In her latest Hunt for Reacher novel, Diane Capri adds a new layer to the ongoing chase scenario that keeps the protagonists one small step behind their intended target. FBI Special Agents Gaspar and Otto continue their search for Jack Reacher, sent to Houston to follow-up on another lead. It appears that former DEA and ATF Agent Susan Duffy has been seen with Reacher over the past three weeks and might be able to shed some light on his whereabouts, or reveal his location, inadvertently. While in Houston, Gaspar and Otto learn that Duffy is on indeterminate leave and no one is willing to share anything concrete with them. Duffy's apartment appears to have been emptied and her most recent partner is also highly defensive when it comes to sharing anything. Upon learning that she might have returned to Abbott Cove, a small community in Maine, Gaspar and Otto rush across the country in order to follow a trace that might lead to Reacher or provide some concrete leads. Within the confines of a large compound in the Abbott Cove area, a man by the name of the Diplomat is entertaining a number of rich men whose criminal capabilities are piqued by a new weapon on the market; one that can obliterate from such a distance that it is virtually undetectable. While following up leads in Abbot Cove, Gaspar and Otto learn that Duffy might be in the area, though she has gone missing after trying to locate another of her colleagues. All signs point to the aforementioned compound, where rumour has it women were being kept for an international human trafficking ring. The collective who seek to find and free Duffy must work together to remove her from harm's way, which might permit essential clues about the whereabouts of the ever-elusive Jack Reacher. All this while the Diplomat seeks to sell his most lucrative weapon to date to the highest bidder and keep his trafficking ring intact. Succinct but full of drama, Capri knows how to lure the reader in and keep them interested until the next cliffhanger.

This series has always been an interesting one for me, as I am an avid Jack Reacher fan. While Capri's series is concentrated in a very small window of time and each books feeds immediately after the end of its predecessor, the stories remain fresh and highly entertaining. With plots that focus on finding Reacher, things generally spiral from the intended mission and a new mystery emerges. Using a few central characters and an ever-changing collection of those in a supporting role (a la each Reacher tale), Capri is able to keep the reader interested and curious about what is yet to come. Gaspar and Otto have grown in the short chronological period of the novels, with Capri adding new layers to keep the reader connected to them during each mission. I remain interested in the evolution of the series, though the nomadic Reacher character proves to be my greatest interest.

Kudos, Madam Capri for a sensible addition to the series. Even if Reacher remains one step ahead, you are able to develop your characters effectively.

This one had a few new layers and you were rather misdirected at the beginning, IMHO. Which made the copy more interesting and not as repetitive in nature as these hunting for Reacher books actually are. Otto and Gaspar had several action sequences that were dangerous, deadly, and although with others as a team- particularly facing weird and strange unknowns. Almost the kind that would have been right at home in a James Bond movie.

Although seemingly far fetched in the enterprise that was being conducted, the Maine location was better than average.

These are candy reads and not high literature in any sense, nor does Reacher seem often present or near. But this time, I think he most probably was.

They are meant to be read farther apart too, just my opinion, then I am reading them. With little to peruse I was able to download 4 library reads all together- or I would prefer to have spread them apart. They are so repetitive with cutesy partner travel criteria etc. that I do know a goodly portion of pure thriller or action readers will find them boring. Despite the body counts. But I do not.

I am super glad the next one is not in November and Gaspar's son is born. A new setting and time is desperately needed. Now I have 7 or 8 other genre or books that I will read before another of these. Hope we get to see Otto's Detroit more.

Enjoyable yet repetitive

These books are enjoyable, yet becoming awfully repetitive. They drive. Files are uploaded and downloaded. He limps. She pops antacids. He calls her Susie Wong. She checks her Seiko. The Boss is watching. Reacher is, well, just out of reach. Time and again. And again. And then again.

I have enjoyed this series, but as it drags on, I am quickly losing interest. It is pretty clear we are never going to put Reacher together with these two FBI agents, their boss is using them, and it's hard to fathom why the agents continue. Car payments? The story will hold your interest, but I kept checking to see how many pages were left of the book.

Otto and Gaspar follow Susan Duffy (DEA-ATF) to Maine for a new Reacher adventure. They finally persuade Duffy to spill some tales but the journey continues.

