Modern-day bounty hunter Bethany Bennett helps her brother track two fugitives to a forest outside of Houston, Texas. One of my go to authors, this book was entertaining. I always love going back in time romances and this one is good. However, I thought where this book fell short was in the explanations of the time travel.

And there were some regrettable spots where I felt like I could put the book down and not worry about when I'll have a chance to read again.

4 stars!

I love Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series, and this prequel series, The Gifted Ones is an exciting, intriguing and entirely different story arc which can be read as a standalone, but still ties into the original world and its characters. It’s very cleverly done, and this book in particular has brought the two series together beautifully.

Bethany is a bounty hunter who is helping her brother track down two fugitives before everything goes wrong, and in the middle of a forest outside of Houston, Texas, Bethany finds herself in a violent and deadly gunfight. She passes out only to wake in a forest that is green and leafy, and considerably colder than the one she left, and is discovered by a group of men on horseback wearing chainmail and brandishing swords and speaking a medieval dialect taught to her by her deceased mother, who was a history professor. Confused, alone, seemingly healed from her deadly wounds and desperately worried about her brother, she accepts help from the men, led by a man declaring himself to be Lord Robert, Earl of Fosterly. Bethany initially believes herself to be in the middle of some sort of re-enactment until she is taken to Robert’s castle where she starts to think that she’s mad, until she finally comes to the realisation that she has travelled back in time to 12th Century England

Brave, strong and honourable yet with a wicked sense of humour, Robert is the brother of Dylan, from A Sorceress of His Own, and wow I loved seeing him as the hero of his own book. He was out searching for a mysterious enemy who has been attacking his lands and his people when he came across a woman wearing ‘breeches’ with all sorts of strange objects strapped to her body, and he is immediately entranced by the woman who speaks and acts so oddly. She is loud, confident and fiery and unlike any woman he has ever met, and as he takes her under his protection and welcomes her into his home, he has no idea just how much she is going to turn his world upside down.

I really love the whole ‘back in time’ concept. It merges historical with contemporary romance, but with a twist, and in a way that adds a fantastic dynamic to a relationship. Robert and Bethany are two people with very different histories, ideas and expectations who find a common thread that binds them together and just roll with it. The attraction between them is evident from the start, and they push the boundaries of what would be considered ‘proper’ back then with their bantering and their physical reactions to each other. It creates fantastic sexual tension and I loved watching each and every interplay between them.

I also loved watching the reaction that Beth evoked in Robert and his people. None of them quite know what to make of Bethany, most of the time struck dumb by her words and actions (and her need to clean everything) but she quickly wins them over with her friendly openness and enthusiasm, and as Robert watches his people fall in love with her, he finds that he is doing the same.

Theirs is a beautifully developing love story. It’s a slow burn as they both come to realise what they are feeling and then act on it, but it feels incredibly natural as they fall into a relationship that is fun, all-consuming and incredibly passionate. Even being a medieval knight, Robert has very progressive ideas about women - he respects Bethany and their relationship is a true partnership, and when she opens up to him about the truth, he believes her.

But the life they so desperately want together is fraught with uncertainty – how did Bethany get back to the past? Will she be returned to her own time, or will she be allowed to remain with Robert? And if given the choice, which would she choose? And who was the mysterious robed man that Bethany saw shortly before she passed out in that forest back in Texas?

The mystery of not knowing how the story was going to end up adds a wonderful sense of angst and desperation to the romance as Robert and Beth take all that they can get from each day with each other, not knowing if it will all be taken away from them. And as the book approached its climax, I was desperate trying to figure out how it was all going to work out. But leave it to Duvall to deliver an ending that was absolutely perfect. It was funny, sweet, heartfelt and so, so beautiful, and I loved how it all played out.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a wonderful story and a great addition to The Gifted Ones series. Dylan and Alyssa both make an appearance, as does Seth, and I LOVED the added tie in to the Immortal Guardians series as we got to meet a young Marcus – that particular storyline was a real treat.

