I'm a wanted jewel thief. He's FBI. What's that saying? Keep your friends close...and your husband closer.
Being a retired jewel thief certainly has its perks.
1. Oh, wait. 2. No it doesn't.
Without the thrill of the chase, life's been pretty dull. I garden, I drive my gorgeous husband up the wall, and I watch as my old world slowly slips away. But what's that old saying? When one thief closes the door...a copycat jimmies open a window.
And now all fingers at the FBI are pointed at me.
Set up to take the fall for thefts worth millions, I have no choice but to strap on my heels and help my FBI agent husband track the thief. Grant might not think he needs a partner, but this is one case only a true professional can solve. Besides, I've got to know who's been taking my bad name in vain.
Let's just hope curiosity doesn't kill the cat burglar.
Tamara Morgan is a contemporary comedy romance author. Ninety-nine percent of her information comes from television, movies, books, and all other pop culture activities that limit the amount of time she has to spend in polite company.
Her long-lived affinity for romance novels survived a B.A. degree in English Literature, after which time she discovered it was much more fun to create stories than analyze the life out of them. She lives with her husband and teen in the Inland Northwest, where the summers are hot, the winters are cold, and coffee is available on every street corner.
Book two in Tamara Morgan’s Penelope Blue trilogy, Saving Mr. Perfect picks up about six months after the end of Stealing Mr. Right, with former-jewel-thief-extraordinaire Penelope Blue trying to adapt to a “normal” life and keep out of trouble – but she’s miserable and bored witless.
She and her gorgeous FBI agent husband Grant Emmerson have agreed they want to make a go of their marriage (which Penelope had tried to tell herself in the first book was just a means to an end), but she’s not cut out to be a housewife and is feeling decidedly sidelined. Her friends – and former colleagues – are cagey around her, and worst of all, she thinks Grant may suspect her of being the “Peep Toe Prowler”, the thief responsible for a spate of recent jewel thefts from a number of extremely wealthy Manhattan residents.
She isn’t of course, but it seems that whoever it is is a copycat and out to throw suspicion in Penelope’s direction, so naturally she wants to get to the bottom of it and find out who it is. But Grant doesn’t want her involved; he’s ruffled enough feathers as it is by simply being married to Penelope who, in addition to being a jewel thief is also the daughter of one of the FBI’s most wanted, the infamous thief, Warren Blue. Grant wants Penelope to fly under the radar rather than risk getting herself arrested, which isn’t all that an unreasonable request from a loving husband, but still... Penelope can’t just sit back and let someone frame her for crimes she isn’t committing.
Add in to the mix the reappearance of Penelope’s hated stepmother, Tara, a suspicious but bumbling FBI agent who seems obsessed with Grant and Pen’s formidable grandmother, and it all adds up to another well-plotted romp into which the author throws the odd curveball while creating an entertaining and often very funny story that, while not as much of a romance as the previous book, nonetheless shows us how Grant and Pen’s marriage is evolving and how they are evolving with it. I admit that I did miss the scorching sexual chemistry of the first book, but I enjoyed how the author looks at Pen’s relationships with those around her and how they have changed – with Tara and Riker especially – and at her situation as someone who is now neither fish nor fowl, having left her life of crime, but not really being part of her husband’s law-abiding world either. I also liked that we got some of the story from Grant’s PoV this time; he needed to be rather inscrutable in Stealing Mr. Right so the reader was never quite sure which side he was on, but now we know he’s a good guy who loves his wife and just wants to keep her safe, it was nice to get into his head occasionally to see where he was coming from.
Penelope is a great narrator and I like her, her sense of humour and her insecurities, but I have to admit that some of the things that bugged me about her characterisation in the previous book are still present here and continued to bug me. She’s efficient and competent when it comes to being a thief, but in other areas she is rather naïve and doesn’t always think things through - and sometimes those two sides of her don't sit well together.
All in all, however, this is a fun, witty read with a nicely constructed plot, engaging characters and a well-matched central couple. If you’re looking for a strong romantic storyline, then you might be a bit disappointed, but if you’re after a comedy/caper/suspense novel that barrels along at a good pace, is chock-full of sparkling dialogue and also takes the time to construct and examine the various relationships between the characters, then Saving Mr. Perfect might be right up your alley.
