom give 5 Stars).

FINN, #10 ~
About two years after the alien invasion and 1 month after moving from the Blue Mountain military site to the secret Enclave south of Sydney.

Previously a cocky Coalition Air Force pilot, since the alien invasion MMC Finn Eriksson has been lead quad-copter pilot flying the squads to/from battle, often times under heavy fire. FMC Lia is auburn-red haired and before the alien invasion was an experienced Super Sonic Commercial Pilot. For the past 2 yrs Lia has been heading Blue Mountain Base’s drone program, providing necessary Intell for the squads on the ground and the quad-copter pilots flying various missions against the alien attacks.

In FINN, Finn and Lia run several Hawk quad-copter recon runs into enemy territory. Lia has Intell regarding an aircraft located within enemy territory that might allow the survivors to communicate globally with other surviving bases - if they can access the aircraft and use it to position their underwater “amplifier.” So Finn and Lia accept the dangerous missions nearly dying while accomplishing their goals.

Comments ~
1) I enjoyed the suspense and action scenes in FINN which starts off pretty fast. The characters (Finn & Lia) know each other well and when put into a Proximity-Danger situation, the sparks fly rather quickly. The latter books in the Hell Squad series almost remind me of serials in a mini-series or individual episodes in a television series - which doesn’t have to be a bad thing - just advising readers the whole story arc is slow (and building in tension) through to the end of the series.
2) Both Finn and Lia were characters I could understand and like. It was easy to want them to survive the various attacks and gain their well deserved HEA/HFN (dystopian).
3) FINN is a dystopian novel. Readers who are willing to let go of reality, logical thinking, scientific facts and just settle in for the ride will find the most enjoyment in this series.
4) The Hell Squad books are very fast reading (FINN was a 3.5hr audio at my listening speed), great for a few hours of escape or to decompress after work. I am finding the story arc a captivating journey.
5) Although FINN might be read as a standalone title, I really don’t recommend it at this point. FINN is the 10th book in a 20 bk series with an ongoing story arc. A lot of continuity and character development will be missed starting with FINN. I prefer reading Anna Hackett’s series starting with book one and continuing through the series in order.
6) I thought the reading by Kafer and Cook was well done. They were challenged with various accents (Russian and English), as well as the intimacy scenes, which must have been fun for them. ;) (I purchased nearly the entire audio series when they went on Sale).
7) Overall, I am enjoying this series and recommend it to readers who enjoy:
*Action/Adventure novels (and are okay with a number of detailed steamy intimacy scenes).
*Dystopian Romance novels (and above).
*Escape fiction, such as Fantasy and Space Opera (and above).
*Quick reading romance novels to insert between other genres and tropes (and are okay with light dystopian settings and steamy scenes).
*Imperfect alpha-type male characters who commit 100%+ to the woman they love and appreciate complicated, authentic, resilient women

READER CAUTION ~
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. An intimacy scene begins early in the book. The characters know each other from previous episodes.
VIOLENCE - Yes. Think a dystopian world with marauding alien.

Ten books into this series and things continue to heat up. Both between the couples AND the survivors' fight to win back their planet from the Gizzida.

Between you and me, Finn and Lia are definitely doing the steamy things right. They snipe at each other. They worry about one another. They spend some quality sexy time once they get over their issues.

Of course, getting over those issues does take a while. You know how it is. In the aftermath of an alien invasion, people sometimes guard their heart closely so they don't have to deal with the fallout when VERY BAD THINGS happen. As they tend to do. Both Finn and Lia have to come to terms with whether or not their romance is worth it. A few close calls and some soul searching puts them on the right path, though.

Like I mentioned above, a few new developments (some good, some not-so-good) in the survivors' race to take back the planet were revealed. THINGS feel like they're happening. THINGS. (And, man, I kinda dig those Berserkers. Which has nothing to do what I was talking about except they make me grin. I can't wait for their stories!)

Anywho. I'm ready for Dev's book. FOR REASONS.

Hawk pilot leader Finn Erickson isn’t certain his family survived the invasion; drone leader Lia Murphy knows hers did not and the only people that make that loneliness seem less is each other. Action adjacent, sniping at each other in previous outings until the kiss they couldn’t deny (Niko)that detonated their ‘I don’t care facades. A night together kicks all their barriers down but Finn’s determined not to get attached but Lia is helplessly all in.

Finn takes a dangerous solo mission to get data on the Grizzada drone jammers makes Finn crash his Hawk. With the following explosion, the team notes Lia’s reaction is more than worry for a colleague as she screeches for Hell Squad to search for Finn. A badly burned Finn with memory issues is retrieved, Lia’s glued to his side until he forces her away as garbled, disastrous news from another base reaches them. Finn volunteers to investigate, Lia assigns herself as co-pilot. On mission, they have to hide to evade a rash of Gizzida heat seeking missiles and are chased by raptors on land0p.

