Kentarou Miura (三浦建太郎) was born in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, in 1966. He is left-handed. In 1976, at the early age of 10, Miura made his first Manga, entitled "Miuranger", that was published for his classmates in a school publication; the manga ended up spanning 40 volumes. In 1977, Miura created his second manga called Ken e no michi (剣への道 The Way to the Sword), using Indian ink for the first time. When he was in middle school in 1979, Miura's drawing techniques improved greatly as he started using professional drawing techniques. His first dōjinshi was published, with the help of friends, in a magazine in 1982.

That same year, in 1982, Miura enrolled in an artistic curriculum in high school, where he and his classmates started publishing their works in school booklets, as well as having his first dōjinshi published in a fan-produced magazine. In 1985, Miura applied for the entrance examination of an art college in Nihon University. He submitted Futanabi for examination and was granted admission. This project was later nominated Best New Author work in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Another Miura manga Noa was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine the very same year. Due to a disagreement with one of the editors, the manga was stalled and eventually dropped altogether. This is approximately where Miura's career hit a slump.

In 1988, Miura bounced back with a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, as an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves (王狼, ōrō?) based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken. It was published in the monthly Japanese Animal House magazine in issues 5 and 7 of that year.

In 1990, a sequel is made to Ourou entitled Ourou Den (王狼伝 ōrō den, The Legend of the Wolf King) that was published as a prequel to the original in Young Animal Magazine. In the same year, the 10th issue of Animal House witnesses the first volume of the solo project Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga titled Japan, that was published in Young Animal House from the 1st issue to the 8th of 1992, and was later released as a stand-alone tankōbon. Miura's fame grew after Berserk was serialized in Young Animal in 1992 with the release of "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of his masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary mangakas. At this time Miura dedicates himself solely to be working on Berserk. He has indicated, however, that he intends to publish more manga in the future.

In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. Various art books and supplemental materials by Miura based on Berserk are also released. In 1999, Miura made minor contributions to the Dreamcast video game Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. 2004 saw the release of yet another video game adaptation entitled Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Record of the Holy Demon War.

Since that time, the Berserk manga has spanned 34 tankōbon with no end in sight. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan-made, ranging from statues, action figures to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentarou Miura received the second place in the Osamu Tezuka Culture Award of Excellence for Berserk.[1]

Miura provided the design for the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo, whose voice is taken from the Japanese singer and actor, Gackt.

Miura passed away on May 6, 2021 at 2:48 p.m. due to acute aortic dissection.

A very slow volume, because of all the explaining of the spirit, and magic world.
All volumes that are building up for a new story are always slow.
We seem too far away from the end even though there is 13 volumes left to 37, which i know isn't the end, but he should really bring this to a close he will not live forever to keep prolonging the tale. (We will call this a prophecy because i prophesize these things)
It appears like the trolls are the new enemy, but i don't think though, i think there is an apostle behind them, there must be.
I also think with all the new magic items that the team have acquired, there will come a time where they all prove helpless, and Guts will be the one to defend them all.

"God bestows upon us fate, but it is the children of men who choose it! "

We get a lot of lore dump in this chapter, and it was very interesting to get to know about the cosmology of the Berserk world.
Guts' party is on their way to their first big quest. This leaves a feeling of anticipation of what's to come, what the future unfolds.
There are some uplifting moments, good to see after all the bleak things that we observe in this manga(which is still abundant in this volume) .

I appreciate the insight into the rather unique and compelling cosmology of Berserk, but the fact remains that it's still just an infodump. It could have been done better - indeed, it is done better as the story goes.

A pretty great wizard dwelling, though.

Secours inattendus

Continuing the Falcon of the Millennium Empire Arc - The Holy Evil War Chapter

So we get the crew of Guts, Puck, Serpico, Lady Farnese, Casca, and Isidro. This crew feels like it'll be together for awhile and the book now feels less like Guts vs The World.

The crew are headed to the Elven paradise Puck spoke of... but of course there's going to be trouble along the way! They bump into some demonic trolls and get help by a young witch. She turns out to be Schierke the apprentice of Flora, witch of the Spirit Tree Mansion. After battling some clay Golems, the crew meet Flora. She offers them a way to reduce the effects of the brand if they do a job for her.

We learn what a behelit is for - it's a fetish for summoning the Five Angels and its a possession that you can't just throw away (it'll magically come back to its owner).

Serpico gets given a magic sword that uses wind elementals. Isidro gets a similar thing but with fire. Farnese gets a silver knift, Casca a silver chainmail armour. Guts of course rejects a weapon, choosing to stick with his giant sword. The giant sword seems to have magical properties from all the ghouls it's slayed.

This volume, and a bit from the previous one, seem a little out of step with the world Miura has created. It's a bit too traditional sword and sorcery with classic witches, trolls and magic. Feels inconsistent. But I kinda like it. A bit of fresh air, ie more light-heartedness.

On a second read, I skimmed the explanations of the magic talismans and the occult underpinnings of things. It was a nice change for Berserk, but not very interesting to read after the first time. Miura never delved into this sort of stuff in past volumes, and yet that also gives its inclusion here what smacks of an info dump, like he just started to read into matters of the occult and magic and decided to drop as much of it as he could tastefully into the series.