Book Review For: Saving Mr. Perfect by Tamara Morgan 'Saving Mr. Perfect' by Tamara Morgan is book Two in the "Penelope Blue" series. This continues the story of Penelope "Pen" and Grant. I do feel that you should read the previous book "Stealing Mr. Right" first. Pen has given up her life of crime but its not so fun being a housewife. But there is a new theft in town it seems...but some think is Penelope back at it. But Grant knows differently and Pen is starting to think it might be her Step-Mother who is back in town. Pen goes forward with trying to solve the mystery of who is doing these thefts. This is a real exciting read with some mystery to it along with a few funny parts. Can't wait to read the next installment in this series."My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2H...https://twitter.com/soapsrus68https://www.facebook.com/RomanceBookR...http://booklikes.com/bloghttps://roma...https://www.tumblr.com/blog/romancebo...
The Penelope Blue series is best read in order, so for those who haven't read it, I suggest picking up book one, STEALING MR. RIGHT. Penelope and her crew are considered among the best in the business, which isn't surprising considering who her father is. Penelope's days as a cat burglar are in the past now that she is married to sexy FBI agent, Grant Emerson.
When a thief dubbed "the peek-a-boo" robber begins robbing homes of the elite and evading the FBI, Penelope fears her husband suspects her. Penelope is bored. She is trying the whole "normal" thing, but cannot help getting involved in the investigation. What follows is a story filled with danger, humor, and plenty of red herrings.
Penelope is a hoot. She is a combination of incredible smarts, insecurities, and good intentions. While admittedly she makes me a tad crazy, one cannot help but become caught up in her enthusiasm. Grant doesn't want her involved in the case at all, especially when an FBI agent with a dubious career weaves his way onto the case.
Morgan gave us plenty of suspects including Penelope's former crew/friends and stepmother. It was an interesting case and placed Penelope in a lot of new and awkward situations as she tries to assist her husband and complicated things in the process.
Since our couple is married, the romance is served as a side dish, and we witness them grow as a couple, share some heated kisses and make each other crazy. I liked their chemistry and appreciated the give and take between them. Poor Penelope is looking for a way to stay on this side of the law and still have an adventure. I like the direction the series is taking and look forward to seeing Penelope find her niche.
Suspense, relationship growth, humor, and comradery can all be found within the pages of SAVING MR. PERFECT. Fans of mystery, snark and quirky characters will enjoy the Penelope Blue series. It is a refreshing mix of genres. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Book Reviewer
I liked this, but I think I would have liked it more if I hadn't read the first 33% of the book as a preview in the first book and if this book didn't stop around 80%, to presumably preview the next one. Don't do that, publishers. It's really not good.
Anyway, I liked the established relationship aspect of this, but I wanted more of that as the actual focus of the book. It's a lot of "did she change/is she unhappy/can I change/I'm so unhappy" and that's not really fun to read in the way I was looking for with this series. I'm hopeful that we'll get that in the third book in the series, though.
While the second book in Morgan’s Penelope Blue’s series didn’t WOW me as much as the first book, I did like it. There was the sharp, witty dialogue and the strong cast of secondary characters. It still had the same humor I loved. And a really great leading character, both heroine and hero. I guess what it was missing was the “will they, or won’t they” get together. Grant and Penelope are an “established” couple that are still working out the bugs in their relationship. Penelope has grown bored. Once a kick-ass jewel thief, she’s now stuck at home, feeling a bit lost at what to do. Her friends are keeping secrets and Penelope feels left out of the loop. And then there is a new jewel thief in town who is causing trouble. Penelope suspects that Grant, her FBI hubby, has more information than he’s telling her. AND maybe even suspects his wife as the jewel thief. Confusion abounds….and Penelope sets out to find the thief and clear her name. The story, more or less, is all about the mystery and not the romance between Grant and Penelope. So, if you’re looking for angsty, hormonal-driven sexy times, you might want to pass. The second book of this series falls along the line as a cozy mystery read. However, it is a solid, well-written book that deserves a solid 4 star rating. There is character growth. Penelope struggles with her personal demons as well as how she can find that certain “zing” she got when she and her friends cased a job. And I must say that the most interesting character for me is Oz. I simply cannot wait to find out more about this very quiet, very intriguing secondary character. He stands out on the page for me and I want him to have his own HEA. Saving Mr. Perfect made me laugh, swoon, and I am looking forward to the next one. I seem to have a soft spot for these Penelope Blue books. I'm pretty methodical when it comes to selecting the books I read. I hate it when I get one I don't like, so I'm very selective. The thing with Stealing Mr. Right, was that it didn't meet any of my usual book criteria, and I was STILL dying to read it. So I did. And I loved it.
