Lisa Renee Johnson’s debut novel Dangerous Consequences is honestly one of the best debut novels I have ever read. I was literally captivated from Chapter One and was never let go. Dangerous Consequences is a fast- paced, suspense filled, dramatic curve ball that will keep you turning the pages. I felt as connected to the characters as they were connected to each other.
The author did an excellent job developing each character’s story line and then intersecting the stories. The editing was superb and it was refreshing to read grammatically correct literature. I was actually dreading having to turn the page because I knew I was getting close to the end and I really didn’t want this story to be over. Luckily for me, the author has a sequel coming and I can’t wait for the release date!!

2.5 stars. .....POSSIBLE SPOILERS....
*sigh* I am a bit disappointed in this book. I am a big fan of this author but this book was just not there for me. We have a group of friends that all have secrets. Yeah their secrets are that they are all lying, two faced, cheating idiots. Over and over the men justify what they do when their wife's are not around and then the women deal with it cause "this is what a man does". What crap is that. I didn't feel that any of the women had any type of back bone at all. Joi, maybe towards the end started growing one.
Then the ending. After reading about how 5 of them try to cover up one thing after another the story leaves you hanging. There is not necessarily a cliff hanger but the story is just not finished. I have not yet decided if I will read the second book. I have a pretty good idea where the rest of the story is going. I just didn't like any of the characters. Well, I take that back, I liked the nosy neighbor Barbara.

Sexy, steamy, suspenseful and non-stop page turning drama that captures the reader from beginning to end. Donathan and Sydney James are a powerhouse couple who seem to have it all despite the ensuing action happening all around them with their close friends. However, life as they know it takes a drastic change when a psychotic woman insinuates herself into their "perfect" life. All of the characters are intertwined in each other lives and as the novel comes to its climactic, cliff-hanging ending, more is revealed about those connections. At the conclusion of this book, the couple physically makes it through their ordeal but mentally and emotionally life will never be the same. Plus "Hurricane Austyn" is still on the loose. I'm definitely looking forward to reading this novel's sequel titled Surviving the Chase. I'm sure it's going to be epic. Happy Reading!

Solid Debut by Johnson
Sydney and Donathan James seem to be the perfect married couple in “Dangerous Consequences” by Lisa Renee Johnson. Sydney is a successful pediatric neurosurgeon and her husband is a well-known psychologist. On paper the Jameses have a life to envy. All seems well until Donathan’s infidelities are no longer a secret and Sydney then seeks comfort in the arms of another.
Johnson’s writing style makes “Dangerous Consequences” an exceptional read as it keeps the reader engaged because it is fast-paced and full of drama. While infidelity and revenge are typical storylines used, Lisa Renee Johnson’s debut novel is full of suspense, has complete character development with a multi-layered storyline which kept me excited to flip the pages. I look forward to reading more work from Lisa Renee Johnson.

A real page-turner with flesh-and-blood characters, believable situations, and references to familiar Bay Area locations. The ending left me wanting more---like a sequel! This reader wondered what happens next, and how the various situations will resolve.

Meet Sydney, Donovan, Tony, Tyrese, Joy, and Payton. They are fine, fit, financially savvy, and living life on the ball. Behind the exterior of their ‘perfect’ lives lies deception, dysfunction, and discontent. They are all living a lie.
Sydney is the sexy, straight-laced neurosurgeon married to Donovan “The Sex Doctor” James. His local celebrity status frequently places them on the A-list of all that is happening. It’s a place they are comfortable with. Sydney knows her man is fine, sexy, and is all that along with a bag of chips. And he’s all hers….right?
Donovan has it made. A sexy, successful wife who loves everything about her man and who makes him her priority. He’s got the job, the girl, the money, and the respect of his peers, as well as a few other perks to brighten his already sparkly world. Things couldn’t be better. Then enters Austyn.
Tyrese is just that guy. Former NBA player turned sports commentator. He’s used to the high life, the women, and the glamour. He has money, prestige, a devoted wife and two precious children. Trouble is, he can’t seem to stay monogamous to save his life….or his marriage.
Joi has toed the line, giving in to whatever her husband desires. She loves him. Always has. For her, he is a dream come true. And the lifestyle he has provided her with certainly doesn’t hurt either. She grew up poor and knows that being rich is definitely better! She’ll do whatever it takes to maintain the life she’s become accustomed to. Trouble is, she can’t seem to make her heart not feel the pain of her husband’s frequent indiscretions.
Tony is a cool laidback cat with much swagger. Women just love him, but he has a lot on his plate with caring for a dying loved one. Then he crosses paths with one woman willing to make him give his heart. But are her issues too much for a stable guy like him to handle?
Payton is self-absorbed, narcissistic, and out to get hers at any cost. She doesn’t care who she screws….literally. Anything she wants is fair game, even if she has to step all over the next person to get it. Unresolved issues from her past has turned her into this cold, calculating woman. But will she run away the one man who loves her with no strings attached?
This group of friends are having quite a time of keeping up with appearances when all of their unresolved issues land right in their laps, begging to be addressed. The tight knit group could really use the strength and support of each other, but how are they supposed to be help when their own lives are crumbling at their feet? When the dust settles who will remain standing? Will their pack remain in place?
Lisa Renee Johnson has written quite a story. From the starting words until the last, she has brought the intensity, the passion, the fire. Dr. Donathan “Sex Doctor” James and Sydney James are a couple who seem to have a perfect life. Although the couple have a active sex life, Donathan does occasionally sleep with other women, when he meets Austyn Greene, this creates a situation that is both dangerous and deadly.
Sydney is confused by Donathan’s change in behavior and feels neglected so she begins to explore a friendship with a her co-worker Miles. While she doesn’t have physical sex with Miles, she does open herself up to him emotionally and lets him perform oral sex to her.
In a secondary story, Peyton and Tony (both Donathan and Sydney’s friends) are having a secret affair despite Tony being married. Peyton loves the freedom that sex with married men provides (no strings attached) but over time, she becomes frustrated that Tony only calls her when he wants sex.
Tyrese (Donathan’s friend) is married to Joi and is constantly denying to his wife that he’s cheating on her. Although he is cheating on her, he doesn’t feel that she needs to know. Joi decides to hire a private investigator to find out ifTyrese is cheating but to get surprise, Tyrese pays to private investigator off to keep his marriage intact.
I enjoyed this book due to the amount of character development used to create realistic characters. The author also does a great job in seamlessly switching back and forth between each of the storylines which makes the reader care even more about how each of the stories are going to turn out.

