In every element of her life, even before she was born, Blake Carson has failed. She isn’t a boy, she isn’t pretty, she doesn’t fit in—she is ugly. That is what she believes. All of her faults make her ugly.

Then he comes along. Logan Black has met ugly head on, and lived to tell the tale. Now he has moved to West County, to get away from both his father and the pain of the past. He never expected to meet his future, but there she sits in the cafeteria at school, accepting everyone’s judgment, and worse, believing them.

But Logan knows she isn’t ugly. She isn’t a failure, and he is about to show her another way. He is determined to be her friend—and more.

Then a fight brings his father to town, and Logan runs, taking Blake with him. But they can’t run forever, and when an accident leaves them no choice, they have to head home and face the consequences of what they did. Can their love survive the real ugly in the world?

Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound.
She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.

Ugly was a fast paced read. It didn't have the insta-love or romance but instead friendship and a strong message about bullying. It was fun seeing the hero stand strong in his convictions and teaching a girl who didn't know her own value, the importance of life. The most beautiful part was them falling in love and knowing it was more, a whole lot more.

**2.5 Less Detail Ugly Stars**

Blake is 17 and in high school. She believes she is Ugly...that she has no value or worth. She hears this from kids at school. Her parents basically ignore her and seem to not care whether she's there or not.

Logan is the new kid at school. He's the bad boy all the guys want to be friends with and all the girls want to fuck. He spots Blake in the cafeteria and sees something in her..something he wants to get to know. The two begin a friendship that develops into more.

I struggled with how to rate this while I was reading. One minute I thought, this is going to be a 4-4.5 read. Then something would happen and I was like no way..it's a 3. Needless to say I had a few issues.

► Blake's parents-I think it would have been better and more "real" if they had continued to "not care" about Blake. I didn't buy for one minute they "woke up" and realized they had been mistreating her. A little communication between them could have straightened some things up that just made no sense otherwise.

►Blake's whole treatment by her peers was OTT. Not necessarily a terrible thing but it reminded me of another author where the heroine is always treated horribly in a very OTT unrealistic way. I tended to roll my eyes during those times.

►I loved Logan for almost the entire book. He was nearly perfect...nearly.
“You think you’re ugly, that people don’t like you because of it. The truth is, the world is ugly around you, and you’re the bright spark that shines for those who are willing to see. You’re not ugly, Blake. You’re beautiful.”~Logan

He doesn't touch or look at another girl the minute he sees Blake. My biggest issue came with about 10 pages left. At this point there had been absolutely zero sex scenes. That did not bother me since Blake is underage for the majority of the book. What bothered me was when we do get a sex scene, Logan is thinking about all the "lessons" he's had from other women. He mentions early on that he's been with lots of girls and women that include his dad's secretary whom he cheated on Logan's mom with.

But during the one sex scene I DID NOT NEED TO KNOW about his "lessons" and specifically:
"I’m so grateful I took the time to learn from the women here."~Logan

Opening her lips, he spread her wide, recalling several lessons he’d been willing to take. “When you find a woman you love, you’re going to have to be willing to lick her, treasure her. Don’t go down on her as if she’s some kind of snack. Enjoy it. You want your dick sucked, be the gentleman that makes her want to suck it.”~Logan

This caused me to drop my rating. I knew he had a huge sexual past...but during their sex scene it was off-putting. I dropped a whole star for that.

I did add half a star for the epilogue. We get to see them several years in the future.

Blake Carson believed she was ugly, alone, and unworthy. She went to school, she tried to get her parents attention by doing well, she was ignored, bullied, and painfully alone. When Logan Black moves to town, he is a bad boy to a tee. The hot student with tattoos and everyone at school wants a part of him. Logan however is not interested in the jocks, cheerleaders, or anyone else but Blake. She reminds him of his old best friend and he sees someone who is worthy and has a giving heart. Getting Blake to see that is a struggle, but he plans to show her that he is going to be her rock, best friend, and maybe one day her love.

This was very well done. I shed a few tears on this one. Blake is just a void in peoples life, you get her parents prospective but you want smack them silly. Logan is mature for his age and always has Blake's interest at heart. This was a surprise for me, I think Sam Crescent took a difficult subject and turned it into something beautiful.

THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL.

This book is not for me as it features a young man with some very perverted ideas about woman. Even sleeping with his dad's secretary...his dad did her too here.

I really enjoyed this book! I was hesitant at first but I decided I liked the uniqueness of the story. Though, some parts were cliche, the author put an interesting spin on some of the events to make the story different from all the other "'ugly' girl falls for bad boy" kind of storylines.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My reason for not giving a full five stars is that there were certain things that were mentioned about the H's past that I could've done without. It was noting too bad, but things like that's usually stick with me throughout a book.
Overall, I thought this book was a really enjoyable little read!!
All of the other books I've read by Sam Crescent have featured adult H/h's so, to be honest, I expected Ugly would seem too tame in comparison and negatively affect my enjoyment. It's true that the heat level is certainly much lower. In fact, don't expect sex to come into play until late in the book. Doesn't matter though. Ugly doesn't suffer at all from the decreased sensuality level. In fact, it's some of Sam Crescent's best writing. I don't know if maybe the subject matter is an issue she feels strongly about and that pushed her writing to a new level, or perhaps teen/new adult romance is her unexpected wheelhouse. Whatever the cause, the result was a book I couldn't put down, blazing through it in just a couple of hours. While romantic and funny, Ugly isn't a fluffy bunny, rainbows and floating hearts type read. Be warned: the book deals with a number of sensitive themes that may be difficult for some readers.
The main characters are realistically flawed, and their flaws are not addressed in cookie cutter fashion, which I found refreshing. Because of his father and his father's influence and lifestyle, Logan has life experience well beyond his years. And as a former underground fighter he's well versed in pain, though far more in doling it out than having to take it. He's also experienced the pain that comes with life changing loss. That loss caused him to lose his way for awhile, which is why he's starting over in this new place with his mother. Logan isn't like any of the other kids in Blake's school. He alone sees her. Really sees her. And he's determined to show her who she really is. I loved his patience and determination. First in getting her to accept him even as a friend, then in steadily changing her self-perception. Logan falls in love well before Blake but he's content to wait, unwilling to push her for more knowing she isn't ready. As a reader old enough to be his mother, I found myself proud of him, thinking what an amazing young man he was already and expecting him to only improve with age. Initially, the benefits of a friendship between Logan and Blake seem more hers than his. But Blake appreciates the value of a true friend, she is 100% loyal and can be trusted. Logan really needs that in his life. She accepts him and supports him, but isn't afraid to be honest and call him on his crap when warranted. Their slide from friendship into attraction, attraction to young love, sexual involvement and into deep, lasting love is gradual and beautiful to watch.
The important secondary characters are mainly her parents and his parents. I adored his mother from the get-go and credit her for Logan's awesomeness. Blake's parents and Logan's father all have a lot of mistakes to answer for. What I liked was that the author didn't leave them that way as cardboard cutouts, nor allow last minute Disney transformations. There was work to be done. It took time, was messy and painful and more mistakes were made in the working through. Even so, as in real life, it eventually comes down to choosing whether to hold on to the anger, or to forgive, both yourself and others. Then comes the slow rebuilding of relationships. This added so much depth to the story and more belief and satisfaction in the ending. I'm sitting here smiling as I type thinking back over the book. I even think I need to up the rating.
If you're a fan of Sam Crescent's adult character books, particularly the really HOT ones, and were thinking of skipping Ugly, I strongly urge you to reconsider. You'd really be missing out.
The only thing I love about this book is Logan and the epilogue.
The rest of the characters (both sets of parents) were likeable and they made this book give off the feels. I wasn't too keen on how quick paced they became but again the epilogue made me sigh with happiness.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review
I say this about this author every time she brings out a book that I think a lot of us can relate to. And this was one of those books.
This is a story about how cruel people can be and how you can hurt someone without thinking that you are actually causing so much damage to them
