Token love interest returns for the three people in the audience who don't ship guy-on-guy action.

I don't like the introduction of the over-the-top creepy-ass villain with a lizard tongue, but this still remains an enjoyable sports manga. That's quite a feat considering I've never watched a second of real bicycle racing competitions.

I recommend ハイキュー!! 1 Haikyū!! 1 to anyone who enjoys the sportsmanship and team dynamics on display here.

The start of the three days inter high competition. Starting off with the sprinter race. Not a fan of Izumida with Andy and frank, but nice to see competition between the teammates.

3.5, I took a pretty long break while reading this, I guess I can only handle so much cycling even though it all seems very exciting while I’m reading. You really can’t help reading the dialogue aloud as they yell during dramatic racing moments. The Abs guy was weird, Imaizumi’s rival is disturbing (and will hopefully be terribly defeated by his own bad choices), and the dramatic sprint finish was fun even if it took like 5 chapters to go 1km.

Honestly I can not say enough good things about this volume or about this series in general. I never thought I could care so much about a group of people who ride bikes for fun. But this volume especially gives us an even deeper understanding of the characters and their motivations. Which have been hinted at but never fully explored.

Egos flare and nerves are frayed as the High School Cylcing Inter-High race begins. We meet old rivals from Hakone and Imaizumi's nemisis from Kyoto Fushimi. (if you watch the anime this dude is CREEPY!)

It's only day one and an all out battle has begun for the sprinters of each team. The goal is the first checkpoint and Naruko and Tadokoro are both on the warpath. But, coming from behind is Hakone's ace sprinter and he's not going to let them win so easily.

This omnibus contains volumes 9-10.
