So this wasn't bad, but it was missing that something that makes for a great DP comic.
Kinda like Deadpool wasn't Deadpool-y enough, if that makes sense?
He's rich, beloved my the unwashed masses, and (unbelievably) also an Avenger.
What. The. Actual. Fuck.
To me, that sort of ruined it. Part of Deadpool's shtick is that he wants to be an Avenger, or he mistakenly thinks he's an Avenger...but he's never an Avenger.
Imho, it's a special kind of blasphemy that he's on the team.
Ok, beyond that, it's almost like Wade is semi-lucid. I mean, yeah, he's still nutty, but not the normal DP level of nutty. He's doing nice stuff, being somewhat helpful, and (in general) trying to do the right thing.
Nooooo. Just...gross.
But this wasn't some sort of train wreck to read, either. Even if I'm not a huge fan of this new and improved Deadpool, I can't complain that the storyline was incoherent.
Wilson has formed a team of C-list also-rans, and is calling them the Heroes For Hire. <--Luke Cage is thrilled!
But someone is trying to undo all of Wade's good deeds, and expose a painful (forgotten) memory from his past.
Honestly, it's not hard to figure out whodunnit, so don't expect much of a mystery.
It helps if you've read the Deadpool Annual with the Madcap story...
Then again, this is a DP comic, so you're probably not picking it up for the intricate plot details. This is funny and charming in different way than usual, so if you've been looking for a kinder, gentler, more PG-13 Mr. Pool, check this one out.

Two and one half stars rounded as far as it can go.
At what point did reading superhero comics take a back seat to watching a superhero movie or TV show?
I couldn’t tell you; it seems to have been something that’s snuck up on me.
The creative comic book powers have been tapped to send the flow of good-times energy current from the printed word to the cinematic world.
I get it; the films generate tens of millions in profit. Collectively the book sales don’t come close. It’s a business decision and businesses are around to make money. The tail is now wagging the dog. It seems the movies “borrow” every decent idea from the comics and dress it up like a cheap and shiny five-dollar hooker.

Comic books have been an important part of life since I was four. Growing up the only super hero moving pictures available were crappily animated cartoons. Back then, I’d have sold my pet cat, Freddie, for a chance to see my comic book heroes cavort on the big screen for reals. And forget about the merchandise available then - I had to use a trash can lid if I wanted to play Captain America or my sister’s jump-rope if I wanted to replicate Daredevil’s billy-club cord thingy. Action figures – feh! Crayon some Spidery stuff on a naked GI-Joe and viola you have Spider-Man. Webs? That doily that it took Mom a three weeks to sew or crochet or whatever. “Why is it green and charred, Ma? I was using my chemistry set to do experiments on Spidey/GI Joe.”
Post-Secret Wars I can name a handful of Marvel books that I actually looked forward to reading and, of those, two have been cancelled. Reading most super hero comic books lately reminds me of watching SpongeBob with my kid. It was rollicking good times for a while until Spongebob and Patrick just decided to just show up and draw a paycheck – SpongeBob had that new, creepy, higher pitched voice and Patrick’s “dumb” jokes just got more simpleminded. And what the hell’s with Mr. Krabs having a whale daughter?
A spark is missing, comic books serve some sort of “higher” end instead of just being an amusing diversion. I understand that things like art forms, change, grow, evolve, but does that mean the capacity to engage, entertain and have fun has to be discarded?
Comic books have always had a bottom-line, but that bottom line, like a Limbo poll has been lowered to a painful, back-breaking height.
Okay, Stan Lee! First, no one asked you to make a cameo in my review. Second, (*sigh*) I’ll never stop reading Marvel comics. Never.

The Deadpool books are emblematic of the new Marvel comix line. Give the reader just enough to reel him or her in – nothing special, but nothing you can thumb your nose at either. Reading most of Marvel’s output feels like “product”, reading them feels like settling – characters and stories are the comic book equivalent of baseball’s minor leagues – if you can throw a curve ball (come up with something semi-memorable), we’ll see you in the big time/silver screen, kid.