And this is why I loved Logan so much. Logan didn't let anyone tell him what to do, he didn't give into peer pressure all he did was be Blake's friend! And all Blake was worried about was causing his reputation damage.
This book is about a girl who was told so many times that she's ugly and that she's worth nothing, and about a boy who stood up for her when no one else did. And made her see that she is worth so much more.
Thank you Sam for Sharing this story.
Historia rápida y sencilla de leer. Con unos personajes principales que aunque algo clichés, se te hacen agradables.
Es una buena lectura para pasar el día en cama leyendo si buscas algo ligero para pasar el rato.
Nice ending BUT...
Goodness there's many mistakes in this book.
Things like: she was sitting a the dining table but slammed her hands on the desk.
Also, when she was laying on the bed, Logan climbed her head. Um, huh?
That was only a couple out of many.
I did not care for the POV the book was told in, I prefer 1st. This was almost a young adult book, except the ending when they had sex and even that was blah!
Thank goodness this book was on sale. I would've been steaming mad if I wasted 4.99 on this book.
I really loved this book. This story is much more then just romance. It tells about how sometimes people can be cruel and be hurting other person. Ones would do this because they just enjoy hurting other. Or because they have weaknes and are vulnerable and they don't want someone to point it out, so they lash out first. The other would be bullying a person don't even releasing they are doing it, because they are so lost in theirs pain. There is others that though are good by nature but they want to fit in so much or don't be at the end of the bullying, that they sometimes just look they goodness away and joins the crowd.
But the most important part of this story is that, despite with a lot of people around thinking of you as a waste of place and overlooking you, and making you slowly to feel like they may be right, it's enough for one person to stand by you and to say, that you are something, you are important and special, for all negative to slip away.
And that's why I adore Logan. If the rest of the story wouldn't be good enough, Logan would be enough to safe the day. He's tattooed, tough, sexy, loyal, selfless, protective and caring. He was just perfection.
If you enjoy YA/NA books, grab it now and devour it.
I loved the premise and I am disappointed that this did not work for me. I loved these type of stories.
The writing style did not work for me among other things. I felt that the only reason the hero had any interest in Blake (the heroine) was because his other female friend (from his other school) died by committing suicide because she was bullied like Blake was.
The story felt too insta-love for me. There was no explanation for the hero's attraction to Blake except guilt. It all felt forced and told to me. I like to come up with my own conclusions/assumptions.
This was such a sweet story! Short, light and beautiful. Sam Crescent writes the best novellas and I never found one from her that I didn't like. Her novellas are perfect for getting you out of reading slumps, or for those moments when you just want to read something good and short.
Ugly is the story of Blake and Logan.
High school romance, best friends to lovers, new boy at school, dysmorphic teasing heroine, rebel, hot hero, even though high school romances aren’t my favourite, they sometimes are really well written and I loved this. TW: self harm, rape, and suicide via his late best friend Shauna. I completely loved this book, I loved the whole series pretty much but this one was the best.
I love this quote so much: “Their love didn’t start with beauty, but in the horrid lies that had been spoken to make both of them to believe the ugly in the world. After fighting their demons, they found the magic, and the will and freedom to love one another.”
Her parents gave her so much shit for not being a boy and Logan’s father cheated so many times and even went through a divorce but he managed to give that up for Renee because he loved her more than just a quick fuck. I actually hated her parents at the start and I still do but it’s more of a frenemy hate.
Solid 5/5
This is a quick pace one and it's a kinda okay book for quick read. From teenage love that turns into forever love. It tells us how the past didn't define our future, how we can choose out own path and not just following what other people wants.
Not What You'd Expect from Sam Crescent
Spoilers: This is a sweet love story. First love. Friends. Best friends. And finally lovers. Married lovers never apart. Having it all. The sweet life.
Now to some slight criticism - 1) not well edited; and 2) This phrase is ridiculous in any romance book with a virgin, It was the best sex she had ever had! " or some such nonsense. Hello! She's a virgin. Of course it's the best, cause it's the ONLY sex she's ever had! I wish intelligent authors I really like for so many other reasons would stop using this type of sentence. Try instead something like, "She never knew sex was going to be this great/wet/dirty/mind blowing." That makes more sense, don't you think?
