Man the artwork in this slaps!
I love that the art style in the story telling portion changes along with the characters reciting said story, I almost wonder if jhonen actually returned to do the art for one of the segments either way really good. Also Sarah scribbles worked on portions of this book which is really cool as someone who grew up reading her webcomics. The humor is pretty solid in some stories but lags in other stories that could desperately use the dark humor. The dr Seuss parody comic was especially fun

Another great addition to the Zim-verse, especially the time travel story (wow, Zim has had two time travel stories (three if you count the episode where Dib thinks he won) and both were great, though I think Piggies might have the edge over this one, but it's CLOSE). Other than that, this collection checked all the boxes of great Zim stories: Dib being tormented for no good reason, Gir being Gir (TUNA-CAT!), Gaz being Gaz (and having to restrain herself from killing her brother), a story about Ms. Bitters, and Zim's insanity at full throttle. Not only is it an enjoyable volume in and of itself, but the great thing about these comic books is that thanks to their success it appears that Nickelodeon is bringing back Zim for a made-for-TV movie! AWESOME! (I'm sure recap kid is losing it right now)

I had a more developed review for this, but it accidentally got deleted.

So, here's the abridged version:

It's quite enjoyable, much better than volume two, as the guest artists seem to "get" Zim's essence more so than past contributors.

It's still not perfect and not as good as Volume One, but I quite liked it, and I think most Zim fans will, too.

A vast improvement over volume two...although the humor is starting to fall into a pattern of random for the sake of weird without the charm that Jhonen seems to bring to that very formula.

Three years ago, I stopped collecting Invader Zim comics. I was about to enter junior year of college, which was hectic. I also had to budget, so I fell behind on certain comics for a little while back then. But I also kinda got bored by the lack of direction in the Invader Zim comics. What I wanted from the comic series was a continuation of the show that would build toward a conclusion in the organic way that it felt the show was doing when it aired. The humor was still there, but the issues usually just felt like random adventures.

Now, with the movie Into the Florpus coming out, I feel like I can enjoy these comics a little bit more for what they are. The first story in this collection involves Zim discovering that Dib has a cat allergy. It's fine, but feels like certain situations Zim has been in but with Dib getting the reaction. Next is a time travel story, where we see an older Zim who has actually succeeded in conquering the Earth. I would've liked to have known how he did it, but the interactions are stupidly hilarious. And I liked seeing GIRT's design. The short story right after it has an appropriately creepy art style, with the words written as a poem. But then there's a story that just feels like "Abducted" but with Dib in Zim's place. And Zim's head is drawn fatter for some reason. This is then followed by a Gaz and Dib story in which Gaz tries to make sure Dib doesn't get sad so he doesn't explode. It's kinda sweet, but also not out of character. The final story gives Ms. Bitters the Legends of the Dark Knight treatment, with her students telling possible origin stories for her. I would like to know what exactly her deal is, but that's probably something that would be saved for the show if it ever comes back. I doubt it'll be touched upon in the movie.

Zim, Gir, Dib, Gaz and Re-cap Kid are back with another collection of adventures... or should that be misadventures? Zim discovers "allergies"; he succeeds in taking over the world (and then foiling himself); then other aliens attempt to extort Zim by holding his "best friend" Dib hostage; Dib and Gaz have a bonding adventure chasing down Squatches (you'll find out why this spelling); the class at Skool hypothesizes on the origins of Ms. Bitters; followed by three short stories (like 3-4 pages each) by guest writer/artists.

Solid Zim-ness, with plenty of chuckles, not too many gross out moments and much insanity, but no really hilarious-laugh-out-loud moments.

Content issues: No language or sensuality issues; cartoon type violence, including torture with critters chewing on characters, but everyone is fine in the end. I think the moment with Gir and the bottle of sweat was the only time I almost gagged.

Zim, an alien bent on destroying Earth and Dib, the human who is trying to save the Earth, battle it out with raunchy humor, mistakes and many embarrassing moments. Very odd humor and plot. Great illustrations but hard to follow.
Zim using Dib's allergy to cats against him makes a secret weapon. Dib slingshots himself into the future. where he teams up with Zim to get back home. Gaz, Dib's sister, inadvertently gives Dib a potion that will make him explode if he gets sad so she joins him as he searches for squishsquatch hating every minute of it while keeping a happy face on. Ms. Bitters , the evil teacher at skool doesn't show up to teach....the stories explaining why are many. Zim tries to use sweat as fuel.

