The Treasures of St Germain - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Matt Drake and the SPEAR Team are back for a 14th adventure in David Leadbeater's Matt Drake series, that consists of taking down a megalomaniac, hell-bent on world domination through eternal life given by the eponymous necromancer's creation of the Philosopher's Stone. Slipperier than an eel in grease, he leads the Team a deadly dance throughout the world, as he seeks the clues to the next components revealed by the former's in an evil 'daisy chain'. Also on his trail are the fanatical cult followers who are determined to stop his corrupting influence on their belief that St Germain, is the cult's Ascended Master, who allegedly is still alive despite being born in the 17th century! Add to that a triple agent, suicide bombers, get-out escape plans that even the SPEARs, (under Hayden Jaye for this mission) struggle to comprehend and supernatural - or are they? - goings on that will thrill you and keep you on the edge of your set throughout...don't miss The Treasures of St Germain at any cost - it's sensational!

I think the Matt Drake series is great, however, the Saint Germain novel #14 didn't resonate with me. Not sure why? Perhaps the writing style has changed, or the subject matter is getting too fantasy-based. Again, not sure. Hopefully, the writer reverts back to the previous dozen or so action-packed novels. Otherwise, I'm all in and reading every book!
On a side note, someone else complained in a review about grammatical errors, but as far as I noticed, 95% of the 'errors' are just linguistic nuances of the English 'common as muck' dialect! I understood it, and noticed it, because I'm a Brit! Guilty as charged, common as muck and twice as smelly!!
It started quickly and continued more frantically and I became worn out by the end, i needed a rest! I say it after every Matt Drake book that it was more exciting than the rest but this one was on another level. How have none of the SPEAR team had a breakdown because they never get a break from one drama to another !! I look forward to the next saga!
I have generally liked the Matt Drake series of books. this one is by far the worst. poor storyline, confusing groupings of characters and their interplay. The "mission" itself was confusing and a foundation for same not well established. A poor example of Leadbeater's writing ability. Skip this one.
Yet another rollercoaster adventure that sees the team even more up against it. Fantastic book, can't wait for the next instalment. Knocked it out the park again David.
Action upon action upon action. A thriller that delivers with all the great Matt Drake characters along for the ride. Pure top rated entertainment. Enough said.
All books from this author as yet have been in "print" although goodreads only has them listed as "kindle" they are available in either format of all this series to date.
This is the 14th and hopefully not the last book of the Matt Drake series and the Spear team members. They have had many ups and downs and come across many evils of the world. David Leadbeater is a masterful storyteller in league with Clive Cussler himself. His books are a must read, if you enjoy action, adventure, history and the comedic banter inserted just right between the characters.
This series seems to have settled on a format where the SPEAR team chases the bad guy--in cars, trucks, boats, snow mobiles, and even on foot. This book has at least five chase scenes, in five different locations, with a tremendous amount of collateral damage. Blend in some internal conflicts within the SPEAR team itself, and a lot of things are turned upside down. In the end, is everything resolved? Maybe, maybe not...
Matt Drake & the Spear team return, hunting down the last of the Pythian's. Tyler Webb is looking for the secret of eternal life, hunted at ever turn, he manages to stay one step ahead of the Spear team & a new force wanting to protect the legend. Good book as ever from David Leadbeater, although the Spear team not a tight group as usual. This brings to an end the Pythian story line, will be good to see what new direction he takes the team in.
The SPEAR group is at it again, hunting down and trying to rid the world of those who prey upon the innocent. Fanatics are plentiful, and the team jaunts around the world in pursuit. Tough, violent and hard bitten, our heroes are still loveable. Looking forward to their next adventure. Exciting read.
Well what can I say David delivers again. A fantastic action packed chase after Webb (will they ever get him?) all over Europe particularly liked the Nu Camp section and also the boat chase so well written keep up the great work already looking forward to Alicia 3 with bated breath.
With every Spear installment it just gets better and better. With one question answered 2 more arise. This leaves me with a desire for more. This series lives with me and I can't wait for Matt Drake 15! Thank you, Dave Leadbeater.
Number 14 of the Matt Drake series is great. By the time you get to the end you are broken, twisted and bleeding but oh what a great time getting there.
This was a violent, foul-mouthed and vile piece of shallow trash. Repeats every situation over and over. Story only being used to spew the violence and filth.