If I weren't a vegetarian I would ask "Where is the beef"? Since I don't eat meat I'll have to ask
Blake Carson's classmates have convinced her she's ugly. Logan Black is the new boy in school and he can clearly see that Blake is anything but ugly. Being friends should be good for both of them but it quickly turns into something bad.
This book sounded like a solid teen romance but it was too short to really captivate me. There just wasn't enough there to sink my teeth into.
I found this on my Kindle today forgot I had it, I love Sam Crescents work some are hits some hit below but always entertaining, This is a coming of age read that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it does however fall short of my usual 5 stars for Sam's works, It was too short too sickly sweet and all wrapped up with a neat little bow to fast. The idea of the story was excellent, especially with the angle of Blake's tale, Parents who are so wrapped up in their grief completely forget about the daughter they already have, with the end result her completely believing she is this ugly unwanted person and everyone is justified in their reasoning, after all her parents think she is ugly and unlovable so why should anyone else think differently, enter The hero rebel Logan, who sees her for what she is. The story could have been such an epic tale if the scenes were they went on the run were more, it was too neat to nice. Not realistic.Logan has his own problems so mix the two together we have a disaster waiting to happen, I just felt like this could have been so much more, I loved the two Hh involved but a bit more to them would have been much better.
I usually don’t really give half stars but this was a solid 3.5⭐️ read for me. Not as good as the first one but better than the second one..
Back in the day I used to love and devour „new bad boy in town meets unpopular/bullied wallflower“ stories on wattpad, so this story really brought me back to that time in the best ways.
And just like any good Wattpad story, this could use some serious fucking editing.
The biggest issue for me tho, were the characters: they were both kind of insufferable.
I tried to remind myself that they‘re only 17/18 years old and that I might not be able to relate to them anymore (which put me in a little bit of a crisis bc wtf i‘m only 20), but then I decided that nope, not even a 17 year old can act that stupid and not be called out for it by me.
also TW if you struggle with infidelity issues in your family, self esteem issues and emotionally neglectful parents… ouch.
good one!
I really liked this story of high school romance. The girl in the story is being bullied by the majority of the students around her/ all the athletes anyway. The guy comes in as a transfer student from Las Vegas; he’s worldly, tattooed, good looking and in disbelief the kids in their school are all targeting one girl. He befriends her. Their friendship is adorable.
He really is a decent human being and there isn’t enough of that lately in life or romance stories. I repeat/ the hero is NOT the bully. He’s the antihero. He’s the guy who bullies - well- bullies. He beat them down. He does meet the definition of romantic hero as he sees someone in need of help and responds, he’s Johnny on the spot with the emotional and physical rescue. The story is extremely youthful in tone, but 100% worth the read.
Loved her Ah-Ha moment of realizing she’s not the “Ugly” one ❤️ I think this book could teach some people few things about human decency ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Logan & Blake Are Wonderful People!! Isn’t is sad 5 guys gang up to beat on 1 guy, but when they get some Karma and their beaten asses handed to them the law goes to punish the 1 guy who defended himself and the girl🙄
Her parents are disappointments (a nicer version of what I’d like to call them, but they have their demons too) His Mom is wonderful, His Dad typical adulterer, yet a great Lawyer ⚖️ but they too love their son!
💪Their silly sides are funny:
“After a good workout, I stink. I have a manly smell.” He lifted his arm in the air, and proceeded to tell her to sniff.
“Stop it, you goon. I don’t want to sniff your armpits. Gross.”🤭
Blake was not anything. Her father wanted a boy and got her. Her mother always told her she was plain, ugly. Even being friends with Izzy made her feel that way. When Logan Black moves into town, things change. Logan isn’t into the BS. He sees people as what they are and Blake is not ugly. She is sweet and doesn’t have a mean bone in her. The story is sad too. They both had problems at home. Blake with her parents that showed no sign of love and yet at the last wanted to make amends. And Logan, he had his mother but still had a chip on his shoulder about his Dad. I can understand why too. My heart broke for both of them. They were both hurting and needed someone. Which they found in each other. This isn’t full on, get in bed, but learning about the one you will cherish forever.
