I have many cookbooks in my collection but none on the topic of bodybuilding. Given my inexperience with the subject I wondered if I would be able to understand and keep up with the lingo. To my delight I found it insightful and inspirational. The layout is very similar to most cookbooks that I've read which made it easy to follow. The first chapter put my mind at ease giving an overview of the process as well as things like listing the best fat burning and muscle building foods. I was very appreciative of this since being a newbie I could see how the subject could be a bit complicated and overwhelming. The second chapter was one of my favorites as it gives sample meal plans for the goals you're trying to achieve. The rest of the chapters introduce the surprisingly mouthwatering recipes broken down into topics such as breakfast, beef and desserts. Another detail that I like was that in the table of context where the recipes are listed they also include the calorie, carb, fat and protein numbers for each. I'm very much looking forward to testing out these recipes and incorporating them into a healthier lifestyle. I received a review copy of this book from the publisher.
I got this book from the library in hopes of finding some good pre- and post-workout meals and snacks. I also hoped to learn more about what to eat when in order to get the most energy and replenish correctly.
I found her labels helpful, letting the reader know which recipe works best for which goal. And I did save a number of recipes. But most were a little beyond what I’m looking for...admittedly, I’m not trying to be a bodybuilder! Some ingredients were hard to find or just beyond what I’d do (defatted peanut butter?! I’ll just have the regular) but if you’re really active it’s worth a look.

While the introduction makes claims on accessibility and ease, a quick look through the menus and recipes belies that claim. High dollar ingredients, complex menus that depend on having time to make multiple items for meals, and a focus more on the already fit who merely need a "tune up," this is not a cookbook for normal athletes or people trying to get into shape.
Good basic book with decent recipes... Would have given the book four stars, but it is NOT the ultimate. Just a good basic primer. Still... if you don't have a library of cookbooks already, not a bad addition.