Lisa Renee Johnson’s Dangerous Consequences was a good book—but just that, good. There was betrayal, plenty of drama, and lots of twists and turns. What I struggled with most, however, was the constant switch in storytelling perspectives. For example, I never quite understood the importance of Joi and Tyreese’s storyline, and then in the sequel (Surviving the Chase), Joy and Tyreese were hardly mentioned at all—aside from maybe one brief reference near the end.
Going into the sequel, I was also under the impression that the story would continue to focus primarily on Sydney and Donathan. Instead, their story made up only about 40% of the book, with the spotlight shifting to other side characters. Honestly, I didn’t like that the main characters had to share their space with less important storylines. In Surviving the Chase, Payton and Austyn became the central focus, which felt like a big departure from what Dangerous Consequences set up.
And then there’s the ending of the second book—it left so many unanswered questions. If you enjoy drama and constant cliffhangers, you’ll probably enjoy both books. But for me, the unresolved storylines and lack of closure were frustrating.
That said, the writing itself was solid—creative, dramatic, and engaging. For that, I’ll give it three stars.
P.s. to even further my point, the front page of the book is supposed to be a picture of Donathan, but the story doesn’t primarily discuss Donathan and his story.

Instead, their story made up only about 40% of the book, with the spotlight shifting to other side characters. Honestly, I didn’t like that the main characters had to share their space with less important storylines. In Surviving the Chase, Payton and Austyn became the central focus, which felt like a big departure from what Dangerous Consequences set up.
And then there’s the ending of the second book—it left so many unanswered questions. If you enjoy drama and constant cliffhangers, you’ll probably enjoy both books. But for me, the unresolved storylines and lack of closure were frustrating.
That said, the writing itself was solid—creative, dramatic, and engaging. For that, I’ll give it three stars.
P.s. to even further my point, the front page of the book is supposed to be a picture of Donathan, but the story doesn’t primarily discuss Donathan and his story.

This is Lisa Renee Johnson’s debut novel and I would say she did a great job. Ms. Johnson does a fantastic job developing the story-line of six characters and tying them together. I am a stickler about character development especially when dealing with more than two main characters because it can be confusing, but giving each character/plot a chapter helped tremendously. We have two marriages dealing with infidelity and two lovers also dealing with the same issue. You also have the wonderful nosy neighbor that adds a little humor and extra drama to the story. Donathan, Sydney, Tyrese, Joi and Payton eventually deal with the dangerous consequences of one bad decision and the dominoes continue to fall. The story did leave me with some unanswered questions like what happened with the car accident and Sydney’s guilt that she may have caused it and the ending and the possible ties Ms. Greene has with everyone. There definitely has to be a sequel to this story. Overall, this was a fun and refreshing book and I look forward to reading the sequel and other stories by Ms. Johnson.

What an awesome read! I finished this book in 24 hours! Donothan and his crew were full of drama. The ladies were not slacking either. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. In my opinion, this is the beginning of a great series. I loved all of the characters but I need more! Please continue with this great story I have lots of unanswered questions.

This one really lets you see how curiosity could possibly kill the cat just as much as their are truly some dangerous consequences with the smallest of things even when they shouldn't be done. Had to,sometimes, keep flipping back a few times to make sure I under stood things correctly. A entertaining and relaxing read

This book was a surprise, but in a good way!! I started off reading this book thinking it would just be about one couple but it actually tells the story of the couples friends as well. EVERYONE in this story has a secret!! Messy with a dash of spice. Very good read & I’m excited to read the sequel!!

I won this book in 2017 from a Goodreads giveaway and I finally got around to reading it. I enjoyed it. I didn’t want to stop reading. I will be reading the sequel to this. The ending left me wanting to know more.

Jonathon James and his wife were out of control when it came to their secrets. The characters were not likeable or believable for me. The older neighbor, Ms. Barbara, was the most interesting one in this story because she was the quintessential "prying" neighbor. I gave the book 2.5 🌟s.

There were a lot of loose ends. I finished this book thinking what in the world is going on. Did I read a book out of order. Is there more books to come or was there a book before this one. I am just confused.

I thought it started with an expectation of potential. But it went all kinds of ways. None of them focusing on the main storyline. Then I thought, okay this is just about a group of friends with their own storylines. But I couldn’t figure how anything was related to anything. 🤷🏼♀️

This was a good mystery book, I am glad I waited to read this right before the second book was released because the way this endedI would be truly upset. I really hope the next book answers my questions and does not leave it open.

Hmmmm. Never again. So many loose ends. Those men are liars and irresponsible. I cannot. The book was not well written and not detailed enough. Jumps around and left unfinished with scenes/chapter. Lowkey mad, it could have been something. I'm just left with so many questions, too many questions that it is annoying.