What’s happening in this book?
The plot of a Deadpool book is usually secondary to how many off-kilter jokes a writer can deliver. Well, not anymore. Deadpool is multitasking.
He’s now a member of the Avengers and he also runs his own mercenary group, all of whom dress up as Deadpool, because you can never have enough Deadpools. Am I right?
The mercs-for-hire are a collection of also-rans who manage to squeeze Deadpool, and as a consequence, most of the funny, out of this book. Meta-humor (and you get lots of that now when you read Deadpool) is an additive, a sort of bonus, like MSG, that gets written into these books, because Marvel wants to appear hip and trendy.
Stan Lee isn’t writing this one…
(I imagine the cologne smells like Tigra slept in the dumpster behind the local Waffle House)
…so the story doesn’t follow the conventional straight and narrow. It’s another let’s-throw-plot-lines-at-the-wall-and-see-what-the-kid’s-will-dig volume.

Bottom Line: Duggan’s written some good Deadpool in the past (Deadpool: Dracula's Gauntlet), but at this point it doesn’t matter who writes these books, they just have to connect the dots for Marvel. This volume did just enough – a smile here, a “gee, that’s sort of clever” there, a sort of fun Deadpool-ism skulking in the corner.

The post-Secret Wars Deadpool is a busy man. Mirroring his popularity in our universe, he has become a mega-star. He's on billboards, is making a mint selling Deadpool merchandise and has even become an Avenger! (I know; I guess Steve Rogers is big on second chances...)
On top of all this, he's decided to start up his own team of Heroes For Hire (Danny and Luke are not going to be happy about the name). His HFH team consist of some pretty obscure Marvel characters (Foolkiller, Madcap, Slapstick, Solo, Stingray and Terror) some of whom have worked almost exclusively on the wrong side of the law (I know; I guess Wade Wilson is big on second chances)... Wade has also made them all dress in duplicates of his Deadpool costume.
Everything's hunky dory until somebody dressed in a Deadpool outfit starts murderising people...
I was unsure on the new status quo for the first couple of issues but, by the time I reached issue three, I was sold and really, really enjoying it. I'm looking forward to seeing where this creative team takes this book next.

Ever since Deadpool was made an Avenger (do they turn away anyone?!) his real world popularity has translated to the Marvel U’s as well and he’s been making a buck on his image selling all kindsa crap with his face on - he’s become the Merch with a Mouth! He’s so in demand he’s even hired a group of Marvel’s least-loved characters to put on his outfit and pretend to be him on merc missions and public appearances: Deadpool’s Heroes for Hire! And then “Deadpool” starts murdering government officials. What’s bad about that? “Deadpool’s” doing it for free! This wannabe’s crossed the line…
Longtime Deadpool writer Gerry Duggan and artist Mike Hawthorne try out a new situation for everyone’s favourite regeneratin’ degenerate by making him rich and famous… and it’s just sorta ok.
Out of Deadpool’s Heroes for Hire, I only recognised a couple characters - Madcap and Foolkiller (he kills fools. With a walking stick. For realsies!) - but they’re meant to be super obscure picks. Completing the lineup is Solo, Terror, Slapstick, and Stingray. I can’t believe no-one remembered these cats with names like that(!).
Unfortunately they’re mostly as uninteresting as they’ve always been and pootle around while Wade figures out which one of them done the murders. I did laugh though when they showed Luke Cage’s face after he saw Deadpool’s ad for his own Heroes for Hire!
Hawthorne’s art is pretty good with some very swish action scenes scattered throughout the story but there wasn’t anything that amazing or original here. Same with Duggan’s story which just wasn’t that exciting or engaging. The reveal is a callback to earlier in the Duggan/Posehn run and is kinda meh, and a lot of the cliffhangers are red herrings. I thought Deadpool would get up to some nuttier shenanigans with his cash but he doesn’t do anything you haven’t seen him do before.
Millionaire with a Mouth is a decent Deadpool book but nothing special and is ultimately pretty forgettable. Looking forward to the next one though - Deadpool 2099!

Gerry Duggan continues his signature run on Deadpool. A lot has changed since the last volume. Deadpool is now funding the Avengers and has his own team of Deadpools. Deadpool also must discover who is targeting him and trying to ruin his life.

This was so much fun lmao!
So it starts with Deadpool being rich and all and he has got his own team now and we follow him and his team on crazy missions and the opening with Solo was so much fun and while they are not getting paid gigs as they are all heroic now so that has put a dent in their earnings and thus the problems with money come into view and the team is sort of against deadpool and meanwhile someone is kiling as deadpool and thus we follow Wade and Steve Cap as they hunt down the killer and turns out its MADCAP and thus begins the hunt for him and the big battle and maybe some nod to his mysterious origins and whatever is going on with Shiklah?!
Its a crazy fuelled comic and it does it so well like omg having multiple sub plots, giving humanity to a character like wade and introducing so many new elements and introducing the villain from the past and doing it all in one comic? Just genius writing and the characterization and continuity is spot on, just loved it! Plus the art by Hawthorne and the colors are god tier!

