Rafe thought once he found all the artifacts, he’d finally understand, and the prophecy would set him free. Instead, he finds himself leading what remains of the Rhomanii clans into the far reaches of the unknown, looking for…he doesn’t know what. But the pirate in him sure hopes it involves treasure.
So much is riding on this gamble he’s taking, and the voices in his head aren’t helping matters. Compounding the problem? Not everybody wants him to succeed.
What will happen when they reach their final destination? Will this be the start of a new Rhomanii life, or the end of everything they’ve ever known?
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
I am trying to be fair here on a review for a book whose ending I absolutely HATED. In fact, it supplanted "Me Before You" for my '#1 Most Hated Endings'. Needless to say, before writing this, I needed to take a step back to clear my head and emotions. Especially my emotions. I was fully invested in this series and I felt gutted.
After processing for a few days, I thought to myself: who the hell are you to dictate what the ending SHOULD have been? The author throws convention out the window in this last book and she is brave for doing so. No, I didn't like it. Yes, I was mad. Ultimately though, she evoked quite the swirl of emotions from me. That takes talent. I cared enough about her characters to be affected by what happened to them.
The story picks up where the last one ended, with Rafe leading the voyage "home". The plot was steadily paced and there were a few surprises I foresaw before the doozy of an ending. The characters had me hooked because they were truly unique with what they brought to the story. The imagery is the strongest of all the story's elements. The world that Ms. Langlais created was very detailed and I could tell she put a lot of thought into the mechanics of it.
This really should be read as a series to really understand the context but it's not impossible as a standalone. Though, I caution not to set your hopes on a particular ending as you definitely feel this more keenly if you've invested your time into the rest of the series. Trust me. I don't think I can handle another one of these any time soon, but I can't bring myself to regret having read the series.
Safety: It's hard to cover this without giving the plot away so I will say that there are no lines crossed until the end. No rape or abuse.
4th and final book in the Space Gypsy Chronicles. Science fiction. The first two can be classified as romance. The third maybe. This last one? Not romance. It wraps up the destiny of the main characters but the epilogue once again throws the events into question of who is really in charge.
I read this author for the romance and generally for the humor. I didn’t expect the ending on this one and feel cheated. Again, reminding myself it’s science fiction and not romance. I can’t lower the rating because it was well written and does conclude the character and series however, I’d like to get my 8+ hours back wishing I’d picked one of her other books that I have by the dozen.
Rafe ends up with Annabelle as a disembodied entity. Emma is going to end up with Mikhail and is pregnant with Rafe's twins. The kicker is they stole a set of twins out of Emma's womb and have nefarious plans for them. That's how you end the series?! Are you fucking kidding me?!

I am sad that this fun and entertaining space odyssey romance series come to an end... it's been a wild ride! There have been some major twists and turns that hit me out of left field, and King is no exception.
Rafe, The Chosen One, is finally on the path to the lead his people home to the lost Rhomanii planet. Emma and Mikhail are along for the ride and following Rafe's lead by necessity. That doesn't stop Emma from being a ridiculous damsel in need of saving... but she amazingly still hasn't gotten on my nerves. I found her horrid helplessness amusing most of the time. Mikhail is still the odd man out, which made him a sympathetic figure. He is pining for Emma, hated by his people, and trying to understand a confusing relationship with his brother.
Not only are we following Rafe's path home (including challenges along the way), but there is also a little mystery to solve. Something is not quite right with Rafe and Mikhail... and its not just the voices in their heads! The rivalry between the brothers has its ups and downs, but we saw more instances of cooperation in this final installment.
So many things happened unexpectedly in this series and this book in particular - and they seemed to come out of nowhere. I have seen some people complaining about how the series ends, but I kind of liked all the unexpected weird stuff. I felt like it fit in with the ambiance of the kitschy sci-fi trope. I have admired Eve Langlais' imagination and creativity throughout this series. The technology, aliens and planetary installations were so interesting and fun... and I loved the oversexed humor of our twin heroes. I hopes she writes more series in the sci-fi/space opera trope.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook that I received from the publisher, Tantor Audio.