I listened to this as an audiobook, which was wonderfully narrated by Kristen Potter. She does a great job at capturing all of the emotion that goes along with a story like this one, and I thoroughly recommend giving this one a listen if you have the opportunity.

I loved it – 4 stars.

Yeah, this was fine. Didn't hold a candle to book 1 though so I have concerns with the progression of this series.

As usual, Dianne Duvall delivers an enchanting love story. I don’t normally like time travel stories, but this one worked for me. Nothing made me think “how does this not affect everything going forward?” That was largely due to the small number of people that end up knowing the truth and what ends up happening to Beth’s things from the future.

I loved Robert in Dillon’s book and it felt so good to see his story play out. It was incredibly neat to see the story after hearing about it from Marcus in Night Reigns from the Immortal Guardians series. I didn’t really know what to expect from Beth or from Marcus, knowing how he felt, and it was sweet and fun. Robert is very chivalrous yet teasing, and Beth is just plain willful, playful, and witty. They made an exciting couple.

I loved all the cameos and how things played out with the time travel. Beth’s discovery of what happened is about how I imagine the experience really would be. The romance was fun, sweet, and hot. The story arc regarding the threat to Robert’s land was necessary, but also a little anticlimactic. Overall though, it was such a compelling story that I couldn’t put it down.

Rendezvous with Yesterday is an endearing tale of love and family. It has it all – excitement, tears, suspense, and a little paranormal thrown in. I loved it and can’t wait for more!

I almost didn't read this one once I read the synopsis and saw the bit about time travel, but I really liked Robert from the first book, so I grudgingly gave it a chance. Don't get me wrong, I love time travel novels for the most part, but I just wasn't sure how well it would play out with a headstrong 21st century woman visiting medieval England. It worked, though. Beth is sassy and Robert was, well, just as perfect as he was in A Sorceress of His Own. I really enjoyed his story and how lovely these two characters were together. And I loved getting a bigger peek at the world of the Gifted Ones. I hadn't been sure if I would read the Immortal Guardians series because it features vampires as well as the Gifted Ones, but after seeing what Duvall has done with this book and series, I have to satisfy my curiosity. Even if she did make me cry at the end of this one.

Dianne Duvall takes us on a journey into the past unparalleled by even your local Renaissance Faire. While Beth might lack the magical abilities that we saw in Alyssa in A Sorceress of His Own, there is nothing more entertaining then watching this modern woman working her own magic in this male dominated world of the thirteenth century.

For those who are also fans of Dianne’s Immortal Guardian series, this story was a long time coming. When we first met Marcus Grayden in Night Reigns, in 2011, Marcus was still emotionally scarred 800 years later over the fact that as a young squire, he had fallen in love with his knight’s wife, a woman who had come from the future, and more particularly, a woman who he had made sure was at the exact right place at the exact right time so that she could be sent into the past. Although he mourned his unrequited love for centuries, Marcus loved both Lord Robert and Bethany and never made his feelings known.

For those of us who follow both series, how excited are we to finally get Robert, Bethany and Marcus’s background story.

Bethany is a bounty hunter and she goes with her brother, Josh, into the woods of Texas on a long-shot tip to find two wanted killers. The tips pays off but Beth and Josh do not exactly take these guys by surprise and a shoot out leaves the killers dead and Beth and her brother in bad shape. As Beth loses consciousness, she isn’t certain she is going to wake up again.

But she does awaken, completely healed and in a section of forest which is more lush and green than the one she passed out in. What is missing is the cabin, the killers and more importantly, her injured brother. Beth frantically searches the woods, fearing Josh will bleed out from his injuries before she can find him. She then comes upon four men on horseback dressed in typical knight garb of chainmail. She tries to get their help, but they refuse to speak modern English and are only speaking Middle English. Lucky for Beth, her mother was a history professor and taught her and her brother how to communicate in Middle English. She believes they are simply a very obsessive reenactment group.

Lord Robert, the Earl of Fosterly, and his knights have been searching the forest for marauders who have been preying on his people. They believe these bandits attacked Beth and her brother and offer to help her search. The longer they are with Beth, the more they note that more than just her speech is odd and they start to believe she might be a little mad. They are fascinated by her and with all of the odd objects she has with her.

