It was September 11th and almost too quiet, making it an eerie air that hung on the day. John thought Matt was overreacting when he said "Leave New England you need to come to our Kentucky retreat." The banks on holiday and riots spilling out of the cities, coming too close for comfort. The decision to leave was glaringly obvious. John and Amy knew Matt and Dez would have a place for them, as they gathered their small group and began a journey they would never forget. WOW...JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD IT FIGURED OUT WHO WAS THE GOOD GUYS AND WHO WERE THE BAD GUYS DJ COOPER PULLS ALL SORT OF SURPRISES.
The Long Road: Dystopia Series by DJ Cooper (the 2nd book in this series) will blow your mind. Some of the characters you were led to believe were the heroes in this story turn out to be deceiving, to say the least.
This series, being a post-apocalyptic story, has more to the story than just a tell of people struggling to survive after the collapse of society. The characters are clearly defined, the twist and turns in the characters in the storyline will just blow your mind. The determination to survive against the olds, the troubles to find safety, and the aspect of the actions of others to help those they don't even know to help them survive is not only an inspiration but will leave you believing that no matter how bad things get, there are those who will show compassion and help those who are unable to help themselves.
This book and series is a very well written story, and you will not go wrong reading this series. I hope you'll find yourself enjoying it as much as I have.
John loved Amy, she was beautiful, pristine, and her excellent culinary skills seemed to always ensure he carried an extra few pounds. The two of them couldn't have been much different, Matt was outdoorsy, a prepper, and with Sept 11th just around the corner it was time to make sure things were in order. Just in case. Then came the newest of the Ebola scare, but something about it didn't sit right. This broadcast marked the beginning of a hidden threat, and a journey where life itself was the only reward. That, and working out who can be trusted.
Having read the first book it was really interesting to find myself in the same time frame, following the adventure of John and Amy as they attempt to make their way to safety. This was a good read, adding a sense of depth to the characters and also serving to enhance the first book as it is things unseen by the reader in the first. It works well as stand alone, and is a good and realistic read.
This is the second book in this series, although it can be read as a standalone. It's a book that leaves you thinking that all this could really happen. There are lots of thought-provoking quotes at the beginning of each chapter that you definitely want to read. This is dystopian but not young adult as there are scenes of violence. There were some editing issues but if you can overlook these the story holds its own and takes the reader on a journey that holds a lot of possibilities and things that could come to pass. It's original and the characters are well fleshed out. You get to feel what they feel as they make their journey to safety. I look forward to reading the next book in the series to see what will happen next.
It's definitely better than the first book in the series. Finally, some insight into Matt being a not-so-upstanding guy. I think some of the survivalist activty is a bit unrealistic, especially in terms of just how much food they ate. They continually had seemingly large meals while traveling, and all i kept thinking that in a true survival situation as this, you'd think they'd try to conserve their resources a bit. There are still several editing errors, but overall better.
Thought I was starting a series and only got a few pages which suggests that it's an introduction to the series so I only gave it a four. Now I should go and look at the long road dystopia series and see if this is in fact the rest of the story. She'll promise very detailed about everything and caught my interest
I was distracted by the lack of editing. It got very confusing with a baby referred to as both a boy and a girl etc. Trying to continue reading the series, I find there are two of the same book, except with a different cover. I would like to finish reading how it all turns out....