I love just about ever book Eve Langlais has ever published but the ending to this series is down right horrible. I truly hope things get better for Emma and Rafe. That's not to say that I don't feel for Mikhail too...but I can't even find the right words to describe how dissapointed I am with the way this ended. I feel betrayed for investing emotions on the characters in this series based solely on the ending to the fourth and supposedly finale of the series.
OK, there is a warning that this is a space opera and not a romance. For those wanting the erotic and scifi romance of the first book, go look somewhere else. This is no longer about getting taken along on a space ride and attaching to the alien and vice versa. This has a other man (OM) 3rd party, twin brother, who we have felt for but want the main character to continue on. Then there is the ship that is jealous.
I sorry if I offend here but, I hate how Rafe treats Emma when she tells him about the ship. Emma warns him multiple time of several things, yet he discounts her. I started having Rafe issues from book one but... I let it go. This isn't the HEA that you might want but I liked how it ended, to an extent. I liked how it wrapped up. And I thought there was a little humor to go with the space opera ending too. It was really good but don't expect a HEA OK.
My emotions are all over the place on this one. I was expecting the typical HEA and that is not what the author gave us. The series started out lighthearted with a lovable rogue and sassy earth girl and could have easily ended after the hero and heroine overcame the standard roadblocks to happiness. But it didn't end that way. I raged, cried and screamed "why, why, why?" for some time after I finished the book. These characters were my friends and this could not be their ending. Then I starting thinking a little more coherently. If this had been one of my standard sci-fi reads the ending wouldn't have bothered me so much. It was the expectation of the usual HEA versus the actual ending the author gave us that lead to my emotional reactions. And that's not actually a bad thing in a book. I do like that an author in this genre could surprise me.
I doubt that Eve will read this, but just in case... I am so disappointed with the last 20 pages. I really feel betrayed and manipulated and wonder if you had a brain fart along with your editor and agent. This book and the previous books in the series were very well written and had a great story and awesome characters. Even though I wanted to throw my e-reader against the wall when I finished, I realize that this is solely because of my expectations, so I am giving 5 stars. I am so mad that I can't see myself rereading this series.
Omg! This last book in this series really took me by surprise. As usual Eve Langlais makes you laugh, makes you go oh my, throws in sexual banter and play all while telling a very descriptive story, but this time the ending was a total shock!!! Wow!! I didn't see that one coming!!
My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
So, this is the final installment of the Space Gypsy Chronicles. This has been a hard series to review because if I go into what is going on in this story, it will give away spoilers for the previous books and I don’t like to do that.
Needless to say, the story of Rafe and Emma, Mikhail and the rest of the Rhomanii comes to an end. There is a lot that happens in this book as the Rhomanii finally find their way home. The path on the way home isn’t without its difficulties. Also, home isn’t what is expected either.
There are many things that are brought to life in this final story. Pretty much all of them, caught me by surprise. The ending really caught me by surprise. I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about it. On one hand, I’m not happy with out this ended. On the other, the ending really kept me on my toes. Often, I’ve gone into the end of the series with some idea of how things are going to wrap up in the end. That didn’t happen with this book. I give props to Eve for throwing a huge curve ball at the end.
Narration After reading comments on my previous review with Chandra Skyye, I realized that I beat her up a little too much in my review of her narration. I think the issue that I ran into was listening to two series with this same narrator. It had me listening to her with two completely different stories and hearing similar voices. When I was listening to just one series at a time (with more time between each book), I found that I was used to her and enjoyed the narration. Two series, with the books being released closer together, I found that it was just too much of the same voices. I’m going to stick to one series at time with this narrator from now on.
**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
The conclusion to this series. I will start with my final thoughts. After reading the last past my first thought was wow that was bleeped up. Honestly I struggled with this book. Emma, Rafe, Mikhail and the whole drama of it all. Prophecy, destiny, darkness, voices all of it. I put this book down so many times. I liked Emma's personality, her character was a big reason I kept reading. Rafe lost his 'charm' around book two. Mikhail I rooted for him and his devil may care attitude was great. Okay anyway review... They do find the lost planet. Slightly overgrown with foliage but still slumbering waiting for the king and his....blood. Plenty of things go down, get answered, choices are made and destiny attained or changing.