Both groups know that something is not quite right, but it is once they arrive at the castle that Beth realizes just how bad the situation is for her. She knows that time travel just isn’t possible, but there it no doubt when she sees the brand new castle and village full of people, all dressed the same and speaking Middle English, that something happened to her. There is no group that dedicated to their craft they would live like they actually are in the thirteenth century. There is also the fact that she hasn’t seen one thing that points to the modern world.

This is a standard fish-out-of-water story, but the fun here is less watching Beth learn how to navigate life in the thirteen century, but watching everyone’s reaction to this woman who is more than just unconventional. She is more openly affectionate than is acceptable. She speaks oddly and is very vivacious. She has a bizarre collection of items that are fascinating. She will also be bringing a little women’s lib to Fosterly a few centuries early.

I will say that the only thing I was disappointed about was that Dianne made Beth a virgin. She did have a reasonable excuse why Beth never engaged in casual sex and why she was still a virgin. But Beth was a beautiful woman in her mid-twenties and there really was no reason that Beth could not have been given a long-time love interest before she met Robert and they could have gone their separate ways for any number of reasons. Robert was no virgin and was written to have a prior love-interest who had died some years before. I would have like to see how thirteenth centuries morality would accept twenty-first century’s more tolerant values. Would Robert have delighted in Beth’s more creative and less conservative sexuality or would he have hesitated in offering marriage to a woman who wasn’t pure when she came to him? In making Beth a virgin, Robert accepting Beth into his bed and into his life caused him no moral dilemma. I would have like to see him spend some time overcoming his regimented beliefs that his bride needed to be pure and whether his love of Beth was enough to overcome the moral dogma of the time.

Overall, this was an entertaining and simply fun story with a sweet romance.

If you’ve had the pleasure of reading Night Reigns you’ll know a little about Bethany. Marcus knew Bethany from his years at Fosterly. As a long lived Immortal Guardian he had the opportunity to spend time with her in the present, before she experienced 1203 medieval England.
Rendezvous with Yesterday is an amazing time travel romance with a small dash of sci fi/paranormal. Seth from the Immortal Guardians brings the other than human aspect to the book. Bethany’s brother Josh is doing his normal bounty hunter tacking of fugitives when he agrees to take his sister along on a job. The business partner that typically would have accompanied him was away on another job. Josh never would have taken his very capable sister along had it not been for the longshot of finding the criminals they were after. Of course nothing goes as planned and Bethany finds herself in a forest completely different than the one she and her brother were in a gunfight in.

Someone is harming the people of Fosterly and Lord Robert, Earl of Fosterly plans on finding the marauders and stopping them from doing further harm. The last thing he expects to find in the forest near his land is an oddly dressed woman, who talks even stranger, everything about her is different yet he can’t help himself from wanting to know more about her.

The lengths that Bethany goes through during her first few days at Fosterly to find proof that she is still in modern day Texas got a little annoying. Then again she had just experienced the impossible. Robert never treated Bethany as if she were crazy. Robert is a little ahead of his time (which are still far behind Bethany’s time) thanks to his sister in law Alyssa. Overall as a couple they worked. Robert is kind and playful in his attentions to Bethany. Bethany is spirited and has this knack for rolling with the punches. She seems like she could adapt to just about anything.

I absolutely love it. The story pulled me right in and I could not put it down, it was
so good I stayed up till 4am to finish it. I love a story that gets my
emotions involved, whether it makes me smile or laugh out loud or cry.
This one made me cry. It got so bad that I could not see the page or breath threw my nose.
It also makes me want to go back and read the Immortal series again.

