The alphas of planet Hexor aren’t supposed to get pregnant. Gruff mine-worker Harsen finds himself in a crisis, but it’s one that could open the door to the kind of love he never felt he deserved. An mpreg sci-fi romance by the author of Hostile Taking!

This was an interesting little story. I wasn't really sure where it was going to go in the beginning. Harsen is a very angry character. He really has every right to be. Being one of the smallest alphas, he's pretty much given up all hope of ever having a mate or a kid. Circumstances put him in the path of Kemper, a beta. Kemper after being set free from an abusive alpha, has been alone for months and is starting to think he's a bit crazy. These two come together to create a little family they both need.
I did not particularly care for Harsen for a good majority of the story. He's angry and bitter towards everybody and everything. He's rude, abrasive and doesn't like to talk. I was afraid he'd never soften. But then, he did.
I loved Kemper. Once he's rescued, he begins to realize he deserves more than the abuse he's been enduring. But living alone brings loneliness. Luckily Harsen finds him...well you could almost say unluckily. But Harsen does warm up to him and you see his softer side.
This is my first book by this author and I'll definitely be checking out more of her books. Her writing drew me in and I've seen some different and unique things she's written.
As this being the first mpreg by Yamila Abraham is was okay. I'm use to the Omega being the one that gets pregnant not Beta's and most defiantly not Alpha's.
Ms. Abraham has created a different universe that I wouldn't have a to big of a problem reading again.
I knew, going into this book, that it was a break from Yamilla's norm, but I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in this story. Both characters were brought up in such limited and confined circumstances that it felt like a relationship between two children. I also didn't quite understand how an alpha pregnancy could be high-risk, and require a hospital, yet these two were able to successfully birth the baby, without complications, using some liquor and a hunting knife.
A fascinating storyline with unique characters. Two men raised in hard times find themselves helping each other to survive and hide from their pasts. A unique mpreg tale.
This is a unique and brutal omega verse type world (there are only alphas and betas) and I really appreciated that fresh approach to world building. I do wish that the story was a little longer, but overall it’s an enjoyable read.
I recommend this unique tale of coping with changes that require patience, understanding and growth. The two protagonists come from very different backgrounds and coped in their own ways through dealing with rejection , isolation and unassisted pregnancy. Excellently told.
Rating: 2 stars I really didn’t feel much connection between the two MCs. I didn’t really buy into the fact that they were in love with other at the end of the story. The story was pretty bleak and not really my cup of tea.
Interesting story with an Alpha pregnant running away from this abusive Lead Alpha he worked with. In the middle of nowhere in the cold of winter he sees a cabin where a beta lives running away from his abusive mate/Alpha.
The beta delivers the Alpha's baby and romance blooms.
The premise of this was so intriguing I spent grocery money on this, but it was we worth it. A unique twist on what has become a rather predictable genre. Thank you for all your lovely writing! <3
This is a very different kind of omegaverse than I was used to but my only issue was that I wanted it to be longer. It also wasn’t as dark as I’d thought it would be.
Sadly was disappointed reading this book. After reading the book UnPrison by same author that was very good read this came up very empty handed. Couldn’t finish it.
This book had really interesting characters. The whole thing was different and had me reading fast right up to the end. I hate taking a star off for brevity, as I've had it done to me a time or too, but I just really wanted more of the story.
A story about finding a good place in the world for family when it looks like there is none. In this world betas are pretty much property in the rural areas as there are far more alphas. They are claimed and then fought for daily. Kemper was raised in a loving environment with parents who chose each other, so he is shocked when he leaves the city to find work but to become property out in the country. He ends up in an abusive relationship and is given a chance to run by some traders that stop by the outpost- he takes the chance knowing it means leaving alphas and never having a family. Harsen is a small alpha unable to fight enough to get a beta. He enters into a fuck buddy type relationship with a much larger alpha and on rare circumstance becomes pregnant. Unwilling to have a family with the brutish larger man he runs and finds himself at the cabin Kemper is hiding away in. Together the two get to make new decisions about what they want out of life. It was a chance for new beginnings and I thought each character was nicely done and they worked well to an end together.
Rating 3.5 This was an original look at mpreg and the couple dynamic that went from brutal beginnings to quite sweet. Rather than an A/B/O world, there are two types of men, the alphas who can impregnate a person and betas who bear children. Harsen, as a small alpha in an all-male work camp has come to terms with the fights and futility of his life--until he becomes pregnant. Kemper is a beta who had been brutalized by his alpha for two years until he was rescued by a kind alien trading race and relocated. What happens when the two lives meet surprises both of them. I always enjoy an author's take on the mechanics of mpreg and this was an unusual one, but one I liked. The novella kept me guessing how things were going to work out with them as a couple and with their living situation. There were several really tender moments as a family and an enjoyable sex scene of them as a couple. I had wondered whether to pursue Abraham as an author before this and this has won me over.
So, I was genuinely surprised. I was browsing Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program and ran into this short story. Normally I'm not an Mpreg fan outside fanfiction because it's just too unbelievable, but something told me to give this a try. I have to say I liked the background, this is an all male race with Alpha's and Beta's. Beta's can bear children and it is literally like national geographic, with the strongest fighting for the right to mate and breed.
Harsen was true to his character, an Alpha who often finds himself the weakest of Alphas but his pride refused to let him submit without a fight. Kemper was an abused Beta who just wanted to get away.
The story wasn't too sci-fi, so I didn't find myself over analyzing the viability of the Mpreg situation. I'll definitely be open to reading more of this authors work.
Yamila mentioned on Facebook that she’s new to the mpreg genre and “doesn’t know its tropes.” She certainly didn’t follow any in this one. This isn’t a bad thing, but this book may take some traditional mpreg readers by surprise.
As the title tells us, it’s an alpha who gets pregnant. The setting is primitive and both men are gruff, tough, and mean. No sweet, nurturing, submissive omegas with self-lubing holes in this one. But there’s plenty of character and love.
I didn't know what to expect with this book. It could have had a good storyline with no follow through or it could have been an amazing story. For me it fell just short of amazing. I loved the storyline and the only thing that could have made it better was if their story had an HEA for me it seemed like HFN with the possibility of HEA. It is left open which I hope means that there will be a sequel.
If I could, I'd give the novella a 4.5 out 5 stars due to some clarity issues and a few grammatical goofs. Other than that I would also like to have seen more character development so hopefully a sequel will be possible. I think the author ended the story ata good point, but I would like to read more.