Naturally, I couldn't wait for Saving Mr. Perfect to come out. I wasn't disappointed. I was laughing within minutes, and had to put the book down so my husband could sleep. This book is different though. It's more heartfelt and not as crazy. Don't read this book for the romance. Read it for the laughs, the banter and a bit of a crazy mystery. Don't start with Saving Mr. Perfect. Start with Stealing Mr. Right. Relationship growth is a big plotline in this book and you have to understand Penelope's relationships with people in the first book to see how they've changed (and how devastating it is).
I think people that enjoyed the early Stephanie Plum books will feel right at home with Penelope Blue.
I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.
I love the characters, but the plot was slow and lacking in some way. (If I - the worst mystery-solver on the plant - can figure out who the baddie is by the halfway point, things are a little too obvious.) But Penelope and Grant and all of the side characters are total delights and it's worth reading just for them.
After reading the first book in this series, Stealing Mr. Right, I have been waiting for this book. It was instant love for Penelope and Grant. The witty banter between them had me laughing the whole time in the first book. They are back at it again in this book. Only this time, Grant and Penelope are on the same side as husband and wife. Yep, Penelope could not say no as Grant had stolen her heart.
There is still the witty banter but I found myself left with a few less laughs. Partly because Penelope was a semi-retired thief so her antics were not in full force. Yet, her antics as an "uncover spy" were pretty entertaining. Grant is a saint. He has so much patience for Penelope. They are kind of like the modern day Ricky and Lucy. Then there was the addition of Grant's boss, Christopher Leon. He sure helped to kept things interesting with his flirting with Penelope and his sticky fingers on helping Grant with the case. I am all in for the third book.
This is the second book in the Penelope Blue series by Tamara Morgan.
I had a hard time getting into this book. The point of view kept changing from chapter to chapter and there were two characters with similar C names that I confused them here and there through the story.
Overall the story was pretty good but there were a heck of a lot of people in this and not too many were that well developed. Since I didn’t read book one, I knew I was missing a whole chunk of backstory and got little reminders as I read through the plot points.
The mystery was nice and the red herrings where all well placed but there was just something about this that did not resonate with me. I don’t think I will be continuing on with the series. Just not my style. I think the thing I had the hardest time with was that Penelope didn’t want to turn her life away from being a thief. She was okay with it and that is not something I want to focus on in my life at this time.
Oh no, this isn't a Toby Daye book. Stupid library due dates.
This was fine, but . . . maybe this was really just a one book premise? The first book was fun and cat and mouse-y, but now things are out in the open and it's not so fun. Also
I'm glad that we got a little bit of Grant's POV mixed in with Penelope's in this one. Not much, mind (I'd say 75% her POV, 25% his -- maybe less, actually). It did help me to get a better feel for his character.
I liked this one. I like this series and Morgan's writing in general. But I must admit, this one was a bit of a slower read for me. Slower being a subjective term here, as it took me three days to read -- not a terribly long time, by any means, but a bit longer than I usually average for a book, even when I'm busy. The only thing I can say is I wasn't fully pulled into the story all the time.
I will say I have some issues with Penelope, as her character comes across as inconsistent -- she's supposed to be very competent about what she does (jewel heist) and for the most part she is, but there's also many times when she's almost . . . annoyingly naive about things and nearly TSTL with her actions. I noticed this in the first book, too, but I was hoping to see a change or growth in this one, and I just didn't get that.
The romance, both in book 1 and 2, is definitely not the big part of the story. As a romance, these books are a bit of a dud for me. As a jewel heist/mystery/light suspense story, it's good, something I can easily see as a show or movie. But the romance itself is mostly MIA -- sex, for sure, but even the actual romance progression is not on page.
I will say things took a turn around the last 20% or so. I wasn't expecting any of that, so kudos to Morgan for that.
All in all, this series is bit of a fun read, but if you're looking for a strong romance with your jewel heist story, you're not going to find that here. Which isn't necessarily a problem, by the way, but I think you should know in advance what you're getting. :)
I'm curious to see where their story goes from here.

Penelope has given up her life of crime, and she and Grant are settling into their marriage. Only one problem – Pen really doesn’t thrive as a housewife, and she misses her relationships with her jewel thief friends. She needs a challenge.