Bethany Bennett, a bounty hunter, is with her brother in a forest outside of Houston, Texas chasing two fugitives when they are gunned down. Losing consciousness she sees her brother severely wounded and then there is a cloaked man above her. When Bethany awakens, she is covered in her own blood, but her wounds are healed. Beside her, she finds her backpack and a tent, two items she thought they left in the car. Her brother is nowhere to be found. Panicked she begins searching for him and runs into three men wearing chainmail, on horses speaking of all things Middle English. Thus begins a delightful tale as Lord Robert, Earl of Fosterly helps Bethany search for her brother and takes her back to his keep.

Rendezvous with Yesterday was such a joy on audio. Kirsten Potter narrated, and she nailed Bethany's confusion, the chemistry that develops between her and Robert as well as his men's shock and awe at this odd little woman! I laughed so hard at times; I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Just imagine a gun-wielding modern woman clad in jeans who is shocked at discovering she is in a medieval keep. It was a difficult transition, and we shared in her vulnerability.

The chemistry and banter between Bethany and Robert was perhaps my favorite part of the story. The romance was slow-building, and Duvall delivered hilarious moments that turned heated making me grin in merriment. The romance had sweet and touching moments that pulled at my heartstrings. Since Bethany time traveled, we weren't all that certain if she would pop back or perhaps choose to go home. These elements added a little sadness and tension, but leave it to Duvall to deliver an ending that satisfied.

We learned some interesting things in Rendezvous with Yesterday, and boy am I eager to find out more! While this is part of a series, I see no reason why anyone cannot grab their earbuds and listen. Dianne Duvall is a master storyteller and does an excellent job of presenting the overall arc while giving each book a full romance.

I HATE that I took so long to get to this book!! It was fabulous. And I didn't realize that it was about the girl that Marcus (from Dianne's Immortal Guardian series) was in love with basically his whole life. It makes what he did even more heartbreaking. Now obviously that was never mentioned in this book but it was cool to know some back story to the characters. And holy crap did I love the characters. I loved all the side characters but most of all Beth and Robert. They are one of my favorite couples of all time. They are everything I strive for in my own relationship. Honestly they were perfect in every way. I am beyond in love with both of them.

Short and sweet review but I think if I go on I will just end up saying "I love Beth. I love Robert. I love them as a couple. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!" So freaking fantastic book. I think it's my favorite that I have read this year!!

I don't know what it is about time travel, but I usually find those kind of stories enjoyable even if they aren't successful. However, this one is quite successful and had me smiling quite a bit while reading it.

Bethany finds herself thrust backward in time to meet the Earl of Fosterly, Robert who we met in the last book. I really liked Robert so I was happy to get his story. Plus, the man is quite swoony! He is a gentleman to Bethany in every way and also very honest and forthcoming. I really enjoyed his character even more in this book. He is a hero to his people and is also a good leader who cares deeply about everything he does. He strives to keep his lands safe and despite the medieval upbringing he is accommodating to the independent strange lass who comes across his path. Yea, you can safely say I really loved this character. :) Even those who love a bad boy will enjoy this character as he is fierce in protecting those he loves and his people.

Bethany is no shrinking violet, but she is quite innocent in much of life experiences. She has had to endure a few things in life that had made her grow up and she seems fearless. She does get scared quite often but she doesn't let it stop her and there is such strength in forging ahead despite being thrust into a world so foreign to her. Her strength feels real and also feels like someone learning about life in general. She is such a likable character and both feel right together in their romance.

The sexy scenes are quite balanced. In that I mean that they are quite hot but do not overwhelm the story. My favorite parts are actually shocking everyone by Beth hugging Robert and kissing him in public in a time where that wasn't allowed, even with married people. Robert's response to this unusual behavior was perfect and made me swoon a bit more. They were such a good couple together.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars. I really loved the romance within this one and it also held quite a bit of humor. You will smile, swoon and have a lot of fun with this addition to the series. The time travel was handled quite well and there is a scene that was cut added to the addendum at the end. I suggest you read that and if you didn't already want to read the Immortal Guardians, you will after that excerpt. I understand why it was cut, but it makes such a good case to read the other series. And speaking of which... you do not have to read that series to enjoy this one, but I do highly suggest you do for your own reading enjoyment. :D

Just a little heads up, I refer to things that happened in the previous book. I didn't mark them as spoilers.