Duggan, what have you done to Deadpool?!
Maybe it's because I've been reading Way's run, but this SUCKED! The story was all over the place, kinda hard to follow and more or less interesting.
So, Deadpool is now the most famous man in the world. He even has a company called Deadpool's Heroes For Hire!
He has a team of some of the most insignificant characters in the Marvelverse...
And even has his own stores, where he sells exclusive Deadpool merchandise.
Sounds great, right?
WRONG.
This was just plain bad... It lacked the Deadpool charm, a proper story, and good storytelling.
Just a waste of time.

Some Deadpool titles are just too silly and stupid to be enjoyed. This edition has more balance, the humor is less ridiculous, still enjoyable but not ha-ha funny, and Deadpool seems to be just a little kinder and more benevolent as is writer Gerry Duggan has sanded off his rough edges.
Deadpool now has money, and he invests it in helping prop up the strapped Avengers. That may be what finally earns him a membership role on the team, although that's not what this book is about.
Deadpool sets ups a team of Deadpool-costumed associates (Solo, Foolkiller, Terror, Slapstick, Madcap,Stingray) as Heroes For Hire. When Luke Cage objects to the use of that name, they become Mercs For Money.
Because of the public exposure, Deadpool's popularity ratings grow until someone starts committing brutal crimes in a Deadpool costume - and the ratings go down. There's a traitor among their team with a grudge.
Along with Duggan's competent storyline, the art style of Mike Hawthorne really gets to shine here. He's great at depicting action scenes (very fluid and fun to view) and a master at indicating moods (disgust, joy, pure silliness) in facial expressions and body language.
Fun to read, but just shy of a four star rating for me - - - 3.5 Stars is perfect.

I'm giving this volume 3 stars out of generosity and because I liked the art. The story itself was very messy and confusing.

First things first. I love Deadpool.
Deadpool is the only character who I kept reading and read everything there is again and again since the day I found out about him back in the 90s.
Hmm maybe add Wolverine to that too. Also, Batman. Oh well. But yeah, you get my point. Deadpool is the SHIT.
But now... Seriously, what the HELL was THAT?
Seriously. Is this a FORMULA Marvel is having in mind? Like, the more popular a character gets the SHITTIER the stories of him in the comics will be? ARE YOU FOR REAL PEOPLE?
This was absolutely mediocre at BEST. And that's coming from the guy who was willing to forgive Daniel Way for the 3 voices thing and for making Deadpool being a stupid cartoon most of the times and sounding like he's just plain DUMB and nothing else.
Hey HEY. No-one says he's a genius.. but. Still.
Anyway, and now, the movie is out. New Series is out! YAY
Actually-- NAYYYY.. Long story short. Deadpool is famous (what the fuck? Really?) And he's got lots of money and he's hiring a BUNCH OF FUCKING UNINTERESTING D-LISTERS to make a team to save people and stuff. Ugh. FINE. I'll run with it. OK. SURE. And they have THEM wearing Deadpool's suit. Major facepalm. And then they became the Rainbow gang with different colours. UGH.
And then something INTERESTING happens-- SOMEONE is OUT to get Deadpool targeting his friends and shit. That kinda lift things up. Yeap. I'll admit it was nice.. until I found out who he was *facepalm* and it wasn't at all interesting or funny.. OH WAIT--
the "FUNNY" stuff in this volume are non-existent. Ok, no. I'm being mean. There were a couple of fun moments. 5 Issues for 3-or-4-silent-under-the-breath-haha's. THUMBS UP TO THAT!
You'll laugh much more watching Stephen King's KUJO than that shit right here. No. You'll laugh MUCH MORE watching people commit mass suicide. NO. You'll laugh MUCH MORE watching babies cry...yeah. Exactly. That's how "fun" it was.
It was a pile of confusing no reason to be happening no logic piece of garbage and waste of time. Made me feel like reading Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars. Oh, happy flashbacks to misery and cringing.

