Rate this book
The Mad Heiress’ Cousin, Fanny Markham has followed Georgette through thick and thin, and stuck by her when she was thrown over by her fiancé. She chased after spies and dukes, but now, with Georgette gone, Fanny’s flamboyant, fragrant aunt is her chaperone. How will she ever get on? It should be her turn, but without Georgette at her side, will fate bring Fanny adventure or heartache?

Isabella Thorne is an author of Regency and Georgian Romance. The first grown-up books she read were historical, authored by Georgette Heyer, Victoria Holt and Anna Seton. Unfortunately, for her own daughters, the beauty and hallmark of Regency Romance, witty dialogue and the manners of the time, have been overshadowed by explicit books instead of true Regency Romance. Regency Romance includes a more formal language, longer sentences and ballrooms instead of bedrooms.

With a return to romance, Isabella Thorne hopes you will enjoy her light fun books. You can share them with your daughters with the guarantee that although there is romance aplenty, and a bit of sexual tension and a kiss, there is nothing explicit in her books. They are clean and wholesome reads with lots of humor and upbeat "fun poking" at the English mannerisms of the time.

Because I love the pageantry of the period, I love to include true events or set stories during a war--the English were involved in so many of them at this time! You will find bits of history scattered through the books and an occasional historical figure, but these books are FICTION and not intended to be a definitive history. None of the Peerage of (any land) actually existed. I hope that all the British and the die-hard historical readers will please forgive this passionate American if I make any mistakes, and send an email off to isabellathorne@christianromancestories.com I will make corrections.

I endeavor to make the heros and heroines true to their time period. That means that many women may seem weak at first glance, but they soon find their inner grit. Unlike today's heroines, the Regency heroine could not openly defy convention at the time. Instead, she had to find a way around the convention. That is half the fun! Likewise, heros were expected to be chauvinistic. In fact, the etymology of chauvinism shows that the word chauvinism did not appear until the late 1800's and then was a pejorative term the English had for the French who continued to be slavishly patriotic to Napoleon. What we call chauvinistic, the Regency called masculine or virile. I will always choose to make my characters as historically correct as possible, even if that means they seem a bit politically incorrect to today's audiences.

I am a meticulous perfectionist who taught AP English for 20 years at the high school level before moving to teach at a community college because I was disheartened by the decline in American education, especially the decline of the reading level. Be forewarned that the longer sentences in my books cause an upward trend in the reading level, which settles at about seventh grade, instead of the fourth grade level found in newspapers and many, so called, adult books. An occasional typo may slip by me, but is usually caught by my editor, who is a fellow teacher, or by my Beta and ARC readers who are marvelous. You can expect long sentences in my books, just like they were in yesteryear. You may even learn a few new words. I hope so! I guess I am still a bit of a teacher at heart.

Miss Fanny Markham is on the hunt for a husband and with her cousin (the famed mad heiress) no longer her companion, she's left to her own devices. She's at Lord and Lady Darby's manor for their very popular hunt. Fanny could care less about the hunt and bides her time trying to snare Lord Felix. She doesn't see the perfect match right in front of her eyes. It isn't until another Miss flirts with Rupert that Fanny sees him for the catch of the Ton. Can she secure Rupert's affection before it's too late?

I loved this short story in the Mad Heiress series. It's a fun, flirtatious read and I kept rooting for Rupert to declare his love. Pick this up today and escape to the countryside for an afternoon.

Touching. Mysterious. Hopeful romance, with disappointments. A Hero that is one—a successful spy for the government, who was bested by our heroine when she “outs” the traitor in the British spy network! Both the H & h have been living with their separate heartaches for 10 years—his wife was murdered, her fianće ran off to Gretna Green with someone else. Both must overcome broken and now walled-off Hearts in order to grasp the happiness before them.
I found this a delightful book, eliciting a wide range of emotions in the reader. The storyline is strong, and our H & h are characters with whom we can empathize. I read as a boxed set, Books 1-4 on Amazon as “Mad Heiress And The Duke”, and highly recommend buying the set to be able to read it sequentially. Outstanding series, and one I was sorry to end.

This was a cute clean Regency story about Fanny Markham who was determined not to leave the famed hunt that Lord and Lady Darby hold without a husband. Her only problem was that there were not a lot of men who met her strict standards. As a matter of fact, there's only two: Mr. Rupert Fellows and Lord Felix Hart. One was perfect, and one reminded her of a Labrador.
This book really took me to the Regency era, it felt like I was right next to Miss Markham the whole time and jumped for joy when she made her selection.
This was the first book I read in this series, and I can't wait to read more with my KU subscription.

A fun, sweet novella.

What an unexpected story! Not often is a leading male character depicted as the somewhat clumsy, smiley person in a story, and the leading female poised, logical and almost calculating. This typical role reversal was refreshing!

Rupert was a sweetie, and Fanny likable and strong in her circumstances.

A quick, enjoyable read!

Short story

This was a very short but good story. A house party, fox hunt and realization for one young lady that the love of her life had been right in front of her if she only opened her eyes to look.

Short but sweet

Two people who are in love but don't realize it. They've known each other for years and are more comfortable with each other than with anyone else. They finally really it and all end well. Just the right length.