Good read showing the world around jack reacher

This book is a great addition to the world around Jack Reacher. It brings new characters into the storyline along with those in the Reacher books. A great read while waiting for the next Jack Reacher book

Always something new out of Africa. This time it is parasitic literature. This isn't even fan fiction (which would be Jack Reacher stories not written by Lee Child). Instead it is characters in the Reacher world looking for Jack. But, of course, they can't find him or interact with him because of copyright! Amazingly Lee Child has written some positive blurbs for this series but I'm really struggling to believe that anyone who appreciates Jack Reacher would get anything out of it. Because I am such a Jack Reacher fan, this is my second attempt at one of these books but I'm definitely giving up now. What in Lee Child is a taut laconic style (filtered through an excellent character), here the result is just banal and rudimentary writing. Despite "sprinkle details" (like those bits of fake ancient farming gear you can buy by the yard for theme pubs) Otto and Gaspar are pretty much cyphers. The plot is also heavily (and unnaturally) constrained by the need _not_ to find Jack Reacher. I really wish I could be more positive (since I sympathise very much with Jack Reacher fans who want more to read) but unless you are truly desperate, I would give these a miss. On the other hand, it isn't just me. It is probably a hint that something with such a large potential readership is self published (although to be scrupulously fair maybe a standard publisher would somehow be at risk on copyright grounds.)

If you've never tried any of the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child, you need to read at least one before you tackle this series because this is all about the "other side" of the equation, the law enforcement folks who think they need to apprehend Reacher because he's such a horrible person, a desperately wanted man. Well...our FBI Special Agents, Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar have learned a few things by the time we get to this seventh book and they've picked up a little help along the way from other interested parties but they haven't yet caught the man. Will they this time when they head for Houston? Hmm...if you know Jack, you know their chances are on the slim side but will they at least get close?

This is an intriguing, entertaining companion to the Jack Reacher series and, yes, Lee Child himself speaks highly of it. Oh, and before you think these must be the most incompetent agents ever if they've been chasing him through seven books, think again. Try it, you'll like it ;-)

Love this series almost as much as I love Jack!

Otto and Gaspar are once again a few steps behind the 8 Ball on their quest to build a file on the ephemeral Jack Reacher. Once again, they are following in Jack's footsteps at the behest of their boss who points them in certain directions, mysteriously keeps track of their progress, but never gives them the whole story. That story, they are slowly piecing together by themselves, as they meet other people whose lives have intersected with Jack's, and been profoundly impacted by him, somewhere along the line. These stories are standalone, complete in and of themselves. If you've never read the Lee Child books, that's okay. You will still enjoy the main characters in the Capri books, and their hunt for their elusive quarry! If you "do know Jack," even better!

All Jack Reacher books I’ve read requires you disengage your your view of reality to enjoy the books. Serendipitous situations and impossible to fathom coincidences force you to do so. This book takes a step further along the path of unreality. The author is writing about what the mythical Jack Reacher might do in in some incredibly contrived situation. It sort of worked for me. The writing was good, but the plot was something that might exist in a universe of someone in a drug induced hallucination. This book was the highest rated book in the series by this author. I don’t think I’d be interested in reading another. Incidentally, the author of this book is not the original author of the Jack Reacher novels. I suppose she is someone who got permission from the original author to write sequels.

Although I somewhat enjoyed the first 3 books, I can't do this anymore. I am stopping at this book. The whole premise is intriguing and writing is good, but I just can't stand how the plot is forceable progressed by sending two mid-level FBI agents across the country wasting thousands of tax payers money and wasting valuable time. I sure hope this is not how FBI works in real life, sending agents on a mission without telling them why they are being sent there and what they are suppose to do. This is the plot device used in every single novel and short story so far. This is beyond stupid and annoys me so much I just can't read any more of this series. Sorry.

Reacher but not

This is the second book in this series that I've read. This series piggy backs on the Lee Child series of Jack Reacher books. While this was a good story, well told with well developed characters, I think the author depends too much on the original story by Child. The author uses the same mansion, and the same law enforcement officers, using the same motivations. The villain is new but the crime is similar. This author is a very capable writer who should be able to produce work without using Lee Child as a crutch. BTW, for those Reacher fans looking for more Jack Reacher, you won't find him in this book.

2 days the timeline reads. It's really a little over 1. Downloaded the ebook Thur nite, didn't start reading until Friday morning.

GOOD read. Bringing together a host of previous characters (as is the trope) and a return to Abbot Cape.

Crazy to think that the WHOLE TIME, I thought Reacher was in the gatehouse. He was present, but not in that capacity and Otto and Gaspar *just miss* the chance to finally meet up with him.

Duffy is the tipping point, at least for Otto. I believe she's now got Otto on the right line of thinking about who and what Reacher is about.

Capri is doing good things.

I didn't like this as much as I did the other Otto & Gaspar books. I'd just read Persuasion as Capri recommends, only to find she inexplicably changed Villanueva's name from Terry to Tony. The ending of this book felt really contrived and way too easy, as if she was rushing it. Also, the Abbot Cape House was a much better "character"under Lee Child's pen. An OK read, but not as good as the earlier ones in the series.