Volume three has been my least favorite of the three that I have read, so I am giving it a three star rating. It was kind of boring and felt more like zim fanfic vs. mainline Invader Zim. I liked the stories enough, specifically the later ones. Chapter fives Tales of bitters starts the best stories in the book, this one is told in multiple styles and I really enjoyed the creativity offered to the readers concerning where the fuck Mrs.bitters originated and subsequently got in to teaching. Invasion by Dave Crosland and Fred C. Stresing is certainly my favorite. It's like a nightmare before Christmas style story told in verse and the art is really great. The sweat spot is gross. So I guess I actually only liked two of them. Two stories, Three stars.

There are some pretty strong issues here, including one where Gaz is along for the ride and more Gaz is always better. And I have to give props to Dave Crosland for writing an issue entirely in verse. The art was kind of a mixed bag in this volume, though. For the most part it was fine, but there were a couple of issues where the art was very cutesy and "cute" should never be used to describe Invader Zim. I'll only accept weird, creepy, and unnerving.

All in all, not as good as Volume 1 but much better than Volume 2. Miss Bitters is one of my favorite non-main characters and getting to see a whole chapter of her was the best. Still loving the series, still say you should read this!

It's Zim, what more do you want? The first issue in this volume was done by Sarah Andersen, of Sarah's Scribbles fame. My only complaint is that none of them were written or illustrated by Jhonen Vasquez himself.

Quick sum-up: hilarious animal allergy story, good time traveling story, funny giant Dib story, great Gaz and the squatches story, ok Mrs. Bitters identity story, and ok bonus poem.

While a great Invader Zim I feel like it was not as good as the first two volumes though. The first two stories were the best and I even had some laugh out loud moments.

this book continues to surprise me in good ways...fun and I like the art--cute and ugly somehow simultaneously? all in all does not disappoint fans of previous volumes, at least not me

One of the better ones so far. Lots of different art styles and one shots.

Some of the stories are a little hit-and-miss, but there’s some truly lovely artwork in here (and by “lovely,’ I mean “horrible”).

I think I like this one so much because the very first story in it, was drawn by Sarah Anderson...

Meh.

Just another something while I struggle to finish Prince Lestat and Uncle Tom's Cabin. I'm making progress on them, I just can't make myself read them for too long at a time.

Bonus part has good Halloweeny vibe and lettering in a poem one. The next one is a cute style w/ Zim stealing sweat to make fuel. Ends too abrupt though and the next one is only two pages of my least fav character: Dib. Cool ghost corpse bride-ish hair though.

Not the best. The stories got a few chuckles out of me, but they weren't as funny as the first or even the 2nd (arguably weaker than the first) volume.

More crazy adventures with Zim, the incompetent alien invader of Earth, his loyal robot sidekick Gir, and the only human onto Zim's plans, his neighbor boy Dib.

In the first story Zim discovers that Dib is allergic to cats, so he tries to create a robot cat that will eliminate Dib forever.
If you've watched or read any Invader Zim, you can guess how well this will work out.

In the next story, Zim and Dib go forward in time to find Zim has actually conquered Earth. Only future Zim has no time or space for old Zim, so Dib must help Zim depose the future Zim and get back to the present.

In the third story aliens kidnap Dib to try and force Zim to hand over his humongoserum, mistakenly thinking Dib is Zim's best friend.
I'll give you one guess who loses in this story. Plus: Minimoose spotting!!!

In the fourth story, Gaz accidentally feeds Dib explosive nanos that will blow him up if he gets too sad and she has to keep him happy until they are neutralized.
This is probably Gaz's biggest challenge to date.

The fifth story, finds Ms. Bitters late to school and the students in her class speculate on her origins.
Those who have watched the TV series will recognize parts of this from a previous episode.

The sixth story is Dib ranting about his life and Zim's schemes.
All in rhyming lines!

The seventh story finds Zim and Gir collecting human sweat to use as a new fuel.
Disturbing, and yet funny.

In the eighth story Dib gets some advice from a ghost he's been hunting.

Overall, a satisfactory collection of stories. None of them were particularly epic, but they were still fun.

Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. Some cartoon violence (everyone ends up ok in the end usually) and just gross factor.