Picking up where the Rebel left off, Rafe leads his remaining people to the promise land. Rafe and Mikhael are hearing voices, there's assassination attempts and crass sexual innuendos. Rafe hopes for happiness and freedom at the end of their journey is smashed when paradise isn't all it's cracked up to be. Theirs plots and sub-plots, and the story twists and turns ending in a to be continued, partial happy ever after, depending on your point of view and evil plots still unchecked.
I prefer happily ever afters, and since it's unclear if the author is going to write more to tidy up the to be continued portions of the story, and right the wrongs, it reduces my happiness about reading it.
Don't expect a happy ending. I loved all the twists in this series, but this veered so far away from where it started in the beginning. This one was disappointing to me. I always tend to finish a series when I start one. I kinda wished I didn't finish this one. I bawled like a baby. I'm okay with emotional books but I hate getting all emotional for a still sad ending. I should've read reviews before hand. It personal preference though in the end. If you want a happy ending, your not finding it here.
I mean Rafe ends up part of a machine. He can barely remember his life in general. He ends up with Annabelle. Emma is pregnant with Rafe's Twins and it doesnt say it out right, but it hints that she'll end with Mikhail.

Oh my GOD!! WHY EVE WHY! I mean I get that it was kind of happy, as in everybody got something, but no! Just no!! I cried my eyes out! It was a fantastic book and I literally could not put the entire series down, but no!!
Rafe: He was meant to get the girl! Not the AI. He never got to hold his babes.. and Emma! Oh my gosh.. the poor girl! Falling in love with a space pirate, to lose him while pregnant with his babies. Mikhail got the girl in the end, and yes it was bitter sweet, but I swear Miss Langlais, I'm totally billing you for my therapy!
Thank you. for being an amazing author, but you owe me a box of chocolates and some wine now dammit!

Reading this makes me really really sad. Their love was so pure and true and Emma sticks by Rafe threw thick and thin and the bad selfish people get what they all want in the end. Except Emma. I feel heartbroken like ive just lost someone very close to me and it pisses me off. I get that Emma will eventually be happy with Mikhail but only because she was cheated out of her first true happiness. I dont feel like its ture love. True love is selfless. NOT selfish. I hate Annabelle. I dont care about her. I feel ill with how cheated Emma is. Like when Rafe calls Annabelle his Queen. So sick. Stupid ending. I hate it. So dissapointing.. so sad...

The author did liken this series to a rollercoaster ride, and I was trying to figure how all the main characters would end up happy, but that... that I wasn't expecting, and wasn't particularly happy about.
This one has a lot of weird stuff tossed in there, most of it right towards the end. Though I read most of this author's stuff, I'm not sure I'd read more in this universe.
I really enjoyed this series....Until this last book. The ending SUCKS! If you like a "Happy Ever After" ending, this book is NOT for you. I totally feel cheated...Why have the books going in one direction until the last 25% of the last book in the series? Not only do I feel cheated, I feel really angry!
None of this made sense plot wise and the author just destroyed a semifun alphahole for shock value. There were some bits that saved this like Emma’s logic and willingness to question and Fred being ridiculous and self centered but in a good way. Other than that, the gypsies finding they’re homeland completely fizzled out and ruined the entire series.
Okay, didn't see that coming. The ending to the book (series) pulled this book into a 4 star almost a 5 as is grabbed at my emotions. With this series the author moved herself from an erotica Romance writer into Syfy.
The storylines all converge in this, and it all makes perfect sense! There was good and bad, but it all depended on your POV. In the end, everyone adjusted to their existence, so while it wasn’t what we expected, it was good for those involved
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)
I don't know about the ending to this series, but it depends on the definition of HEA. I won't let the cat out of bag, but hang on to your hair. You're in for a rough ride!