The story and world building are becoming much more fantastical and Guts has inadvertently gathered a group that’s reminiscent of an rpg party. I’m still enjoying the series a lot, but this volume is focused on dumping a lot of info on the reader, it’s done well but it isn’t quite as compelling as other volumes.

(...)

Gatsu (a Puck):

Puck: ¡¡No digas cosas crueles!!

Witches are one of my most favorite types of characters in fantasy stories. I’m so glad we got one here!

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟗𝟗 "𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐞 (𝟏)"

The Golem looks so cute! I like it, it’s so Ghibli coded.

Surprising for Berserk but the settings are so cozy, I’m loving this!

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟏 "𝐀𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝"

I love that Schierke has joined; she already has chemistry with Isidro.
So much important information has been dumped in this chapter, but I didn’t comprehend a lot of it honestly🧍‍♂️

So surprised to see the Skull Knight again. I wonder what favor he asked Flora.
Ngl the amount of information dump in this volume is so overwhelming. I’m kinda forcing myself to read.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟓 "𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬"

There’s more to Isidro’s past and I hope we get to know it. The interaction he had with Morgan was interesting.
I love seeing Guts growing calmer and more relaxed around other people!

This volume signifies when Berserk starts to get lighter. Not a fan. Some series can balance both darkness and light well. Berserk is not one of those series. It is always jarring and Miura has never found a way to make it work without it being stupid. He goes from A song of Ice and Fire to panty jokes and it's just awful. Miura seems to think comedy is the typical Japanese harem version, which does NOT work in Berserk. This approach toward what he deems 'Humour' begins to slowly erode this series over time into mostly cheeky references and more panty jokes.

For example, the most recent chapter of Berserk that released in 2021 has Isidro looking up the skirts of little girls and declaring how determined he is to see their 'Pumpkin Panties' while Puck cosplays as Lord Sidious with a bunch of Star Wars fairy clones around him. No . . . I am not making that up. That really happens in the canon story. You probably don't even believe me, but I swear on my life. Look it up. It just breaks my heart what mainly Isidro and Puck end up doing to this masterpiece narrative. Don't even get me started on Chestnut Puck. It hurts so much to see Miura do this to his own work. It physically pains my heart.

I'm coming to love the little group that has assembled around Guts.

This volume reinforces the ideas and themes of the series while also progressing this arc so the group is set to defend a town from an army of trolls on their journey to Puck's homeland.

This volume can get more wordy then the last few buts it is just as good because it is not just spinning the wheels it's moving forward.

**English down below**

◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇

Volume 24 of Berserk is a true achievement in Kentaro Miura's masterpiece. The first thing to highlight is the art, which simply approaches perfection on every page. Miura masterfully conveys emotions and atmospheres through his illustrations, creating a dark and visceral world that feels utterly alive.

The chapter in which Guts and his group meet the witch and delve into the astral world is a high point in the plot. The explanation of the astral world and its relationship with the human world is fascinating and adds an additional layer of complexity to the Berserk universe. Miura manages to seamlessly blend elements of dark fantasy, which is truly impressive.

The introduction of new characters and the evolution of those already known in this volume are another strong point. Each character has their own personality and motivations, adding depth to the story and generating genuine interest in their development.

In summary, Berserk Volume 24 is a work of art both in terms of visual art and storytelling. The combination of an engaging plot, memorable characters, and a richly detailed world makes this manga an unforgettable experience. My admiration for Kentaro Miura's ability to tell stories and create such a captivating world knows no bounds.

This is the 24th volume in the Berserk series and was an amazing volume in this series. Guts and crew continue their journey to Puck’s homeland, desperate to find a safe refuge for Casca. They end up stumbling upon some evil trolls and meet with witch apprentice Schierke. Schierke’s mentor provides them with some magical items and offers Schierke’s help on their journey.

After that Guts and crew end up defending a town against a horde of these evil trolls.

I loved the new characters introduced, especially Schierke. I really like where the story is going and love the whole adventure/journey theme to it.

Overall an amazing volume in the Berserk series. I love this new story arc so much and am curious to see where the story is going. Recommended to all fantasy horror fans out there.

Oh ok I'm actually liking this change of dynamics. The creator of Berserk not only masterfully creates the darkest of grim dark but can also produce an intertwining light heartedness charm to their storytelling. It’s a dramatic change, not sure it’s well balanced but I think in this bizarre cosmical world always expect the unexpected and go with it. This series is absolute adult material but there’s a fanciful adventure in this arc, and a lot more dialogue. I love the little group accompanying Guts, it’s nice to see them merging together as allies. I do miss the old Casca though, I’d really like to see her less absent minded. I’m excited for the next volume as they’re defending a town against evil trolls!! And on a venture to Pucks homeland.

Disappointing.
After such a good Golden Age arc, this childish party of adventures is just disappointing. A boy, a girl, two elves... why, just why?? It's not a horror brutal manga it was for the Golden Age. It's just some kind of teen-rated average story now. I have to force myself to continue reading it in the hope it will get better.

This was a pivotal issue in that it starts the protagonist into a new adventure and obviously adds a new member to their party , however this volume was filled with a lot of monologue , much of which was really difficult to understand in a single read , even then we had plenty of action , gore , nudity , more rapes which have certainly now become a norm and has made me numb to any sense of darkness and just starting to feel like unnecessary indulgence of the author. This tale also felt like a diversion to the main story building up . Overall i was massively dissappointed with this volume