2.5
The only word that comes to mind when describing this book is...inconsistent. It was just all over the place.
Beth, a bounty hunter from Houston, accompanies her brother (also a bounty hunter) to track down two dangerous criminals. To be as non-spoilery as possibly, let's just say things go wrong. Very wrong. When Beth finally comes to, she's in the 13th century. Enter Robert, who has recently been rewarded with an Earldom. He's of course tall, beautiful, a skilled warrior, and emotional guarded. Beth is the one to break through that and they fall madly in love (obviously).

Honestly, this book just pissed me off. SO MUCH POTENTIAL. What happened?

The romance was perfect. Robert was perfect. A little too perfect. Seriously, nothing bothered him. I would normally find fault with that, but this book had so many other problems, it needed to have a perfect romance. The romance was the only redeeming part of the book. And seeing as this is a romance novel, that counts for a lot.

Everything else was just...not good. It was ridiculous. Beth happened to speak middle English? Which meant saying "nay" instead of "no", I guess. Apparently it isn't odd that two children (Beth and her brother) use a long dead version of English as their way of speaking in code to one another. No one in Fosterly really has issues with the strange woman following their earl around wherever he goes. It's not just that she speaks a previously unheard butchered form of their language, it's that she refuses to leave Robert. Until of course after they become lovers, Robert tells her that she can make any changes to the castle that she wants. Which is just weird. As for the sex, his 13th century notions really fly out the window. Does it never occur to him that if everyone knows they are sleeping together and he neglects to state any intentions to marry her, she'll be ruined in the eyes of his people? They might respectfully not say it, but they are all thinking it. For a supposedly protective/honorable man, Robert had ZERO regard to her reputation. Which should be a thing for a 13th century nobleman. I spent a good chunk of my time reading this book saying to myself, "Really? He/she's really doing this?"

I think the book suffered a bit for not introducing enough of Beth's character before the time travel. For someone that speaks middle English, she was pretty ignorant of 13th century social etiquette. Or she just flat out refused to adhere to it. I'm not talking about the little things. But come on, I'm pretty sure she knew the basics. For example, public displays of affection. I kept thinking that even in our time she'd be considered more affectionate than most.He does mention to her a couple of times that it isn't normal for her to do these things but says he doesn't mind. Which I sort of get, that's normal in romance novels. That's what sets the heroes apart from the other men. But seriously? It was alllll the time. While it's very romantic that a 13th century earl would completely disregard the customs and societal expectations of his time for the woman he loves, it was over the top. We're not talking just a sweet kiss in front of others, but full on make out sessions. Climbing all over each other like horny 17 year olds. Get a room. In and of itself it might not be such bad thing, but heaped upon all of the other ridiculously unrealistic things in this book, it was just too much.

What bothered me the most wasn't the fact that she's so easily accepted by everyone in Fosterly. It was that one of the major conflicts of the previous book was that Dillon (Robert's brother) couldn't marry Alyssa because his people would never accept her as his wife. Most notably because she wasn't of noble birth. It took a major plot twist to allow those two to marry. And between Beth and Alyssa, Alyssa had fewer marks against her in terms of marriageability. Robert pretty much says "Don't worry, if I vouch for you, my people will totally accept you. I'll just say you're of noble birth. If they still have a problem with it, they will face my wrath!" Once again, while very romantic, I didn't buy a word of it.

And doesn't the king have to approve of the marriage? Is that not a thing? I thought that was a fairly big deal in the previous book.
And then, the time travel. I gave up trying to understand why the hell it happened. The answer was a very convoluted speech about fate and freewill. Don't try to figure it out, just let it go. The book will be much more enjoyable that way.
As critical as I am of the book, I'm not sorry I read it, just disappointed. I expected so much more. The last book really set the bar high. This book read more like a debut novel. I love her writing, this one was just a dud. Hopefully the next one will be better.