Fortunately or unfortunately there is a new thief in town, the Peep-Toe-Prowler, a thief of high stakes jewels from wealthy socialites. Some folks at the FBI think that thief is Penelope Blue. Some, like Grant, think it’s an inside job by the new head of his division. Pen thinks it’s her stepmother Tara who is coincidentally back in town.
Pen’s friends have blueprints for a museum with a $10 million dollar diamond necklace. Her grandmother’s friends are having a charity ball at that self-same museum, and Grant’s new boss ‘accidentally’ shoots him in the back landing him in surgery and a prolonged hospital stay.
With Grant out of action, it is up to Pen to solve this one, redirecting suspicion to someone else, and protecting Grant from another attempt on his life.
Saving Mr. Perfect is an entertaining read with lots of twists and turns and some real surprises. We learn more about some characters and want to know more about others. This is another good installment in this new series.

Saving Mr. Perfect is the continuation in the Penelope Blue series by Tamara Morgan. An entertaining tale providing wittiness and mystery making it an exciting read for a good weekend.
Penelope is a former jewelry thief. She is still trying to find her way in her current non-criminal life, but things are really difficult at the moment. And oh no, there is a new thief in town. Dubbed the Peep Toe Thief, Penelope initially thinks that she is being considered for the crime sprees, but soon learns that that is not the case.
Grant is a hot shot FBI agent. He has solved many cases before, including the one where Penelope was involved. Now married to his biggest case criminal, Grant is trying to find the balance between his job and keeping his wife out of trouble.
Grant knows that Penelope isn’t happy with her current situation. She is bored really and needs something that will bring life back into her day. Grant allows for Penelope to assist with working on the jewelry thief case, but he's adamant that this will be the one and only time. Will Grant and Penelope be able to remain safe while working this case together? Or will one or the other suffer from a loss of life?
I highly suggest reading the first book; Stealing Mr. Perfect before indulging in this second installment. It was an easy, fast paced book and I am curious to see what the next chapter will entail for Penelope and Grant. Intrigued... I would give this book Four stars.
The continuation of the Penelope Blue series is so enticing that you'll find yourself burning through the pages. It is sexy, fun, and intriguing...with the perfect jewelry heists "who done it" to keep you guessing...with a completely surprising ending. The turn of events of the myriad of relationships layered throughout bring added emotions that are endearing.
Grant and Penelope are still the perfect odd couple who will pull at your heartstrings with the depth of their love, despite their differences. One thriving with structure and rules, the other, not so much. Add in the dynamically quirky characters who bring laughter and charm to the story, and you have the perfect mixture to create a story which is worth reading over and over again.
I'm am fervently waiting for the next installment in the series, gauging by the title, I am sure that it'll prove to be laugh out loud entertainment.
This ARC book was complimentary and provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
The FBI and a Jewellery Heist 3.5* This is the second book in a series and I think I would have got more out of it, if I had read the first. I did find it difficult to believe that an FBI agent could marry a jewel thief without being either forced to resign, or at the very least be seriously demoted/transferred to an area where he wasn't investigating jewellery thefts. I also had trouble getting into the relationship between husband and wife where their marriage is described as an "endless game of cat-and-mouse". All the above interfered with my enjoyment of the book but by the latter half I was more in tune with the writing style, the story itself picked up pace and I became more invested in the characters. The ending was a big surprise, which I didn't see coming. I would be happy to read more books by this author. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Loved this book! This is a fun cat and mouse mystery that had me guessing until the very end - there were twists and turns that I never could have predicted.
Penelope is a reforming (sort of) jewel thief married to Grant, an FBI agent...what could go wrong with that? Despite being very much in love, they are both keeping secrets from each other while each tries to protect the other.
Grant is particularly worried about Penelope because there is a thief steeling jewels all around the city while making the FBI think that it's Penelope committing the crimes. Penelope decides to investigate the thefts herself and to try to smoke out the real thief. However, nothing goes as she predicts and she finds herself in a very uncomfortable position.
This one kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible, yet sorry when it ended. Fans of the genre will love this book and will want to put it at the top of their TBR list.
