The observations of William Carpenter are as relevant today as they were over 100 years ago and just as easy to demonstrate to those individuals curious enough to discover 'our Earth's true nature'.
Mr Petri, who has rated Carpenters worthy observations one star only, has apperently written a 'learned book' on this subject, to which I requested Mr Petri to provide me with some 'like for like and point for point' evidences, as I was intrigued to discover just what Mr Petri had 'in his tool-box' to warrant giving a measly one star to what I consider 'first class observations by Carpenter'.
Mr Petri not only failed to answer any of my queries, but instead, repeatedly plugged his book...........I find it ironic that Mr Petri's apparent reasons for promoting his 'assumptions/theories, is 'making a profit' whereby, in stark contrast, I am in the process of selling my property for the purpose of 'promoting Truth and exposing the Lies' re Our Perceived Reality.
The Truth Always Stands Up When Put Under Close Scrutiny............................................God Bless.
William Carpenter was personal friends with Samuel Rowbotham and present with John Hampden and Alfred Wallace during "The Great Bedford Level Swindle," experiments. His 1888 book 100 Proofs Earth is Not a Globe gives one hundred bullet-points of evidence that Earth is a level motionless plane. This concise and compelling format was the inspiration for my own book published in 2015, "200 Proofs Earth is Not a Spinning Ball."
Like the other poster below, I found this on gutenburg.org as well. I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't surprised by what I saw. It's quick, but you're going to be hit across the head with stanza-like rhetoric of William Carpenter saying "this is proof that the Earth is not a globe" 100 times. That's right. He says that after every proof. There is a lot of vitriol and anger from him.
Read this for an English paper. Was really interesting to read the beliefs of an opposing viewpoint and the information was broken up into easy to read and understand paragraphs. That being said however, many of his so called “proofs” can easily be disproved by critical thinking and simple logic. Many of the proofs contain fallacies and there is no evidence in the book that withstands logic and science.
This was a freebie off of Project Gutenberg. Written in 1885 the author argues for the proposition of a flat earth. I was wondering if it would be a satirical work like Swift, but nope, the author was serious. Evan as far as 1885 scienc goes, the proofs were less than convincing.
Another great book to read when you want to laugh. If you feel you don't understand science, this book will make you feel that completing kindergarten makes you an astrophysicist. The author is clearly a preschooler who dictated this book to a cat.

Consider this paper in the time it was made, a time before we knew beyond a doubt the earth is a globe indeed. While Carpenter uses some proofs that are able to be argued against with our current knowledge, imagine the complexity they might have offered back in the day. Even with absolute fact in our favor, you may still find it a fun exercise to offer a scientific refutation to each of his proofs; give it a try if you wish to see how well your own knowledge is.
I especially enjoy the letters and articles recorded in the appendix, they offer an interesting outlook at history where this paper seemingly had no true opposition for quite a while. In his letters of direct challenge we see how passionate Carpenter is on his stance, as well as a lovely archive of publications about the paper giving a glimpse of its reception at the time.
As with any ( many ) of these types of disputes; ( Evolution, Moon Landings, Bigfoot, Faeries, 911, Election Results, Quantum Interpretations… et al ) they have strong & weak arguments, & critics attack The weakest arguments & ignore The Stronger — So maybe it would be best to keep The weakest arguments out of The hands of our ‘Enemies’ ! This book has far too many weak arguments, which may be taken as equally valid by neophytes being introduced to this subject matter ! Also; Many of these stronger arguments might well be served & strengthened further by some concise & elegant illustrations ! Even a line break between arguments would make keeping these individual points clearer ?
Largely moronic, but thought provoking... Of course the Earth isn't a globe, but neither is it a big pizza pie with continent toppings and an ice crust. It's a ______. Note: if you want to fill in the blank read Relativity: The Special and General Theory. A clue
Since the earth is factually a globe, and this book is not satire, it's very wrong. It's really easy to show the earth is not flat: due to perspective, the sun could never set if the earth were flat.
You would absolutely see the sun all day, every day if the earth were flat.
I found this book on Project Gutenberg and it's crazy to me that people believe this. They use the both the sun and the moon circling the earth as reasons why the earth is flat. Between that and using the Bible as a reason, to me this book doesn't hold up.