(RabidReads.com)4.5/5 Stars Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series is on my list of favorite paranormal romance/urban fantasy series. When I eventually decided to read her historical paranormal romances, I pretty much kicked myself for not reading them as soon as they came out. They are every bit as good as her Immortal Guardians, and that is saying something! I read the first one, A Sorceress of his Own, and decided to listen to this one instead. Good decision!

Bethanny Bennett is what the author terms as a modern day bounty hunter, along with her beloved brother. They end up in a shoot out with a couple of bail jumpers that have holed up in the middle of nowhere, Texas. After seeing her brother get shot, she is also shot, more than once. She should be dead, but after seeing a strange man lean over her right before she passes out, she wakes up in a different time. An ancient time of castles and moats and sword fights. Not only does she wake up, her wounds have all been healed although she still looks like she’s been in a blood bath. She is found by Sir Robert, Earl of Fosterly, and his men. She decides that they must be a reenactment group of some sort. But then why is the weather completely different, and where did her brother go, along with the bail jumpers? When she finally realizes that she is back in time, she pretty much has a private meltdown. I think that is what most people would do and I don’t like time travel romances where the main character is okay with it. What she doesn’t do is admit to the Earl when and where she is from. At least not right away.

Sir Robert was first introduced in the previous story and was a favorite character of mine from that book. He’s honorable as the day is long, treats his people well, and is really handsome. Beth comes into his world and pretty much turns it upside down. She’s a beauty, but would rather learn to sword fight than stitch a quilt. Or whatever women sewed back then. It’s not long before she has Robert and all his people eating out of her hand. She also has men hunting the countryside for her brother. Another character that shows up is Seth from the Immortal Guardians series. He was briefly in the previous book, but has a much bigger, but still peripheral role in this installment.

There is of course a lot more going on than what I have mentioned. This is both a good romance between characters that I loved, and the story of Beth learning to live without her modern day conveniences, as well as her brother. There is also plenty of intrigue and real sword fighting to fit the time period. Things back then were not always tranquil and fighting was pretty common between different factions.

Narration? I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Kirsten Potter narrate. She kept me entertained and never pulled me out of the story due to a discordant accent or voice. I would be more than happy to listen to other books that she has narrated and highly recommend her.

This was well written, as is everything Ms. Duvall writes and I enjoyed the whole book, even a bit more than the first book. And the first book was good! Maybe listening made it better for me, although I am not sure. I highly recommend this book to adult readers of paranormal romance or historical romance. It’s time travel, but it also has some special abilities that are involved as well. Fantastic read!

Adventures in Time Travelling. That about sums this up. There is no plot. There is no explanation as to why the this heroine goes back in time. And it doesn't really set up the time travel for any future ramifications. So it is a simple story of a woman who goes back in time, hangs out, and falls in love.

Bethany is helping her brother track down a bail jumper, he is a bounty hunter. There is a shootout and she gets shot. By rights she would be dead, should be dead, but to escape death a mysterious person whisks her back in time to the 11th century. Where Lord Robert is .

So Bethany with her glock, cell phone and a back pack full of 20th century gear finds herself in the middle ages. She doesn't cop to it at first but when she does she fully panics.

There is a part of the book that slogs to death before Bethany realizes she is really not in Texas anymore. It is a long ass journey out of the woods (where she comes to after being shot and whisked back) to Robert's castle. And It felt like a long ass journey. It took forever, it felt like. It also took forever for Bethany to get to the point when she finally decides she has to convince Robert she is from the future. Why wouldn't she have gone for the cell phone first?

There were a few laughable plot conveniences. For one thing, Bethany knows how to speak Middle English because her mother jut happened to be a medieval scholar who insisted on teaching her kids how to speak it. Like really? If you are gonna go through the trouble to creating a time travel plot, why not just also throw in some magic hoodoo that allows her to speak the language. It is more believable in context than a mom making her kids learn frickin' middle English and then remembering it into adulthood.

So rather fluffy and insubstantial, but a pleasant enough listen for all that.

I listened on audio and the narrator, Kirsten Potter, has always been one of my absolute favorites. I think if I had read this book in print, I probably would have put it down and not picked it up again because it wasn't holding me at one point. But she gave it some life.

