Hope is having a tough time. It's been about 6 months since her divorce, when her husband left her. She's still dealing with the self-validation issues and the feeling of betrayal at the thought of being with anyone else besides the only mans he's ever been with. At her mother's suggestion, she speaks to a therapist, who tells her that she just needs to get out there, try new things, and make new relationships. Hope takes this advice to heart and tries some new hobbies with the help of her best friend, meets some new guys who she spends some time with, and ultimately discovers what it is that she wants in life, and how she can achieve that. While there is some romance thrown in, it's more about Hope's self-discovery after an event that left her shaken and confused.
There are some good things and some bad things about this book, but overall I found it a pretty solid read, hence the rating. I'll start with the negative things. I found that this book moved way too quickly for my liking. I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll just say that I felt like Hope jumped from event to event throughout the book at whirlwind speed. I think that it would've been beneficial to either make the book longer, or take some things out. As it is, there isn't really any filler, since everything contributes to Hope's journey. I think this book needs some more fluff so that the important events aren't so squished together in the novel. Also, I found that some conflicts were over extremely quickly and the super quick pace didn't leave a lot of time to dwell on them.
What I liked was how while there was romance, romance wasn't the important thing in this book. It means something to Hope, but ultimately this book is about how Hope is learning to cope with what she went through. She discovers what she wants to do with her life, what she wants in a relationship, and works on how she can be better as a person. A lot of times in books like these, it's mostly the protagonist being the victim of it all, but I liked how willing Hope was to accept that she wasn't just a victim, and that she played a part in the events that she had gone through.
Overall, while it could've been better, I did enjoy it more than I expected to. I really liked Hope as a character, despite it seeming like she got over things pretty fast. Despite the novel's short length, she goes through a lot of character development that I thought was done nicely. If you're looking for a short and sweet novel I'd definitely say to go for this, but just remember that romance isn't the main thing in this one.

I received a copy for an honest review. This books was hiliarious. We find Hope going through a depressing point in her life and her therapist recommends that she try new things. Well, what ensues is so funny as she does try new things but they always end up totally out of wack. My favorite scene was the tennis match. I can't wait to read the sequel!!

First String by Andrea String is a romance published by Square Gorilla Press Publishing Company. It is about Hope Cruz newly divorced from Matt, who have been together since the 6th grade.
At her therapist urging she goes out and explores the life she never knew existed. She attempts to develop hobbies, such as pottery and rock wall climbing.
She even tries dating new people in her quest to find herself. All of which turn give various experiences and life lessons.
The only issue I had was a personal issue. At one point Hope says she’s depressed but she isn’t “pill popping depressed”. I feel this is offense to those who are depressed enough to be “pill popping depressed”. Other than that one issue I thoroughly enjoyed First String and can’t wait to read Second String.

I received a free copy on Librarything from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. I really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I am rooting for Hope and proud of her for going to therapy and trying different hobbies and dating new men. I can not wait to read about the rest of her adventures.

I wasn't sure what to expect at first. Thought it started out rather raunchy but as the story progressed I got into it and couldn't put it down. Total cliffhanger ending so now I need the next one to see what happens. I'm hooked.