Great read, well written with good pacing. Special Agents Otto & Gaspar revisit the site of a Reacher adventure Persuader during Thanksgiving. The has all the same protagonists from the original novel. The antagonist is a Russian diplomat, who is actually a weapons dealer, and is trying to sell a missle system that can destroy targets remotely & in secret. This occurs at the same encampment from Persuader only this time there's there's a crippling snowstorm adding to the mayhem.

I enjoy Agents Otto and Gaspar and their hunt for Reacher, and revisiting scenes and characters from Lee Child's great series. While this book offered more satisfaction for Otto and Gaspar and their mission, some parts of the plot were pretty clunky and broke the story's spell. It was still a fun read, though.

I have now read seven of the stories in Diane Capri’s Hunt for Reacher series. And this one was another solid 5/5 stars. This one relates to people and events from Persuader by Lee Child. At the beginning we are given a cast of characters. I have started playing much closer attention to this list as we begin a story. The list this time is:

Kim L. Otto
Carlos M. Gaspar

Charles Cooper
Lamont Finlay

Alex Branch
Susan Duffy
Theresa Justice
Terry Villanueva

Leo Abrams
Viktor Sokol

and
Jack Reacher

Some characters are primary to the story, some are encountered via reference, phone call, emails or just passing indication. And some seem elusive, especially Jack Reacher himself. Persuader was not one of my favorite books. It was much darker and more violent than most of the others. But returning to the characters and seeing where they are now is one of the best parts of this series. And occasionally we get to meet some more new and interesting characters.

In some ways this story is nearly as dark as Persuader. In this volume Agents Otto and Gaspar decide to turn up the heat. They head to Houston to confront ATF agent Susan Duffy. But she is not there, and the circumstances are suspicious. Soon The agents and Duffy’s former partner, Alex Branch are heading in her direction. They soon team up and realize that the house by the sea is being used for some pretty terrible purposes again. But without Reacher, with limited supplies and even less chance of backup can the pull off a rescue?

This was the seventh of Diane Capri’s Jack books that I have read. And with each one I appreciate the series more. It is amazing the adventure that Otto and Gaspar have had in 28 days. I was hooked after reading the first story in this series and know I will be reading them all. And so far, they have not let me down. I am trying to pace myself to just a book a week, but it is so hard to not pick up the next volume as soon as I finish one. I have already picked up the eBooks for all that are currently available, and have Prepper Jack on my wish list for once it releases. And plan on reviewing one a week until I have reviewed them all. In the six months before reading this series I read 29 Jack Reacher Novels and short stories by Lee Child. And these books tie in so nicely.

This is a great book and series. For fans of the Reacher books, or movies. Or for anyone who enjoys a good mystery/Crime literature read. One of the best in the series.

This is the first book that I have read in the series, and even though it says you don’t have to read them in order, I feel like I’m missing out as to the reason why there’s a search for Reacher. I did like the writing style and the pace of the book. I will most likely read more of these in the future.

A badly written bore

The woman is a lousy writer. Her heroes are boring and unattractive. She is entirely without imagination and the book is boring. What a contrast it is to Lee Child and Jack Reacher.

I borrowed from my public library on its Overdrive app, and returned as soon as I finished so next person may borrow. There is at least one other person who is trying to read these in order as I am.
I still enjoy the series but it is predictable.

I’ve really liked Diane Capri’s Hunt for Reacher series but this book was not up to par: too many characters with no depth to them; Kim isn’t dynamic—seems to be just going along with the flow; Cooper is boring. I could go on with this but then the review would be as bad as the book.

Not Jack

Otto and Gaspar are still on the hunt for Reacher. The question is why is Cooper looking for him. What does Cooper want. Cooper and Reacher are not friends, so why. But the agents are still being sent to find Reacher.

Different from the previous six books in that there is more 'action' and less chasing ghosts. Also, Gaspar and Otto actually interact with some of their target interviewees to accomplish something important instead of flying hither and yon.

Entertaining

This book is packed with drama and intrigue. The search for Reacher continues. A arms dealer who also engages in human trafficking has gathered buyers for a demonstration of his lastest powerful missile. Adventures and explosions are the normal. Who will survive?

Cover up and enjoy

This was another solid work in Diane's hunt for Reacher series. The story telling is notched up another level, the stakes higher, the thrills more and the Reacher sightings increased, but of course unseen... unless he wants you too 😏.

Ready for the next one!

I thoroughly enjoy the Jack Reacher series about a former MP who now lives off the grid. He travels the country, but not without incident. This series is from the other side. The agents that are looking for him, even though they know very little about him.