"Rendezvous With Yesterday" by Dianne Duvall. Book 2 in the Gifted Ones series.

I cannot tell you how much I loved this book! Time travel, supernatural elements, humour, action packed and romance all rolled into one. The main characters of Robert and Bethany (Beth) are so cute together!

Bethany is a modern day bounty hunter. When she goes on a mission with her brother, things go wrong really fast. When Bethany thinks her life is over, she wakes up in a place she's not familiar with. But what really tops the cake is she's saved by a knight in shining armour!

Robert is the Earl of Fosterly and while on patrol of his lands he comes across a very strange woman. She's dressed strangely and doesn't speak his language but she obviously needs help. She may even be a victim of the enemy he seeks.

This book is so fun to read! I couldn't put it down. The story moves quickly and gets your attention right away. Great chemistry between Robert and Beth. Love the teasing sexual tension between them. Easy to read with well articulated descriptions really letting you picture what is on the page. All of the characters are very likable.

This series is connected to Ms. Duvall's Immortal Guardians series and it was really interesting to see characters from that series show up in this series as well. But if you haven't read the Immortal Guardians series, that's ok; you don't need to to enjoy this series as this series takes place before the Immortal Guardians series takes place time wise. This book also works as a stand alone if you missed the first book "A Sorceress of His Own." But I recommend reading the first book because you get familiarized with all the characters.

I loved this book and I cannot wait to read the next one!

In Rendezvous with Yesterday, Dianne Duvall paints a brilliant picture of the differences of modern life and medieval England by blending her Gifted Ones series with her Immortal Guardians series and to do so, she only needed a splash of time travel dabbed with a little immortality.

Bethany Bennett is a modern woman who has a normal obsession with her cell phone and a not so normal one for guns. But the guns are important to her work in the family business as a bounty hunter. In a day that will change how Bethany views the world (and history), Bethany goes with her brother on what should be a long-shot tip to apprehend two wanted killers. From the moment they step into the forest, everything goes wrong and Bethany is left fighting for her life. She is losing a great deal of blood and as she loses consciousness, she isn’t sure if this is the end. What she doesn’t realize is that when she wakes up she is no longer in modern day Texas, but in the forest of England in the year 1203.

In Rendezvous, the 21st century and the 13th century collide. Can a woman out of time earn the love of a medieval knight, and make a life without cell phones, mocha lattes, and modern plumbing?

4.5 audio and story. I will admit I'm very bias when it comes to DD's works. I absolutely loved that she took one of the better backstories and made it a story that could stand on it's own. Bethany is the object of Marcus' unrequited love, literally falling in love with a time traveler in his teens beginning of the 13th century and he waited 800 years for her to appear back in the 21st century. It was a great back story as to why Marcus was pretty messed up when we first met him in book 1 and was further explained in book 2 of the Immortal Guardian series.

Well Bethany and Lord Robert (Marcus had been Lord Robert's squire) was excellent, just as good as the first three novels of the Immortal Guardian series. I'm actually one that is grateful for the new series because it tends so far to be set in the middle ages where Marcus and Roland hail from (my faves are definitely Roland, Marcus and Bastien). Great stuff... enjoyed it. I think it stands well on it's own but as fans of the Immortal Guardian series those readers will get further pleasure from it.

Enjoy

Finally!!!! I was really excited to read this book, first because I loved Robert in Dillon and Alyssa's story and, two, because I love time travel. This one did not disappoint!!!
A very intense start, fight to death and dive into the Middle Age, Beth is thrown into an unknown world where she adapts surprisingly well but keep her very unique personality. Robert was kind of the perfect gentleman/knight/prince charming. Maybe a bit too nice and perfect at times but that's being picky haha.
The story line could have used some more suspens and surprises but it still was a great read.
Anyway, I loved the book and finished it in one go. I really look forward for more!!!