Mercs For Money series also SUCK too thus far.
ALSO I saved the best for the end... The End. Yes. The end of this volume has absolutely NO feeling for closure. The reader gets a NO END.. it actually ends with "The End.. for now" with no pay-off whatsoever. It was like reading fucking Shazam from the 70s. Are you FOR REAL?
And to add insult to the injury, Duggan is probably gonna break up Shiklah and Deadpool, for SOME reason which we get no explanation they hate on each other or some shit, cuz Deadpool is too busy doing shit and not being with Shiklah. REALLY NOW? Do you even Deadpool bro? pfff.
If he breaks them off I'm starting a petition to change the writer. I'll fucking create 50 e-mail accounts and send emails to Marvel every damn day to change the writer. Tweet from those accounts to Marvel too. Fuckin Facebook-Tumblr-Pinterest-Message the shit outta them. That's BULLSHIT. Ah, well no I won't do all that. Too lazy for that. But I'll keep being fucking SUPER DISRESPECTFUL to all of that shit I read. You're SUPPOSED TO HAVE YOUR GRADE-A STUFF. And they have THEM wearing Deadpool's suit. Major facepalm. And then they became the Rainbow gang with different colours. UGH.
And then something INTERESTING happens-- SOMEONE is OUT to get Deadpool targeting his friends and shit. That kinda lift things up. Yeap. I'll admit it was nice.. until I found out who he was *facepalm* and it wasn't at all interesting or funny.. OH WAIT--
the "FUNNY" stuff in this volume are non-existent. Ok, no. I'm being mean. There were a couple of fun moments. 5 Issues for 3-or-4-silent-under-the-breath-haha's. THUMBS UP TO THAT!

ALSO I saved the best for the end... The End. Yes. The end of this volume has absolutely NO feeling for closure. The reader gets a NO END.. it actually ends with "The End.. for now" with no pay-off whatsoever. It was like reading fucking Shazam from the 70s. Are you FOR REAL?
And to add insult to the injury, Duggan is probably gonna break up Shiklah and Deadpool, for SOME reason which we get no explanation they hate on each other or some shit, cuz Deadpool is too busy doing shit and not being with Shiklah. REALLY NOW? Do you even Deadpool bro? pfff.
If he breaks them off I'm starting a petition to change the writer. I'll fucking create 50 e-mail accounts and send emails to Marvel every damn day to change the writer. As my first Deadpool, I liked this so much more than I expected to. I don't have any experience with Duggan writing anything else, but he sure can write the hell out of Deadpool. This was funny. I think I expected a tired slapstick in which my laughs would be obligatory- it wasn't like that at all. There were many times I found myself laughing out loud. I expected Deadpool to be obnoxious and tiring and he is anything but.

I read this Deadpool run as a kid, so this was a fun reread for nostagia. But I noticed a few things lacking this time through.
One issue is that Preston and Adsit don’t tell Wade about his whole thing where he killed his parents… for no real reason. I think it might be because they want to build up to a moment where Wade finds out the truth behind his parents’ death, but that doesn’t really work for me if there’s not a real reason for Wade to know before that.
Another issue was that Wade himself cracks barely any jokes, but even more weird is that I don’t think he made a pop culture reference like once in this entire volume. Which I didn’t hate or anything, since I also dislike the other end of the spectrum in Deadpool comics where Wade is making a joke and pop culture reference literally every panel. But it was a little strange that he was barely cracking jokes at all.
But besides those few gripes, this was still a decently fun read. I like all the different colourful Deadpool suits. And I enjoyed the whole end sequence with Madcap and Deadpool realising that being the famous hero isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Deadpool is back but things have changed. He's now part of the Uncanny Avengers and is a popular hero, rather than simply a mercenary like he was before. He's also hired a bunch of mercenaries to dress as him to do extra Deadpool-ing.
Typically though, not everything is rosy. Deadpool is still not suffering from his past and doesn't even know that he killed his own parents, a secret kept from him for his own good. And now someone is impersonating him and causing chaos in his name.
There's lots of fun to be had here, mainly because you havn't got much of a clue what's going on for the first part of the story. Then there's a sudden shock when someone is impersonating Deadpool and a bit of a mystery about who it is. And when you realise who the impersonate all hell break loose.
It's an interesting idea here to give Deadpool even more of an extended cast. Our friends from the most recent run appear, as do a few Avengers because Deadpool's mates with them now. I like him and the elderly Steve Rogers together, it's lots of fun. But here we are given a group of Mercs who dress as Deadpool and are all awesome in their own way. They're not new characters but they are all fairly obscure. It adds a whole new dynamic to the book and I'm intrigued to where it will go plot-wise.
As with other titles in the All-New, All-Different line-up this does suffer a bit from having a lot to set up. The plot is OK but it's more about setting up the new status quo rather than actually doing anything.
An OK start with lots of potential for some great Deadpool stories to follow.