Action on every page
Finn Erickson is an unbelievably skilled Hawk Quadcopter pilot. He flies in and out of impossible situations, delivering and picking up the Hell Squad team. Finn is a loner who wants no relationships, but Lia Murphy intrigues him. She’s annoying but also sexy. Lia is the leader of the drone team. Because of her vast experience piloting many types of vehicles, she has the magic touch for piloting her drones.
Hell Squad has evolved from “fighting to keep people alive” to “how can we get rid of every… last… alien… Gizzida”. The missions are more aimed at this endeavor. The current vital mission is for Noah to create a secret long-range booster so the human bases around the world can communicate and coordinate. It needs to be delivered to a secret hidden place, like far out in the ocean, and that calls for super pilots like Lia and Finn.
I love the hard-working, brave people who are fighting for Earth and humanity. So many have found love in this series, and that’s just what happens with Finn and Lia. They understand each other and have a real connection. And they are combustible when they touch. “Finn” is filled with on-the-edge-of-your-seat action and suspense. I loved rereading this story. Absolute thrilling read

Will Finn and Kia get their happy ever after in this exciting read. The humans are in serious trouble. The aliens are building a doomsday machine which will spell soon for the human race. The people of Enclave have to communicate with other human survivors around the world to pull resources and especially knowledge. Kia and Finn will need to take and place a special communication amplifier in the Pacific Ocean in order to achieve this.. It's a suicide mission and you will be in the edge of your seat to see if they succeed with aliens, sea monsters and other monstrous machines that the aliens have created. A fabulous read!

This was definitely one of the better books in this series. I really gave a love-hate relationship with this series. I know these are short, but sometimes I get a little bored and wish they were shorter. I really don't know how I could be bored when there is so much going on...I can't pit my finger on it. Maybe, they're too short and I don't get to know the characters enough to care and that creates the boredom. Idk!

If you asked me if I want to read a sexy sci-fi/dystopian series with strong Falling Skies vibes, the answer would be HELL YES! Yet somehow, this misses the mark for me.

Finn and Lia

Fun and interesting series about aliens invading Earth, and the soldiers trying to fight against them. This is book 10, which features Hawk pilot Finn and drone commander Lia. They're tasked with dropping an amplifier in the ocean to boost signals to find other hidden human encampments. Will they be successful?

Love Lia and Finn. They are so good together. There lots of heat and heart and smexy-times. Also danger and fighting large dinosaur-type aliens. Highly recommend.

Supersonic Action…

Another addictive action packed read from this author that I can’t seem to get enough of…
With suspense and hope for the enclave to reach other survivor outposts around the world, pilots Lia And Finn help with the need to ensure continuous communication so with no satellites to use they must drop an amplifier into the pacific and with danger all around and surprising twists that kept me on the edge of another hard to put down read and definitely can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Good read

Loved the outcome.. Wish there was more of that! Author has done a great job in the continuing evolution with the battle against the aliens. The romance part is pretty much the same as all the others. Lost people, don't want to get hurt again, hook up, oh I love ya , more where everyone is always good looking. Cookie cutter but the fight against the aliens make it a good read. Love how fast paced the author is. And keeps you hooked without dragging the books on with pointless repetitive thought life.

Simply brilliant

Now that was exciting. Lia and Finns friendly rivalry takes a sexy twist in this book. Both being unable to fight there attraction to each other any longer. I really enjoyed this book, it was great to see another couple come together and the explosive action that takes place is captivating.

More alien creatures, more narrow escapes and some tint victories all come together to make this one of my favourite stories so far. Simply brilliant.

Awesome book

Another fascinating and intriguing book in this amazing series. Lia and Finn fought almost all the time. The sparks were incendiary but it hid a deep attraction. Once they give in to the fire they burn hot and bright. Another risky mission puts them in perilous danger. But with the help of the other squads they make it back in one piece. Can’t wait for the next book now.

flying high

Wonderful fast paced story of how Finn and Lia fell in love. With drama, etc mixed in. Perfect amount of action, thankfully it did not make me think of skipping through any parts.

I hope the author clears up the why the aliens move to different planets. Why they are bothering to make hybrid animals. Especially ones they can not control.
As well as shy the first prisoner was able to beat control. Would be great if they can figure it out and rest could.

Hawk pilot Finn and drone pilot Lia work to figure out what the aliens have hidden in an area where the drone signals (and everything else) are scrambled. Additionally, they have to take on a mission to deliver equipment to the middle of the ocean in hopes that they can re-establish communications with the rest of the human survivors. Some tense moments and a hot love story.

Great book!

I loved the adventure in this book! It was awesome reading about all of their determination and the action packed ass kicking they are giving the raptors.

Lia & Finn were perfect together. They're both competitive and have a love for flying. So when they got together it was just hot and pure perfection.

Finn and Lia

Finn's the hot shot pilot who ferries the Hell Squads and Lia a drone operator. Their bickering masks deeper emotions. One thing I didn't understand is Finn's lack of respect for her flying ability. While she's a drone operator she was a commercial pilot before the invasion. Otherwise the book is good and follows the same formula as the others.

These two were adorable. These stories have become pretty formulaic, but that’s actually working for me. But with the pandemic and the election coming up, I only have so much brain power and energy for focusing on a book. Normally I would like to see a little bit more variety, but there’s something soothing and knowing what to expect with these each time I dive in.

The Sexy Flyboy

Finn was a much anticipated book in the series since we met this sexy, arrogant pilot in book one. He has been getting Hell Squad into and out of danger all along. Now he and Lia have to beat some terrible odds and find their fighting spirit. I love Anna Hackett’s gritty, fast paced stories. Some of the best I’ve read in this genre.

Really love this series now, 10 books in and there are still so many stories I want to read. Finn and Lia were great together, I loved their early interactions and the plot thread of their mission was compelling and tense. And the bet was delightful, I find myself blushing just thinking about it. Looking forward to more of Squad Nine getting their time to shine!