I was kind of teetering between 3 and 4 stars with this one... although I loved the beginning, I did not love the end. I kinda assumed the book was going going somewhere... I get that questions were answered but I did not think there was a climax... at all. I kept waiting for the danger or the excitement to hit but it never came... The girls never came!!! (Brownie point to you if you get the reference 😉) anyways the first one was way better. I may the immortals series as well but I think those are set in modern times, and I don’t think it will be as interesting honestly.

DNF. Spoilers below.

Incompetent bounty hunter is sucked back in time where for no reason whatsoever and despite her rude and incomprehensible behaviour, inability to speak the language and alien clothing, not only do a group of knights treat her as a respectable noble lady, a desirable caring powerful rich man wants her body and soul immediately. Upon arrival back at hunky noble knight's home she suddenly morphs into a valuable healer despite no training or knowledge at all. Ridiculous

The Gifted Ones series is a prequel series (though written after The Immortal Guardians series) that features some of the guardians earlier existence before they became guardians.

Bethany is a bounty hunter who got transported back in time from the 21sr Century Houston Texas to the 12th Century London.

She is found by Lord Robert, the earl of Fosterly and TBR began their journey together. I didn’t quite get the time travel mechanisms but since Seth was involved, I knew it would be okay.

Robert was noble and honorable just as Bethany was a brave and strong woman. They were a good match in Intelligence as well as compassion for others. Their chemistry was definitely undeniable. This was a little similar to how i felt with Claire and Jamie in Outlander.

This book featured Marcus and Seth as side characters but i found this installment just as good as book 1.

This was a very good story. I liked both Bethany and Robert and enjoyed seeing how they got together. This story has been coming for a while because of Marcus (the hero from Night Reigns) being part of it and his attachment to Bethany...but, I don't think you need to read Marcus' story to understand this one, just know that there's more going on with Marcus that can be explained in the main series.

Bethany is a bounty hunter that lived in Texas in our time. She and her brother, Josh, lost both of their parents and now they're very close. Bethany has never been involved with anyone seriously and focuses on her job, her brother and her friends.

Lord Robert, Earl of Fosterly, is the brother to Dillon, the hero from A Sorceress of His Own. Robert is a good Lord to his people (in the early 1200s) and seeks only to give them a good life and protect them from any threat. Robert was married when he was young but lost his wife and child and made no effort to remarry.

Bethany is on a bounty hunter job with Josh but some things go wrong and she's hurt badly. Josh is also shot and she thinks things are going to go badly for both of them and then loses consciousness. When Bethany wakes up, her wounds are gone, leaving drying blood and scars in their place. She doesn't recognize the woods she's in and can't find Josh anywhere so she's freaked with good reason. Bethany is found by four men dressed in armor and riding horses and she's determined that they have to be reenactors that are fanatic in their attention to detail and sticking with their story. The leader of the men, Robert, tries to help her but they have problems understanding each other, 1. because they're speaking middle English vs modern English and 2. Bethany is talking about things that have no translation...like cars and cell phones and the police...

The men search for Josh but have no luck so they take Bethany back to their keep (castle). This just about tips Bethany over the edge because she's not willing to believe that she somehow traveled in time but the physical proof is mounting and impossible to ignore. It takes Bethany some time to get past her disbelief and all that but she does. It's helped by the fact that Robert has to go out to fight some mercenaries that someone has been sending on to his lands for unknown reasons. Bethany is worried for Robert and realizes that she's falling for him. Since she doesn't know how she got to the past or if she'll be sent back to the future at any time, she's a bit reluctant to get involved but after him being in danger, she also doesn't want to deny her feelings. Robert knows there's something strange about Bethany but he doesn't care, willing to accept whatever her secrets are to be with her. Her secrets end up being more than he imagined but Bethany and Robert do figure out what happened to her and how to be together so they end things with a very nice HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Bethany...she was a smart and realistic woman and my only complaint about her was that (IMO) it took her too long to accept time-travel (but maybe I just read too many PNR books that make me open to the unexpected). LOL. Robert was a great hero and a sweet guy. Overall, the story and characters were good and kept me engaged in the story. I'd recommend it. :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a very good job.