I really enjoyed this second book in the Penelope Blue series. Penelope has retired from her career as a jewel thief in deference to her husband Grant's career as an FBI agent. The problem is that now her life seems dull and the story of the new Peep Toe Burglar seems to be causing a problem with Grant. Add to the mix an obnoxious agent seemingly bent on one-upping Grant ( he shot him in the back once with a paint ball) and you have a bit of stress between Pen and Grant. There is just enough suspense mixed with the increasing heat between Pen and Grant to make this a fun read. I liked the new people that were added in with the old thievery gang. We also learned lot more information about Pen's past and her relationship with her dad and his second wife. There's a nice twist at the end and I look forward to the next book to see how this couple keeps their opposites attract marriage going.
Yes, I really tried. Really, really tried. But I just couldn't finish this book. The blurb was funny, so I thought it would be a fun read. Even though I had not read the first part. The story is original (or so it seems). But I've been struggling through the pages since August. And now I've decided to give up.
The thing is, it isn't written in a bad way. But the characters just don't appeal to me. So, yes, Penelope Blue you were a burglar. And yes, you married a FBI agent. But don't go behind your husband's back and don't pout at your burglar friends that they don't include you in their activities any more. It feels that she can't make up her mind whether she wants to be a burglar or not.
Maybe if I had read the first part, the characters would have grown on me. But now? Nope, no chemistry here.
So, I'm sorry. But I didn't finish this one. So, two out of five stars from me. And a thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
I was lucky enough to read the first book in the Penelope Blue series and I absolutely loved it (5/5 stars all the way!)-- I loved it enough to email the author, which I almost never do. I put this book- Saving Mr. Perfect- on my to read list and anxiously awaiting the release. I received the book for free from Netgalley. I was not obligated to review it, but was sure that I would. I was positive that I would enjoy it. It did not disappoint. Now, while it was not as good as the first book, it was still quite good. I love the characters-- all of them. I love the relationship between Penelope and Grant. I do wish that more of it had been highlighted in this book though-- I could have done with some more steamy encounters. It kept me guessing until the end. I again, am looking forward to her next book.
Received an ARC for my fair review for netgalley. This is the second installment in the series, and I did enjoy it. Penelope is hilarious, when you hear what she is thinking you can't help but to like her. This book featured a lot of Grant thoughts, and I really liked that, you see how much he loves Pen, and would do anything to keep her safe. I was a little disappointed with Riker, he knew everything that Tara had done to Pen, and yet he was with her, I did understand how Pen felt betrayed, because if anyone knew what she went thru, it was him. Tara came along way, and we also got caught up with the rest of the crew. But I am truly happy that Pen and Grant worked thru their problems.
Smashing, funny, sexy and brilliant! FBI hottie marries jewel thief and can't be happier until his boss starts acting suspiciously like a suspect. The logical suspect for the Peep-toe thief is Penelope but she's turned lawful citizen, who is it? Her old team, her stepmother, or the agent? Twists and turns will keep you busy and never guessing correctly. This is the second story for Penelope Blue and could be read by itself but you miss the connection between Pen and Grant, her past and her friends. Read the series in order you'll get more from the story. My copy was from Netgalley and my review written voluntarily.
I'm loving this series! It's light and fun, but smart enough you can't just breeze through it, you have to pay attention. The theme of family is very prominent in this one, but not heavy-handed, and I especially enjoyed the development of Penelope's relationship with her one-time (still?) stepmother, Tara.
I admit I figured out the ending well in advance, and there's a throwaway line midway that rather spoiled a big reveal down the road, but everything was still so fun and clever that I didn't really mind. I could use a little more Penelope-Grant time - here's hoping for more in the next installment. ;)
This was a light, fun holiday read that I really enjoyed.
It does not take itself at all seriously and the characters are well drawn and likeable. Telling the story from several different perspectives was a nice touch which added a bit of extra personality to the tale.
"Saving Mr. Perfect' is heavily skewed to a female audience but happily, the romance aspect was not over done and did not detract from the overall plot.
I liked this one so much that I have requested the sequel from my local library.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
I liked this one more than the first - it's probably closer to 4.5 stars. I feel like the author recognized her flashback mistakes from the first one, so limited them to the first half of the novel. I also loved getting Grant's pov.
A decent job of keeping me wondering who was guilty was also done. I suspected the guilty party relatively quick, but certain twists left me unsure enough that I stayed interested.
What a fun book. She's a jewel thief and he's an FBI agent who has previously investigated her. When a string of crimes are committed that resemble her MO, she jumps out of retirement to help her husband with the investigation...even though he is against it. This book was a joy to read and kept me engaged to the end.