Not a very good start to series. Weather a story is fractious and difficult to follow is a deal breaker for me. Also considering it's the first volume there should be some effort to build a foundation for the characters. This failed on both accounts leaving a story that was largely confusing/meaningless, and characters I didn't feel I knew very well making it even harder to care about what's happening to them. The art was decent, and suited the story well.
ATM I have about 10 potential superhero runs I'm interested in starting, and I find it hard to justify continuing on with this series. I see Bunn takes over at some point which I enjoyed Harrow county. I will put this one on hold for now, but plan on getting back to it later.
Side note: This might be the first DeadPool title I've read I would be open to suggestion from where to go from here.

Anytime you crack open a Deadpool comic or graphic novel you never know what you’re getting. The writing has to connect and feel like Deadpool or else it fails miserably. The catch here is that Deadpool is now an Avenger but don’t expect a total corporate ‘Pool. This collects issues 1-5 and you get two stories in one arc which sounds confusing but eventually one fades into the background which leaves us with who’s trying to kill the Merc with a mouth.
The great thing is that it’s a Deadpool comic so it doesn’t follow the rules at all but is still an enjoyable book. Dead does seem a little more subdued here yet it still works because it still has the ingredients it needs to be a decent read. You know that the book will go off the rails and it does but it still retains an end point. Deadpool is the hero you can’t help but like because he’s self aware and funny which some comics have tried to duplicate and usually fail miserably at.
Volume 1 of World’s Greatest is a book that could win over those that find this character annoying or it could end up making you hate him more. The point here is that the world needs Deadpool and he’s one of those guys you can’t help but like because while he can be annoying and heartless, he’s also a lot of fun.

I've seen people complain that Deadpool isn't very 'deadpooly' in this comic. There's no fourth wall breaking and violence is kept to a minimum. But Deadpool is an Avenger now, in fact he's the money behind the Avengers. I have to admit I quite liked this Deadpool, trying to be more social responsible and failing. Deadpool is the biggest thing in the marvel universe and this comic reflects that massive popularity with the store and the people wanting selfies and tv interviews. But this is Deadpool and there is always something bad just around the corner. This time it's a killer (?) in his band of heroes for hire and some bad, bad news on its way. Talking of his band of heroes, they are the most obscure heroes ever: Stingray, Solo, Madcap, Terror and so on. I had to Google them to satisfy my curiousity for backstory. It's great though because they fit right in with the trying hard but not quite right vibe Deadpool has going on.
There as a few cameos from other heroes: Old Steve Rodgers is Captain America, Quicksilver, Hawkeye, Matt Murdock.

My overall response to this was "Meh"
I basically read Deadpool for the snark and the fun... neither of which were really in evidence in this instalment.
This graphic novel felt like it was 90% drawn out, rambling setup, with just 10% actually contributing to moving the storyline forward in any way. I might have forgiven that if there'd been a payoff in snark, but there really wasn't.
The only thing I can point to that I really enjoyed was the artwork.
Not sure I'll be reading any of Mr Duggan's Deadpool in the future.

Not as good as Dead Presidents, but still quite fun. This one has lots of Deadpools, but they're not making any money (when they do it's by helping bad guys).
Deadpool is now an Avenger and he's trying to help fund them, but by doing that he's not making any money for himself, or his fellow Mercs. Then it seems like someone's got it in for him - but who?
I did like the artwork, but the story just wasn't quite there. Bit of a shame really.

First off, I feel like I may have missed some goings-on in the greater Marvel universe. And I know that I had initially forgotten some important information from previous Deadpool series that related to this one.
Vol. 1 of Duggan's newest Deadpool run takes some time to get started. The second half is better. This volume does have a lot of what is good about Deadpool. It also takes the character and the series in some different directions that I'm not sure really work. However, with the ongoing improvement of this volume and the promising ending, I believe/hope that this series will still be worth reading.
It wasn't necessarily bad, but it felt like a weaker entry into Deadpool's story. There is certainly still some merit, though, and I look forward to volume 2.

Fun. A little less metatextual than the Deadpools I love. But I've been at enough cons that had such a rich murder of Deadpools, see, e.g., https://www.flickr.com/search/?text=d... that this really tickled me. (at least, I want the collective noun for Deadpools to be murder.) The Big Bad was a little underwhelming, but came by his Deadpool hate honestly. And the idea of Deadpool forming a superhero team of ALL DEADPOOLS makes way too much sense.
